Actually, if it were me running the team, I'd try to upgrade the running game so Allen doesn't feel like he has to play hero ball all the time.

I couldn’t agree more. I think that’s an underrated issue that has kept this Bills team from reaching thier potential (which I still believe to be winning a Super Bowl in the near future). Fielding an RB corps of (pretty much exclusively) pass catchers means Allen has to take matters into his own hands in the power run game. Singletary especially just isn’t built for those kind of carries. Just because Allen is built like a fullback doesn’t mean he ought to be played like a QB/RB, and the Bills have been slow to figure this out.

I truly think if the Bills had a back that could take that running load off of Allen, they’d get unlocked.

  2. The Jaguars and thier fans ought to feel really proud. To go from the hell that was the Urban Meyer micro-era to the 2nd round of the playoffs in only one season? That’s massive. I think they’ll be a very good team for the foreseeable future, and I’d be thrilled with the turnaround and trajectory if I were a Jags fan. Doug Pedersen and Co. has them headed in the right direction.

Do they ever have a nationally-televised game that's on the road?

I feel like either this season or last, they had a nationally broadcast game against the Raiders in Las Vegas. If memory serves, I believe that shootout they had with the Rams a few seasons ago was at the LA Coliseum and was a MNF game. Otherwise, though, it really does feel like they’re at home for national broadcasts way more often than not! They’re always at home in the playoffs too, it seems.

  4. I can kind of see where the Spurs were coming from wearing thier City editions last night - the all-star game the uniforms pay homage to was played in the Alamodome, and the first finals run was in fiesta colors at the Alamodome as well. The Gervin throwbacks were never worn as primary uniforms in the Alamodome, either. So all in all, I do think there was more thought put into this than is being given credit for.

Now that all being said, I do think the best option would’ve been wearing thier regular primary uniforms and playing on a court designed after the ‘99 Alamodome Fiesta court instead, so it looked more like what they played in and on when at the Alamodome. But even though they didn’t go that route, I don’t think what they did was totally off-base either. I can at least see the thought process behind it, regardless of whether or not it was the best option.

  5. I love the idea! The “CLASSIC” taking cues from Pike’s Market is really good, and the red works very well with the color scheme. The only thing I’d like to point out is that I don’t think there’s enough contrast between the navy blue and the blue of the ferry; the details of the ferry get lost a little bit to me. Maybe bump the tint on the ferry blue up a little bit, and I think that should do the trick.

Great work! I think the inspiration and the composition you have is really, really good.

  6. Atlético Marion’s crest is absolutely beautiful. The tulip shape is genius, and it absolutely looks like a Latin/South American club crest. If I didn’t know any better, I’d totally believe it was a crest from those regions.

That one’s probably my favorite entry yet. Well done on them, and the whole series so far too! I always dig hyper-regional league series, and yours has been very fun to follow.

Well, there’s the Metropolitans uniform opportunity. No wonder Seattle didn’t go that route for reverse retro this year.

The particular matchup seems a little forced honestly, I’d have rather seen Vancouver against Seattle for this game. That being said, it does make me really curious to see what the Knights do. They’ve honestly done really well with thier two RR fauxbacks, so I’m intrigued how they may take on something more old-time hockey inspired (assuming they go the usual WC route and don’t do something more modern).

Like I feared, the game is a little muddy when both teams share a color scheme of black, golden yellow, and greyish cream.

Individually the Bruins look good, but I don’t like the yellow lids and numbers on a cream base for the Pens at all. Just not a nice harmony of colors.

This is exactly why I really wanted and hoped Pittsburgh would have dipped back into double-blue. This game could really use some color contrast. And also, I think black/gold vs powder/navy would have been stunning outdoors.

Boston looks amazing on thier own though, so the matchup is at least half great.

  9. Kind of strange that one ASG uniform is clearly inspired by the redrock city uniform and has a definite tie to the Jazz, and the other is just general blue to black gradient (and a shade of blue the Jazz have never worn, too). If that one had to be a gradient too, then purple to black would’ve made more sense, or even powder blue to navy blue. That particular uniform just looks really mailed in when compared to the redrock one.

  10. I honestly don’t mind the green on that LAFC kit at all; I think the problem is in the pattern. It’s a bit too dark and is contributing more to the dingy look of the kit than the color is, in my opinion. It ought to be a bit more tonal and more of a subtle texture.

  11. Something I learned for the first time today - the first hat trick and first clean sheet in World Cup history both belong to the same national team: the United States.

Both of course happened in the 1930 tournament. Bert Patenaude scored the hat trick against Paraguay in their 2nd group stage game, and Jimmy Douglas won the clean sheet against Belgium in the first (he’d get a second consecutive clean sheet in the Paraguay game, also).

I think the patches would be a bit too tall as well. The final patch probably won't be unveiled until they're a year out, but this one is  a good starting place.

Yeah, I think we’ll get a good idea of what they do for patches when the Women’s Cup rolls around. I agree that, as constituted now, that shape would make for too tall a patch. I’m hoping they make some modifications for the patch version that work a little better.

  13. Bumping only because I came across this on Google Images, and wasn’t sure if this had been posted here or addressed here yet.

I’m not 100% sold it’s real quite yet, as this could just be a concept floating around, but the design does bear a lot of resemblance to the new template FIFA is rolling out for the 2023 Women’s World Cup:

If it IS just a concept, then it’s a pretty well executed one with regards to the similarities to the new template.

  14. I watched the game on Telemundo instead of Fox this time. Cantor’s call on the winning penalty almost had my eyes welling up. I have no Argentine ties that I know of (I’m Hispanic, but not Argentine), but even I felt something with that call. Is it possible to vicariously feel a whole nation’s raw emotion? Because that’s what Cantor’s call just about did to me.

And then the game itself, wow! That is without a doubt the greatest soccer game I’ve ever watched. Messi and Mbappe delivered everything you could’ve wanted in an all-time great matchup. And to watch a legend like Messi finally win the cup was something special. I’m never forgetting this one, that’s for sure.

  15. Yeah, Mikan was not only the Lakers’ first superstar, but he was probably the first dominating force the league ever had. He was basketball’s very best player for most of his career.

Players of that caliber and stature should have thier number retired quickly, not 60+ years after thier retirement and some 15 or so years after thier death. I’m honestly shocked the Lakers hadn’t done so until this recently.

I'm so bummed we won't get a Messi vs Ronaldo final, though. Would've been some gooood narrative.

It would’ve been fun for sure, but we could also still get Messi vs. Mbappe, which would carry an exciting “passing of the torch” kind of narrative too. To me, the thought of that feels very similar to if Jordan and young LeBron were somehow able to have met in the Finals.

I love Hakeem as a player and he had great defensive stats...but defense is not what I remember him for, as I would for Wallace or Mutombo.

That’s where I’m thrown off on this too. Hakeem is obviously one of the greatest players ever, and he was indeed a great defender, but defense is never the first thing that comes to mind when I think of him. I almost feel like naming DPOY after him inadvertently puts him in the wrong box.

If you’re going to name a specialty award after a player, then that player ought to be known and remembered clearly for that specialty. Not that they were one-dimensional players by any means, but that they were one of the all-time greatest at thier specialty and role. When it comes to defense? Gary Payton, Ben Wallace, Dikembe Mutumbo, Dennis Rodman…each of those would have made perfect sense to me (Gobert’s in that group too, but he’s still active and awards should be named after retired/retiring players). Hakeem, as great as a defender as he was, doesn’t make the same amount of sense to me.

  18. RIP,  Mike Leach.

Paul Finebaum said this morning that he was “truly one of the most irreplaceable figures in college football.” I know this kind of statement gets tossed around a lot, but I think it truly applies in this case: we’ll likely never see another Mike Leach again, considering he was equal parts innovator, mad scientist, competitor, and comedian. College Football just got a lot dimmer today. He will be missed.

I think the perfect video to honor him would have to be his Pac-12 “mascot battle” commentary. It perfectly summed up his persona - quirky, hilarious, yet brilliant.

  19. First off, you’re a freakin’ pro. 30 minutes or not, you always churn out quality work. Death, taxes, and raysox!

The only feedback I have is the logo might be a little too wide, and looks a little stretched out on the uniform. I think the width could be brought in a little bit and would help the logo look a little more substantial on the uniform. Other than that, I love the idea and love the color distribution. It’s absolutely better than the Doctor Who logo and a vast improvement. Well done, man!
