  1. I seriously thought this was going to be a thread of players who were changing numbers, and not another ridiculous soapbox for everyone to argue as if their opinions are superior to anyone else's.

As a college football fan, I don't care at all. In fact, I've always thought it was a ridiculous rule.

If you're a fan of a team, you should know what number they wear and not be thrown off by it not fitting what NFL stars of the 90s wore when they played the same position.

I never once thought #2 for Alabama, Derrick Henry, was actually a scrambling QB or a kicker running a trick play. Hell, I wasn't even confused when the #2 on DEFENSE made an interception. Having two players wear the same number at the same time is way more confusing than no longer arbitrarily gatekeeping certain numbers from certain players.

I came here to see if my boy Henry was changing back to #2 in the NFL. I was honestly blown away by what this thread turned in to.

I've been on these forums a long long time. I can't tell if I've changed or if the discourse here has just absolutely tanked, but good lord, y'all. Forgive my frustrations, but this place is starting to border on caricature.

  2. The Raiders haven't been in Los Angeles since 1994. They have just as much sway in LA from Vegas as they did Oakland.

We gotta stop arguing our cases for what we WANT to happen, as if a universe of facts back it up, when it doesn't.

  3. I'll never understand why hockey fans are so different than other sports about relocated teams.

No one cries that the Ravens can't be the Colts or that Indianapolis shouldn't wear the same uniforms Unitas did.

No one acts like the Timberwolves have more right to the Lakers identity than Los Angeles does.

It's just never made sense to me after two decades arguing about it.

Your statement is both hilarious and sad.  I can't believe the least important part of the jersey has become a talking point.  I wish more teams would just switch the collars to a single colour, using only the thinner part, especially teams that are already using a single colour like the Red Wings, Leafs, and Canucks.

My statement is hilarious and sad, yet the next words out of your mouth are that you agree with me that the single color collar is the right move?

This website has gotten so strange in recent years.

  5. really the only problem with the vegas jerseys is the color balance and contrast.

those big white stripes just absolutely ruin it. gold and black would have been fine. they didn't have to follow the exact template to a T for an alternate. gold body, black to anchor it down, and grey to emphasize the distinction between grey and black that makes their identity is really all they needed. a little red if they desire, too...

but that gold body, grey (that looks like ugly faded black when it isn't paired WITH black, imo) and clunky white stripes ruin it.

honestly, more black would go a long way to making it look solid. it just looks weak to me, and like a bad concept or fashion jersey.

If the rumours of the NHL granting each team a fulltime "throwback" jersey slot in addition to the regular and alternates are real, I wouldn't be surprised if Toronto ends up using these. Same goes for the Oilers classic Royal and Blue, the Canucks flying Skate, the Hurricanes Whalers jerseys, St Louis' disgusting crayola uniforms, etc.

    I'd kill for this....

I think the Stars are one of the only teams in the entire big 4 that has never worn an actual throwback jersey in a game. Ever.

I don't care if it's the North Stars look, the early 90's look, the Cup sweater, or the Mooterus. I wanna see some throwback action in Dallas, without ruining our chances at a new third jersey.

  7. I guess what is throwing me off is that I'm completely unfamiliar with the "release the kraken" phenomenon.

That's not how I became aware of the word Kraken, so I don't associate it with a meme or a movie.

It's just a bad ass mythical animal that doesn't actually exist anywhere.

  8. I usually think I'm a pretty good barometer for opinions on this site, but I'm so far from the center on this topic.

I really think Kraken would be an amazing identity. Sparky has proven it a dozen times over that he could make it work, too.

I think y'all are overstating the meme and movie associations. Regardless of which ocean it is better associated, it's still a mythical creature and I feel that makes it fair game for any port.

If they end up with something safe and boring and emeralds or evergreens, I'll be disappointed. Sockeyes is cool. Kraken is fun. Totems and Metropolitans both get a pass from me on historical grounds.

I just think a giant mythical squid is exactly the kind of thing that could become iconic across every medium of branding.

  9. I'd buy a Kraken jersey.

I've thought every expansion team since the Wild/Jackets/Preds/Thrashers had awful names. Golden Knights included.

I can get behind some nautical Norse mythological hockey action, though.

And I've never seen whatever movie y'all keep talking about.

Why cant we have a conversation on whether or not a teams look is creative or not? Im not trying to change anyone's mind, im merely stating the tripes are the same. all im asking for is people to respond back to me with posts that make sense instead of false accusations, calling me mean, and making terrible comparisons to prove me wrong that make no sense and making fun of me when all im doing is making an comparison between two teams' looks.

you aren't trying to change minds. you're just trying to belittle anyone that disagrees with you. which is just about everyone.

take the L and move on, bud.
