For “market data” they’re clearly using city population data for the top four. And by that metric El Paso is just as good of a market as Boston.

But Worcester’s population is around 200k, and they have an ECHL team, so I don’t know why they’re not listed.

But for Frederick, they’re using their county population, so it’s not even an apples-to-apples comparison. Just blatantly using different metrics here.

Yeah, they really need to use that "market" term correctly.  Orlando's market population should be 2mil+.  Jacksonville is at least 1.5mil.

Atlanta was clearly ignored.  They must've used Duluth, GA as the city "market"

What was the average space between byes the last time the NFL had them?

It looks like 1993 was the last time the NFL had two bye weeks (16 games over 18 weeks).  There were 28 teams (pre Jacksonville, Carolina, new Cleveland, and new Houston).  I havent seen a set list of who had bye weeks.

Understood. But adding one more week of games and then adding more byes that are unlikely to be spread outside the current bye week period means fewer games in a given weekend. that might not even be allowed with the current broadcast contracts - I don't know.

I don't think its been confirmed, but why would they jam all teams two bye weeks into the current 9 week period (currently weeks 5-14, week 8 had no bye weeks in 2023)?  I could see them making the bye week period a little longer, maybe even having two "sections" so bye weeks aren't too close and each team has one in the first part and one in the second part.  Maybe even a rule stating the two bye weeks could be no less than "x" weeks apart.

I'm no lawyer, but I would have to think that the broadcast contracts have clauses built in about adding more games to the schedule as a cause for renegotiation or specific stipulations.  The league added an extra game 2 years ago without major hiccups.

ETA -  Gambling partners won't want a limit to the number of games played in a given week due to added byes. I don't see it happening.

A normal by week in 2023 had between 2 and 6 teams off in 2023 between weeks 5 and 14 (4 weeks had 4 teams, 2 weeks had 2 and 2 weeks had 6).  This means at worst a week had no fewer than 13 games played.  You'd also be adding 16 additional "betting events" for gambling partners with an extra week.

If an 18 game schedule is happening, throw a two week bye in there mid season for all teams. Gives all players time to rest and players who have been traded proper time to adjust in their new settings.

There's no way the league will allow a 2 week pause for the entire league, if anything for the media partners.  2 bye weeks is definitely possible, but not that the same time or consecutively.

Like the blue jersey/red cap combo. Less enamored of the front number being gone...no matter how much I dislike that font.
But hey, the jersey is now 0.75% lighter, so the players are now faster!

Well they also modified the angle of the wordmark lower (for the better).  There's still room for the number, but if losing the number meant a properly aligned wordmark I'll take it.

I can't embed images from Flickr, Google Drive, or Tumblr to the forums.  The "insert image from URL" button refuses to accept them.  Grabbing and linking random images from the web works just fine, though.

If you use the direct image URL from those sites, you should be able to post the images here.   If it's a personal Google drive, you'll have to host them publicly somewhere to obtain a direct image URL.  The forums do not host photos and any images need to come from elsewhere.

Looks like South Florida has added a serif name above a non-serif number on their white jerseys.  Oof.

Are you talking about these?   If so, this isn't new.  These have been like this for a few years now.

No one cares about the Blue Jackets. Why is it in Columbus?

Because its probably going to play up the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry.

Makes me wonder if they'll somehow design the jerseys to reflect the college teams.

Brandiose definitely has the potential to make a comeback. Their earlier works with brands like the El Paso Chihuahuas and Biloxi Shuckers were truly great. Unfortunately,  the typical elements they've used (googly eyes, muscle flex, teeth grinning), along with the adjective names, got tiresome when shown with later brands like the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, Fort Myers Mighty Mussels and so on. Maybe they can capitalize on quality over quantity down the stretch. I think it would be good for them because they clearly have the talent.

Heck, their first design on the market was the Clearwater Threshers (they were still Plan B Branding at the time).  An identity that still stands strong 20 years later.

Have you been to Tampa? It wouldn't surprise me one bit if that was intentional.

Seriously, that theory is ridiculous at best.  It's already been said the three stripes on the sleeves paired with the three stripes on the socks reflect against the victory stripes from the original jerseys.

Obviously the Chiefs will be on the Week 1 Thursday opener next season,  so who should they play? 4 scheduled opponents come to mind: Ravens, Bengals, Texans or Chargers.

Going by past history of the kickoff game, they don't seem to schedule divisional matchups (outside of 2019 when Packers-Bears was the kickoff game in honor of the NFL 100 season, and didn't feature the Super Bowl champ).  Chiefs also played Houston in 2020 to kickoff the season.  For those reasons, I wouldn't count on Texans or Chargers.

Man, after looking at the renderings for the new Royals Stadium, downtown KC and the arena look incredible. I think the NHL would absolutely thrive there.

The arena has been there in KC for what, 15 years now and no permanent tenant?  KC probably needs ownership interest first, since we saw Vegas and Seattle added thru expansion.

There's usually three (or four) versions made.

    Standard 59Fifty
    Low Crown 59Fifty
    The FlexFit
    and then the adjustable version

The Mets BP hat shown earlier might even be a 5th option, because this one looks more like the "dad hat" adjustable.

That new Marlins Park is right in the middle of some residential blocks in a way that kind of shocked me for such a new build, but not in a charming way.

It was because the classic Orange Bowl stadium used to be there and it was available when the Marlins were looking.  City of Miami gave the Marlins a "good deal".  It's not perfect, but eh.
