If they move out of the Bay Area, would it be time to retire the "Athletics" name?  IMO it should have been retired in the '50s when they left Philadelphia, but keeping it as they move around and around doesn't make a lot of sense to me since it doesn't have any local meaning to any city that they'd be starting new in, and it's value as a brand has eroded over time... despite their relative recent successes.

"DB" is Darwin Barney, one of the investors for the potential team. My initial reaction is why not just keep the name going?

But thinking about it a little more, would anybody be upset if they leave the Athletics brand with Oakland for a potential team in the future? How many cities does the name need to bounce around to? If any of the A's cities deserve to keep the identity, it's Oakland.

  2. So the target year for this is 2023? Coincidentally, a couple weeks back, Russell Wilson seemed confident that Portland could have a team as early as 2023. He probably already received word of this plan with the Rays. The time frame and whether they get an expansion team or existing team depended on the stadium situations in Tampa Bay and Oakland.

Is it ok to say the old Titans set was trash? The helmet stripe, shoulder yoke and pants stripe didn’t match, and the font got dated pretty quickly.

That doesn’t mean the Titans’ new set is a masterpiece. Just a slight upgrade over its predecessor.

Agreed. The Ravens-like helmet stripes didn't fit, and that blocky shoulder yoke just looked stale and pointless.

I’m not really sure this is “Unpopular” anymore after the unveiling of their Current disaster sets, but the Titans old set was a good, solid uniform. It was, in my opinion, some red accents and their old Social Media number font away from being a great set.

Idk. The new look isn't perfect and could use some tweaking, but I think it's a stronger look overall. The new helmet especially is a much better fit. The white one was always weak looking to me. Just my unpopular opinion.

I just wish the panthers would drop every instance of silver in their colour scheme for white. It would look so much better, cleaner and more vibrant

Yeah the silver just comes off tacky and unnecessary. Even a bit of charcoal like the Eagles instead would fit better than all that silver.

I can't deal with the white hats.  I don't generally like sleeveless, but I agree that (neck-down) this is a pretty sharp look.  That look with sleeved jerseys would be fantastic.

The white cap is unique, and works for this look. I wouldn't recommend it for every team, but it looks good and stands out here. Kinda like the O's home cap. I would like to see it, at least as an alt.

Completely agree. Still looks completely modern and unique to this day. Very much would have been one of the "untouchable" looks in baseball if only the Reds kept it around.

Yep. Especially with all the red uniforms in MLB today, their current set is just too basic looking. Nothing about it stands out. This is a unique, classic look for them.

I like the Weagle a lot but it's always bugged me how incorrect the point/spire/(actually a statue) is...

I don't know how important the detail of the statue is in that particular design, but they probably could at least widen the point a bit and make the stand bigger.

That's odd. Normally I'd be with you in calling for more teal, but I loved the silver script. Maybe a bit stronger of a teal accent would have been nice, but that script looked wonderful to me.

Maybe adding more teal to it would help, but to me it just looked flat out incomplete or blank.

That black road alt was gorgeous, especially the silver and teal script, but the rest of the set really needed more teal. At least the 1997 set had teal pinstripes.

The black alt was the jersey that needed more teal. The silver letters on black jersey was just an odd look. You can barely see the teal outline.

They gave it a hell of a shot. My only real qualm is that Chicago and NY/NJ's identities were much too similar.

They should've at least switched. Chicago Hitmen fits, if not even better, and New York Enforcers has a better ring to it.

I don't understand why the Jets need black. Green and white provide plenty of contrast on their own, and look so much cleaner. The Detroit Lions got rid of black, and it improved their uniform by leaps and bounds.

I don't understand this comparison. Kelly green and black looks great together, and it would be unique combo that ties into the Jets' history. It's not just black for black sake.

Here's one: the New York Jets have had plenty of decent-to-good uniforms, but have never truly had an elite, unforgettable look in my opinion. Their SB III set is their most iconic for obvious reasons, but none of it has anything to do with a name that should have some very interesting design possibilities. In general they've been too plain.

Yeah they need an update. They went back to a mediocre look that they just happened to win a SB in decades prior, and it was a failure. They should try an update with kelly green and black. Maybe with a green or black helmet.

Maybe this is an unpopular opinion but I think that a yellow outline and the 2016 hat would've got (most) people to shut up about brown.

Oh I definitely agree. It was a great look that no other team had (other than the ate-up Brewers.) I noticed even the most vocal advocates for brown were quieter than normal that year. Even though they'll probably still rather have brown, you couldn't be upset with that look. It's really baffling how they wore it, and then ditched it after a year when nobody was complaining. Even if that was the initial plan, why not just keep it?

OMG I'm not the only one!

Yea, I'd rather them not be just navy and white but if they ARE gonna be just navy and white then well, at least they don't look THAT bad. Some consistency would be nice too. Say they wear this uniform set for the next 20 years? People might actually start thinking they're pretty decent looking. And yes I agree on them looking "clean." A few teams have pulled off a decent blue and white look so it's not impossible for the Padres to eventually do the same.

The Padres also use a brighter shade of navy than the Yankees and Tigers, and their letters are completely different. You'll never mistake them for any other team. Nice, distinct look.

I really respect the Dodgers for keeping it simple and classy but I just cannot understand why they don't wear this jersey during the regular season. It's beautiful, and I think that if they only wore it a few times year at the most, it would be the perfect alternate.

It's basically a color version of their regular jersey, which is the best kind of color alt.

I love this Cardinals look even if it is BFBS. That crappy rebook template is passable here.

Yeah, I guess technically it's not even BFBS since black is a part of their scheme. Either way it's a nice, unique look. You would think white helmets with black jerseys will look odd. With white pants completing the look, and splashes of red throughout, they're really pulling it off.

I prefer this Panthers set as a primary rather than an alternate uniform.  In a division with so much black (Saints, Falcons, Panthers) the electric blue really breaks it up.

It's time. The Redskins should drop the gold pants, just like they did in the 1970s.

White jersey/burgandy pants is good, which they've already switched back to since last season. Burgandy jersey/gold pants still looks good. The gold contrasts nicely with the burgandy. Gorgeous, unique look. White pants is too plain. The Chiefs have that boring look, but they're not going to wear yellow pants with that bright red.
