Yes it's possible. Ownership of any team can change their name and branding. However I doubt a waiver would be granted to speed up the process. A new owner would have to wait for the Commanders name to reach the 5 year mark before changing it.

Safest bet. They WILL NOT go back to the old name. In fact, I'd be willing to bet the league would officially ban teams from having names of ethnic groups before Washington could rebrand again. Likely including wording that would allow the Chiefs and Vikings to keep their names as is.

Pretty sure that isn't true. If I'm not mistaken, changes in ownership are an exception to the five year rule. If ownership changes, you can get new Uniforms as soon as you want. For instance, the mid 2010s Jaguars changed from their Reebok monstrosities to their Nike monstrosities in less than five years.

(Edited to have a more apples to apples comparison)

Looks like the T has been thickened and the C definitely is squashed. I rather like the more solid T, and how the crossbar follows the curve of the C.  I think this will help with the legibility issues some people have brought up before from long range. Cautiously optimistic for the rest of the set.

Looking at them side-by-side, it looks like the print version of it, whenever we see it, will probably look very similar to the cap version. Ever since 1961, the Print/Jersey version of the TC logo has always been thicker than the cap version. With how things have progressed in the past sixty-two years, it seems like there won't be much changed. For comparison, here's the 2D print version of the outgoing logo, which has remained the same since 1961.spacer.png

    EDIT: Weird, they didn't embed.

EDIT 2: Got them to embed. Also, learned that the new cap won't have the weird color blocks on the side. The tweet is only referring to the TC. So the TC IS changing after all. Not major changes but it's changing. IDK how to feel. Like it's nice, but it's not the Twins to me. The TC is the only thing that's remained the same without any changes since Opening Day 1961.

    • EDIT 2.5: Yeah, I get it's similar to how the TC used to look on the caps in the 1960's, but in print media, graphics, advertising, etc..., the TC has been the same since 1961. I'm a bit worried, as a Twins die-hard, how it will look in 2D vs on a Cap.

  4. Heard some "discouraging" news about the Twins new uniforms from the "Mackey and Judd" show which airs on KSTP-AM 1500 in the Twin Cities.

"JUDD ZULGAD: 'I'm hearing scary things ... I'm not sure how we're gonna feel about this.'

PHIL MACKEY: 'What is is-what kind of changes are we talking about here?'

ZULGAD: 'There is rumors of a star involved, there's a lot of scuttlebutt that scares me.'

     MACKEY: 'A star?'

PATRICK REUSSE: 'About letting a star go?'

ZULGAD: 'No, about a star in the uniform, incorporated, like the North Stars star.'"

id rather a uniform have too much than too little. Nike recently has gone too little and too plain. Is it a bit pretentious ? Sure but it works.

The Navy blue makes the lime green really pop. The gray works much better than white would have and gives it the iconic dark north west rainy feel. The feather marking in the numbers is also a nice subtle touch which harkens to the northwest native tribal artwork. The only negatives I will say is the blue jersey doesn't work with the gray or green pants. And TBH I really would not mind then replacing the white unis with the grays since it is light enough to count as the away unis. I just think it is well thought out and goes over the top without making it look messy

Really? That's your only negative? I know opinions exist and all but this is their best Uniform combination! The monochrome Navy just doesn't work imo, and many would agree with that. ANY Football Uniform where the Jersey, Pants, and Socks are all the same color just never works. Having the same color helmet makes it even worse. I mean, the Gray pants just look so good! When they do all Navy, it's just a blob. This goes for every football team. Jersey/Pants/Socks should never match.

There was this NBA on ABC theme for a while there, which I totally forgot about:

What was the lifespan of that one? 2003-2006?

Crazy that the Finals have been on ABC for 20 years but it still doesn't feel like a big property for them. 20 years and counting, yet Disney never quite figured out what to do with them the way NBC and Turner did.

I believe that theme was used by ESPN alongside the other theme before 2006. I don't know if ABC used it, maybe in 02/03 when they used the old old theme, but since 03/04, it's been the same theme for ABC until it just got replaced a few weeks ago.

Still miffed that ESPN abandoned this theme...... It was so good...

I've always liked that theme. It gives off strong 2000s vibes, which I love, while also giving off major Basketball vibes in general.

That theme actually has an interesting history. It started out as the NBA on ABC theme for the 2002/03 season. ABC stopped using that theme after one season, switching to a new theme which would be used starting in the 2003/04 season and lasting until a few months ago, the 2021/22 season. ABC's old theme became the NBA on ESPN theme for the 2003/04-2005/06 seasons. When ABC Sports was killed in fall 2006, instead of ABC adopting the ESPN NBA theme, ESPN adopted the NBA on ABC's theme, again, also lasting until the 2021/22 season, now being replaced by their new crap song.

If they were going to change the wordmark, they should have gone all the way in on incorporating it into their brand.

If it’s a good enough wordmark to be on the helmet in their eyes, it should be good enough to be in the end zones too.

The Eagles have a similar problem with their wordmarks, except it’s flipped where the new one is in the endzone & the old one remains on the jersey.

The Eagles case is a bit different. They are going to have that changed next season supposedly. Similar to how the Patriots in 2013 introduced their current Wordmark but it didn’t change on the uniforms until 2015. The NFL has that two year heads up thing for Jersey changes.

Anyone notice that the Colts are using their old word mark in the end zones?

They always were. They never changed it in the end zone. The new wordmark is only for marketing and branding stuff, and was never for the field.

The Vikings, Rams, and Eagles helmet designs aren’t really “logos” though (and I’m not sure if any of them carry the helmet graphic itself as a stand-alone piece within their identities). They’re certainly not commonly used on merchandise.

The Vikings horn logo is available as a separate logo to be used. The logo slick has it, and it's used on merchandise occasionally.

Here's a shameless plug of my prediction/hope for how the Twins' redesign will turn out:

I LOVE that concept! It's also pretty much exactly what I described wanting from a Twins redesign. Cream pinstripes, Navy alt, it's wonderful. I could give or take on piping on the home jersey. Wasn't a huge fan of it for the Padres when they unveiled their uniforms, (but got used to it,) but it's not a bad look.

In my description on the last page, I was having trouble deciding between Powder Blue or the World Series look for a Throwback. I decided on the WS look due to the M cap, which I've always liked, if nobody could tell based on my Forum Avatar.

  12. I've come out of hibernation thanks to the news of the Twins updating their uniforms. I'm excited, yet nervous. What I would like to see, as others have mentioned, is a refresh of the past, akin to the Blue Jays or Padres. I hope to god the Kasota Gold is gone. I didn't like it in 2015, don't like it now.

I believe that they will use the updated cursive wordmark that they've been using on Social Media for the past two years. It really looks good and would be a fine basis for the refresh. Here's some tweets showcasing it.

The Social Media posts since 2020 have primarily used this wordmark, along with brighter shades of Blue and Red as seen in the tweets. Of course, the TC logo is used heavily too, but the 1987-2012 "M" logo  has been used quite heavily as well, being featured in every starting lineup post this year for Away games. This is just speculation, but it could be hinting towards a return of an M logo. Whether it's the same one or a different one remains to be seen. From what I can tell, living in MN and being in Twins circles online, while the TC logo is the most popular and a superior logo (imo,) the M logo is popular amongst hardcore circles. Lots of people wear it, but not anywhere near as much as the TC though.

Here's what I want to see, as a lifelong fan of the team:

    • Primaries
      • Home White (Cream)
        • Social Media "Twins" wordmark, Navy outlined in Red.
        • Pinstripes.
        • Minnie & Paul State patch on the sleeve.
        • Standard Navy TC cap.
      • Away Grey
        • Red/Navy/Red piping on the neckline/sleeve cuffs/pants, similar to the 2010-2022 Away uniform
        • Hypothetical "Minnesota" word mark similar to the Social Media "Twins" wordmark, Navy outlined in Red.
        • Minnie & Paul State patch on the sleeve.
        • Standard Navy TC cap.
    • Alternates
      • Navy Jersey.
        • Red/White/Red piping on the neckline/sleeve cuffs.
        • Minnie & Paul State patch on the sleeve.
        • Social Media "Twins" wordmark, White outlined in Red.
        • Standard Navy TC cap. Optional Red TC cap also available ONLY for Alternate.
      • Throwback

I tried to limit the amount of logos, patches, and jerseys compared to what we currently have. We have five different logos, three different wordmarks, three caps, and SIX different jerseys at the moment. No more inconsistencies from Uniform to Uniform, just a straightforward design. Only two wordmarks, "Twins" and "Minnesota," and two logos, the iconic TC and a updated Minnie & Paul logo with an updated Wordmark. Besides the World Series era throwback, my idea has one sleeve patch for all the uniforms, primarily wearing just one cap, and more consistent piping/wordmark coloring, with all of them following a Red/Other Color/Red pattern.

This HAS to be the year for the Cardinals to make some changes.... right??

We can only hope. I don't have high hopes that they will this year, but again, just hope. May the Reebok era finally be put to rest.

  14. Just getting this started now, since we're already halfway through 2022. As far as I know, we just have the Washington Reskins being the only major one happening this year. There's also the death of the One-Helmet Rule, leading to the return of throwbacks. And the only confirmed one to return so far is the Patriots Pat Patriot throwbacks. The Buccaneers Bucco Bruce Creamsicles, Red Falcons Helmets,  Cowboys 60s Double Star, amongst others, can be assumed to be returning, but haven't been officially announced. I don't think there's anything else, but correct me if I'm wrong, in case another team officially announced a returning Throwback or something.
