Here's a quick and simple Reverse Retro for the Isles. Lou obviously wanted the team to have a conservative design, which is why we got the uninspired mess we did, so this is a very one-sided compromise between that and the fisherman jersey.

Real simple, real straightforward, but a million times better than what we got.

I actually really like the fisherman logo myself but this is a great job and a vast improvement over what was delivered.

I reversed the direction of the rain, so that it would run opposite to the italic font. I don't love the way this turned out. Perhaps because the original wordmark used an ultra bold font, so there was more room to fit in the rain. I'll play around with this and see if I can come up with something better.

It's really not that bad. It might look too cluttered if you're looking at double digits but it's hard to say.

    Thanks!

Thank you, I'm glad you like the Guelph logo! I'll think about that for the Hamilton logo, but I'm pretty happy with those for now.

Thank you! And good call on the hem stripe---I've added it now:

And here's the updated alternate uniform:

And the logos I used on it:

Thanks again to everyone who's given me feedback; it's made these uniforms much better than they could have been otherwise!

Very sharp! That really finishes off the jersey set. Really like the alternate tornado logo.

Not sold on the wordmark or the alternate jersey but I'm probably just being nitpicky.

OK, here are some updates to the home and away:

Instead of introducing a fourth colour, I cut out white and went with two different greys. I think the darker grey makes the uniforms look a lot more finished; thanks again for the suggestion, @Karnage84! I would have liked to have put a silver version of the primary logo directly on the maroon jersey, sans outline, but it would have thrown the colour balance off, since I'm not inclined to drop the chest stripes. I'd appreciate any thoughts on these updates! A new alternate design will be coming, but I have to take some more time to rethink that.

I was wrong, your Guelph logo (with the charcoal) really pops. The jerseys look fantastic. The slightest of feedback points - match the hem line of the away jersey with the home jersey. Add a small maroon stripe on the bottom. Otherwise, these are rock solid and possibly the best in the series.

Your Guelph primary logo is really classy. Definitely an upgrade from the cartoony logo they've got now. The Cathedral logo is pretty nice too.

I do agree with @Karnage84's concerns about the fauxback logo, but it could work if you separate the sections of the tornado instead of having one continuous squiggle. I think the original logo achieves a similar effect, just using different colors rather than gaps.

As for the jerseys, they're a solid design, but such a good one-color logo deserves to go straight onto a jersey with no outline. If I were you, I'd either remove all the white from the home jersey and all gray from the away OR convert the chest striping to hem striping and just let the logo sit on the main color of the jersey.

As for the alt, I think you could just use the original Storm wordmark that your G logo is based on; that font would fit right in to this set, IMO.

Sudbury looks nice, though I wonder if you could replace the black with green on the logos. The Nickel alt is fun, but I might go with flat sleeve striping.

Kingston's alternate jersey/logo is beautiful. Columbus should take note of that. Not necessary, but I'm curious if a K in the wheel as a bit more of a callback would work.

That Windsor turn-ahead-the-clock red jersey (except for the font) is pretty cool! You might match the sleeve striping to the contrail though.

    Good work!

Which could be rectified with a silver/charcoal combo. Black (which they have been using for a while) just feels a bit too harsh and takes away from a nice albeit plain, maroon/silver combo.

What about trying that G logo inside of the triangle and using that as the primary with your current primary as a fauxback? It has a vintage vibe while the G logo has a more modern feel.

Thanks! It certainly wasn't easy figuring out what to do for the Storm. I tried out a modified Platers logo, replacing the lightning with a tornado, but it wasn't working for me. Instead, the alternate is a sort of collegiate-looking, football-inspired jersey, meant as a tribute to the city rather than the "Storm". I had planned the four stripe pattern in my head, but ended up making some modifications for the sake of colour balance. The original idea came from the horizontal winds of a tornado going around the player; I don't know if that idea really comes across, but I like the look regardless. Let me know what you think!

Before moving on to Mississauga, I think I'm going to go back and try Sudbury again. I also have some smaller tweaks planned for Kitchener, Windsor, and Hamilton, which I'd like to check off my list, in addition to any suggestions you may have about these Guelph uniforms.

These are just my thoughts, take them for what you want.

If you wanted to stick with the stripes, I would rather go maroon home and white away. The home jersey looks like an alternate IMO. For your alternate, I'd like to see you utilize that 'G' logo which was a nice callback to their past. I'd also like to see your Basilica logo utlized, probably in your primary's and the triangle used in your alternate. The Basilica is just too nice to not be used while the triangle would strengthen that throwback/fauxback vibe.

Guelph uses black in their colour scheme. I wonder how a mix of maroon/white/silver/charcoal would work. Not a black but a dark grey reminiscent of storm clouds.

I dig the red but maybe with white stripes? Also the white should have been that all along.

    I second this.

Would also include white stripes in the black.

The red is a really nice look and makes a great alternate with this setup.

  8. Agreed on the patch. I think it takes away more from the uniform than it adds. I had my hesitations on the red but it has been tastefully done. I'd consider adding a second stripe on the pants to match the jerseys.

Overall, this is a really solid take which provides something different.

    GUELPH STORM

For as long as I've followed the OHL, the Storm have used an anthropomorphic tornado logo (old, new). That's a relatively common genre of logo, but I don't think I've ever seen one I liked. So, for my redesign, I went through a lot of doodles of possibilities. Southern Ontario doesn't get a lot of any kind of storm, but we get more snowstorms and thunderstorms than serious tornadoes, so I considered switching the theme to one of those, but didn't come up with anything satisfactory. Instead, I cooked up a monogram that reads as a 'G' or an 'S' or an overhead view of a tornado (somewhat like the Carolina Hurricanes logo), depending on how you look at it. The secondary shows the Basilica of Our Lady, which is the best known Guelph landmark and is also used in the current alternate logo. The bottom two logos, on the maroon background, are based on the original Guelph Storm logo, and I'm planning to use them for a sort fauxback, using the modern colours.

Feedback is welcome, as always! I should have more time than usual to work on designs this week, so I hope to have the uniforms up within the next couple of days, and then I'm going to work on the other two OHL teams with "St*" names: the Mississauga Steelheads and the Sarnia Sting.

The Guelph Storm really don't give you much help over their history. The throwback main (with the triangle) just does not look like anything related to a storm/tornado. I know it's a take off of that old school logo but that one looked a bit more like one with the different textures. It was still a horrible 90's era logo. I like your take on the Basilica better than the team's actual alternate logo. It's clean and simple but still very apparent on what it is intending to be.

The dark grey feels somewhat forced. I feel like it would jibe better if there was some orange striping in the collar and cuff. I'd also think tri-color numbers would look sharp (Aqua jersey - white/gray/orange; white jersey - aqua/gray/orange; grey jersey - white/aqua/orange). I'd also want some form of orange in the pants striping. It's hard to tell visually which of the two colours doesn't belong but it feels like one of either gray or orange doesn't belong.

Any thoughts on replacing the grey with navy?

  11. I could be alone on an island on this but I kind of like that silver Patriots jersey. There's enough contrast in the silver and the navy/red that they balance out nicely. Either way, it all looks good. Far from a Pats fan but I'd be happy to see them lose in those jerseys. At least they'd go out looking good.

    I have two minor nitpicks:

    1) I'd space the two digits in the "11" further apart.

    2) I'd love to see two other players represented so that we see more of the font.

Other than that, I LOVE THE PATRIOTS' LOOK!

Since you have eliminated white on the other jerseys, any thoughts on a silver jersey instead of a white one? I'm not sure if it would look good but I am curious how it might fit.

  13. I actually don't mind the gradient as it's subtle enough to add a unique element without completely destroying it (see Jacksonville's monstrosity). The only thing that is holding this back for me is the reddish colour. I understand the homage but would prefer an orange a bit closer to what they have now. Otherwise these are remarkable. Any thoughts on orange pants?

Make the white jersey cream and that's a winner. Well-designed, nothing ground-breaking, but certainly a very solid look. Good job!

The green jersey is a major upgrade over the current ones. However, I'm in agreement with the comment above. Do a cream inversion of the green set and it would be a tremendous look. The green jersey doesn't have any white in it so it throws things off a bit. I'd also go with red outline on the numbers on the cream version.

I've got to spend some more time thinking about incorporating an 'H' into the bulldog, as @Karnage84 suggested, but here's what I have for Hamilton uniforms for now. The Bulldogs use a jersey template very similar to, if not exactly the same as, the Pittsburgh Penguins'. I think that look has one too many sleeve stripes, so I simplified, and of course changed black to brown. The alternate is based on the Bulldogs current alternate, which is in turn based on the NHL Tigers jersey, although I didn't stick quite as close to the same design.

    Igalo4g.pngyLHAdbv.png

Since no one commented about which team I should work on next, I've picked the Guelph Storm. Until then, let me know what you think of these!

The brown and gold is such a unique colour scheme. I'm getting some serious Wyoming Cowboys vibes from this, which isn't a bad thing. Surprisingly, they actually have a hockey team (who knew!?). I'd like to see outlines on the numbers for the home and away jerseys. Keep the alternate the same except I would add another stripe or two on the socks to match the arms a bit better. Lean into the throwback/stripe theme like the Pittsburgh Steelers and their bumblebee uni's.

This is the first hockey themed thread that I've really paid much attention to or had interest in. That says a lot about the quality of the concept. Keep it up.

@bcon_731 I like royal a lot more for the Bills. They've worn some variation of royal for almost their entire history. A darker blue would make them very similar to New England, which is too close for my liking with them playing in the same division. I like the red jerseys, but I'm sticking with four total combs and I like the white helmet home and road more than the red jersey. White/red/white/red would be the fifth combo.

@Karnage84 Yellow as the primary color has worked really well in Nashville, so I think it can work in pro sports. If there's a city out there that is looking for something new over something traditional, then LA is the place to do it. Plus, with another blue and yellow team playing in the same stadium, I thought it was a good way to differentiate. I do think they'd go white at home a little more often than usual, and I think that's ok. I'm imagining 4 games of yellow, 2 of blue, and 2 of white at home. With a light primary jersey, they would also wear yellow on the road at least once per season and likely more than that. They could conceivably wear yellow on the road for every division game and have enough clash to stand out.

Since we're talking about LA, I think I'll post the Chargers next barring any objections.

You could be right. It does look good and Nashville is a very good example.

Also agreed on the Bills in royal.
