Players in the "wrong" uniforms

That's gotta be a rare shot. An AL pitcher batting pre-Interleague Play? I wonder if this was an Exhibition game, or just some crazy late-game scenario where the DH got pinch-hit for or was unavailable or one of those deals. It was taken at Dodger stadium, so it may have been a Angels-Dodgers two game series before the season started, which was common before interleague. -

It doesn't have to be this way though. Bettman could finally give in and let them move, and still spin it as a success. He could play the "I fought as hard as I could to uphold our policy of considering relocation as only a last resort" card (making the owners happy) while also appearing as a hero in the hockey hotbed of Quebec City. He could easily turn any defeat represented by the Coyotes moving into a victory. You think he is that smart? -

Gary Bettman stakes his entire reputation on the survival of hockey in Phoenix so I think we will see another year of this desert fun. -

Say what you want about this team, they may not be that good, but these Mets are real likeable. A few weeks ago they went in a Cowboy motiff to Houston. -

So what you are saying a game cant be fun if its 2-1 and the goalie is having a great game. You want wider nets back flips and scoring galore. You want nothing but home runs and slam dunks. You sir, Admiral and viewers like you is what makes ESPN and Sportscenter suck these days. -

I want neither. When you have a league engineering the fortunes of a team to determine where it will do business, that looks terrible. The way the Montreal Expos were gutted to facilitate their relocation as was galling as the way the Coyotes' brand of lowest-common-denominator hockey suddenly became good enough to overtake a previously finesse-oriented league. Anyone who's rooting for the Coyotes to keep stacking defenders in the slot and clogging the neutral zone waiting for turnovers because it's a "good story" is a "bad fan." It's really a fundamentally unwatchable brand of hockey they have going, but I suppose that's the way you win when you're being made to win without talent: just bring everyone else down to your level. Unless, of course, it's commonplace for elite teams to get doubled up in shots on goal on a regular basis. So you like the NBA model where you got 3 or 4 good teams that can win and the Washington Generals and a baked up schemed up final with the officals helping to get the biggest stars in the biggest games. -

The Goldwater institute is a factor here and I dont think a subsidy is an issue or will be accpted. -

Yeah, I agree with the Goldwater insitute as long as the team did not have an owner and the city was losing money that was not going to work. However, they have an owner and he must work something out with the city and if from there it is succesful than good for them, but if not than the owner a private owner is free to do what he wants and if he wants to move them to Qubec City, Regina or Yellow Knife he should be allowed. -

McCarthy, this league owned line of yours is utter crap. Was it bad for baseball that the Rangers were league owned half a season and went to the World Series? Or was it better to have the leagued owned Montreal Expos have their hands tied so tightly behind their back it has taken nearly a decade after moving and getting stable ownership to finally become a good team. Would you rather have a league owned team allowed to compete like the Coyotes or broken down like the New Orleans Hornets? There is nothing the league did unethical to help the Coyotes. The Gretzky ownership was horrible and they made them bad on the ice, but GM Dave Maloney has made smart economical moves and put a good team on the ice. Last year they lost their goalie Ilya Bryzgalov and had to replace him with a throw away that was basically unwanted in Tampa. I gaurun-damn-tee you the Lightning regret it every hour on the hour as they are on the golf course. Mike Smith has been red hot since they end of the season and that is the reason the Coyotes are on this run. At no time did the league direct a big named player to Phoenix. And you know me I am very critical of Gary Betman but the Coyotes run is well deserved and if it saves the franchise and gets fans in Arizona interested than so be it. See you soon the Quebec City Islanders. As for Columbus moving that would be bad for the NHL, the league needs a team in Ohio. Maybe one day they will get one. . Seriously the fans of the Blue Jackets deserve better, they have had horrendous management from day one. -

Only in his mind will that arena host hockey. I think you're underestimating just how awful Nassau Coliseum is... Lowest capacity in the league an questionable-at-best sightlines is an improvement of truly astronomical proportions... I went to a game at Nassau in March to call the place a dump would be unfair to dumps around the world. The sightlines are not great the place is caveronous, there is like three bathrooms in the entire building, and the only saving grace is they have 20 gates because the concourse is othewise narrow and cluttered, so atleast its not like the Meadowlands where the one concourse has just four eit and gets jammed up. The seats are like those you find in a high school auditorium there is a gap between the seats and ice, and the arena itself is almost like the LA Coliseum with a roof no decks just a hill of seats that get furthur and furthur from the ice. -

We have a small fan base, but we have a passionate fan base. The Devils fan club is rated best in the league and that Prudential Center is at least 85-90% filled every night. I was there for Game 3 and Game 6 against the Panthers and the place was packed. -

The Rock is built like that... Open concourse with a direct view of the ice from anywhere... I only saw the open viewing area from the end zones. I remember the sidelines being enclosed like most other arenas. Is the open viewing just in the balconies? Tsongas Center in Lowell, Mass was originally built like that (except for the concourse behind the press & luxury boxes) until they blocked off one end with a giant "club" room. Well the Rock has the Fire and Ice Lounges which are open on the sides but only available to certain ticket holders.
