I'd have preferred black pants for the red & blue uniforms

Oh, come on. They have to be intentionally screwing with us at this point. Why wouldn't they simply take the sleeve striping and put it on the socks? The inconsistency is killing me!

  2. I love seeing college hockey! This group of Ivy League concepts are fun, and I like the idea of the conference working together to do a reverse retro / city connect type of project. The Ivy collar is pretty clever. A great way for the conference to claim its schools without drawing too much attention. I think Princeton, Penn, Harvard and Cornell are perfect as is (besides the vintage white). The others are heading in the right direction but could use a tweak.

Brown - This is a difficult one because the problem is the bare chest but not much can be done to get around that considering it was kind of the whole gimmick. The only thing I could think of is a stitch pattern outlining "BROWN" so there'd be something that draws the eye. Other than that, the only thing I could think of is including a hem stripe.

Columbia - A quicker fix, here. I encourage adding a hem stripe but, honestly, I think it would look great if you simply changed the logo from vintage white to navy.

Dartmouth - This jersey doesn't really need change but I think it could be elevated by adding the double green stripe to the bottom of the sleeves. If you're feeling bold, the double stripe could also be included as a pattern on the collar.

Yale - I like the direction but I think a modern touch could be added just to make it more visually engaging. Doing something similar to what the Maple Leafs did with their Arenas jerseys would probably work.

Great job! Would love to see the uniform references that you mentioned.

That's the conclusion you went with when you saw that? Huh?? I'd say about 90% of the time a team teases new equipment colors, they're meant to be worn with an alternate jersey.

As a Sharks fan who is used to variations of black jerseys with simplified striping for the last 20 years, absolutely. Not that I don't like them, it just isn't a surprise anymore. I am much more excited about the possibility of the team addressing the one thing I dislike about their current uniforms.

Yes, alt equipment is primarily meant to be paired with the alt jersey but I see things trending the other way in the near future. The Sharks are also the type of team to expect experimentation from. Since the beginning of November the Sharks have worn teal helmets with their away uniform 14 times. The only game they haven't worn that combo was when they wore their home uniform in LA so the Kings could wear their alts. It seems they prefer to be in the other 10% if they feel it looks better.

  4. I don't know if it is unpopular or not, but I feel like the Panthers have never had a bad look. The closest they came to bad would be with the unnecessary piping on their jerseys between 2007 and 2011, but even that was a result of Reebok having fun finding ways to mess up every team in the league. I much prefer their original jerseys and logo, but their current set is a somewhat close second. The only problem with their current look is the fat sock stripes that stick out like a sore thumb. Seriously, the primary color of this sock is far closer to white than it should be. I get that it is the same thickness as the stripe on the jersey, but I feel like the sock stripe's thickness should be based on the stripe to arm ratio of the jersey, if that makes sense.

It's not the ownership patting their backs and it's definitely not "splitting hairs and isolating specific events", it's almost the complete opposite because it's a pretty big moment in the 30 year history of the Ducks. They're a pretty unique case as a franchise in sports and it's acknowledging both distinct parts of their history.

Maybe I am missing something from their history that makes it that unique. I thought there have been many cases of teams being bought and their name being changed. Even if I were to agree, I still think it is an awful way to acknowledge their history. Instead of combining key visuals from their jerseys over time in a way that conveys their message to the viewer, they decided to write it real big on the jersey. If the jersey was done well they wouldn't have to explain the purpose of the jersey on the arm stripes.

I will defend the jersey on this point though because it is wrong.

One sleeve says "Mighty Ducks est 1993" and the other sleeve says "Anaheim Ducks est 2006".

Your defense makes sense, but it seems like a weird decision to make for a professional organization. The jersey is almost completely inspired by pre-2006 jerseys and anything included from post-2006 seems forced, including the "est 2006". They are supposed to be celebrating 30 years as a franchise in the NHL, not splitting hairs and isolating specific events. Did current ownership really need the pat on their own back that bad?

  7. I like the overall concept, a lot. The hidden bridge in the "B" is done beautifully. That said, this brand doesn't feel right. Being from San Jose, seeing a bridge and "Bay" together makes me immediately think of the Bay Bridge. The fact that they used the Golden Gate in the logo and international orange as an accent has me struggling a little bit. I think a simple adjustment to the name would fix all the problems I have with it.

  8. I still get overwhelming Rockies vibes from Colorado. I'll go further and say your concept is a better option for the Rockies than their current, but that doesn't seem to be your goal for this project. You mentioned a "purple mountain majesty" theme, maybe there's room for more than one purple? I think leaning harder into that inspiration with a lavender (similar to K-State's basketball alt) instead of green would truly separate your look from the Rockies all while sticking to your original approach. A google image search of "purple mountain majesty" would support my case.

  9. Utah - I wasn’t sure of the colors at first, but they have grown on me. I spent some time in SLC and Park City for hockey so I’ve always thought of high mountains and cold climate. Had to remind myself that Utah itself is extremely diverse. I love the script. It screams Utah!

Nevada - I think the “N” and script work perfectly. The white panel on the hat and gray jersey feel off to me, but that’s my own personal distaste for gray and white sharing space (I say this fully knowing that white and gray are staples of uniform design in baseball haha). I have a similar discomfort when I see white and yellow/gold interact. It does look like a uniform that Nevada - Reno could throw straight into their rotation. I mean it as a good thing, but I do recall you saying that you were trying to stay away from existing college colors.

Georgia - This one is really fun! I like the script a lot. I wish peach was more prominent in the uniform, though. Nothing too much, just an extra splash.

This is the most fun I’ve had around the Concept forum in awhile! Keep it up

  10. As a Californian, I applaud you for not listening to other California natives! Brown and red looks good and gives the state a unique identity (which is hard to do in a league so large). The logo is great, but the bear gets lost on the hat. I’ve also never been a fan of using one logo as a prominent visual point on multiple pieces of the uniform, but I can’t blame you for only doing one logo for every team because 50 states worth of logos is a lot to begin with. Maybe removing the bear and just using the block “C” on the hat is an option? It would fix the bear on brown problem that I mentioned while creating more logo variety throughout the uniform without over complicating things. Then again, my baseball aesthetics knowledge is lacking compared to other sports. That’s all nitpicking, though. I think you did an amazing job on all three!

  11. I love this series idea! @Htown1141 and I just worked together to redo the whole identity for the high school program I coach / manage in Arizona and the challenges it presented (cookie cutter templates / limited colors / budget) made it an extremely fun and rewarding experience. So much fun that I have considered doing something like this for my own state once I have some free time. Enough about me, I am here for your work!

Before the deep dive, I just wanted to mention that the numbers on the back feel a tad large. It might be the correct sizing when comparing it to an actual jersey, but they draw my eye away from your actual design. Could just be a preference thing.

    Bonners Ferry Badgers

There are some changes that I think really benefit this school's look. I love the decision to promote their light blue and only use Bucky's head, but I am not sure if I like it more than the classic "BADGERS" with the number below it on the chest. The letters feel more traditional, and that  seems to be the goal for this school. For the home I'd suggest swapping the navy and light blue on the arm. The light blue would pop so nicely off the navy. Also, I was curious about your decision to outline the mascot name but not the number on your alt. The inconsistency just feels off. Lastly, kudos on the equipment color treatment. When your team is lesser known than some other schools / club teams it helps to use color that catches the eye of casual spectators that happen to be at the rink. Small, simple things like a light blue helmet demands attention, making people curious enough to ask, "who is that?", essentially providing passive, low-cost marketing to a sport that tends to come behind others for funding. This is why my own program has switched from black to all green equipment. A small thing that helps a program stand out / be unique when only a handful of jersey template / color options are presented. Good job!

    CDA Charter Panthers

It is always an excellent idea to draw inspiration from other uniforms at the school when you aren't sure where to start. It not only provides a consistent look that is recognizable to the student body, but it also provides a sense of success and pride without taking too much credit. You also made a solid choice with the logo change. I've looked at all of these schools, and all of CDA's panther logos deserved to hit the cutting room floor. The way you used the soccer team's striping looks great without being a direct copy and your red jersey with the Panthers script was a great way to provide a purposeful third option.

    CDA Vikings

I really like the “C” horn. Very smart way to make a generic logo unique to the school. I really like the striping and colors, but I think the identity could use a touch of black to create some contrast.

Welp, I have to get back to work. I do really like Kellogg's modern jersey + colors and (besides the hem inconsistency on the alt) Lake City is my favorite overall identity. Great job!

  12. I know it is the "Sports Logo News" section, but I felt this was the most appropriate place for anyone interest. Since January I've had a gut feeling that UNLV will announce their jump to D1 NCAA this year. Originally it was based on loose context like:

    - UNLV's ACHA program skyrocketing to unbelievable heights in a very tight timeframe (quality and funding).

    - The US Hockey Hall of Fame Game is being hosted in Vegas this year, featuring North Dakota and ASU (a desert school that made the jump from club to NCAA in a similar way).

    - ASU's D1 ACHA team will travel up with their big brother to play a few games against UNLV the same weekend.

Yes, I know the game always includes North Dakota and I know that it commonly takes place in Las Vegas, but it just feels like an event that UNLV could use as a spotlight. I also just learned that UNLV will be playing the defending NCAA national champions in a couple days. Could mean absolutely nothing, but Lindenwood stopped in Colorado to play an exhibition game against DU around the same time last year, and Lindenwood is now D1 NCAA.

Just throwing it out there to see if anyone knows anything or has similar suspicions.

  13. I see both sides of the Sharks equipment discussion and, as a fan, it is hard not to walk the line. We know black equipment looks stellar and would do a better job of representing the Sharks historically, but I just don't think that is where they are at the moment. The all teal feels very modern Sharks, and I don't know how to explain that. It sets a tone that I think the organization has been trying to establish the last few years that wants to be ok with leaving behind success to find new success. San Jose has always been a very nostalgic fanbase that doesn't like to step off the known path (take any half popular player long overdue for a trade as an example. Or the wild contracts they dish out on occasion). When I see the new uniforms I get a feeling of change for the better, which is a great feeling to have when you know you get to watch your team get smacked in the mouth the entire season. Either way, they went from my bottom 10 to at least top half of the league with this overhaul. I am also happy that our new look really showcases how bland/drab the other identities in California are.

  14. I think the best name to represent the Redwoods would be Giants... but I am sure you see the obvious problem with that. Only other thing I could think of would be Colossals, but that isn't the most attractive option. Not to echo CDCLT, but a visual identity that goes one way and a name that goes the other isn't very cohesive. This could result in a full identity that conveys the organization doesn't quite know who they are or what they want to be.

  15.      As a Sharks fan, I was spooked by the idea of all teal, at first. The lighting in the graphic that Murji posted looks closest to our organization's first teal, which I would considered the worst teal option the Sharks have when it comes to a monochromatic approach. I cried myself to sleep that night (like any grown man does when an aesthetic standard isn't met) then woke up to a much better teal, provided by Kuhre's mockup. Not wanting to get my hopes up, I decided to submerge myself back into the deep Pacific for the first time in years to see if I could gain some clarity.

After seeing bits and pieces of the look from a trusted source, I am feeling much more optimistic. The biggest relief was learning that the teal will be the one used in Kuhre's mockup. Even if they end up not using different pants for home/away, I’d still consider the monochrome a huge upgrade. Everything actually looked pretty modern, and I can't wait to see the final product against teams in our division. I definitely have games against Calgary (this would be an unbelievably enjoyable color vs color matchup if they let it happen) and Vegas circled on my calendar. While it doesn’t provide much that isn’t already known, my source told me that they have not seen new, black pants in any capacity. They also mentioned that the organization has been prioritizing September 16 as a very important date. This could 100% be due to the Barracuda’s new rink hosting fans for the first time but it wouldn’t be ridiculous for them to go all in, attempting to generate sizable excitement for a team who isn’t supposed to do well this season. (This was mentioned in the article that has been posted, but I wanted to voice that the theory is backed by whispers around the facility.)

Nothing groundbreaking, but I thought it might help anyone who shared these concerns.

Other than it highlighting the family tradition of desperately holding on to orange under any circumstance, I don't mind these for the Cuda. If they had the logo and numbers match the shoulder pattern of teal with a black outline, I'd maybe even call them good.

spacer.png@TheHealthiestScratch as requested here's the flyers in red and blue. i'd like to keep this jersey design though. i think it's the best design they've ever had.

now that i look at it, the red and blue jerseys could represent old-timey pilots and the green and gray ones could represent newer military aircraft.

I actually said I think a striping change with the same colors would work better than changing to different colors that other teams wear in Phila. I also mixed up my outdoor games, I meant the 2019 Stadium Series. My bad

heres the second team, the flyers

i just used the eagles current colors because theyre unique and represent the city pretty well.

there is no white in either of the jerseys and the black is replaced by pewter gray.

yes i know Giroux isnt on the team but i grew up watching him and he was always my favorite so i put him on the jerseys here.

man it was such a sad season for the flyers. the long rebuild ahead doesnt look fun.

    spacer.png

While unique, they are getting pretty darn close to a primary set we've already seen in the NHL.

    spacer.png

I know it isn't intentional because I see your thought process, and it does look pretty good, in a vacuum. I think keeping the colors and messing with the design is your best option because the other color scheme related to the city is red/white/blue. Maybe do something similar to the 2019 Winter Classic jersey? I think that would be different enough.

    San Jose Sharks

Up next is the San Jose Sharks. I have had 2 main issues with what the Sharks do currently with their uniforms. First, they seem to be okay with multiple different shark style logos. They introduced this new shark logo, but still used the old one. It doesn't make sense, it's practically the same logo, but the sharks look different. So I went with the new modern shark. It just makes sense. The other issue I had was their lack of orange in the uniforms. I love a splash of colour. Vegas, Seattle both do it. It just adds a little pop to the uniforms. So I also added more orange back into the uniforms.

I knew I wanted to use a retro style striping for the home and road. When I pulled up the pattern for the 91-98 uniforms, I quickly discovered it is nearly identical to what I designed for the Blues already. So we are going for their 98-07 look, which is more unique anyway. With the new modern logo, I think it fits quite well.

    spacer.png

The alternate and City uniforms bring some more colour into the designs! I have always loved the shark fin logo, it seems all my favourite Sharks logos either aren't used or relegated to the shoulder. No more! The water pattern is utilized on the sleeves and socks as well. I know the Sharks have their stealth uniform, a lot of black with not much colour. It's just boring though. We need some fun, colourful uniforms! I am not shying away here.

The City uniform seems like a copy of the stadium series uniforms. It is. But the striping also comes from their flag, as do the colours. Really not much to say about the city uniform. There's too many teams in California, too many beach themes haha. So I think this simple flag design will do just fine. If it wasn't obvious before, I definitely try harder for city uniforms for some teams over others.

    spacer.png

The Sharks have been awkwardly forcing orange for far too long. No matter how they try using it, I've always seen the orange as obnoxious and unnecessary. That being said, thank you for fixing  the asymmetric disaster that they've held on to since the hem stripe was dropped. I think it's clever that you used their 2000s jerseys (unpopular opinion: my favorite primaries they've had) as a way to balance the colors . I actually really like the teal a lot, but it would still be better if silver stepped in for orange.

The alt is fun, and I think it would sell very well. The sharks have shown that they don't like to play with any color besides teal on their third option so the orange feels weird, but I think it would sell.

I don't think the city connect would land very well, if not flop altogether. It's not obvious unless you're from the area, but the connect has two problems. 1. Half of San Jose doesn't know (or really care) about their city flag, and I wouldn't be surprised if the inspiration had to be explained to some diehard fans. 2. Claiming a city would be such a shift from their brand. The Sharks have grown to be a Bay Area team that tries to appeal to all three big cities. Even if San Jose locals like the jersey,  it wouldn't justify  isolating a large portion of their market or cutting their potential revenue.

I think you did great! The Sharks are a difficult one to get right, but this Sharks fan would much prefer your idea.
