I get your trying to go for a classic look but it's really simple. I'd use Johnny Canuck as the primary and the primary you currently have as a shoulder patch. Also the stripping doesn't match on the jerseys. I'd invert the blue for white on the home.

A suggestion, I think a green alternate or a throwback would be cool.

I think the simplicity of the logo works with the simplicity of a majority of logos in the rest of the league, but I will probably use Johnny Canuck as the shoulder patch. The striping is intentionally inconsistent (it's a nod to their very first home jersey) however I will change that because after I posted it, I looked at it some more and came up with a different pattern. Throwback is on the way. Thanks for your input.

  2. Vancouver Canucks New & Old

I really like the Canucks colours, but their logo does not suit them in my opinion. I made some small changes to their current alternate logo and put it on some home and away jerseys

Tell me what you think, C&C appreciated :)

Good start, I'd add more of the capital building or maybe a couple players at the base. Possibly drop the flag poles but leave the flags.

Good idea I was trying to think of some stuff that could fill the empty space there.

Like the idea and execution, but why would you put a Quebec flag? (Ottawa is in Ontario) It would definitely fit with the current slew of outdoor games!

I added the Quebec flag because it's rumored that Ottawa will play Montreal so I figured I'd just put it in there.

  5. I've been hearing a lot of rumors about the Ottawa Senators holding an outdoor game to commemorate their 25th anniversary as well as Canada's 150th anniversary. I decided to make a concept logo that resembled the Winter and Heritage Classic logos.

Hope you enjoy, C&C appreciated :)

Needs more maroon. I think for a team that refuses to dress like the North Stars this just won't work. Pretty good recoloring though. Sleeve striping needs to be higher up as well.

I really tried to incorporate some of the maroon but in the end it just didn't fit with the way I wanted the jersey, I did change the striping subtly though and I think it draws the eyes toward the yellow more.

I was thinking more baseball. Basketball requires logos with basketballs in them. and I don't want two logos to distract anyone from the "NJO" I want it to be the main logo, you know?

Yeah plus it gives you the opportunity to make the New Jersey text in the same style as the logo and put it on a jersey like most baseball teams have.

Thank you guys! I was trying to figure out what sport this style of logo would go great with...any ideas?

I think it would work with basketball or baseball.

Wonderful progression.  Really enjoyed reading through, especially since I'm from the Island and know the Victoria Cougars name well.  The red/yellow scheme does remind me a little more of a good roller hockey logo because of the non-traditional colours.  However, that's not a knock on it - I think you could make some cool jerseys with it.

Just wondering, what program do you use for logo creation?

I use Inkscape 0.91 for logos, also the jerseys will be up soon!

From their facebook page, the Copenhagen Wolves ceased operations back in June, so they're likely not policing their IP.  Even if they were, considering it's Canada vs Denmark, it would be difficult to take any action.  Canada isn't going to extradite some junior team marketing intern to Denmark to be prosecuted for copyright infringement - assuming that their laws regarding such offense are even the same.

Yeah you're right. I was just curious as to what other people's thoughts were.

The word mark is definitely damn close if not 100% the same.  I think people don't treat thisas copyright infringement when it clearly is.

Yeah even the shading is the same on the text. Maybe it went overlooked because it's a junior hockey team.

  12. Today I came across a really odd discovery. I play a lot of PC games like the very popular CS:GO but I'm also a big sports fan. I was looking into the VIJHL in Vancouver because I was curious. Then I came across a familiar word mark that I've seen in the CS:GO community. The Westshore Wolves (hockey team) share an almost identical word mark with the Copenhagen Wolves eSports organization. The Copenhagen logo has been in use since early 2012 and the Westshore logo has been in use since late 2012.

This looks like pretty blatant copying to me but I'm hoping to get in contact with the designer who made the Copenhagen Wolves logo to see if he had any idea this was happening.

  13. Decided to go with the slightly squinting eyes. Almost everyone I asked preferred them and I did too. Now I'm finishing up the logo but I need to know which of these versions of the black outline is better. Left to right it goes thin, thick and very thick. Which one looks best? My personal favourite is the one in the middle.

Just stumbled across this and I want to repeat what others on here have been saying, the progress here is remarkable, and although the original logo showed potential, this last one is great. Though I have two suggestions, first the eyes. Ever since they were brought up on the thread they haven't looked perfect, the whites still don't look right and the pupil you had looks very unaggressive, unlike the rest of the logo. I think they'd look better all black or with a silver of white to show they're there but not as noticeably. I also think that you should darken the yellow, as it looks really bright on my monitor at least.

Thanks for your input. The yellow is bright because its based on the Victoria Cougars VIJHL team which uses a pretty bright yellow, but I'll likely be changing the colour scheme soon anyway. As for the eyes I don't want the detail to be too small otherwise it will make the eyes look weird from a distance. I've narrowed the eyes down to two versions as of right now I'll be posting them soon.

Watching this logo progress has been awesome, you've really done a good job listening to critiques and tweaking it into an impressive logo. However, just to add a couple suggestions, the forehead area looks very empty right now and could likely benefit from some shading like you've done on the nose. Also, I'm not sure if it would improve the logo, but the way the bottom jaw is right now actually curves upward whereas in the reference photo posted earlier you can see it would be the opposite. Those are just a couple small things that may or may not improve an already great logo!

You raised some really good points, I added creases above the eyes to address the emptiness in the forehead. Then I rounded the jaw. Small changes but really nice outcome. Thanks for your suggestions, they were really helpful.

Good concept, but it seems like there's too much black around the mouth.

    Changes Made:

-replaced some of the black around the mouth

-added more asymmetrical shading in the mouth area

-flipped eye shape so it conveys more aggressiveness

-with the eye shape changed the pupils were less necessary so they were removed
