Maybe that's the point the NFL ditches conferences and goes with just divisions, they'd most likely expand the playoffs to 16 teams.
I like this idea. There's only one MVP every year anyway. The pro bowls are fantasy drafts so it's all moot.
How would the schedule format work though? I'm sorta assuming it'd be 18 games now rather than 17 games. On 6/14/2023 at 12:31 PM, McCall said:The only way that would work without adding four North American teams as well, would be to do away with divisions, put the European teams in one conference and move two teams from that conference over to the other giving each one 18 teams... with no divisions. Then essentially, just schedule as if there were divisions, meaning the 4 Euro teams would only play each other home and away.
Btw, that Euro division-talk is nothing knew. Been going on for years.
Or just have a pure 17-week round robin style schedule. Face every team in your conference once. No cross-conference games. Would make for an extremely balanced schedule I think.
23 hours ago, Ferdinand Cesarano said:I don't think that a whole European division is necessary.
A single London team could stay at a U.S. base for the first eight or nine games of the season, and travel from there to road games. It would then go home to London for its home games.
Each of the London team's visiting opponents would play on Thursday on the week before going to London; then each of those teams would have a bye on the week after its London game.
In order not to disadvantage any team that would have to play in London on week 18 right before the playoffs, the London team would have its bye week during that week. And it would play on Thursday on the week of its last game in the U.S. during the front part of the season, and on Monday for its first home game.
If the London team were to make the playoffs, then either it would have to travel to a U.S. city, or a U.S.-based team would have to travel to London, with no Thursdays, Mondays, or byes available. In that case, just suck it up.
That's not a bad idea. Wonder where that U.S. base would be. Probably Texas because it's centrally located, in warm weather, and tons of good football facilities there (See XFL). I love and agree with your idea about the playoffs. Just suck it up lol.

So I saw an article where the NFL was entertaining the possibility of having a 4-team division in Europe to help with the travel costs and all that.
But my question is - assuming all current NFL teams stay intact - how would the logistics work?
What would the schedule look like? 17 or 18 games? 2 byes or just 1?
How would the division fit into the NFC or AFC? Or is it just an "unaffiliated' division? Where would their playoff teams go?I know it'll probably never happen in real life, but just for the sake of discussion, let's just assume it'll happen. What would the logistics be like?

Leagues heavily restrict access to the style guides.
Why?
Would there be similar guides to this for other leagues or sports?
I noticed it seems to be fairly easy finding style guides for NCAA teams, but not for pro teams.
Such as this one - https://www.trademark.iastate.edu/files/documents/2021-11/iowastate_athletic.pdf -
I always love looking at MLB team logos, especially on this website.
But I was wondering if I could find the official team branding style guide (any team) anywhere so I can read through it? Or even just a one big chart of their logos and when certain logos can be used or not.
Like this for the Big 12 - http://ncdadodgeball.com/media/teams/resources/Big12StyleGuide.pdf
I think it used to be accessible on pressbox.mlb.com but now one needs to log in for that kind of info.

Israel (ישראל)
They are one of only 2 teams in this series with a different logo design on all 3 jerseys: the country name in Hebrew on the home, English on the away, and the Star of David cap logo on the alternate.
This uniform was heavily inspired by @RoughRiders99's wonderful Israel set in his amazing WBC series.
Hello there!
Thanks! I'm honored! You're doing some great work here too. I'm enjoying this series from afar
Keep it up!

Is there a way to create a photoshop graphic file (such as standings or playoff bracket) where I could put multiple teams in one location but only show one team at a time. Kind of like a drop down menu thing?
I'm trying to look for ways to save time "admin-ing" my sports fantasy stuff.

I must admit that some teams pulled off the look pretty well.
Road pinstripes really only work when the design of the lettering is simple. The Twins, Padres, and Pirates all have single outlines, with the Twins matching the pinstripe and outline color. However, complex designs look terrible with road pinstripes. The multiple outlines/shadows of the Angels and Diamondbacks, as well as the inlays of the Rockies, clutter things up.
The Diamondbacks look particularly bad, downplaying a big part of their color scheme (turquoise) and switching emphasis away from their unique purple shade towards black. While I'm a big black/turquoise/copper guy for Arizona, I don't think black was used well from 1998-2006.
YES!! I loved it when the Minnesota Twins had the road pinstripes. It's what allowed them to separate from all other navy-red teams.

I have wondered if a split of AAA baseball into 3 10-team leagues could be a possibility in the future. Am I being too ambitious?
You could see something like the following. I know it would break up the National Championship, but could something else take its place?
New PCL
Tacoma, Sacramento, Reno, Fresno, Vegas, Salt Lake, San Antonio (former Colorado Springs), Round Rock, El Paso, Albuquerque
New IL
Louisville, Toledo, Indianapolis, Columbus, Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Lehigh Valley, Scranton-WB, Pawtucket/Worcester
New League (I'll call it the Federal League for intents and purposes)
Oklahoma City, Wichita (former New Orleans), Omaha, Iowa, Memphis, Nashville, Gwinett, Durham, Norfolk, Charlotte
Like what @buzzcut said, switch the IL West with the IL South, so that way, Iowa, Omaha, Memphis, etc. can be in the same league with Louisville, Indianapolis, etc, while the IL is more Atlantic coast based.
As for the National Championship, maybe take the 3 league winners and a preselected championship host and place them in a 4-team bracket thing. I believe the Canadian Hockey junior does the same thing.

I'm definitely thinking of putting Euro and Asian teams but having a hard time if I should put them in the same conferences or creating a new conference/league full of them.
Maybe make them their own conferences and they only play the actual NBA teams just a few times a year. Think like AL/NL in MLB in the early days of interleague play. There only time they would really face each other is during a 2-3 week period in late spring, the All-Star game and the post-season.
Something like this, which is completely off the top of my head:
32-team NBA
8-team EuroNBA
8-team AsiaNBA
Have like a 2-3 period during each season where all of the teams travel to each other's homes and have their own version of "interleague."
In the postseason,
the semi-finals could have 2 NBA teams, and 1 from each Euro/Asia. NBA would have it own playoff system per normal, while the international teams will have their own version. Forget my original semi-finals idea. Maybe just have a normal 16-team playoff like usual, but have a "wild-card, play-in" round between the bottom 2 NBA teams and the Euro/Asia teams to battle for the no. 7/8 seeds. Something like that. It's not perfect but I'm sure someone can come up with a reasonable idea.I know it'll be hard to come up with balanced schedule for something like this, but it's an idea. Just pretend that the International teams is in the "third conference" and the Euro and Asia are their own "divisions."
Western Conference (just like normal)
4 divisions of 4 teams / 2 divisions of 8 teams
Eastern Conference (just like normal)
4 divisions of 4 teams / 2 divisions of 8 teams
"International" Conference
Euro's own division
Asia's own division

Just discovered this thread and there are some great ideas here!
One idea I had (just thought of it off the top of my head) is that maybe if there's a "dead series" somewhere and the original poster cannot continue it, maybe someone else could take up the mantle and complete the series with the original owner's permission. The style/template would be similar, but we could see some cool designs in a same league.- 1

I like it overall, but what's with the shield's open end?
It's a C.
I think he meant that the red and dark gold outlines don't go all the way around the logo and just leaves one end open.

Hello everybody,
I was just wondering how one would achieve a text effect like in this logo:
I am only concerned about the gray/silver part inside the white text, that gives off a 3D-y look but not quite bevel-y. I hope that makes sense...
Here are a few other examples of what I'm talking about:Thank you for your help!!!

More arched italics!?! Why? Just make it straight!! Either non-arched or non-italics.
Everything else is fine but man the wordmark looks like it's falling over.
Yeah that's what I was saying earlier in the thread. I wish they'd keep it "flat" or just pick ONE of the two (arched or italics).

The sleeve emblem logo is outstanding. It's easily the best aspect of the entire identity package... and by a large margin. The Texas League All-Star Game logo is quite nice. The alternative logo is solid.
Beyond that, I can't say that this identity system does much for me. In the primary cap logo, the interplay of the horse's head, the letter A, and what are meant to be the horse's mane and - I presume - the reins of the horse's bridle make for a visually convoluted mark. The road cap logo is serviceable. The custom font script is, "Meh", at best. The fashion cap logo is brutal.
Yeah, I agree with you on the state/sleeve logo. Also, the horse logos are too busy as well. The A looks too forced in there.
-
I honestly think this is too much. I do like where they're going, but I'm not a fan of how they made it all 3D-y or make it all warped (making the logos look like they're at different perspective) and whatnot. They'd be much better if they were just straight on with no "warped effect" and lose one of the "reds" to avoid the shaded effect as well. And change the black to navy blue. They added black for black's sake. I think that'd be a solid upgrade to their current set.
Downgrade, IMO. TOO modern for a classical team that's 100+ years old. But it worked for the Chihuahuas because they're a modern team though.

A 36-team NHL? Are you being serious. Honestly the NFL is about the only league that could pull off 36 teams. If the NBA went to 5 divisions of 6 and somehow found a way to make a 6-team European division work, then maybe. But definitely not the NHL. Not to mention, a team in Des Moines? Four teams in the Toronto-Buffalo area?
Yay Des Moines!!
Although I would call them Des Moines Raccoons, but that's just me.

Needlers- Space Needle is in Seattle. I suppose it's a weird name but, what else? Seattle Frappachinos?
Peaks- Again, what else would work for Utah? I don't want a bee related name.
Utah Summit sounds better than Utah Peaks, IMO

Hello, Max.
My name is Marshall Eriksen. I have been hired from New York City by the user RoughRiders9, for the sole purpose of lawyering you on this thread.
I have read your statements on in your words a "realignment" as you would probably call it in an ideal world. But the problem is our world isn't an ideal world. I will begin my argument. Prepare to be lawyered.
You, sir, have taken my client's league names post and FUBAR the entire league. (For the sake of this court, I will use friendly language, screw it up beyond any recognition. But I'm sure you can figure it out, since you claim to be a big boy).
I'm going to the evidence to support my argument.
1) He never asked you for anything more than suggestions to the divisions he and his group already decided. Basically he was asking for a cherry on top of his cake, but nope, you had to squash his cake, didn't you?
2) Logic would shoot itself in the head if it attempted to read the crap you presented as your "logic".
3) Coastal League - eastern and western coast teams in the same league. Wut? How do you explain travel times?
4) I thought of a phrase to summarize up your post, but my brain exploded before I even began to think about how to summarize your post. It's that bad.
All in all, I request you GTFO this thread and leave my client and the other poor users on this thread from any more butchering of logic and baseball and other sports too.
You are that terrible of a fan that other fans do not want you to comment anymore.
Marshall Eriksen out.

Ok guys,
Some of you may have already seen my post regarding fantasy baseball and how to align them up.
Well, since then, I've added 4 teams, which makes for a 20-team league.
I've already named the divisions, but not the conferences/league, so that's where you come in. I will list out the league/teams/divisions so you can get an idea of the outlook:
"Eastern League"
Atlantic Coast Division
Long Island D.
Long Island Y.
New Jersey
New York
Springfield (Massc.)
Great Lakes Division
Buffalo
Chicago
Dayton (Ohio)
Pittsburgh
Rochester
"Western" League
Gulf Coast Division
Atlanta
Arkansas
Birmingham
Florida
Texas
Pacific Coast Division
California
Iowa
Portland
Seattle
St. Louis
Here's a map to help you out. Just ignore the "colored" pins and focus on the shaded area and the red line.
Now, I just don't want to name the "leagues/conferences" after the boring, old east-west thing. I've thought about Pioneer-Frontier, Sunrise-Sunset, Rocky-Appalachian, etc etc.
Now, it's kinda hard to come up with something because Florida/Atlanta are in the "west" but the "majority" of the Great Lakes division is in the Eastern Time Zone (only one in CST) whilst only two teams in the "west" are in EST.
The division names are pretty much set. I'm just looking for conference/league names.
The overall league name is "Fantasy Mendoza League," or FML. Yes, I did that on purpose :-P
Any insight/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

Move Atlanta to Industrial and Florida Suns to the Sunbelt Division. Otherwise, looks good.
Why is that? Just curious, that's all.
-
Hey guys,
Thought this might be a good place to post this, as I need your help.
I'm planning a fantasy baseball league with my friends for this season and we've got 16 members with "realistic team names" here and there and thought we could use your keen eye on where to realign the teams.
Here are the teams:
Arkansas Travelers
Atlanta xxxxxx
Birmingham Barons
Chicago Zephyrs
Dayton Hunters
Florida Suns
Iowa Oaks
Long Island Ducks
Long Island Yanks
New Jersey Mobsters
New York xxxxx
Pittsburgh xxxxx
Rochester Red Wings
Seattle Cascades
Springfield Isotopes
St. Louis Pitchers
(Yes, I know some of the teams are named after minor league teams, but whatever, lol)
I'm not sure if we could go with an "East/West" thing or "AL/NL" thing. The way I see it, it could be 2 "confernces" with 2 divisions within each conference.
If we do the "east/west" thing, we'd like to call East - Pioneer and West - Frontier. And as for the divisions, yeah it's "logical" to place the teams geographically close with each other, but I still wouldn't want to call the division after "X" direction (i.e. West, Central, South, Northeast, etc etc). I want something creative, like the old NHL days, I guess.
But if we do the "AL/NL" thing, I'm not sure on how to divide up the teams....
What do you guys think??
Thanks for the help!
---
Here's my idea so far:
Pioneer League
Metropolitan
Long Island Ducks
Long Island Yanks
New Jersey Mobsters
New York XXXXXXX
Industrial
Florida Suns
Springfield Isotopes
Pittsburgh XXXXXXX
Rochester Red Wings
Frontier League
Heartland
Iowa Oaks
Chicago Zephyrs
Dayton Hunters
St. Louis Pitchers
Sunbelt
Seattle Cascades
Arkansas Travelers
Birmingham Barons
Atlanta XXXXXX

so it seems like all-star games embody all of the ideas the original north american league creators had envisioned for their leagues...
the harlem globetrotters should be in the nba.
balance is the name of the game, but Spain will never play Barcelona.
Thanks for these 3 nuggets of random, nonsensical crap.
Please, just ignore him. Fight the urge of pointing out his moronic statements and just ignore him. My hopes are if ALL of us continue this thread by ourselves, communicating only to each other and ignore him, eventually he will stop posting. Even if he does keep posting, we should strive to only comment on each others' posts/ideas.

Let me see if I got what you're saying right:
2 18-team conferences
No divisions
But rather, there are "de facto" divisions/pods/locked rivals a la college football permanent rivals
Wouldn't that just make for an even more unbalanced schedule?
Let's just pretend that NFL becomes like baseball's NL/AL style but with no interleague(conference) play and have each of these 18-team conferences have 3 divisions of 6 teams per for simplicity.
But assuming that the 4 Europe teams are all in one division together, then one conference would never play them.
Not trying to disagree with you or anything. Just having an enjoyable conversation with you, I'd like to think. Yes, of course I want to keep as many rivals intact as we can.
