  1. I agree that Miami has potential, but they desperately need a competent owner, and one that doesn't just **** all over the fans' goodwill with constant fire sales and just a distinct like of connecting with the fans. And what you said here is the same point I made: owners may have screwed the city over for good - every time the team is burned to the ground, it makes it harder for fans to stick with the team, knowing that after any success, the team will be destroyed, so there's no reason to get attached to any of the players.
  2. For certain, but no matter the reason, attendance woes are still attendance woes. I'm sure if the Marlins were consistently better we wouldn't be having this discussion, but it's still possible that baseball in Miami has been contaminated like Tampa Bay. Incompetent ownership and fire sales aplenty has harmed the goodwill between fans and the team, and even if a better owner took over, that relationship may be permanently damaged. Moving the team to a new fanbase will not only change the suitors for the team (I'm sure people would rather own the Miami franchise than the Charlotte one), but it wipes the slate clean for the team to build trust between it and the fans. The Marlins have done really nothing to reward long-time fans, even with two World Series wins, since right after they win they just burn it to the ground. Even if it's the owners' fault, the goodwill may be gone. It's like a nuclear explosion: one mistake can make the soil infertile for years to come.
  3. Wow, baseball in Florida has looked awful for the past few years. It's not even like we can place it on the teams themselves being bad: the Marlins have two World Series titles (in like 25 years), and the Rays also made it the Fall Classic. The problem is, no one in the region seems to care. The Rays have been decent to pretty good for the past few years, but they're still setting record lows for attendance. That's pathetic. The Trop is obviously in an awful location, but I have to argue that the announcement of this split relocation has permanently killed any chance of this team staying in Tampa Bay forever. Whatever little goodwill the tiny fanbase has for the Rays is now gone. Even less people will show up, even if the partial move doesn't go through. As less people show up, the team will get more desperate for any kind of move, and Montreal may bend over backwards for a new stadium, and the Rays (and the MLB) leave the Tampa Bay area for good. It's a shame for the 10,000 (at most) people in the area that seem to care, but the market just is not right for the Majors.
  4. As ridiculous as this whole thing is, I'm super excited to see how this works out. We could see a successful split team for the first time in like 40-ish years, or (the much more likely scenario), the team crashes and burns, ruins any goodwill Tampa had left regarding the team, maybe Montreal as well, then relocates to either Montreal, Charlotte, or Portland. Wonderful!
  5. Excellent work once again! Mexico City looks fantastic, that's a unique color scheme I haven't seen anywhere else. The one thing I'm not sold on is the zigzag pattern in the ray itself, but everything else is top-notch, as always.
  6. 100% agree, the name isn't great, but the bigger crime is BFBS. It's been a plague on jersey design for far too long.
  7. That's exactly what they are, and while I don't mind "United" or "FC" as long as it's not overdone, Real only makes sense in Spanish (I think) and Sporting is just stupid.
  8. I commented here a while ago, but I'm back for some more hot takes: MLB: The Florida Marlins are overrated. Teal/Gray/Black doesn't work for me. Plus, the teal is literally impossible to read on the gray without a black outline (as demonstrated perfectly on the primary logo). Not a huge fan of either the Marlins or Florida script, and I will never liked vest jerseys. I honestly think this new rebrand is the best the Marlins have ever looked. The biggest thing I would change is making the cap logo the primary, but other than that, it beats the Florida era by a mile. Orioles cartoon bird >>> realistic bird The Angels should go back to using Anaheim, and specifically the 2002-04 logo. It looks real nice. The Devil Rays don't actually look good. They have a good start (and Devil Rays beats "Rays of Light" any day), but the gradient isn't great (maybe if it was just purple to blue/green, no yellow) and dark green + dark blue looks ugly. NHL: Ducks > Mighty Ducks. I think the Ducks look great, and black and orange works wonderfully together. The cartoon throwback logos look awful, no matter what team they're used by. This goes for Pittsburgh, Buffalo, and the Islanders. To add onto the point above, Robo-Penguin > stupid cartoon skate-y bird. The name "Wild" isn't bad, but it's not great. MLS: DC United needs a new logo. Already. They've whiffed so many times. This is the best they've ever looked, but it still needs improving. The Union adding a gradient is stupid and they made their logo significantly worse. The Revolution logo is fine. Real Salt Lake is the dumbest name in sports. Ever. Sporting Kansas City is the second dumbest name in sports. NFL: The Cowboys' use of like four blues is really dumb and needs to stop. Tradition means nothing if that tradition is stupid. The biggest problem with the Bucs' current set the font. If the font gets fixed, they'd look fine. The Saints' all-black combo is really bad. Black over gold looks amazing, and they should dump the all-black forever. If the Panthers drop silver, they will have the best look in the NFL. Every combo not using silver looks beautiful, especially the blue over black look they debuted this year. NBA: The Timberwolves have the best logo in the NBA, with the Hornets at a close second. I really like a bunch of the City and Statement jerseys so far. Specifically the Heat City (and Earned) jerseys, the Utah City jersey, both Chicago City jerseys, the Charlotte Statement jersey (I have one!), and both Sacramento City jerseys. If it weren't for the Thunder, the Mavs would have the worst logo in the NBA. The Brooklyn Nets look great and black/white is a really underrated color scheme.
  9. Man I wish the Saints would go black/gold more often. It looks so much better than the all-black look.
  10. Oh yeah, the amount of jerseys the NBA has is a mess right now. Give me four at most: Home (White), Away (Primary Color), "City" (Alternate, based on the city), and Throwback (For some teams, not all). I think Nike's been kinda running it into the ground right now, but the idea is there. The problem is the abundance of jerseys (I bet teams don't want to repeat colors), so the City ones kinda get the bottom of the barrel. If they were the regular alternates (and didn't change every year), we'd see better, more fitting jerseys. For example - The Hornets get four jerseys: home (white, says "Hornets"), away (teal, says "Charlotte"), city (purple, says "Charlotte" or "Queen City", maybe includes a famous landmark like Bank of America Center or a skyline pattern on the shorts), and a throwback (really away color, just take it from the 90s). Not every team would have a throwback, but every team has at least three jerseys to keep a close brand that is still reflective of where they're from.
  11. I know it's a tradition for soccer at this point, but I hate it when a team tries to emphasize something other than the city that they're from. To me it kinda says "We take you for granted. We're gonna show you more of us, instead of showing where we're from." It's why I honestly really enjoy the City jerseys in the NBA, most (*cough* Hornets *cough*) actually represent where they're from. (Honestly, nobody says "Buzz City". We have a perfectly good nickname, but nope, the Hornets are trying a force on us a nickname that sounds like the city's constantly drunk.) Back to the matter at hand, even if it's different, it's something I'd like to see the sport try. Maybe the MLS could do a special "Hometown Weekend" where each team wears the city name on the front, rather than an ad. I just think that the ads can get in the way of some excellent jersey design, like interrupting the stripes for the Galaxy, or the massive off-color "Bimbo" for the Union. A city work mark could be uniquely incorporated into the design, since there's no branding standards to keep, no logo to accurately portray. Placing the ads to where the NBA puts them (or better yet, removing them altogether) could make some MLS jerseys look even better.
  12. I 100% agree. I think when done properly, they look fine. I think the NBA actually does it the best. For example, the Cavs' Goodyear foot thing looks fine, as long as it's recolored to match the jersey. The Bucks and Kings look kinda bad, since the logos don't match the jerseys. The Knicks, Lakers, Wolves, Jazz, and Magic have all done it right. A small, inconsequential logo recolored to match the team's colors. I think the MLS and WNBA get it all wrong, however. Never, and I mean never, should an ad be the most important thing on a jersey. It should always be the team/city (I prefer the city) taking precedence. Obviously it can look good, but I will never consider MLS jerseys "great" until the city/name is front and center.
  13. I'd disagree, the blues should stay as an alternate (with black pants please). Keeping black around is worth it for the all-black look alone.
  14. ThunderSharks is the only decent name on the list, and while I'd love to see logos for the Space Sloths and Puffy Head Bird Legs, seeing a ThunderShark would be incredible, if done right.
  15. Big 4 NFL My favorite sports team, now and forever: The Carolina Panthers! Being from Charlotte, I became a fan (of sports in general, actually) right around the magical 15-1 season. Cam Newton is my favorite athlete right now, and the team just has so much fun. Not to mention, the branding is on point. (On that note, screw you Atlanta.) NBA The Charlotte Hornets. Hometown team, excellent logos and colors. Kemba Walker is an outstanding athlete and person, and even though the team seems to have the worst luck I've ever seen (George Shinn, LJ and Zo hating each other, Bob Johnson, MJ, 2012 NBA Draft [that thing was rigged. You can't tell me otherwise.]). My hate for New Orleans runs deep (Saints and Hornicans) and I will never stop loving this team. MLB The Baltimore Orioles. My parents are from Baltimore so with Charlotte not having a major league team I'm stuck with the O's for the foreseeable future. The team sucks, and will suck for many years to come but I'll stick with 'em. NHL Since Charlotte doesn't have a team (F*** Raleigh), I passively follow both the Carolina Hurricanes and the Vegas Golden Knights. I love the sport and really want to find a major league team for me but I can't connect to anyone just yet. Honorable Mentions I also follow the Baltimore Ravens (Baltimore connection), the Minnesota Timberwolves (fantastic branding) and have committed to following the reincarnation of the Seattle SuperSonics, whenever that may be. Minor League Baseball Triple-A The Charlotte Knights. Not much to say, they're the team in Charlotte. They have excellent Queen City Knights alts (screw off Cincinnati) and the stadium is always packed, even though the team currently sucks. Double-A Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. No reason, just the name. High A Winston-Salem Dash. My sister went to school in Winston-Salem, so there's a small connection. Low A Asheville Tourists. My grandparents live near there, so I've been to a few games, and it's a lot of fun. Hockey AHL Charlotte Checkers. Local team, games are great, and there's Bojangles at the stadium. That's enough for me.
  16. I love Carolina! One thing though: you forgot the logo sheet! However, so far everything has been fantastic! Carolina is my favorite, and Buffalo is probably my least favorite. I just don't like how the red and gray go together.
  17. The Saints look terrible in all black. I think they should make the black with gold pants their full-time home uniform.
  18. Like this? (Just made this real quick in paint)
  19. Yeah they could, but the biggest problem is definitely the lack of fans outside of diehards and nostalgia.
  20. I commented a while ago, but I just thought of a new one: The Expos should not return. Olympic Stadium is in shambles and I believe the nostalgia would wear off way too quickly and leave the team in the same situation it was in.
  21. I know I shouldn't but that might be my favorite soccer set out there.
  22. Yeah, I think that a teal background and maybe a two-tone crown (white with carolina blue details) would be stellar, and really solidify the blue/crown theme that all the teams and even the city is going for.
  23. Yeah I don't know why they haven't yet. I'm not sure if our council members even know we have a flag. I 100% agree. It's such a great symbol, with the obvious crown for the Queen City, and the subtle "m" for Mecklenburg County.
  24. This is the current flag of Charlotte. It has a hornet's nest for the nickname of the region, and a handshake for cooperation I think? This is either the civic flag or the flag of Mecklenburg County, I don't know. However, it's so much better than what we have now. Personally, I'd like to see this flag with a blue/teal background, as I don't think that green really works with the city.
  25. As a Charlottean, I'm not complaining!
