  1. Ladies and Gentlemen, the Armanti Edwards in the rain:
  2. My first thought was Sully from Monsters, Inc. I'd like it more if it wasn't so "in your face" and a little more reserved.
  3. Compare that to the Big East going 5-1 (with the one loss being an OT loss and being, well, my school on top of that ) in non-conference games over the weekend. Though I guess in defense the ACC has a few stronger teams at the top than the Big East, plus the VT loss wasn't too bad considering it's #5 vs. #7. Oh, and on a related but unrelated note, Temple isn't even the best football school in Philadelphia. They lost to Villanova, a FCS school, the other night. Better luck against Penn if you schedule them? No, Temple is the best football school in Philadelphia. OK...isn't the best football school in metro Philadelphia. Conversely, Villanova may not be the best football school in metro Philadelphia... I think technically, since New Castle County Delaware is part of the combined statistical area for Philadelphia, making the University of Delaware Blue Hens the best team in metro Philadelphia. Really? I think Villanova is a threat to win the national championship this year. The Delaware/Villy game should be a good one, but I don't see the Hens beating the Wildcats unless Devlin is a Joe Flacco clone. On another note, if App could have just sustained one drive in the first quarter we might have pulled off the upset of ECU. We played great in the second half (outscored them 17-2), but just couldn't pull out the upset. A star was born with Tavaris Cadet's gritty performance - it wasn't an outstanding stat day or anything, but he made some great throws on the run and pounded the ball up the middle. He honestly looked like a bigger Armanti (who was going nuts on the sideline during the comeback). Going nuts as in getting everyone pumped up, or geoing nuts as in telling the coaches he should be on the field? Getting in and out of the offensive huddles during TV timeouts in sprints with water bottles, running sprints up and down the sideline getting everyone on their feet, personally pulling Cadet to the side giving him pointers. He knows that in the long run that this game means very little in the big picture of the playoffs and winning #4.

  5. You may lose by 50 points, but you gain funding for recruiting trips. You are, after all, building a program. Some recruits (obviously not the top recruits) can be swayed if that school plays a couple games at these big schools each year. And in some cases, your team is competitive by the time the game arrives (usually these games are scheduled a couple years in advance), and you get a payday and a victory. Appalachian State brought back $400K and a win to Boone, NC from their trip to Ann Arbor. Ultimately, at the end of the season, the polls and pollsters get it right close to 100% of the time. Teams can drop from the top without losing (UGA went from #1 to #3 before losing a game last year), and teams can rise from unranked to at the top, as USF did. Every poll will be flawed until all the regular season games are played. Woo! Hopefully ECU sold App a win for $300k. So excited for the season!
  6. No earlier than 2011, the NCAA has put a moratorium on teams moving up until then. I believe they have done a feasability study on the move though.
  7. I like that rule. Punters are football players too. I didn't like seeing teams take advantage of other teams avoiding hitting the kicker by having him run four or five yards and then punting. I can't remember a team that did this in FBS ball, but it was almost an epidemic in the SoCon last year.
  8. I have a feeling that if the Falcons ever use this new cut of jersey they will look really weird. The sleeve doesn't seem big enough to fit three colors and a falcon all while making it look normal.
  9. Actually the gold jerseys were App State's idea, not Nike's. Really? Wow. It's just something that Nike would certainly do and so I assumed they put the thing in motion. Either way I do like them. That's interesting...do you know who's idea it was at App?
  10. Well apparently I was behind the times because photos were released of the thirds today:
  11. Well they are pretty much the same thing: '05 '07 Unless, you're talking about:
  12. Depended on the sports. Football was Russell Athletic, Field Hockey has been Under Armour, and I've never got a good look at baseball/softball.
  13. From the Media Guide: ASU AND NIKE Since 2007, Nike has been the official apparel and footwear provider for Appalachian football. In addition to its state-of-the-art footwear, the Mountaineers? uniforms and off-field apparel and coaches? sideline wear are all produced by Nike. For the second-straight year, Nike will provide ASU with an ?alternate? third uniform to be worn during one home game. This year?s alternate uni features a gold jersey and will be worn by the Apps when they host North Carolina Central for homecoming on Oct. 10. Beginning in 2009-10, all 20 of ASU?s varsity programs programs will make the transition to Nike footwear and apparel. Oh my.
  14. They look nice...a lot better than the Broncos-template they used when they came to Boone!

To quote Verne Lundquist from just about every SEC game last year: "OH MY GOODNESS! Are you serious?!"
  16. Jason Reese on senior night in '02 or '03 at Alabama. He hadn't played at all that year and only had limited minutes throughout his career, and then in his final game against Auburn, he threw this down:
  17. Are you thinking the Jacks are gonna lose to Weber and Montana in conference? They should be competitive, but I think they are a year or two away from being a contender again. I'm rooting for them, I'd love to see Montana knocked off their perch as the BSC champ. I'm hoping App can pull off another big season. We have a scary deep team year and as long as we have a solid O-line I think we'll be able to outscore most teams. Brian Quick (6'6'' SOPH WR) is going to break out this year and I wouldn't be surprised to see players like WR Matt Cline and RB Rod Chisholm make waves on the FCS level. On D we should be more solid. After watching old games I found last year we didn't rush the QB hardly ever with the DBs. This is probably because we had our greenest defensive backfield ever with a freshman (who started on day 1 against LSU but broke his leg in practice the next week), and two sophomores starting back there. I think Coach has gained some trust in them and will let them be out there on their own more. I've talked to a few of the players over the summer and they are hungrier than ever. They said they are ashamed of the game they played against Richmond in the playoffs and want to prove they are better than that. (A few even admitted they didn't like how they played against SCSU) I'm so ready for this season and I have tickets to every game, home and away.

  19. Old Dominion begins play this season and will be a FCS Indy until 2011, when they join the CAA. Georgia State begins next season and will be an FCS Indy as well. The only exception is that they'll have to wait until 2012 to join the CAA. Other D-I schools that are starting football include: -South Alabama (Club program this season, full program next year. Plans to join Sun Belt in 2013) -Lamar (Starts in 2010, joins Southland in 2011) -UT San Antonio (Starts in 2011) -Charlotte (Starts in 2013) Charlotte's chances at getting a football squad are looking grim. They only sold about 20% of the PSL's they needed to raise money for the program.
  20. Hey I've got a question for the Bomber fans: What do y'all think of Richie Williams? He's a hero from where I'm from so I'm kinda interested to see what he's thought of north of the border.
  21. With your track record on predictions, you've just doomed them to a 7-6 season. If that gets Urban to South Bend faster, by all means Will keep predicting ND to go undefeated.
  22. Not 100% sure but: 1. Wake Forest 2. Clemson 3. Georgia Tech 4. Miami, FL 5. Virginia Tech 6. Duke 7. North Carolina State 8. Maryland 9. Virginia 10. Boston College 11. Florida State 12. North Carolina
  23. I guess they didn't include Alabama since they really don't have many options to choose from?
  24. None of those names seriously shock me, but if Andres Galarraga was a steroid user I'll be greatly disappointed. I'll say this is fake, ESPN would be all over this if it were true.
