  1. You can make multiple strokes on the same object. It's difficult to explain, but it involves the Appearance palette. Draw a box, for example. Give it a fill and a stroke. Now open the Appearance palette. You should have an item called "path", and underneath, two other listings of "Stroke" and "Fill". You can select one of those listings and drag around in that palette, just like the layers palette. It treats each attribute of the object as its own layer. Now, click on the stoke layer so it's highlighted, and click on the icon at the bottom of the palette (right next to the little trash can) that looks like a new layer. It's "Duplicate Selected Item". Exactly as it says, your object now has two strokes of the same weight and color. When each specific item in the appearance palette is selected, you can edit the fill or stroke as you would any fill or stroke, in their own respective palettes. This method also works for stroking text, but through trial and error I've found it a bit clunky.
  2. The wedding script font is called "Spring".
  3. The font Champion used for football nameplates is Helvetica Black. I remember it used by the Bengals, Bills, and Boston College. It was artificially scaled, depending on the length of the player's last name. The South Africa font looks custom. I can't think of abything close, except maybe Industria (but that's a stretch because it's too narrow). It looks like similar lettering custom made by Todd Radom for the Washington Nationals.
  4. Birch is close to the Villanova font, but it doesn't have all the serifs that the logo does.
  5. I haven't seen the commercials, but I've seen other graphics with "The Road to Forty" on them. This font is used on most NFL graphics this season, from Kickoff to Thanksgiving Classics to Playoffs. I've been trying to figure out that font for a while. I know I've seen fonts close to it, but each it just a bit different so's not to match up 100%.
  6. LSU's proprietary font is called "Geaux". It's not available anywhere but through LSU, who most likely is not selling it for public release. However, one of the uniform manufacturers (possibly Sports Belle, I can't remember) has it listed as one of its own fonts, and is available as outlines in some pdf files.
  7. Just what Joel said. I've been using Illustrator since version 3 when I was in college, so that's 13+ years experience. And I still don't know all the goodies it has to offer.
  8. Do you mean for the NHL on NBC logo, or the font for all other graphics? NBC Sports uses Interstate for its graphics, mostly Interstate Bold Condensed. A freeware version is called Blue Highway, but it has nowhere near the amount of variations as the true version of Interstate has.
  9. The font for "Arizona" is custom. The font for Wildcats is Friz Quadrata.
  10. Not too many slab serif fonts I can think of like that. You might want to start out with Berthold City Medium, then modify it from there. Maybe even Helvetica Compressed, and lessen the curves in it.
  11. Helvetica Bold Italic with a bunch of lines over it.
  12. They're all Din Mittelschrift except for Arizona, which is Univers Ultra Condensed.
  13. I think "Spartans" is a modified version of Compacta, but I don't know any serifed fonts offhand that look like this. Serpentine is used for "UNC Greensboro"
  14. You have to do the letterspacing & horizontal scaling first. You don't have to convert the text to outlines, but I don't think the file will print correctly until you convert to outlines or expand appearance. Once the letters are spaced out to your liking, go to Effect -> Warp -> Arch. Click on "preview" so you can visually see the degree of arching while you move the sliders.
  15. Helvetica Black or Ultra Black Condensed should work fine.
  16. NCAA Gothic. Where'd you find that graphic?
  17. Providence is custom to Providence College only.
  18. a freeware i have is HandelGotComDMed. That's the full name, it's the exact font. Not quite. Handel Gothic is more elongated horizontally. Miami's 4, 6 and 9 are also very different, the 6 and 9 especially because their tails extend in a straight line like Futura.
  19. Not sure where you can get a freeware version of Frutiger. Google it and see what comes up. Miami has its own custom font. The numbers look a little different than the letters (for school name and individual team websites, not for nameplates). Both are based on Handel Gothic (think Pepsi logo).
  20. There is a font very similar to the old Expos font called Consort Bold Condensed. I don't have any visuals for the old number in front of me, but the numbers are very similar. However?the Expos were using that style pretty much since 1969, and the Consort font was made within the last 10 years. There is also an older font called Egizio Condensed, which might have been the basis for the Expos font. This now concludes today's leson in Typography, I now return you to your regularly scheduled fetish.
  21. The only way to crop out the extra area around your picture would be to create a mask for it so only the part you want to see shows through.
  22. Raiders is Egyptienne Bold Narrow Oklahoma is ITC Machine
