  3. I can't think of another championship ring that has taken more of a team (as in players) approach to the design of a ring. Having every player's number within the 2015, and a depiction of the "team" holding up the Larry O'Brien trophy creates a nice narrative. Combine that with inside and outside elements of Oracle Arena on the ring and you have a very unique design.
  4. First look at the Chicago Blackhawks 2015 Stanley Cup championship ring. Looks like a cross between the 2010 and 2013 rings. Looks like a lot of white gold, diamonds, and antique finish. A little color, like what the 2013 ring had, wouldn't have hurt.
  5. Looks a bit undersized compared to what usually passes now for a NFL ring. In my opinion the face of the ring looks kinda cheap. Another sub-par performance by Tiffany.
  6. After you look past the fact that it's a rehash of the 2012 Detroit Tigers AL Championship ring (Don't work too hard Jostens), it is a nice ring. I like the 3 diamonds to represent the 3 AL championships in team history. The color added to the crown and KC on the other shank is a nice touch. I think that if the KC on the face was also blue it would really pop against the field of white diamonds.
  7. I'm a little surprised that the NCAA didn't put a mention of the 1st playoff champion in the shanks. I think later versions of the ring should include the playoff logo. The NFL requires the Super Bowl logo on Super Bowl championship rings. I personally don't think the top is that bad. It's an upgrade over the old rings.
  8. Yeah, MLS isn't on quite the shoestring some might think. But that ring is a bit skimpy, so to speak. From a design perspective it's kind of lame as well. I looked at those photos at least 5 times before realizing that "MLS Cup Champions" was wrapped around the team's logo... and once more (just now) to realize that "2014" is in there as well. In general I think the MLS produces some really nice championship rings. This most current one from the Galaxy isn't their nicest and I think the staff rings, which lack the diamond shield behind the crest, look better. Here are some more images of the rings that I can't post on this forum. http://www.lagalaxy.com/blog/beat/2015/03/03/la-galaxy-players-overjoyed-receive-2014-mls-cup-rings
  9. Wow, where did the picture (and ring come from)??? I wonder if it is an authentic prototype - who would design or allow the word "Champs" (this putting slang into the super bowl or championship ring universe). Putting "CHAMPS" on a ring has happened before (1989 Oakland A's).
  10. The bottom left has its strong points. The diamond SF on the black diamond provides great contrast. It's all the diamonds around the outside that ruin the ring. How I would design the 2014 ring. 1. This logo is well shaped for the face of a ring. Put World Champions around it, dress it in diamonds and colored stones, and you're done. It would also set it apart from the 2010 and 2012 rings. We've seen this before: 2. The Giants have placed San Francisco trademarks on their 2 previous rings. For the inside shank I would have 2014 at the top, AT&T Park looking out towards the bay in the middle, and a SF at the bottom. 3. For the outside shank you could add some personalization. At the top the recipient's last name, in the middle 1-3 World Series trophies depending on how many that individual won with the team, and at the bottom the player's number or the number 8 on a baseball, home plate, or diamond for the 8 world championships in franchise history. Anyone else think about ring designs?
  11. I agree with you on the shanks. The shanks of the ring are often my favorite part because of the details you can find on them. I thought the 2010 shanks, while simple, were nice but the 2012 shanks were underwhelming. I don't know if we should blame the SF Giants or Tiffany. Tiffany has shown their ability to produce detailed shanks if you look at the most recent NY Giants Super Bowl ring. Here's hoping that the 2014 SF Giants World Series ring packs more details.
  12. I came across this on Twitter. Supposedly these were ring designs that the SF Giants rejected in 2010 and 2012.
  13. This Harvard ring is great because of the crimson shield, but overall this ring design has been repeated the last few years. If you look at things like many of you have already said, Jostens finds a template they like and use it repetitively.
  14. I was born and raised in Peoria IL, which is halfway between Chicago and St. Louis. A lot of my favorite teams came from my dad and most of them are local. I only cheer for one team that I do not have a geographic or academic ties to. I also like to bring up the fact that I was born in 1985, which were very good times for some of these teams. St. Louis Cardinals- Peoria is Cards/Cubs battleground. I grew up listening to my grandfather telling stories about Stan Musial and Enos Slaughter, while my dad talked about Bob Gibson, Lou Brock, and Ted Simmons. Ozzie Smith was probably the first pro athlete I ever recognized and became a fan of. Around the age of 9 I found a VHS tape on the Cardinals 100th anniversary and got tied up in the history of the team. One reason chose to go to undergrad at SIU-Edwardsville because I would be close to St. Louis and the Cards. As a broke college student I spent $400 I didn't have to get a brick outside of Busch Stadium with my name on it. I am a Cardinals fan above all else and always will be. Chicago White Sox- "The enemy of my enemy is my friend." I began following the South Siders in 2000 when they were running towards a division crown. You might not believe this, but I told everyone I knew prior to the 2005 season that the Cards and White Sox would meet in the World Series and I was almost right. Peoria native Jim Thome's arrival only strengthened my ties to the team. Now if they'd only dump Hawk and learn how to build a minor league system... Chicago Bears- No team has been more frustrating to watch in my lifetime, but I can't imagine cheering for anyone else but Da Bears. Chicago Bulls- I can't say that I watch the NBA much anymore, but growing up in the mid-90s with Jordan and Pippen was a sports fan dream. I vaguely remember the first 3-peat but I do remember Jordan's retirement, comeback, and subsequent 3-peat repeat. I have a lot of nostalgia for the mid to late 90s NBA. St. Louis Blues- I wasn't much of hockey fan growing up. The Blues had a minor league affiliate in Peoria but I didn't start paying attention until I was in STL for college. St. Louis has a well earned reputation as a baseball town, but when it gets cold they support the Blues good or bad and I admired that. Plus when the Blackhawks started winning cups it seemed like everyone and their mother became a Hawks fan overnight. That only strengthened my fandom for the Blues. Liverpool FC- After the 2006 World Cup I started to take an interest in the EPL. Liverpool had a player with the same last name as me, and I had never seen a pro athlete with my last name before. That was enough to decide my fandom and I've been singing YNWA ever since. NCAA SIU Edwardsville Cougars- Went to undergrad there. They haven't been D-I for very long with no football team, but I'm looking forward to the day the mens basketball team makes the tourney for the first time USC Trojans- I am a semester away from my masters from here. "Fight On" has become a personal motto. I am very proud to be a Trojan. Illinois Fighting Illini- being an Illinois native, I believe that it's only right to cheer for the namesake state school. Bradley University Braves- Peoria school. Some of my favorite memories with my dad are going to their games when they were a Missouri Valley basketball power in the 90s. Chicago Fire- State team but if the MLS ever comes to St. Louis I'll probably jump ship since soccer is so big in that region. Secondary teams I cheer for: Washington Nationals/Capitals/DC United- I spent some time living in DC and tend to pull for these teams if they're playing. Baltimore Orioles- I had a great uncle who lived in Maryland and I became a fan of Cal Ripken Jr. when he was going after 2131 consecutive games. My uncle told me he would take me to a game during the 1995 season when my family would be out there to visit. Sadly he died of a heart attack 2 months before we made it out there. Might sound sappy but when I finally made it to Camden Yards in 2011, I bought a ticket a for him. Tampa Bay Rays- My mom, brother, and grandparents all live in the Tampa area. My brother is a Cubs fan so we were always giving each other a hard time growing up. The Rays have given us some common ground. St. Louis Rams- I'll watch them if they're on.
  15. I understand the love for the original Sonics look and why the rebrand before the move to OKC was also well liked, but I really like(d) this logo and uniform set and prefer it over any other Sonics look.
  16. I don't mind that the Spurs 2014 looks comparable to the 2003 ring. I can't fault a team for using their own logo (unless it's done incorrectly, see 2013 Red Sox). What I do find interesting is the 2003 ring says "World Champions" and the 2007 ring says "NBA Champions" on the face. Lastly, at least the Larry O'Brien trophy looks decent on the Spurs ring. Jostens usually does a good job, but the diamonds to represent the basketballs on last year's Miami Heat ring were too small causing the trophies to look a little off.
  17. The LA Kings new Stanley Cup ring might not be the best looking ring ever but at least it's different. The ring designs were getting predictable over the last 10 years, the team's logo on top of a Stanley Cup. I'm convinced the only reason last year's Blackhawks ring didn't fit that description is because they had already done it in recent memory.
  18. According to this article, Terry Bradshaw donated his championship rings. http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/wac/2006-04-10-bradshaw-donation_x.htm
  19. I remember reading once that the wife of Jerry Reinsdorf (owner of the Bulls and White Sox) had a lot of input on the design of the Bulls and White Sox championship rings. If this is true it'd probably explain why the White Sox ring has that oval feminine shape. Even with that said, I'd still take one.
  20. I don't think a there's a big difference between the 49ers ring of 94 and rings of today. The 49ers commentated their 5th Super Bowl win, something no other team could say at the time and only 2 more since. I would argue that the Patriots, Cowboys, Steelers, Giants, Ravens and Packers all used large stones to commemorate multiple Super Bowl wins since with the body of the trophy being made of multiple diamonds increasing bragging rights for the number of diamonds on that ring. Enamel paint may add nice details but it can also rub off. I think colored details on the shanks in the future will follow the example of the Patriots and STL Cardinals and use colored stones. Yellow gold may be out at the moment, but lets not forget that the Steelers have also used it in recent memory. White gold is fitting for Seattle as there is not a yellow gold color on their logo.
  21. Unlike most fans I don't like these uniforms. They're a gimmicky money grab faux back. I liked the fact that the Cards had a single home and away uniform (much like the Yankees and Tigers). I have accepted that these probably aren't going away anytime soon.
  22. Sporting Kansas City got their 2013 MLS Cup rings today. MLS rings have come a long way in the last few years. More information can be found here. http://www.sportingkc.com/news/2014/05/sporting-kansas-city-presented-stunning-mls-cup-championship-rings-jostens
  23. There are championship rings for things you've probably never thought of. My grandfather was the 1974 sheep sheering national champion, and for that he became the first person they awarded a championship ring to.
