  2. How about something a little atypical: a history of the flags of a fictional micronation Having been a concept/idea of some kind ever since I was in elementary school, in 6th grade or so I established "Peytonia," a sprawling nation, population 1, with territories including my bedroom at my parents' house, the spare room in that same house, an unofficial claim of Marie Byrd Land in Antarctica, and a similarly unofficial claim of a swath of land on Mars north of Valles Marineris. I've passively on-and-off stuck with it ever since, even if more of an idea than a physical entity. That includes drawing up flags and symbolism! There used to be MS Paint files of all of the early flags and symbols, but those have been lost to the sands of time, so the 2010-11 and 2013-14 are crudely drawn approximations. The 2012 one is actually someone made for me in high school which I still have, so I dug it out and took a picture. As a basic rundown of each: 2010-11: My family refers to me as "Bug" which is a nickname nobody has any idea where it came from, and nobody outside my immediate family calls me by. So I decided to use the bug (specifically an abstracted beetle kind of one?) as my first concrete national symbol. Like I said, the original of this flag is long gone, so I recreated it from memory. It drove my crazy trying to remember whether I had a black bug or a gray or gold bug, and the black and red may be reversed, but you get the idea. Imagine the crude thrown-together approximation here, but even crappier and more compressed and you get the idea. At this point, Peytonia was no particular government, but best described as a monarchy. Perhaps the strong black and red coupled with self-referential icon of its founder reflect that. 2012-2014: at this time, Peytonia was a "Constitutional Monarchy" and I decided to revitalize the flag accordingly. Yellow was introduced as a national color, and the bug went to the wayside, replaced with the "Giraffe" seal (giraffes are one of my favorite animals, though sadly no giraffes are native to Peytonia), with the checkerboard royal shield, flanked by branch and sword, representing growth and power. The flag shown here was by a high school friend based on my design, she definitely idealized the branch from its original idea whereas I genuinely just imagined it representing the weeds that grow outside in the yard of the house (really). The old English lettering spells "Peytonia" and while hard to see that's supposed to be roman numerals representing the year I was born (not telling that, but I absolutely butchered the numbering and had no idea how it worked so its wrong and barely readable anyway). 2013-2014: I got into the Beatles, became quite an idealistic Micronation leader, and the flag transitioned accordingly. While the previous flag still hung up on my bedroom wall, I designed a totally different kind of flag and symbol. The giraffe was eventually retired as a symbol. Light blue canton coupled with the plain white field symbolized peace. I also began writing music at this time, so the new symbol reflected it: a music note coupled with a peace sign. In all a very weird time symbolism wise for Peytonia, which became a Republic and is still to this day (I even wrote a two-page constitution in 2014). 2017: after shelving my duties as leader and sole citizen of Peytonia for a while, I decided to revisit it once again and give it a simple, clean, unique flag. I reincorporated red and yellow, and the yellow and blue stripes have thinner/more spread out dimensions than most tricolors (I based it off of the flag of Crimea). Early variations had no "~P~" at all, but I decided to add it later to fill the white which looked emptier than a normal tricolor since the top and bottom stripes are wider apart. Blue still represents peace as well as good will, and the gold now represents good and fruitful living. As a bonus, I included an updated sketch of the national seal that I did during some downtime at work the other day. Since the flag is simplified, I decided to incorporate the classic symbols of Peytonia back into the national identity by way of its seal. The bug is stamped at the bottom, while the shield is flanked by the giraffes. The same "~P~" appears here for continuity with the flag. The proper roman numeral "MMX" appears as well in the banners reading "Est." and "MMX" to represent the proper naming and founding of Peytonia in 2010.

  6. Reminiscent of old Detroit Lions colors, but that is certainly not a negative. I like this look much better than their current one! Like Morgo said, I'd make blue the dominant colors on the away uniform. That's really my only complaint. Good work!

  9. This would be a nice, tidy, preferable situation, in my opinion. An AFC and NFC team in L.A., and the third party moving to a location that could remain in the AFC/NFC West. I think the Raiders identity would be retired by the NFL if they moved to St. Louis or somewhere outside of the Southwest. The Raiders are one of the region's most popular teams, and it's a team that is very popular with the massive Hispanic population of the area. The Raiders image and brand would be very out of place in St. Louis, whereas it wouldn't be as unfitting if they were moving to San Antonio or L.A. (taking into account the team's history in L.A., of course). Perhaps they could keep the silver and black colors in their rebrand and renaming, as an homage and a sort of streamline continuation of the franchise from one time period to another.

  12. Holy Moley, this was a total curve-ball. What are the odds of The Rams, Chargers and Raiders ALL moving to L.A.? Three teams in one city? Teams have used the "We're gonna move to L.A.if you don't give us a stadium" card a billion times in the last 20 years, but unless I'm mistaken never have they made a joint deal with another team, revealed detailed stadium plans, and had an immediate petition drive launched. This appears to be pretty much a ginormous ultimatum by the Chargers and Raiders, but prospects for new stadiums look quite bleak in both Oakland and San Diego, just like how it looks highly doubtful in St. Louis. Y'know, given L.A.'s size and attraction and power as a market, maybe a three-team scenario might just happen unless something drastic changes in any of these three cities. Or maybe it becomes a game of musical chairs and only two move in? I think that's what's probably going to happen and the odd team out will move elsewhere. Perhaps if it's the Raiders they could continue to look into San Antonio, or is that not really a possible landing place anymore?
  13. Houston Oilers Vs. winged shield Baltimore Ravens. This photo is in fact the very last Houston Oilers game before they moved to Tennessee. This was the Oilers' last year in Houston and the Ravens' first year in Baltimore. I know they were in the same division and the Oilers name and look existed for two more seasons, but the Oilers and Ravens met 6 times in all, and only twice while the Oilers were in Houston.

  15. What an utter DISASTER of a design. Why are the Conference logos on the same side of the field and not in opposite corners? Why is the Flying Elvis underneath the Pats' wordmark? Why couldn't they have just added a little color or design to better differentiate both overly-navy endzones? WHY WILL THERE BE A HUGE BLANK SPACE IN THE PATS ENDZONE THAT ISN'T IN THE SEAHAWKS' ENDZONE?!? There is no symmetry, no rhyme or reason, no order at all. The Pats wordmark would work just fine without the logo below it, just shift it down into the middle and put the logo on the side like common sense and design logic would tell you. At the very least they could have put Seattle's logo under their wordmark. It wouldn't have looked good, but for goodness sake it would've been symmetrical. You could literally just leave the endzones blank with no paint, no logos, nothing, and it would be an improvement over this debacle of a layout. What in the WORLD convinced the field designers that this was a good idea? Good golly, miss molly....give someone else control of field designs....and Super Bowl logo designs while you're at it, too. This is just astounding that such a huge event has been so badly botched design-wise.
  16. My mini-realignment idea only involves two teams switching places in their divisions: AFC North Pittsburgh Cleveland Baltimore Indianapolis AFC South Tennessee Houston Jacksonville Cincinnati It's never made much sense to me that Indianapolis is in the South and Cincinnati is in the North even though Indy is further north than Cincy. Plus with Indy in the same division as Baltimore it would amplify a rivalry between the Baltimore's old team and new team.
  17. Really disappointed that they went back to the old color scheme. The burnt orange/cream look could've been a nice, refreshing change of pace, being a much lesser-used color combo than red and black (with gray). The new logos with the red, gray and black just don't have the "pop" that the orange, cream and black had. It's a shame, but I reckon I'll get used to it.
