  1. (Splitting this into two posts bc the page keeps reloading and clearing my progress) Philadelphia Cannoneers The Cannons become the Cannoneers, largely just because I think it sounds cooler. Their uniforms have been updated with a new white helmet, tweaked colors, and flat-color numbers more a more classic feel. I’m fiddling around with revamping their identity to feel more classic and more fitting of a Revolutionary War-inspired team (similar to the New England Revs) but that’s still in the sketch stage for now. Winnipeg Blizzards As a result of Philly switching to a white helmet, I’ve been worried they and Winnipeg look too similar at a distance. It might not be a big deal, but for the sake of considering all my options, I’ve tried out a few ideas for the Blizzards. Firstly, a simple switch to a royal blue helmet with a white facemask. Not a drastic change, but something about it doesn’t sit right with me. Perhaps I’ll change my mind, it’s just simply not my favorite idea. I also tried out something a bit more drastic: changing the Blizzards’ shade of blue from Royal to Powder. I absolutely adore this color scheme and really wish more teams would try it out. I think the powder blue helmet works better than the royal, but the contrast between powder and white might be a bit of an issue. I’ll continue to play around with the precise shade I use, but I’m leaning towards the powder blue out of these two options, assuming I ultimately decide to part with the current white helmet look. Québec Lumières Québec gets a tweaked uniform set, with their signature aurora stripe now being placed in the collar and sleeve cuffs. I like the idea of having the gradients arranged where the dominant secondary color of the jersey striping changes depending on the angle you see it at, if that makes sense. Jacksonville Stingrays Lastly, Jacksonville gets an updated color scheme, inspired my the PLL’s WaterDogs franchise: A dark indigo paired with a vibrant purple and a bluish-grey-off-white color. Their jersey striping has been moved from the sleeve caps to swooping down from the shoulders. Before I forget, I also made a more realistic mockup template for seeing how uniforms would look in action. I had mocked up most of the teams but unfortunately the file reverted to an old save and I lost a ton of progress(first and only time Affinity has ever done that to me). I haven’t gotten around to finishing the rest of the league’s uniforms on this template, nor most of these updates, but here’s Jacksonville as a sample. That’s all I have for now. Hopefully I won’t go 5 months without an update next time, as I’ll continue to keep this project in my periphery whenever I need a break from schoolwork. Until next time! Made in Affinity Designer. C&C appreciated.
  2. Oh boy, it has been far too long since the last update, my summer was especially busy between vacations and work and moving so I simply didn’t have all that much time to design anything in the logo department until the last few weeks. Still, I managed to stockpile a massive bunch of small tweaks over the summer. I mostly have uniform updates, some minor, some major, and a concepts that are still a work in progress. First off, I’ve updated the league logo and branding. The shield has been simplified down to just the Canadian and American flag motifs, along with an updated NAFA wordmark. Colors have been brightened a bit as well. I’m slowly fleshing out the visual identity of the league, and I’m experimenting with supplemental materials like championship logos, which aren’t quite there yet but are super fun to explore. I also tried out an All Star game uniform set, just for fun. Los Angeles Suns Los Angeles is getting an updated brand identity. The primary logo is still a work in progress as a unique sunburst mark is surprising difficult to make, but the identity will definitely revolve around a new, retro-inspired LA monogram. The updated wordmark consists of a script font to match the monogram and a rotationally symmetrical rounded inline typeface. The colorway has been brightened with richer shades throughout. The uniforms are updated accordingly, with bigger striping patterns and an inline number font to match the wordmark. San Antonio Wranglers I’ve used this uniform idea for at least two other Texas team concepts before, but whatever. San Antonio continues to be a team I’m at odds with, as I’m perfectly happy with their logos but their uniforms and color scheme never look quite right. This isn’t a look I’m entirely happy with, but it works for the time being. I included a new secondary logo that I am quite fond of, however. Minnesota Evergreens Minnesota gets the smallest change, with a darkened shade of green and wider striping on the helmet and pants.
  3. I don't know if there is such thing as a statement loss, but the Patriots look noticeably better. Holding the Eagles offense to one touchdown is hella impressive. That defense is gonna cause teams problems and the offense looks miles better than last year. Mac actually looked good, the offense is finally utilizing more than 1 player per game, and the rookies are making an immediate impact. The Patriots look like a playoff team in my book, it just depends on whether or not they can weather that tough schedule. People seem to forget they were half a game out of the playoffs last year and had some of the worst luck in the league, and then proceeded to get far stronger in the offseason. I'm cautiously optimistic as a Pats fan, I just hope the offense can stay consistently decent.
  4. Detroit vs. Kansas City Cincinnati vs. Cleveland Houston vs. Baltimore Tampa Bay vs. Minnesota Carolina vs. Atlanta Arizona vs. Washington Jacksonville vs. Indianapolis San Francisco vs. Pittsburgh Tennessee vs. New Orleans Las Vegas vs. Denver Philadelphia vs. New England LA Rams vs. Seattle Miami vs. LA Chargers Green Bay vs. Chicago Dallas vs. NY Giants Buffalo vs. NY Jets
  5. looks like his torso is hovering above his lower legs
  6. I'm trusting my dad's judgement here, I've only ever had sips of stuff at home I swear
  7. Chargers and Breakers look gorgeous, but I can't help but feel that Wyoming and Air Force would look better with helmets that match the pants, even though the Breakers and Air Force have such similar color schemes. I think the yellow and silver numbers for Wyoming and Air Force look out of place when the helmet doesn't match, or vice versa. If the numbers were white on each set, they'd work better imo. This feels less like a hard rule and more an issue of color balance across each element of the uniform.
  8. The lack of stripes on the home set also sours the Giants' set for me. I can live with different dominant colors on the home and away if it can be done tastefully, but having two completely separate home and away designs always looks worse than being... well, uniform. This is also partially why the Rams and Commanders have two of the league's worst sets, though there are plenty of other problems with those two. A simple striping pattern on both jerseys and gray pants throughout would work wonders. It doesn't take much detailing to get the color balance right without sacrificing the blue home / red away look or straying too far from what the Giants wore during their Super Bowl runs. (ignore the logo, i was fiddling around with a modernized 70's concept)
  9. Falling from first to second most popular beer in the U.S. isn't really failure but ok I'm not old enough to drink, and if I were I'd steer clear of Bud Light because it's crappy beer, but even I think their 'fall' is incredibly stupid. Crazy how much of a fuss people can throw over literally nothing.
  10. Those are... something. Shoehorned came patterns, nor sleeve fills, have ever looked good. This isn't anywhere near the worst military themed alternate uniform, but it's not great. At least it's a one-off look and isn't monochrome.
  11. Definitely overhated and looks great in the right combos Finish is cool but the logo is still awful and the facemask doesn't need to be black, go back to the speedbird I wouldn't say top 10 but it's not because this set is bad, there's at least 10 sets that are simply better what are you smoking
  12. Looks much better in blue and silver, but once again those away numbers don't have enough contrast. Blue would work far better.
  13. The uniform design could work in a vacuum, but going away from Honolulu blue and silver is a huge mistake. The Lions could remain losers for another century and they would still never look right wearing any other color scheme. The Lions have one of the richest uniform histories in the league, so it feels quite odd to throw everything they've ever worn aside in favor of a Boston College-esque look. The tan is way too light to ever work as a home jersey, as it wouldn't contrast nearly enough with any other team's white aways. Same complaint goes for the numbers on both the home and away: there isn't enough contrast. They would be virtually invisible from a distance. Why not a red home jersey? That would instantly solve the contrast issue. The black jersey, oddly enough, is the only jersey that works in that regard, but I'm still quite puzzled at the logic behind most of the design choices. Even if this were for any other team, the lack of contrast is a huge issue.
  14. I'm expecting to see the Colts bring back their blue throwback helmets that they wore in the late aughts, paired with the 3-stripe set they've worn each of the last few years. The only difference between the 1956 throwbacks they've worn and a 1955 throwback is swapping out the white helmets for blue. Seems a bit more likely than a new black alt as they've worn them in years past and already have an alternate uniform to pair a blue helmet with. Would be the easiest throwback in the world. Of course, a mono black monstrosity on a team that doesn't even need black in their color palette is never off the table nowadays, but one can be optimistic.
  15. Might be a scorching take but this throwback set is a just a tiny bit overrated. Still very much worthy of bringing back and a damn good uniform, but I honestly prefer the Vikings' current set to these by a good amount. The yellow and white on the stripes get muddied together at a distance due to lack of contrast and the gray facemask, though historically accurate, doesn't match the rest of the set at all. Feels weird to me having a dull gray element on an otherwise bright and cheery uniform. Easily the next best set the Vikings have had, just wouldn't be my cup of tea if it returned as a full-time set. Again, still a great uniform, love it as an alternate, I just wouldn't want to see this era's set return full time. The Vikings current set - so long as monochrome is avoided - is a modern classic and among the NFL's best uniforms.
  16. Absolutely love everything except the predominance of black over purple. Swap the colors on the Icon and the shoulder and collar detailing of the Association and those are perfect. Hopefully the statement is a purple palette swap with a different wordmark. I'm disappointed with how they leaned in on black, but I can live with it. Really good rebrand.
  17. Their logo package is one of the best in sports and the uniforms are really nice, but both are held back a ton by their drab color scheme. I think a full-blown Mardi Gras look would be fun, but probably a bit too bright and obvious. I've always thought the Pelicans should shift to a plum and brassy gold color scheme with red accents, something that feels New Orleans-y without being too on the nose. Subtle tweaks to the colors would do a world of difference.
  18. When uniform news has stalled or potential rebrands are still in theoretical stages, I love seeing concepts here. It helps visualize new ideas and gives people more to talk about. I don't want to see them completely dominate entire pages, but I appreciate seeing new concepts every once in a while when discussing teams that either face an identity crisis and are exploring new directions or only need a few tweaks to be great. In small doses, they don't hurt anybody and only bolster discussion. I'd rather see concepts being posted here than see news threads get clevejacked for the umpteenth time.
  19. god this team is gonna give me heart problems i swear Helluva win by the Celtics. Still one more game to go, but I don't see the C's squandering all this momentum in a game 7 in Boston. They'll be giving it their all on both sides for the chance to make history. It'd be hilarious if Tatum dropped a 52-point game just to break his own 2-week-old record, but that's wishful thinking. The Celtics have now won 5 straight elimination games, dating back to game 6 against the Sixers last round. This year's playoffs have been utterly insane.
  20. Caleb Williams is a far better passer than Kyler and has far more upside as an NFL QB, but there are definitely concerns about being immature. Reminds me a bit of Mahomes in terms of play style, though that's a very generous comparison. I'm an OU fan and watched both him and Kyler play, Caleb Williams has one of the best arms I've seen from a college QB. I'm still bitter that he transferred out of OU just to follow Lincoln Riley, but that's neither here nor there. If he can keep his ego in check he'll be an absolute stud.
  21. I wouldn't be too surprised if Nike ends up unveiling simplified versions of the Vapor Fusion template later down the line, slowly evolving it to have fewer seams as they did with their evolution from Speed Machine to Mach Speed to Vapor Untouchable over the course of the 2010s. Wishful thinking, for sure, but it could always happen down the line. I hope so, as I can't stand how obvious and how plentiful the seams are on the Vapor Fusion. The Vapor Untouchable was just about as perfect as you could get: only a few, unintrusive seams on the whole uniform, barely even noticeable. Doesn't make sense to me why they changed it, especially given how much the new template messes up number size and wordmark spacing.
  22. Note: JR Smith died on his way back to his home planet.
  23. I think the main thing protecting these amateur league teams is the fact they play in lower-level leagues. They may be riffing off of NFL teams to some degree, but they're never gonna cause legitimate confusion in the same market due to the fact that barely anybody knows they exist. The Tulsa Oilers one might be close enough to warrant a lawsuit, not to mention there's a minor-league hockey team using that same name iirc, but the Bay Area Panthers and Columbus Lions are fine. The Panthers can't possibly claim copyright simply for sharing a name, and the logo is about as generic a Panther head logo as you can get. The Lions get the same pass in terms of the logo, and the Lions don't own silver and light blue, so they should also be fine. Even the Rochester Raiders, sharing name, colors, and logo concept, can probably get off scot-free due to lack of exposure. None of these minor-league teams are trying to compete with the NFL. The XFL and the Roughnecks, on the other hand, are directly mooching off of a historical brand whilst trying to compete directly with the NFL by being a professional-level league with ex-NFL players. It might be an arbitrary line deciding what is and isn't copyright infringement, but that's the most logical explanation I can think of.
  24. It’s been far too long since I last left an update but I’ve been steadily working away at this series in the background while homework kept me busy all semester. To give myself a break as I dive headfirst into finals the next two weeks, here’s a collection of small tweaks and updates. Boston Mariners I know I literally just updated Boston, but turns out I stopped liking what I had almost immediately. Something about their uniforms felt off, the logo felt undercooked, I don’t know. Regardless, I overhauled them for what’s got to be the dozenth time, reverting to a shield-and-lighthouse logo, an updated wordmark, and a uniform set I designed way back in November 2020. Somehow I got their uniforms right back then, and I really like how they look with a tweaked colorway and an updated logo package. Anyways, I’m finally happy with Boston again, but I fully expect to become unhappy again within the next 3-6 months. That seems to be the trend with them. We’ll see. Cincinnati Shamrocks The Shamrocks ditch the blocky C in favor of a decorative rounded faux-wishbone C. The gradient details are optional, and can easily be swapped out for flat color, but I thought they added some nice detail. The shades of green and orange are a bit darker and richer. The uniforms are also slightly tweaked with a new number font, the new detailed logo on the helmet, and a shiny orange facemask. San Francisco Grizzlies San Francisco is finally just about done! I stuck with a simple logo package for them: An SF monogram, and stepping bear logo inspired by California’s flag, and a bear claw mark. The uniforms rely on a modern simplistic route, using the bear logos on the shoulders and the arched word mark on the jerseys. I’ve also made a handful of small color tweaks for a handful of teams, which can be seen below. Each team has had their respective color schemes slightly darkened or adjusted to feel richer and more realistic to modern color choices. Also, as a fun experiment, I’ve also been goofing around with throwback looks for a bunch of teams. I’m still figuring the history of the league out, but I have a general idea of when teams entered the league and basic info like that. Regardless, I thought it’d be fun to experiment with throwbacks to different eras, so here are a few examples. That’s all I’ve got for now! With finals approaching and summer just around the corner, I’m not sure exactly what my plans for the series are. I’ll be working pretty often over the summer so I don’t know how much room I’ll have for side projects, but I’ll see how it goes. Hoping to wrap up a few more updates and finally finish up this project for good in the next year or so. C&C appreciated. Made in Affinity Designer.
