  1. Actually, the Vikings did use Nike's template last year (see the two-tone collar and shoulder yolk). As for the teams who did not use the Nike template, they are: Eagles, Falcons, Packers, Raiders. There are also some elements of the Nike template that were not used, such as the collar or new ventilation panel. A full list can be found here: http://www.uni-watch...kenfl-uniforms/ My point was that even though Nike makes the unis, that doesnt mean its made with all new nike design or style. As with the color/fabric for the vikings. And yes, I know how dramatc lighting is used in photography.
  2. Yup, thats what i suspect happened. Reebok was using their "dazzle" fabric for NFL uniforms which made a more shiny brighter look to all jersey colors. Of course some teams used this, some did not with the Vikings being ones that did. Even though Nike took over last year, they didnt outright change everything. Some teams used their old non-nike templates, so nike had to figure out how to create those. Same with the Viking's fabric/color. It looks as though they are now using what Nike has been opting for most uniform redesigns, a more "matte" like fabric (not sure of the name). Any time you go from a shiny to matte, colors always get darker. Thats true for paint, ink and fabric. Thats what I am guessing happened here. Then again, just my two cents.
  3. As far as I know, the Collar Wordmark was not an official clue from the Uniform Insider, but just a header image for an article about the new units on vikings.com http://www.vikings.com/news/article-1/An-Up-Close-Look-At-The-New-Vikings-Uniforms/6dc86c3b-a735-4a3e-982e-5cb40afb504f As far as I know, there should still be one more available. Havnt seen it. So that leaves us with Collar (no wordmark) and Cleat.
  4. Yellow numbers. Army uses gold, the Vikings use yellow, and it's now yellower than ever. I am not really encouraged by what I've seen and heard thusfar. I really hope they don't add black to the set, as implied by those shoes. The Ravens already do black and purple, and it is really hard to make work. The colors are too close. Even though the Ravens use actual gold, which I think works much better than yellow-gold with purple and black, the uniforms are still kind of cluttered and the colors blend together. Also, considering the Vikings have been around for over 50 years using just purple and yellow, it's a terrible idea to add any color into the scheme. I also don't like the solid yellow wordmark (or ANY collar wordmarks, for that matter) as it leads me to believe they will go with single-color numbers. I don't think Nike will do anything outlandish, and when they aren't doing "outlandish", they are doing "boring as ". I don't know if we'll get a few stripes on the sleeves or a logo, or maybe nothing at all. Either way, I think they need the additional color from number outlines. I'm with ya, I dont want them to add another color, nor do I think they need to. I wouldnt worry about the shoes though, they have been wearing black shoes since the last uniform update and before that, it was white. These are the only two colors you can chose from officially. I dont think they have any intent on adding black.
  5. I was thinking the same thing, it looks almost more like a gold than a yellow in the pics. It sure doesnt look like the Packers gold anymore.
  6. According to Twitter, the new cleats are the 5th clue... Not much to get from here, usual black cleats with team color.
  7. Ok, a question for everyone... For the home jerseys, who wants to see white numbers (possibly outlined in yellow), or would you rather see yellow numbers with no outline ( kind of like the bears blue and orange throw back)? I'm really digging just the plain gold Vikings wordmark on purple under the collar.
  8. There was no mention of a change to the purple shade, but you're right it looks different. After looking at it a bit, I think i figured it out. Reebok used to use their "dazzle" material which made the fabric more shiny or brighter looking. It looks like Nike is going away from that look, a more "matte" look which in turn makes the shade appear darker. My guess, this uniform material/shade is gonna look killer with matte helmets.
  9. WTF? Of course everyone wants you to post them. Please do. In the meantime, I believe this is one of the new teasers: http://www.vikings.c...ose-article.jpg But Mauer can correct me if I'm wrong. Dont know if thats part of the new clues, but looking at the URL, thats from vikings.com for sure and by the last part of the URL, thats the close up of the jersey. Simple! I love seeing the gold wordmark on purple, no other outlines needed. ***NEVERMIND, JUST CHECKED VIKINGS.COM AND ITS THE HEADER FOR AN ARTICLE ON THE SITE, NOT ONE OF THE CLUES, SORRY 'BOUT THAT***
  10. UP FOR DEBATE! Alright folks, I pose this question to you... Which away jersey stripe system do you like better, the "Northwestern" stripes of the 60's or the shoulder stripes of the 70's-90's? Northwesterns are here Shoulders are here I'll start by saying that the shoulder stripes are what I grew up watching, so they have a special place in my heart, but seeing those 60's photos, I'd say they get my vote. Plus it matched the home.
  11. The number font on their most recent set has always bothered me too Absolutely! They got a little less rounded this year with the switch to Nike, so they looked okay. But before they looked awful. "Child-like" is the perfect way to put it. Glad to know I'm not alone on this! To me, its all about the details, and this is one detail that i thought was a FAIL.
  12. Something that always bugged me about the current Viking's unis were those numbers. They are slab-serif, but are rounded too! I thought it always made them look child-like or not as aggresive. Give me a slab serif or san-serif (like the Bears or Steelers) but dont soften the old school slab-serif please. Just wondering if this bothered anyone like it did me.
  13. Yeah, I could be remembering it wrong, but i think Colorwerx already confirmed that the only color change the Vikes were getting was the slightly different gold. That makes sense to me. I know the shade of purple has been a bit of a hot topic on other boards, I am personally glad to see the current purple stay. I remember when they updated this a few years back. From a designer's persective, I can tell you that purple is very hard to match when you are talking paint and fabric, a pain in the ass. On top of that, I know they had a big problem of how purple looks in indoor light compared to outdoor light. This is why the 90's Vikings always looked like they were wearing something closer to blue when they played their games in the HHH Dome. Consistency is what its all about and as long as it's not any lighter than what it is, no complaints here.
  14. I know there has been a lot of talk of people wanting to go back a darker shade of purple, but with the realease of the new draft caps (yes, complete with new logo) it looks like these will be the official colors for the Vikings and there fore, what will be used on the unis. http://www.nflshop.com/product/index.jsp?productId=19782006&cp=20509626.20509806&pageType=family&parentPage=family
  15. Wait. Black? Why? The new blue, or orange are great options but they chose black? The only way I can see black looking good is if they went with the original Marlins color scheme (aqua/teal, black and white) and dropped orange almost completely. i love the orange. It would be a shame for them to phase it out. Its apart of their history. Orange is a better looking color on jerseys with the aqua then the black Don't get me wrong, I agree with you 1000%. I'm just sayin' that IMO the only way the black would work is with the absence of orange. In my perfect world they would only have aqua, orange and white. No navy. But that' just me. I dought the color black will be used, its probably the navy color I hope my source is wrong, or they changed it! I am also glad these are the new colors from Colorwerx! i like that blue so much better More of a pastel shades.................................. The colors of the uniform will be exactly what we see used for the new logo. Speculation over.
  16. Exactly, because nothing says "Retro" and "Tough" like an overy shiny helmet... It's gotta be matte. It's the latest gotta have trend. Minnesota, Ohio, Bowling Green, TCU, Mizzu, Arkansas, Duke, Georga Tech, Baylor, Navy, Wake Forest, West Virgina, Boise... you get the picture. I'm not saying teams dont have shiny helmets, I'm just saying matte seems to be the latest adopted trend, especially one that fits into the "Retro" and "Tough" catagories. I dont remember seeing many teams in the 60's or 70's with Shiny ass helmets. https://www.google.c...iw=1278&bih=961 Purple chrome/metallic with gray facemask is my guess. Has anyone been paying attention to all of the new trends of helmets in college!? My guess by retro and many would be a "flat" purple, not some super shiny purple. You heard it here first, a darker purple MATTE helmet with current horns. (Give or take the gray face mask) Yep, we have. Shiny Rutgets, Shiny Baylor, Shiny Oregon... lol, so chrome = sissy and matte = tough. Got it. thats the connotations i get as well. why laugh? Because its taking one opinion/understanding and proclaiming it as fact when there is actually no real evidence one way or the other. To one person, chrome is sissy. To another, its tough. Its all a matter of preference/bias. Hearing somebody describe a helmet as "tough" does not indicate one way or the other whether its chrome, matte, or just a standard helmet finish. agreed. im not going to make any assumptions about the Vikings helmet based on what someone has said. (taking Allen's words and building a concept in my own head, i see black and a thick stripe) but i do agree with Chawls' interpretation/connotations of matte and chrome finish themselves. its 2 completely different attitudes, and i think the words he used are accurate. Hey folks, I think you are taking what I said the wrong way. In no way did i use or infer the term sissy at all, nor did I mention Jared's use of the word manly. I just said tough and retro. Knowing the paint is changing, and the reaction the helmet, and the fact that Nike uses the NCAA as its testing field before brining things to the Pros, the options are 1. Shiny or 2. Matte. I would say that Matte is tough, durable, strong, subdued looking and yes, somewhat retro in a modern way. To that, I would describe shiny as fast, sleek, modern, and flashy looking. This has nothing to do with Manly vs Sissy, or any other sexist statment. One's not better than the other and I am certainly not trying to say something about you if you like the shiny paint. I am just saying, given the context clues, matte makes better sense than shiny. PaleVermilion81, if they have shiny helmets when all is revealed, I'll gladly be the first to tell you that you were right and I was wrong.
