  1. The Vikings' uniforms look like hot garbage tonight. Coincidentally, they're playing like hot garbage, so there's no chance anybody is going to be stupid enough to consider this God-awful combo to be "lucky." I like mono-crome looks with dark colors, but not all dark colors, and especially not purple. But this version does look better than the all shiny purple Reebok version, yes, hands down. White pants at home. Purple away. Law. And yes, Field Turf always looks wet under stadium lights (inside or out) but is so much worse under a dome.
  2. I hear ya. But I have always been a Cris Carter fan even as a kid, but never liked the 90's era of uniform. Also, I just noticed that they offer his uniform as a Pro Line throwback but with the Northwestern stripes. Is this something he wore early on with the Vikings (I assume so). I'd like to get the away Alan Page uni (always been a sucker for the away with shoulder stripes) but really dont know how the Pro Line compares to the Nike version fit wise. Anyone know?
  3. Alright, question for you all... The NFL shop now offers to types of "Retired" jerseys. One is Pro Line that looks mimics the correct era of the player and the other is a Nike version (Elite and Game) that uses the retired player's name and number but use the current uni set. Well, people seem to be up in arms about there being a new jersey with a former star's name and number on it. Now I guess I get it, if there is only the new style and not the old one, like there is for most teams, then I'd be a little mad. But personally, I have been thinking about custom ordering a new style Vikings jersey with Carter #80, just cuz I am a huge C. Carter fan and like the new uniform look. Thoughts on what the NFL is offering?
  4. I'm looking at a #42 Jerome Felton jersey. Not because I feel safe that he isn't going anywhere, but because, A... I think having a jersey of a lunchpail kind of player is cool, B... it would be a bit of a ridiculous conversation piece, and (maybe most importantly), C... 42 looks nice in that weird new font. Even Jared Allen is not a safe bet. I am a fan of the defensive side and wanted a Limited defensive jersey but all they had was Allen, which means it will probably be out of date by next year. Unfortunately, everyone else's jersey I want either has a 5 or a 2 on the end which looks bad. 52, 22, 95, 15, 82. Ultimately I got AP's because 1. he is a beast, 2. will be sticking around a while and 3. the number combo looks great! But seriously, The only limited Jerseys were AP, Ponder and Allen!? At least add Greenway in there.
  5. I have no idea. He had to make a deal with Locke, the punter, to get it too. I dont get it I believe it was his high school number. Maybe he didn't want to take #12 in Tampa because it was Doug Williams' number? Total speculation on my part. Yeah, I read that it was his HS number as well.
  6. For those of you would like to replace your Ponder jersey, these are now available:
  7. Well the NFL shop is offering a new Limited jersey by Nike for the Vikings as part of their "Drenched" series. There is no black and no gray added, just all purple: A little surprised at all the same color purple seeing as the Lion's Drenched version uses 3 shades of blue to help differentiate the stripes and outlines. And yes, I know this will never see the field. And no, I am not a fan of it, but I like it more than the all black versions they have rolled out in the past.
  8. I'd bet that they are the Nike cut, but the same look as the throw backs above. I agree, as a Vikings fan, those 90's/00's were always me least favorite. I figured as much that it would be that jersey, I was just excited to see it on the Nike jerseys, as I think they are so much better looking, IMHO. I thnk the Bears and Chiefs looks so much better now, for example. (regular jersey) Damn. womp womp.

  10. Wait... they'll be wearing throwbacks against each other? Or are they just saying whenever each team wears them? Also, I didn't know the Vikings still had a throwback uniform in their set. Is it the same as before? Sorry, I may have misspoke with that, not sure if they will be wearing them against each other. But seeing as the Vikings like to use theirs against the Packers, I am sure they will be wearing them against the pack this year. My guess would be at home seeing as though it will be the last time they play the pack in the Dome. As for what they look like. No clue, I would assume close to what they have already been wearing the last few years. Unless they go with the 90's version, which I hope not ;-)
  11. This just in, the Vikings use their current matte helmet for their throwback uniform against the Packers: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/09/18/vikings-packers-will-wear-throwbacks-with-their-standard-helmets/
  12. That's the kind of thinking that got the Cowboys into the mess they are currently in. No, the Cowboys got into those issues in the early '80s, with poor quality broadcasts that didn't accurately show colors. We are talking about HDTV in 2013, which generally makes the images much closer to real life (unless the broadcast is over-saturated, as some HD things are). More importantly, whether or not the Cowboys' solution worked at making the silvers look similar on broadcasts back then (and I imagine it didn't), the Cowboys look mismatched on HDTV today. There's no excuse for them to be mismatched in 2013, just as there's no excuse for the Vikings. And it wouldn't take the world's greatest scientists 20 years to match the Vikings' jerseys to their helmets, either. The Vikings matched just fine last year, but they went away from that matching helmet color. You're still not going to get accurate color representations on HDTV's. They will be a lot more accurate then other TV's, but still not accurate. Each TV's going to display the color in a slightly different shade than the others. TalkToChuck is correct. But lets not feed TheOldRoman any more, he's been on a rant about this since before the uniforms were even unveiled. He obviously wants to only see it his way, and that's fine because he is entitled to his opinion of liking shiny helmets, but it's getting old. But his opinion that the new helmet doesn't match the rest of the uniform (in person, standard def, or HDTV) is right. If they had gone with metallic gloss like they'd been using for the last decade or so it would match a lot better. Thank you. I have said that I pretty universally dislike matte helmets, but that is not part of the equation here. I am not complaining because their helmet is matte, I am complaining because it is mismatched due largely to it being matte. This is particularly dumb considering the fact that the helmets matched the jerseys for the last seven years. But no, it's just me complaining because I dislike matte helmets. Also, HDTV is this horrible boogeyman which arbitrarily distorts colors and we should applaud the Vikings and Nike for going matte in spite of high definition. After all, nobody watches football on TV and all that matters is how it looks from the stands. We've covered this topic earlier in the thread. Blues and Purples are among the hardest to match across different mediums. Paint, fabric, inc, pixles. It's very difficult to get them to match. Add in the fact that it looks different in different lights (interior, exterior, time of day) as well as camera lenses, tvs, etc. and it's never going to match. Its not just HDTV. And yes, I know first hand. I work with a custom blue for a major corporation every day. We have tried everything we can but we can never get blue to match on all materials across the board, its just the nature of that those hues. The reason the Vikings could get their purple helmets and purple pants to more closely match in previous years was because the pant material was shiny, thus easier to match. With the new Nike pants being matte, you're going to have a more difficult time to match regardless of helmet finish. Ultimately the decision was up to the people that run the organization. Shiny or matte helmet, shiny or matte pants and the lesser of the evils that they can live with. I'm officially stepping out of this convo. Also, I have seen the purple pants in action live in a dome, and I can assure you, they match the helmets pretty damn well.

  14. Oh the humanity! Those matte Viking helmets look atrocious with those matte pants, how could they let this ruin everything that is good and... ...oh wait, never mind, they don't.
  15. Looks like they decided to use the Reebok blanks they had on hand and Frankenstein a jersey together to make some money back. Not surprised. However, I am surprised the NFL/Nike decided to keep using the equipment logo/badge albeit its now only on practice jerseys and items you wear under the uniform.
  16. For what it's worth, I asked Mike Wobschall of vikings.com the other day if the loss in the purple pants would cause them to be moth-balled. He assured me that it would not and that we would see them again.
  17. There is only one flaw with your statement... Vikings never used heraldry, which was an invention of Western Europe beginning in the eleventh century and the Vikings existed from about the mid-late eighth century to the mid eleventh. Sorry. Back to football.
  18. There is only one flaw with your statement... Vikings never used heraldry, which was an invention of Western Europe beginning in the eleventh century and the Vikings existed from about the mid-late eighth century to the mid eleventh. So if I was an AD on this redesign project, and a designer came to me with that statement, I'd have to tell them that that does not factor into the Norse culture that we were briefed to explore and at that point would be a subjective change rather than objective. I'd also be grumbling about the line in the brief where it says the horns must stay if we are tasked to stay true the Norse culture as well.
  19. Yeah, when they first brought out this uniform that was my initial thought, too... basically sandwich the gold inside purple on all the uniform elements. Here it is... But now, I think this above look would just a little too... I don't know... slick, maybe? I guess I like a little wonkyness in my uniforms, sometimes. I love it! But I dont mind that they match exactly now either. The quesiton for OSV, is how that would work with the purple jersey?
  20. A leotard look would be all purple with no stripes like Baltimore. White socks for sure. Also, I think they need to follow the Chargers and have a darker yellow. The lighter yellow doesn't show up as well as it could. I noticed that too. That yellow sure doesn't pop very much on those unis. (at least on the white jersey) That's exactly the point of why they made the move to the brighter yellow. The goal was to let the purple stand out more as yellow has always been a more tertiary color than a secondary color. Purple and white (as discussed on this thread earlier) has been the official colors. I think this brighter yellow does a much better job as a supporting color with the purple and white rather than competing with it. I don't know, it just looks washed out, pale, even "Easterish" to me. Washed out, sure, pastel/easterish, meh, I really dont see that, but I cant argue you're opinion. Chalk this one up to agree to disagree.
  21. Excellent job, this totally should be used.

  23. Got to see the purple pants live and in person today, and the people I went with (Lions fans) had no idea why I was freaking out about purple pants. I told them that they just wouldnt understand. The good news is, pants looked great on the field, the bad news, the team did not. It's tough when the Lions fans get to heckle you for once. I am just scared this loss will ruin it for the purple pants going forward.
  24. I just got my Limited Home Peterson jersey in the mail today. Overall it looks pretty good, glad I went with the Limited over the game, although I wish they had more players to choose from for the limited. I do have one complaint, and that is the cut seems to be a little more sloppy than the Nike jersey I purchased last year. As you can see by the pic I took of the old over the new, its slightly wider, but the biggest difference is in the sleeve where the new one is much longer. Before it went well above the elbow and now it goes well over the elbow (a pet peeve of mine). I almost thought about sending it back for a new one as I assume this there will be difference in cuts depending on which plant did the manufacturing.
