I actually like the approach of the white wordmark instead of the orange. Makes the logo and wordmark stand out on its own. I trust it will look way better than the Falcons wordmark in SB LI during the game because this is black and that was red.

Still missing conference logos or just a more creative design, but the improved SB LVI logo on the 25s makes this, alongside SB LIV, perhaps the best field since SB XLVII, which is one of my favs ever.

Yep. We may disagree on the Bengals wordmark in white vs Orange, but I agree with pretty much everything you said.

On a complete side note, when you mentioned SB XLVII. Not sure how many realized this, early in the week, the Ravens had a black endzone but it switched to purple by the time it got to game day.   No idea why, but it was a great decision.spacer.png

  2. Now with all this info, I’ve got mixed emotions on this field, and that’s good because I thought i would hate it.

I figured they would use the “LA” logo, which was disappointing.  Again, that endzone is exactly like the one they’ve used at times during the season.  I also wish “Bengals”would be written in orange.

In the end, I thought I would hate it with the “B” and the “LA” but the colors are so different from what we've seen lately,  I kinda dig it.  Don’t get me wrong, it could be really amazing with helmets, conference logo’s etc…. But the field should pop on game day.

And kudos to whoever came up with BBengals. I still laugh at that and think of it whenever I see the endzone.

My favorite time of year, as we slowly get images from the field.

Looks like this will be the widest Super Bowl logo on the field since Super Bowl XLIV. First one of the templated logo era to stretch past the 20 and 30 yard lines. Interested in how the gradient shows when they're done painting. Lot's of detail in this year's logo, so it could be a challenge for the field crew, and will certainly be a challenge for me copying their copy of the logo.

Your designs are impeccable…we have faith you’ll nail like you do every year!

Looks like they ARE scrubbing all the marks off the field and will paint it in the format they have for the last 6 years.

    Imagine that...

I kinda think we actually are on the same page, in a weird way.

The  “LA” logo endzone with just “Rams” after it has been used this season, and pics in the last 2 pages show that.  That’s the logo I consider “Super Bowl ready”.

I was hoping for a possible switch, to maybe something like Pitt posted with the 2008-2012 designs, but that’s not gonna happen. I think we all hoped for a change, but we get disappointed again.

maybe the new SB logo design  at the 25’s will help spur change…. But it’s the NFL so I’m not getting my hopes up.

They've always had two weeks and in some cases a week to get the field ready, I understand that there's always going to be a time crunch but that shouldn't be the excuse for the weak looking fields we've been getting.

For some reason the NFL has an issue with using the conference logos, not just on the fields the hats both teams wore on Sunday just said Conference Champions with no conference name or logo. I'm assuming there's some ultra corporate speak reason for phasing them out.

Totally agree. Most times they’ve had a month to do entire fields and as you said, they’ve been so disappointing. Two weeks isn’t a ton of time so that is why I assume they are only scrubbing the endzones and midfield. None of the yard lines will be redone.  At least the conference logos provided a pop of color when teams were similar in their team colors. It is weird they seem to phase them out, even on the gear.

Looks like they scrubbed the Rams endzone, but left some blue. That means they might go with the ram head instead of the LA logo.

Fingers crossed. Unfortunately they scrubbed a decent endzone already. I really hope, like many, it’s the rams head and bengals head instead of the “LA” and “B”

That's not how these things are done.

Please, then, tell me how these things are done.

Look, We all love these fields. That’s why we are here. But we have learned things from the past that may effect designs. They kept the field numbers the Vikings used in SB 52. It looked like they were scrubbing one endzone last night but didn’t touch the other.  At SB 53 I spent 15 minutes talking to Ed Mangan trying to get info solely for this thread and he told me stuff that we never realized. He talked about how much the actual teams have input on the designs of the endzones.  He also said the NFL has the final call on the design and how they can only do so much in a short period of time.  If they had a full month to work on the entire field, I think it could be a different story. Now, they only have two weeks. I think they will save time as much as they can.

I long for the glory days of the double helmets. i love looking at all the different designs that Pitt and others do. It’s so great. I just think they are up against the clock with the field this year, and may just settle with one of the Rams already made endzones because it could save time and two of them already look like they could be used in the Super Bowl.

As far as what I think we will end up seeing, I do think it will be this field, despite the many missed opportunities the NFL will have here.

I think it’s easier for them to use one of the endzones the Rams currently use. I know Tampa had a new endzone last year in their own stadium, but they also didn’t play the NFC title game in Tampa.  It’s a quick turnaround for the field crew.  I think they will use the LA logo, not the Rams head, and have the Rams written in white.  The only way, I think, we see the Rams logo, is if they use the endzone from yesterday’s field, which was similar to your mid 2000’s design.  I hope I’m totally wrong, but I think they take the easy way out.

Bbengals vs Rams ft. the 'appendage' that cannot be unseen

If I had to guess, Rams will likely be using their LA horn logo

As I posted above, the Rams all ready have a “Super Bowl ready” logo in use that uses the LA logo under the current SB format. I think we see that one if that’s what they stick with.

Otherwise, I think the Rams head would only be used in the endzone with the NFL logo, which is also in use.

  10. I started thinking more and more about what the league will do with the field in Super Bowl LIV, because I think they have to use the 100 Anniversary logo, the Super Bowl logo, AND the actual NFL logo.  If the NFL logo stays at the 50, and the Super Bowl logo at the 25, it seems like the 100th Anniversary logo is destined for the endzones.

The Seahawks have put the 100th anniversary logo in their endzone and as we found out, the league is leaning on what team's do on their home field.  I'm wondering if the 100th anniversary logo gets put into the endzone for SBLIV.  Spacing would need to be fixed, but I don't know if they care.  Just something to chew for the regular season.

  11. The funny thing was when I brought up to Ed about the two helmet endzone design, he seemed to remember it like yesterday. He then said, the Rams endzone has a helmet, which I countered with, that’s because they don’t have a logo. He understood.

We talked about the quick turnaround years in Miami and Arizona, along with Minnesota as I mentioned earlier.

He was a really good guy, and my guess....I just think he and his crew do what the NFL asks them to do.

  12. Well, I got some answers today and unfortunately our hopes of spiced up endzones are all in the hands of the NFL. Asked Ed Mangan a bunch of questions, some on mic and some off mic. Honestly, the interview isnt worth posting because all of the design factors are in the hands of the NFL. He told me that the NFL creative department develops the look of the endzones and runs it by the teams for their approval. The teams may make minor adjustments, but they basically are all on the same page.

As for the helmets and conference logos, again, an NFL creative decision.

He gave me insight on how this field was developed and compared it to last year. This year, he said they scrubbed the entire field after the Peach Bowl and started new.  This makes sense from last year, where they really couldn’t scrub the field considering the Vikings were still playing in mid-January. So, that’s why the Vikings yard-line numbers stayed on the field for Super Bowl LIII.

As for a special field next year, he said it’s in the hands of the NFL. Which would also give us the answer on a potential throwback field.

I will add more when i get a chance. Feel free to ask any questions that I may have forgotten to address.
