It's not my favorite, it's probably the weakest look among the recent throwback trend, precisely because of the socks. I know the white striped socks are historically accurate, but I find this look to be very unbalanced. The main reason I don't like when the socks and pants are the same color is because it looks like the player's just wearing one long pair of leggings, even if there's stripes.

I thought that Matthew Judon massively improved the look by wearing red socks:

The balance of color is greatly improved with the red socks: White helmet and pants, red jersey and socks.

Funny you bring up red socks because the original Pat Patriot look in the 60's had red socks with blue stripes. They wore it several times in 2009 as part of the AFL 50th Anniversary.

my only hope is that the clear-roof stuff really catches on, and that teams decide to pay for it.  Seeing the Bears in a soulless dome would make me cry.  It already hurts that the Raiders play in a dark-ass dome.  I thought theirs had the clear panels, but it doesn't seem like it.

    As for Jerry Glanville...

Allegiant Stadium most likely needed a roof that wasn't clear because of it being in Las Vegas. The desert heat would have cooked the players and the crowd. It's funny how Sofi Stadium has a translucent roof that isn't even connected to the building, so there's no air conditioning and they have to worry about the LA heat. That's what Stan Kroenke gets for being a dork.

Also, the natural light gets in Allegiant just fine in my opinion.

Also the complaints about the Superdome being dark is funny because I loved how dark and grungy the Oakland Coliseum use to look for night games.

This board will love the NBA now

Lakers' switch from black uniforms mandated by NBA

    Quote

The Lakers are slated to wear their gold "icon" jerseys, according to their uniform schedule on the team website, which lists the colorway planned for every game for L.A. through the end of the regular season. The Pelicans will be in their white "association" uniforms.

The NBA is preventing the Lakers from wearing their black uniforms because of concerns over the visual contrast between the jerseys and the design of the specialized in-season court the semifinals will be played on at T-Mobile Arena, a source with knowledge of the subject told ESPN.

All of this effort for the In Season Tournament only for them to realize late in the game that the idea was stupid. Incredible job by Adam Silver. It's almost like regular uniform matchups and courts would have been this whole time!

Wild how the NBA  put more effort into awards and trophies for a bogus tournament then they do the real one

They introduced brand new Playoff and end of season awards just last year and they are all very good. The stuff that mattered more came first before the tournament.

  5. In some pictures it looks like the Raiders use to have a hint of blue in their silver back in Los Angeles but it was likely a consequence of the metallic look they were going for.

However here is a real game used helmet that Tim Brown used from possibly the late 90's or early 2000's due to the Raiders logo not having the helmet shine. You tell me what color this is.

Wolves and Hornets in their throwbacks give us a rare good looking modern NBA uni matchup.

It's interesting to see this uniform matchup because it never happened in the past. Both teams switched to and from these uniforms within a year.

I remember Suns play few outdoor games in preseason.

Yeah, I remember they played a couple games at the end of the 2000's in Indian Wells, CA at a tennis venue which essentially looked like a regular arena with no roof. Was only in preseason though and not the regular season.

CBS also used a red background for the Texans, who were wearing their all red alts, rather than the normal blue.

I noticed that CBS has been sort of experimenting with the scoreboard graphics, it seems like they switch it up when there is a potential clash of colors or something. I've seen CBS use both black and silver for the Raiders off the top of my head.

Teams also need more sock variations, they used to do special socks for the city jerseys but after the 2020 season they went basic on them.spacer.png

And before this the NBA had a short lived contract with Stance where every NBA team had sock designs for home/away/alternate. I loved it.

I think it's hard to defend that jersey when (a) the jersey's gold is slightly off from the helmet's gold, although that may just be differences in material, and (b) it was worn with black stripeless leggings.

It only works BECAUSE of the shiny fabric and black pants as far I'm concerned. If Nike made it now, it would either be monochrome tan with either tan pants or white pants and it would look bad.

Watching MNF and seeing how ESPN uses the full helmet for some graphics, I think it would be really cool if a network used the helmet as the scorebug and not just the logo. Using logos and color is so played out.

ESPN does with some graphic packages, usually in studio stuff and CBS did it back in the 80's when they would go in and out of commercials.

I remember ESPN use to use  helmets for it's graphics all the time for it's coverage.  However they also use to give every team a facemask back in the 80s/early 90s.

NFL 2K5 had helmets for it team select screen utilizing the ESPN graphics. I always loved that when cycling through the throwbacks.

White facemasks would be great. But what they really need to do is shed the final remaining vestige of the previous era (if they haven't already). They wore this uniform last year and I have no idea if they're supposed to this year:

    spacer.png

It was apparently replaced by the throwback since it's being worn 3 times this season. I get the feeling the Brown color rush wasn't liked by the team because ever since introducing it in 2020 it's been worn a total of 3 times and 2021 didn't even have it. Not wearing a uniform the year after you introduce it is pretty much a sign they didn't really like it.

    This team infuriates me.

I honestly have to give the Cardinals credit. They debuted a new uniform and are sticking with it quite literally. It may not be what we want but the consistency in keeping the same combos is kinda nice? I'm sure they are doing what the Falcons did in Year 1 of their new set and just getting the "default look" into everyones brains then they finally do combos in Year 2.

  15. The undershirts sticking out make no sense from a performance standpoint. You're just more liable to be grabbed and more liable for a holding penalty. You're basically manipulating the game, it's like doctoring a baseball or something.
