Eh, it's not super relevant. I certainly see more Magic coverage in Tampa compared to any other NBA teams. And the Magic partner with the Bucs, Lightning, and Rays on a number of community projects. It's not that out there to think there's some overlap between the two.

Because of the local broadcast partners (Fox Sport Florida and Fox Sports Sun), FS Florida usually sticks with the Miami teams (Panthers, Heat, Marlins) and FS Sun takes the rest (Magic, Lightning, Rays).

There are also different feeds in the Miami and Central Florida areas.  For me in the Tampa Bay area, Rays and Lightning are on FS Sun, and Magic go to FS Florida.

From what I've seen and heard, this is an "option" because the relationship between Charlotte and Carolina has deteriorated. Whether that's front office or more on the ownership side, I'm not sure but given Dundon's history, it wouldn't surprise me if he's pissed someone else off.

That would have the be the only reason theyd consider moving affiliates from a regional pairing to the leftover Chicago Wolves.

Florida-Chicago could make sense as flights can be had pretty easy from MDW and ORD to Fort Lauderdale.

I'd like it if minor league team's alts resembled the parent team. For example, the Knights have their own identity and branding, using black, gold, and white and entirely unique logos and wordmarks but had that SOX fauxback that I kinda wish became permanent, if only for that cap. Of course, the Knights also wear pinstripes so that's another connection to the ChiSox but I think relying on the parent team's brand results in a weaker brand overall, one that doesn't connect to the minor league city and also reduces the parent club's brand because it can potential cause confusion (not that it's all that likely, but when the Red Sox and PawSox's jerseys are basically identical I draw the line). Additionally, if the Major League-style jersey is an alt, it helps reduce the amount of stupid food-based alts we see. It's win-win!

Yes this is a good idea.  Ive always thought that minor league teams should have their own identity, but something like an alternate could be affiliate themed since these jerseys are usually used on a 1-3 season use rotation.

The NFL schedule is about to be released this week. Can we get the 2020 season thread started?

Seeing all the new uniforms for this year is really making me want to get Madden 21. I want to get the game already.

The 2020 season thread for general talk is in Sports In General.

This one should suffice until the real season begins in the fall.

Another region that you hear that isn't as obvious is Tampa Bay.  I think it's fair that Tampa wouldn't have teams if not for the supplemental population provided by St. Petersburg and Clearwater, so it probably makes sense to go with a regional name there too.

Youre exactly right there.  Tampa Bay works because the region is kinda stuck in a twin cities mentality (with St Pete being the main cause, but Clearwater sure does add population).  To this day you still hear the arguments against going across one of the 3 bridges from county to county.

If the teams here were just called "Tampa", and the way things are and have been you'd essentially be cutting off your fanbase just because of it.

I don't really get the Fromm pick for Buffalo. They can win now and would be better served by an experienced backup (Dalton?) than a rookie.

Unless they're keeping out of the conference/division, which, whatever, seems a little too cute by half.

Dalton would have required a trade.  Fromm is cheaper as well.

If they can add Create-A-Team back in, then it's a definite buy for me.

But yeah, something was always off to me with the Rams and Chargers in the previous installment. Plus knowing the Raiders were moving always felt pointless keeping them in Oakland in the game.

Yeah I know sometimes in previous years if you're playing franchise mode, theyll relocate the team to a model of the new stadium the year prior, but that did not occur in Madden 20 to my understanding

    Hi. They are.

At the very least, they're a good place to start from for an update. The 2004 uniforms have never worked. They were slightly improved by Nike in 2012, but they're stale and bad and tired and the color rush is new and clean and fresh.

Agreed, those Bengals CR white unis are a solid foundation.  Mix in a touch of orange in the sleeves and pant stripes.  I've also always thought the Bengals should be an orange home jersey team, would you agree or would you prefer black @Sport

The helmet numbers effectively replace the TV numbers.

I never thought we'd see helmet numbers again, because of merchandising.  What number do people that want a helmet buy?  You don't want to get a player one, because like a jersey, it'd be out of date when the player leaves.  Also, in promotional material, what number do they use?  Some of that material (like pennants) get used for years, so can't be player specific.

I think putting "L A" in place of the numbers would have been a good compromise between the look of the numbers, but more practicality, and cement them as an LA team.

Good question... I know U of Alabama retail helmets sell with the number of national titles they have on the helmet, so something with precedent like that would work.  Maybe the year the franchise was established?

    Thanks for the links!

I'm glad I'm not the only one hating the mustard helmets.

How is #27 ranked so high?  Yikes.

    #15 is #1 for me!

#2: love the pink and square numbers.

I just want the chrome helmets back.

The chrome gold ones are not really liked by the fanbase.  The mustard gold is something I have been fond of more recently, since it seems they have a better ability to match the golds, but the green lids are my favorites.

  11. Ok so with only the Rams and Chargers left here is my list of current unveils for 2020 ranked best to worst.

    Colts

    Browns

  12. I've never been a fan of the Patriots uniforms since the 2000's design, but this new for 2020 set is a solid downgrade.

I get the move for simplification (which when done well, is great), but the clunky number font with inconsistencies is weird.  The mono blue is a bad choice, despite it being what the Color Rush alts were previously.

Maybe we can hope silver pants can come quickly, much like the Browns have said they'll work to have an orange set for 2020.
