Going through my father-in-law's junk after he died, I found this weird promotional newspaper all about the local Fox affiliate from ~1990. They had like 20 Sabres games on a free OTA channel that year, and I often think about how backwards things are now.

The one I've heard that interests me the most would work off of points earned after you were eliminated from playoff contention, either straight up or assigning percentages. So you can tank and build a team that gets 50 points in 82 games, but you have to actually win some games at some point to get good odds at #1 overall.

Not that I believe it was rigged, but the Penguins were in serious trouble at the time... old arena, low attendance, poor performance. They were possibly a relocation candidate.

Didn't the owners of the Hawks and arena basically leave the baby Thrashers at the door of the metaphorical fire station? Like Glendale with the Coyotes, helping new owners would have meant another, newer arena to compete for other events.

Heart attack at home, CPR done by one of her daughters, and a really tough road back to any kind of normal. Pretty crazy to think the Pegula family watched Damar Hamlin almost die on the field 6 months after their wife/mother went through a similar thing.

I think it's an easy way they could swing the balance a tiny bit toward the defense. Kind of like you sometimes see someone in the middle of the field commit to a hit, but then the person they're hitting does something after to make it helmet-to-helmet. I think it's too hard for the defense to decide whether the runner is going to go out or stretch out for another step in bounds.

This is not a snap opinion just because the game didn't go the way I wanted, but it bugs me how they literally measure first downs to the inch, but they're so ticky-tack with hitting a guy when he's a quarter second out of bounds.

Allen had horrible accuracy as a rookie, followed by some incredibly good accuracy in following years. He struggled again this year. He reminded me a lot this season of a hockey player trying to play through an injury in the playoffs. Just in general, though, how tf do you write off a 26 year old QB as "over the hill"?
