  1. Since you haven't mention it yet, don't forget about the Charlotte Hornets just 90 miles away originally from 1988 to 2002. More people are going to familiarize with a new NBA team than a D3 school. I've also found that Shenandoah U. Hornets joined the same conference as Greensboro's in 1992 (then known as the Dixie Conference). Lynchburg College of Virginia is another nearby former conference member with the same nickname. So with all these teams as the Hornets at the same time, I can see why Greensboro changed their name if it wasn't due some negative reason.
  2. Mention it and you shall receive: Source: Greensboro College - Celebration Timeline, Page 5
  3. Not D1 but in D3's USA South Athletic Conference, Greensboro College Pride of Greensboro, NC rebranded last week. I'm a fan of how the placement of the lions, Leo & Leona, were changed to be presented as equals. Lure Design of Orlando, FL assisted with the design. There is a new Lions over GC logo too. If you're not familiar with Greensboro College, it's a liberal arts college with 1000-1300 students sandwiched between UNC Greensboro & North Carolina A&T. Article Old New
  4. I wanted to expand some more on this after reading the article. The CSU Cutlass logo is still the primary, the new logo serves as a secondary visual & additional face to the program. Perhaps after some time the new logo will become the primary. The wordmark in the cutlass logo above is just a web font, below is the correct one. As for "the white outline randomly dip below the wordmark", it's the rest of the buccaneer logo as seen on the gray shirt below. But I agree it looks out of place and should be done differently or eliminated. Interestingly the navy shirt below doesn't show that.
  5. Over the weekend Shaw University, a HBCU of Division II's CIAA, rebranded & was designed by, surprise, Phoenix Design Works. Article NEW OLD
  6. It's not often a conference shows up on this but the West Coast Conference just unveiled their new brand. Led by Legend Labs, the conference identifies as the WCC more than the previous brand displayed. The 2 C's act as arrows pointing left, or West. I'm unsure of the significance of the W split into 3 sections. So far, Teal is the only color displayed, more natural to the west coast region than the patriotic red, white, and blue. I imagine on white background the logo will be in Teal. Article Previous Primary Personally I'm a huge fan of the WCC with the coastline built into the W, shown below, and wish to see that today. Could say the new brand is built for the future though with the straight edges.
  7. Opened up Pitt's athletics site and saw this: Website Can assume it's the date for the color change to Royal and Gold. LMU's website now has the new primary at the top. At the bottom of the page is a SVG of the new Lion head & LMU combination mark.
  8. Believe it or not, in the past year and half they've created these: It's not like what we seen from Torch or on here & Behance but they're still serviceable. Each are improved updates from their previous brands. Where would be your alma mater?
  9. Phoenix Design Works, there's no doubt because they use the same font design for each brand. Once you recognize it you can spot the schools designed by them pretty well.
  10. Southern Illinois (Carbondale) is coming out with a new look on the 28th: https://twitter.com/SIUSalukis/status/1100047771845816320/video/1
  11. Cal U (California University of Pennsylvania, Division II) Vulcans revealed their new athletics logos yesterday. Source --> While they're not the only Vulcans in the NCAA, I think it's safe for them to brand under the name instead of Cal U which I'm sure many have confused with the state of California.
  12. Just noticed it even though it's been around since August: San José State University has been using a newer Spartan helmet logo this school year. Doesn't appear on uniforms yet but is on promotional material & social media. From university website, "As of September 2018, SJSU has “one Spartan, one spirit.” The university has merged the university spirit mark and the Athletics Spartan helmet, creating a stronger, more unified presence in our community." Altogether it's nearly identical to the old spirit without the shoulder element and now just 2 colors instead of 4. 13. Man, I didn't even notice that. It's been a while since I've seen new hidden letters.
  14. Illinois Wesleyan University Titans, member of NCAA D3's CCIW, unveiled their new brand yesterday. Featured are a new titan head logo, new stylized IW, and new wordmarks. The previous "Tommy Titan" logo, used by IWU athletics since the late 1960s, will continue to be featured at Illinois Wesleyan as a vintage or retro mark. The new primary mark – a redesigned Titan head – was created in-house and the additional marks were developed by Rickabaugh Graphics. SOURCE OLD NEW Personally, I'm very happy to see the updated look. I noticed the inconsistency of their brand while watching this school over past couple years. They've had logos that mirrored Michigan State's retro Gruff logo, a stylized W very similar to Wisconsin on their football helmets, and an I-Wesleyan mark identical to Iowa State's primary.
  15. Division III's Loras College Duhawks of Dubuque, Iowa announced their new brand today. The Dewey logo has been retired in favored of bringing consistency to the school's new brand. (Source) This was designed by Wes Teska, his Behance work here. In addition to below there is a head-only logo & wordmark. For those wondering what's a Duhawk, it's a combination of Dubuque Hawks where the school is located. OLD NEW
  16. Oh, it's cool. I understood what was going on. I figured I had to say something. I haven't spent much time posting before this thread so I'm learning the finer details of it along the way.
  17. Yes, that was there previously. The source of my link was from the athletics site, I guess they updated it which affected it here. I'll be sure to use a more permanent pic next time.
  18. Concordia University Chicago Cougars of Division III unveiled their new brand during Homecoming for the first time since 1983. New is the cougar logo and font. I take it uniforms will be updated next summer and will be slightly brighter, including for football. Source OLD NEW Personally, not a fan at all. The old logo wasn't fantastic but it was unique enough that I always knew who it belonged to. Now it's seems too cartoonish and bland. Wordmark is decent.
  19. Their Challengers logo has been red, white, & blue for some time but over the past year or 2 their uniforms have been teal & black which I believe are their institutional colors. It has been weird seeing the different colors so it makes sense they're actually making changes to their identity.
  20. Back to Division I, I looked up UNLV and I noticed the 'new' Rebel logo is gone for good. Ever since it went public in late June 2017 people have hated on it so much the school has been quiet about the brand for the past year. In the previous style guide there was only 1 version of the older arch UNLV and now the current one is just the arch UNLV has multiple variations of it. Note that the older rebel logo with the white mustache is long gone but I still see it a lot today. GONE Primary Again
  21. I'm intrigued by this. I looked up Port Neches-Groves athletics and found their website. On that is an Indian logo that I know is a copy of University of the Cumberlands of NAIA when they were formerly Cumberland College Indians. Google search shows Port-Neches-Grove using the Rend Lake version on the hudl.com account for the girls' varsity soccer team. Hudl.com is no way a credible source of logos but I see how it's not original. That's the only source I see of Port Neches-Groves using that, their twitter accounts also show the older logos. I understand not everything is posted online. Interestingly on Rend Lake College's athletics website there's two links on the right side dedicated to their new logos including a well-done usage manual so you'd think they were original owners of the design. I'm curious how old this new 'warrior/indian' logo really is and who designed it.
  22. Oops, twice in a row I've had this problem. Original source was from a shared Google Drive of their logos on their athletics website. That and not every image I have is online so I'll keep a permanent Imgur album for this. Hopefully it's good to go. Thanks.
  23. Over an hour's drive southeast of St. Louis in Illinois is the home of the Rend Lake College Warriors. They play 7 sports in the NJCAA, football not one of them. In July they modernized their brand. I believe the primary logo has 8 colors but there are options with reduced colors & the secondary logo has less detail and is single-color. The RL logo isn't brand new but I don't think it's more than a year old either. Very well done update for a school on the junior college level. OLD NEW
  24. Back in June Virginia Wesleyan University Marlins updated their logos & marks. Now more horizontal, gone are the teeth but colors are mostly the same. Font has been straightened. The former college is a member of the Division III's Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) and is the only school in the U.S. with the Marlins nickname. Source OLD NEW
