I imagine he kept a few of last years, and other guys probably did too. I don’t think that’s too uncommon for guys who know they’ll be back, and may have caught wind of the changes and not liked it.

Really? Seems odd to me that Harper would be storing his own uniforms. There's a whole staff of clubhouse employees in charge of that. I wouldn't think players ever have to even think about storing their uniforms, at least not in this era. Maybe decades ago but not these day. And in a new season you'd figure the entire stock of uniforms is from this year.

So basically the home whites won't ever be worn for a weekend series game? And does this mean the blue jerseys won't be worn on the road or at night at all? That would be disappointing. They would really pop under. the lights. They did wear black on the road last Sunday. I hate when teams limit their uniform usage like this.

You're right obviously unless they deviate from their schedule but the Marlins have been very consistent with their schedule for several seasons now.

So if the Phillies wear the new City Connects on Fridays, that means the only time you will see home pinstripes for a weekend home series is on Sundays. In return you get whatever the garbage they're releasing + the new yellow Saturday alternates...

    What yellow Saturday alternates?

Sunday home games or all Sunday games? I really hope it's not reserved for just one day out of the week.

Marlins blue jerseys are for home day games (except for Opening day) so every Sunday but also any weekday day games.

Home Friday games are the black alternate. Home Saturdays are the City Connect.

Gray is obviously road with black as the road alternate. They tend to use gray for road night games and black for road day games but they don't always stick to the road jersey schedule for various reasons.

They're very consistent with their home uniform schedule.

  5. Did you all see the article by Mark Feinsand on MLB.com like two days ago with Nike explaining the long process of creating the new uniforms and how much work went into them and how much time and research it took and how much they consulted with players and highlighting all the positives of the new designs, etc etc?

It was informative but the timing absolutely made it feel like a defensive tactic with A LOT of jabs with things like saying that the players and the union were involved in the process and nobody complained until now and a lot of stuff like that.

It was very much like a retaliation, like when a scandal breaks out and someone or an organization has to release a statement pleading their case.

  6. Love the brightness, perfect for spring training, but the Reds Yankees and Angels didn't actually read the memo of what these caps would be for?

Loving that purple for the Rockies! Man I want like a dozen of these lol.

Is this the greatest spring training cap reveal in history?

. It was made that much worse by placing it right next to the (really nice) bright blue color in the wordmarks & stripes, giving a "3D-glasses" effect to it all, whether they intended to do that or not

I do think the 3d effect was the intention there especially when you see it on the black on black jersey.

  8. One more Marlins thought that could be very possible and would very much not be cool. We don't know that this nice blue jersey is for game use. There's a chance that this only replaces the previous blue jersey and thus could just be a new BP/ST jersey.

I'm only guessing but that feels like it could definitely be possible.

Also possible that the old blue is still kept for ST and that maybe the road gray was dropped?

Just saying we still don't know what these are for.

We saw 3 jerseys today so the question is, which is the 4th jersey, the road gray or the old blue one... or does the BP jersey not count towards the 4 and maybe it's still around too? Gosh I despise that 4+1 jersey rule.

I know I'm always a total wet blanket about the current Marlins' identity, but the changes made to the black jersey are lateral at best. They basically "upgraded" an illegible jersey by making it totally bland. It's literally a black and white jersey (with the tiniest amount of accenting), almost akin to something that the White Sox would wear.

Now I'm beginning to wonder: why does a black jersey even need to exist at all? They very comically touted their "colores" when they unveiled this misfire of a set back in 2018 and one of their four jerseys has practically no trace of their "Miami blue" and "caliente red."

If there is some new rule about limiting the number of jersey combinations, just get rid of the black jersey entirelyIt's never going to work. Just stick with the white, the grey, the blue, and a teal throwback Friday as your four. It sure seems like they aren't doing throwbacks this year, despite how wildly popular they were in 2023.

    This f'n team, man.

So you're gonna hate this but, I have a friend who is a season ticket holder and he's the kind of guy with no shame in asking what he needs to ask, he's also a huge fan of the original Marlins look like you are, well today at Fan Fest he asked about the teal throwbacks that were worn last year and he was told they would not be returning and of course he asked why... this could be BS but this is the answer he got: that the throwback Fridays didn't really make a difference in ticket or merchandise sales so when having to cut a jersey due to Nike's rules on limiting how many jerseys are available, the throwback jersey was chosen to be cut.

  10. Just saw the Marlins unveiling, nothing crazy but yea the black jersey wordmark is filled in white, the blue jersey now has the black Marlins wordmark. Nothing on caps so I assume they're the same and nothing said on what use the uniforms are designated for.

I'm glad they are updating the uniform font to stick out, would be wonderful to see, but are they gonna update the hats to match? If they don't, they are gonna stick out like a sore thumb

Players today wore the same caps for their media day but that just means the home cap and jersey combo isn't changing. It's possible there's alternate caps but I doubt it myself. The caps never bothered me like the jerseys. I think the caps are visible enough and there's other teams with cap logos that are the same color as the crown and I don't think they look bad.

The black jersey was a bigger issue because you literally couldn't read them on TV or from any distance.

    Again, we'll know tomorrow evening.

Marlins change look super promising and a big step in the right direction. I’d probably prefer a blue script on the black jersey, though.

Yea I would have liked a  blue script better too, I would have even left the wordmark black but add a white outline because it would still keep with the motif they were aiming for, but either way it looks like we'll be getting improvements so this is nice.

  13. Looks like the Marlins will be updating the legibility on their dark uniforms (probably just filling in the wordmark white) and seem to be bringing out a Miami blue jersey with a Marlins word mark. Much needed, details will be revealed tomorrow at Fan Fest.

Upon further investigation, Arizona's may technically be a 2-color sleeve trip instead, with the top half black (teal on the black jerseys). The red uniforms have black/teal/black trim on the sleeves and collar.

Woah! This is wild, hadn't noticed that until you said it. Great observation!

  15. I'm confused... the 2024 jerseys will only have piping that goes to the edge of the sleeve but Arizona chose to make 2024 jerseys with piping that is higher above the edge of the sleeve? How did that happen and what will their sleeves look like on the field? Or is the piping to the edge thing only on replicas? Has there been any clarification on this?

People here in Israel barely know the WBC is going on

I've always wondered about this. I'm very into the WBC as a fan but I'm in the US and I'm an MLB fan so I'm right there as a prime target for the marketing of this thing. But they always discuss the impact this tournament has on the countries outside of the US and while I do believe it does impact those who do watch it, I always think there's probably a ton of people in those countries who don't even know this tournament exists.

  17. I don't mind limiting the amount of jerseys and some redundant jerseys should and could be reduced but I don't like forcing teams to lose already existing jerseys. Like the Rays don't have a silly amount of jerseys like Arizona does. Is Nike gonna really have a problem keeping the Rays gray jersey in circulation? Especially when teams like the Yankees Dodgers and Tigers have less jerseys and aren't gonna ever reach the full 4+1, wouldn't that make up for a spot where the Rays and Seattle gray jerseys could still exist?

I'm not saying it's ok to have a wild amount of jerseys I'm just saying that forcing teams to remove logical and, I dunno, "normal" jerseys seems so dumb to me.

Instead of making some league wide crackdown, existing jerseys should be grandfathered in and then start removing redundant things like the Mets having two blue alternates and then in future years you limit what new alternates can be added.

They decided to darken the navy because the navy of the jersey didn't match the hat previously:

That makes sense but did they darken the caps too? I just don't want to look at the Twins now and see the caps nearly black as the Tigers and Yankees often do appear.
