The "Los Team Name" thing has been stupid for years now, and this is just as stupid.  Using black to represent "colorful" street art is also dumb (cough Marlins black unis cough).......but the hat just takes it to another level of stupidity.

I was going to say the same thing - why wouldn't you make it red - a Dodgers color, and something that would, you know......represent colorful spray paint instead of......black?

Don't hate the name after I took the 14 seconds to Google the local context...but THAT is all they came up with for something as visually interesting as these?!

I agree that these could've been used more in the identity.

I'm not a huge fan of the name, but I guess it was right up there out of the choices.

I like the C. It kind of gives off a shield vibe.

Word marks are cool. Enough of a difference while still paying homage to the original identity.

But WHAT THE HECK is that flying ball logo supposed to be? It looks like a beer league logo honestly.

Also, isn't it kind of weird changing names in the middle of the season? Does this take effect immediately?

Yeah, I don't like the  G flying logo.

I can't believe how much more quickly this all happened in comparison to the Football Team.

All things considered, I think it's OK. There was literally nothing they could do that wasn't going to be jarring to most fans. When I think about my teams, a name change would be jarring to me (even if it was the Wild).  No matter how good the name and identity, calling the Twins anything else would take some serious getting used to. Therefore, I think it makes sense that:

    • The colors and general identity are reminiscent of the current team. That continuity is important.
    • Guardians has a similar cadence to the old name.

As for Spiders, I know a lot of us, myself included, would have liked it. But the general fan base? I legitimately don't know. Remember, at any given time, 80% of the fans there probably haven't heard of Len Barker and half probably haven't heard of Bob Feller (this is not a shot at Clevelanders but an observation about the the lack of attachment to history for the casual fan everywhere). They likely don't know the Spiders (on the other hand, they don't know the Spiders were historically bad). My two cents:

    • Name: OK. Like I said, the cadence works (and someone point out the "ians"). Someone else pointed out that it's a bit "too local" but hey, it gives the rest of us a chance to learn something about Cleveland.
    • Colors: They had no choice, in my opinion. It's not their problem that so many teams have similar colors. They needed to keep the continuity. And it looks fine. Don't worry about it; I'm sure they'll be wearing a "city" jersey 50 times a year (maybe inspired by the Cuyahoga River fire).
    • Wordmarks: OK. I actually think they should have gone for more continuity with a smoother wordmark, particularly the "Guardians" one. But it makes the "Cleveland" mark less boring, I suppose.
    • Cap: Nice.  While I'm sometimes a fan of seeing no white, the "C" hat has been begging for white from day 1. The contrast on their hats messed with my eyes.
    • "G" Logo: The only truly awful part of this. Edit: I just realized that the 3D aspect of the logo implies that on the other side, there's a backwards-facing G. It's worse than I initially thought.

Overall, I give them a B+ and I'm more grateful that they sidestepped potential "expansionesque" landmines than I am disappointed about any missed opportunities.

    I agree with this mostly.

I liked the idea of Spiders, but understand why they went this way - and also they could always do Spiders as their city connect or something.

I don't hate them but also don't love them.  The winged G thing is the worst part of it.  Even though they're not similar, it reminds me of a 90s gatorade logo for some reason.

I guess it's not something I've ever really actively thought about. My first reaction would probably be LA, or maybe San Diego. Never would've even considered Sacramento.

Florida's capital is similar - Tallahassee (more famous because of FSU, though).....it's the capital because it was equidistant between Pensacola and St Augustine back in the early 1800s when there wasn't much of anything further south.

PROS: I love the use of the Golden Gate orange.  I like the Golden Gate design on the sleeves.

INDIFFERENT: The fading fog element and the use of silver/grey.

CONS: The Golden Gate design on the hat doesn't work, same with the G on the front. You could have done the fog treatment to the Giants script and it would have worked.

But, seriously, get rid of that bridge design on the hat and I'd buy it.

This echoes my thoughts exactly.  The G and the bridge on the hat are the worst elements of it all.

Is that supposed to be fog on the G? At least it keeps one of the colors I suppose. Still bad

It won't be seen after being tucked in, but there's literally a fog cloud down on the GIANTS script on the bottom.

Honestly, I don’t hate it. Can’t quite put my finger on why I do, but the orange and white do look clean together.

The colors aren't the problem.  The "G" is.

My very first thought was "how is it a 'city connect' if they use the nickname initial rather than anything city related'?

If anything, it's less of a city connect than their own road uniforms.  I thought one of the points of this was to make something that appeals to true locals - not just go with some cliché.  Whether anyone likes the first batch of uniforms or not, they at least accomplish that.  These?  The Golden Gate bridge and fog are something everyone knows about SF.

Maybe they could have gone with a pride-ish theme?  The tye-dye / deadhead theme that some have posted?  A uniform that makes them look like robots or has a sublimated circuit board for all the tech companies?  Each (even the last one) probably better than a G.

I think it's a no brainer to tie into the Golden Gate and fog - as you point out, that's what everyone knows about it.  I just hate the "G" - I guess I get it.......Giants.....Golden Gate....but why not an SF or even "Frisco" - aren't these supposed to be city connect?  Not bridge connect lol.

Yep, and that’s really what this comes down to. Colorado isn’t to blame for any of this, as it looks like they were going to be used regardless of location. The fact that the MLB had planned to go with these at all - whether in Atlanta or elsewhere - is awful.

Yeah, Colorado got pushed in front of a bus with this ASG as far as design goes.

So what's the over/under on MLB coming out quietly some time either over the weekend or early next week and reversing course based on the near universal derision for these jerseys and the idea of wearing them during the game (I've only seen a handful of responses anywhere online both social media and the press who are onboard with these things or using them during the game) and announces they've "heard the fans" and will be playing with the usual regular unis with an ASG patch during the game?

1% chance of it changing - Manfred has continually shown he doesn't really care what fans think and will do it anyway.

Arizona is in a good spot with this uniform honestly. Like @IceCap said though, there’s some very peculiar choices being made and there’s just too much going on.

    • Black primary “A” shows up twice on the uniform (hat, left sleeve)

    • State Flag on right sleeve

    • New barely visible triangle snake logo on the lower portion of jersey

    • Entirely new font being used for the wordmark across the chest

    • Red number color when the only other red is being used in barely visible new triangle snake logo and state flag logo

    • Number font doesn’t match up properly with wordmark font

    • Sand jersey with normal white pants clash badly

    • Make the hat “A” red -OR- place triangle snake logo on the hat

    • Move triangle snake logo up to left sleeve, removing “A”

    • State flag isn’t really needed, but it gets a pass for being the City Connect jersey

    • Use a standard block number font

    • Recolor the wordmark red

    • Add a single black stripe to each sleeve

    • Use sand color pants

    • Add pinstripes(?)

Agreed on your points - most specifically about that neat triangle snake logo could've been the hat logo - the Marlins did a unique logo for their hat, so it's not like it hasn't been done.

Dude an Alcatraz jersey would be sweet. Pitripes with "The Rock" on the front??

When I was out in SF years ago, I was in a gift shop type store, and they had this (with matching shorts) and I had to get it.  I'm on board with something like that.

I hate this logo, but the farthest left portion of the T lines up with the left side just like the farthest right portion of the R does on the right. It's just because of the diagonal distance that it looks off.

Yeah, I realize that.  But it looks odd regardless.  They should just start over lol.

  9. I overall like what I see with the Kraken name/branding.  It's a weird name, but Seattle seems like a weird place, so it fits.  No matter what name they chose, people will complain if they lose, and love it if they win.

My only complaint about the S logo is that I can't help but see a seahorse rather than thinking of Kraken despite the subtle tentacle:

Hey, Magic makes sense for the entertainment that makes Orlando iconic, they need to repurpose the Thunder name, Heat needs to go, I agree with you there.

What else would they call the Heat, though?  Manatees?  Alligators?  Retirees?  lol

  11. I don't like it.  The S doesn't fit with the other characters.  Or the C - one of the two needs to change.

I also feel it went too simple with the background shapes.  They could've removed the yellow background and done yellow outlines of the shapes behind the SONIC text.

It certainly looks like pink shorts.  These may not look too bad after all.  I still think the shade of pink is a tad too light, but the contrasting shorts will definitely help.

This represents such a missed opportunity on Inter Miami's part. They should have really owned pink in their primary kits. Pink jerseys, black shorts, black socks for evening matches and either a pink/white/white or pink/white/pink ensemble for day games. A white or black jersey could have been the centerpiece of their change kits. This... this just strikes me as "meh".

In pink, Inter Miami's team palette contains what is the most unique color in American major-pro sports. So, they reduce it to accent-striping.

What a complete and utter waste.

I agree with both of you that it's disappointing how they relegated the most unique color to an accent.  The Marlins did the same thing with their blue - easily their most unique color, and a unique shade of blue - yet they just use it as an accent on their otherwise black/white look.

That only leaves the Florida two without their cap logo in the hall, further proof that those teams were mistakes.

So the Rockies - which came into the league the same year as the Marlins - just got their first player in the Hall, so now that's suddenly additional proof that Florida baseball was a mistake?

Both misleading and at the same time brilliant with the reduced concession prizes are that they're also in reduced sizes. So in the past I used to buy my kid one big pretzel for $6 and I'd split it with him, now I can buy him one smaller pretzel for $3 but if I want some I'd have to buy two $3 pretzels so in the end I'm still paying $6.

It's great that we have cheaper price options but the smaller sizes mean we often end up spending the same. It's an illusion and it's brilliant.

Yeah, that's true too.  But that also gives you the option to do a few smaller different items instead of one big one.

    18 hours ago, SilverBullet1929 said:

In this one if you swipe to the 2nd picture the two prospects on the left are wearing what looks like the front of a new Marlins cap, it's the same fish as last years ST/BP cap but there's a different design on the inside of it, almost like if the fish is made of broken glass? But based on that Phillies pic above could this be a Marlins logo inside of the fish shape? Such a weird design if so...

I'm not really seeing what you're seeing.

ST caps feature cap logos containing secondary logos within. For example, the crown logo within the KC on the cap for the Royals. New material as well, as seen above. Supposed to be available for retail in February.

yikes, that sounds like a trainwreck for most logos.

  18. 23 hours ago, Gothamite said:

Of course.  But there are different ways to make that money back.

Just as an example, the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United have realized that they can make more profit on concessions by slashing the price.  People are more than making up for the lower price point by buying more at the concession stand.

It was so successful that they did it again.

So you can increase profits by jacking up the price and making more on a single transaction, or through volume sales at a lower price point.  MLB and Nike have clearly chosen the former path, and I'm not sure that's sustainable for either merchandise sales or the sport as a whole.

I know I'd buy more at the concession stand if the prices were cheaper.  At Marlins park, the new food is all around $14 for the main food (not including a drink).  They did introduce the "3o5" menu that has a few items like hot dogs and popcorn at lower prices, but they still have the other things at high prices.  That said, it's all much better than your typical ballpark food after the Jeter revamp of the park.
