I think the hats are where they missed an opportunity. For how many years were we told the upside-down trident-M is bad luck? And then they flip them and cross them inside the collar, complete with a story for what the W’s stand for. They should have put the flipped trident-W on the hat. I can’t un-see it now.

The more I look at this, the more I wish the Portland Winterhawks had gone with a sweater design like this to go with the new Hawk logo. Beautifully done work!

Hey, thank you for taking the time to make that for me/us! I don’t know if I love it or hate it, but it seems like the sort of gimmick we’d see with the City Connect series. In a way, it kind of reminds me of a Civil War-era Cavalry hat the way the tridents cross over.

I’m expecting the black bill and blue crown, but the yellow bill really ties it all together. Any chance we could please see these mocked up with tridents on the bill, similar to the collar?

I went out to see the special 25th anniversary release of The Big Lebowski tonight. I come home and open this thread, and my only takeaway (other than the fact the Cardinals social media team did a great job getting people excited about plain oatmeal) is that this uniform set has taken some of the worst aspects of the Lions and Falcons unis, and shoehorned them in because they could. This dude does not abide.

The Carolina Hurricanes franchise is the epitome of Kirk Lazarus’ statement in Tropic Thunder. “I know who I am! I’m a dude, playing a dude, disguised as another dude!”

Irrelevant opinion, but, even the officials tops look goofy. It looks like a rugby-style polo you’d see at The Gap in 1991.

The Winterhawks also have a helmet ad. Evoca TV, which is some kind of cable/satellite alternative. Which nicely matches the blue silver trim in their new uniforms…

Not shown are the back numbers, which have additional lines “inside” the number. Anyway… I can’t stop seeing Kraken sweaters, and it’s sad to see the red go away. The local apparel company Portland Gear was given a lovely logo, and they are not handling the rebrand well. This gets a C-grade from me.

Portland Winterhawks (WHL) will be unveiling their new sweaters at 11AM Pacific time this morning. Last year, they put the new crest and shoulder logos on existing Winterhawks blanks, using the Chicago template. Word is that the changes will be to the collar and sleeve stripes.

That right there seems like the smoking gun. What a garish mashup, though! Black and yellow stripes, with a red and green crest? Oof. Almost feels like a “this is what they had in stock, so these are our team colors” sort of situation.

I’ve heard that lately, and have been having a hard time finding proof. Yes, I know, no color photographs, but is there a written reference from that era? Portland teams are my jam, so, I’m super intrigued by this.

What I’m hearing, then, is that it’s time to go back to 1925/26 for these bad boys…

I love this look for them! This needs to be their full-time look. My only complaint is that the pirate skull looks furry, and looks like a the face of a dog…

How you described the reimagined Breakers is how I feel about the Rams. There was a legacy/nostalgia look that was solid and a little tweak would have been plenty. Instead, we got what we have now.

So here’s a dreadful thought. What if Lou signs off on the RR using the fisherman template, but throwing back to the stop-gap set with the traditional Islanders crest?
