  1. The Summer League uniforms already are set on a generic catalogue template, but the color scheme and font make the Jazz look like a Nike-sponsored AAU club team. Their actual set is even worse. After all, black and volt is a Nike specialty.
  2. Probably licensing. Easier to just use a generic helmet model than squabble with Riddell/Schutt/etc.
  3. It just looks like they took the shields and elongated them. Looks fairly cheap to me. Execution could have been much better.
  4. I think this is a pretty good blend of traditional and modern looks, while keeping the stripe visible. As long as they don’t blend black accents with the purple and white jerseys, this should look very good on the field.
  5. When I first saw them, I thought I was looking at a sleeveless college football jersey. Glad to see the Nike trend of oversized numbers/names made it to the NBA. I also can't stand this "purple is back and here to stay"... if they were really serious about it, purple would have been involved to begin with. As has been said before, they realized way too late in the process that fans were going to dislike black/volt. They started the process by saying "what would be cool for us" instead of looking to the fans and the deep uniform history they have. Watch the black/yellow set get dropped in 2 or 3 years. They seem to already be marketing their next redesign. On the other hand, I will say I'm intrigued by the black court. The chrome/metallic detail is cool, but I don't know how practical it will be. If it works out, I would expect that material to see more use, maybe not in the NBA, but certainly for All-Star Games, Final Fours, etc.
  6. Just about what I was going to say. I think black looks fine with the Saints, the helmet looks alright. What does confuse me is 1, the uber-modern style while the team is *mostly fairly traditional/basic with their uniform design, and 2, the fact they paired it with the throwback-inspired Color Rush uniforms. I suppose its better than mismatching shades of gold, but they should have gone with a more traditional design, perhaps even with a simple old gold stripe instead of the fleur-de-lis pattern. On its own though, I've seen much worse. If the Saints changed to more modern uniforms, I wouldn't have a problem with it, as long as they kept a gold helmet around too.
  7. I've always associated the Ortiz speech uniforms with the Patriot Day/Boston Marathon commemoration for the Red Sox. I wish they weren't dropped, design-wise they are fantastic, and it is what I immediately connect to those events. I don't hate the current yellow/blue set though. I think it was a clearer design connection to the event and unique, but obviously the fanbase doesn't (understandably) like it. Also, the new 4th of July holiday caps just leaked, and holy cow maybe we can just start settling for a patch or something each year. These should never see the field. I'm usually ok with whatever they release for holidays, but these aren't it.
  8. I just don't get the design choice of black and volt/yellow here. They've drained a lot of the character out of the look. The uniforms look like little more than stock product with generic fonts. If they were looking for a change, the Arches city look would have been a good place to start, or anything else in their history, but this isn't it. I hope the full unveil proves me to be at least partially wrong, but I'm not hopeful.
  9. To be fair, Anaheim is in Orange County, and Orange County is very much known for surfing. And let's be honest, SoCal is just kind of one big city anyway. This uniform reminds me of the Rockies' in the fact that its very busy with details, but they all make sense and work together. Very classy, I wish that the Angels would use more of this kind of aesthetic. That Angels script is especially nice. Nike has been on top of the City Connect uniforms for the most part this year. Very detail oriented without being nonsensical. If you're going to do something a bit crazier, might as well go the full 100 yards, and they've done that better than last year. I appreciate the change of pace, given baseball's and MLB's reputation with the younger crowd today.
  10. Rockies' City Connect looked good on-field for their debut, but from what I saw on social media, you either love them or hate them. One major gripe I have is the back numbers. The white gets lost way too easily. I would switch to purple since its already used as the outline. The other *small* gripe I have is that green almost seems too dark. It looks like black in certain lightings, especially on tv. Again, very Colorado-y in a good way. Like they took all the likeable stereotypes and made them into a uniform.
  11. Either that or something a bit more distinctive than a re-colored catalogue design. Some of their older designs may have been boring, but at least they were somewhat original.
  12. I can't help but think that some just looks off. I'm glad they re-tweaked the crest, don't get me wrong, I'm happy the blue color is a bit more prominent, and the stripes and fleur-de-lis are back, but I think it's a bit complex. Drop the roundel and use the central shield shape, and I think you have a crest that's better than 90% of the MLS. Also, I couldn't help but think Inter Miami with the basic "shield surrounded by a roundel" shape:
  13. I will echo something that has been said before: these look right at home in a Colorado souvenir t-shirt shop. Very unique, but I think one of the more intentional sets I've seen for city connect. I don't usually impulse buy jerseys, but I had to for this one (of course I'm biased). Unfortunately, this and the purple jerseys seem to be the only thing going for the team, unlike that bust of a Kris Bryant contract. I would also like to see a (much needed) Rockies rebrand in the future with a purple/green color scheme. Brighten the green a bit, and I think it would work.
  14. Honestly, this is a really nice change that's subtle in scale, but big in meaning. Certainly going to go over well with the fans. Also makes the initial Nike cutoff of the 3 stripes look even sillier. I'll also be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of the saloon font but it doesn't look too bad on the chest. Nicely done , Niners. Nicely done.
  15. I know they've had that newer template floating around with Oregon for a bit now, but I'm sure the reason why it hasn't become widespread is due to what the MLB is struggling with right now: supply chain issues. I do think they may have rolled it out by now in an ideal world, but the pandemic (like with other things) may have put a dent in that. Of course, given I'm not a Nike executive, I couldn't say for sure. As for the font change, it's a lateral move for me. I liked Bulldog Bold because it was solid for a Nike font, and it provided a nice modernization to the uniforms. The block font just isn't as distinctive. Kinda surprised with the change, given that the recent national championship win. Watch it reappear 5-10 years down the road as a "throwback" uniform and start this whole cycle over again.
  16. Hummel has been doing some solid work in lower-level soccer, not just in the U.S., but internationally too (one of my favs is this glitched GK shirt for Maryland Bobcats FC). These uniforms are no exception. I might need to get my hands on that navy shirt. Fantastic job on this! The sarape pattern works really well in light blue/pink/black. Icarus is another company I've become a fan of too. So much originality behind their designs.
  17. I could have seen this. The Renegades light blue color would have gone over very well in Houston (luv ya blue and all that). I wouldn't be surprised if Under Armour ends up being the supplier, seeing as The Rock has a personal brand with them. I'm not expecting anything other than recolored catalogue designs though. I am iffy on the new logo. I like the direction, but it's very simple, and I don't know if that really makes it better. I would have loved to see another color too. Red, volt, or blue would have worked well IMO.
  18. 2 years later.... seems like the re-return of the XFL is starting to gear back up for 2023. XFL twitter page has blacked out their profile pic and banner, and tweeted out what seems to be a hint at a new logo coming tomorrow. Very interesting move here. I would venture to say this could also mean something bigger. I doubt a name change, but we will see.
  19. Just about what I was going to say. Adidas/Inter has fumbled the ball so much on it, so for City of Angels to go out and do something solid on their first try is a great example of what Inter has failed to do. This might be my only gripe with the kit. It's a confusing style choice, but outside of that, it's a solid shirt.
  20. Interesting development here. Rapids posted a video on their social media, and it has a very brief look at what appears to be a new Adidas GK template? I've haven't seen this particular design before so I wouldn't be surprised. Has this been seen with any other teams yet?
  21. I have to say, I like the idea of the Timbers rose kits and the color scheme. I am not a fan of how they were executed. The design just looks off somehow, probably the how the rose graphic is displayed. Would have loved to see a more subtle approach here, or a less dense graphic.
  22. I can't be the only one who thinks there is too much of a reliance on embossed designs. I love the idea; it allows for some nice creativity without making something too crazy, but it also makes shirts look plain at a distance, and without the right lighting. With the amount of similar templating and embossed graphics in this year's crop, I feel like it's just going to be a constant sight of plain jerseys running around. It's such a shame because the patterns this year are amazing. Maybe a more sublimated/tonal approach (see Timbers home jersey) would help out a bit. Or, Kansas City's design would be improved if the state lines were light blue pinstripes, IMO
  23. On one hand, the Commanders are part of a multi-million/billion-dollar league that thrives off of merchandising and is contracted with a company that looks for any excuse to throw something new out on the market. On the other is a new league that needs uniforms for teams to play with, and only needs a few signature details to help make each team distinct. The Commanders certainly could learn a lesson or two from the USFL. Along that topic, here's my (preliminary) ranking: 1: Generals 2: Stars 3: Bandits 4: Breakers 5: Stallions 6: Panthers 7: Gamblers 8: Maulers I appreciate the creativity and distinctness they tried to give each of the teams. The league as a whole has some fantastic, not overdesigned, helmets. There's just a lot of red and black, and there's only so much they can do with that. The Blitz, Bulls, Gold, Invaders, Express, Federals, and Gunslingers brands could have helped with that, hopefully we see some of them pop up down the road. One thing I am interested in is how it will interact and compete with the XFL (when it relaunches next year). I'm fairly convinced there's only one spot open for a mainstream alternative football league. Not sure if the single hub city concept will pull them through. Of course, I could be surprised, so I'll sit back and see what happens.
  24. I think there were gold pants in the Birmingham video but they were 1: a very pale shade, and 2: not featured in the photo for some reason.
  25. I think it was just a reference to the pink color more than anything else. It's going to be a rather plain jersey, but I think the pink will make up for it.
