  1. The Calgary Wranglers still don't have their secondary Blasty logo on the site, just the primary logo and wordmark;
  2. Can only assume that it probably involves their Blasty logo, like the NHL club's third, given the use of black.
  3. If that was the reasoning, it's stupid since their expansion brothers prove you can have both blue pants with a stripe and a black stripeless shell for the alternate without causing much of an issue.
  4. Kassian and I believe Boyd also had matte helmets last year, though in that case it was likely down to helmet model since they both used a Bauer 4500 instead of a CCM or Bauer ReAkt like the rest of the team; I guess the team liked how it looked and decided to adopt the matte look as standard.
  5. I mean, the problem with Toronto is their extremely limited color palette makes it absurdly difficult to come up with interesting alternate ideas that aren't just "throwback to something before" or "slight alteration of look we had before". That, or something that looks nigh-identical to what they already wear (which at that point why even bother with the alternate at all). Which is fine for a while, but fans will inevitably want to see a team do something bold and new (take the rising demand for a black Detroit alternate jersey as an example) with an alternate jersey; and when a team starts heavy experimentation with their identity, you're inevitably going to have some duds. The problem is that at least Toronto swung for the fences and tried a unique idea, even if the execution was kinda mediocre. The Rangers...just did a worse version of a Devils jersey that was already not that popular. It's like instead of trying to swing for a base hit or homer, they just bunted.
  6. Please, please, puhleaaaaase let that just be a scrapped alternate that somehow found it's way to market.
  7. Seems he was using a proxy bettor to make bets using his own insider knowledge. The fact that he and the PA are not appealing it also means that Pinto was clearly guilty of something, because why else would Pinto not try to appeal a 41-game suspension?
  8. Meanwhile, in Alberta... ...the Oilers are, uh, not having a fun start to the year.
  9. If you want to go to the World Series, maybe win the games you need to win to get there first. If you can't win the DS or CS, you don't deserve to go to the World Series, simple as. You don't win baseball games by putting up prettier stat numbers than the opponent.
  10. I cannot even begin to fathom why someone could possibly be mad at this scenario. We have one of the longest-suffering teams in baseball, a team that took 36 seasons to make the playoffs for the first time and attempting to claim their franchise's first World Series in 63 years, going up against a young, hungry team that has took down two of the top teams in the NL and attempting to win the franchise's first World Series in 22 years. Frankly, this is probably the most exciting World Series since Nats-Astros in 2019, to me, because I'm going to be happy no matter who wins. If you can't enjoy that because of a simple goddamn number, you're really just looking for reasons to be mad at the result.
  11. If they wanted to keep that jersey around, they could've made that their alternate this year instead of their former home red, like Minnesota did with their RR 2.0; but they didn't, so clearly it wasn't popular enough to bring back. The anniversary reds, though, were apparently popular enough and sold so well as to really make the Canes look at it and the white counterpart for use as a major part of their future uniform lineup. That, to me, suggests it's far more likely any new red Canes jersey would have a strong resemblance to that original red Canes jersey.
  12. When the Astros lose in the playoffs, America wins.
  13. Exactly, a small market with a weak dollar is never going to be appealing to the NHL, or any major sports league really, when it comes to future expansion. They want the big buck markets if they're having expansion or sale prices be in the range of hundreds of millions to billions of dollars, because it makes it easier and more likely to actually get a benefit from that investment. There's a reason that the only Canadian cities with major-league franchises outside of the NHL are Vancouver, Toronto and Montréal, the three largest markets in the country; and even then, two of those only have MLS teams outside of the NHL at the moment.
  14. Aaand Tampa chokes a multi-goal lead to the Leafs...again. Tampa's looked very pedestrian to start the season.
  15. Heavily disagree on both accounts; the italicized font is a unique thing for the Canes now, and was a fun bit of flair for the Canes that made their jerseys feel even more distinct, it was a bad decision to move away from it in the first place. And the silver was a good way to help distinguish the Canes' color palette from the Hawks, Sens and Devils, who all also use red and black as their main colors. Plus, well...there is a certain association with both italicized font and silver in the Canes' history;
  16. Honestly, maybe a controversial take; I think the Devils going back to red+green as their main look would've been the better move coming out of the Lou era than anything they've done since for exactly that reason. They needed to change the branding more than they did if they want to move on from the Lou era.
  17. I mean, I don't think it's terrible, honestly, and it's not like it's unprecedented in the NHL's history for white jerseys to have dark helmets, as seen with the Avs; Nor is it unusual in international competition; And that's not even getting into all the minor and junior teams that do it.
  18. The fact that the Cup is off-center on the banner is going to bug the :censored: out of me.
  19. Honestly really like both. People are dunking on the Oilers sweater, but it's perfectly in-line with the Mercurys jersey it's based on, as are the Flames with theirs. It's an incredibly fun throwback that lets the Oilers put a very vintage spin on their own identity instead of, say, just mildly changing a jersey they already have or something lame. Like, maybe the tan pants are a little weird...but it's a Heritage Classic, it fits the general vintage motif they're aiming for. Besides, it's a look the Oilers have never done before. And like, I legit do not know what else people expected; we knew this was what we were getting as soon as the logos leaked. It's not a surprise that the team clearly using the Mercurys logo as inspiration...would use a Mercurys-based jersey design.
  20. It's probably because of how obsessed a lot of people on said mainstream channels are these days about how "clean" or "fresh" a uniform is or whatever. It leads to a lot of uniforms that tend to blend together because teams keep chasing whatever's considered "clean" or "fresh" at the moment. Given the occasion (the RCAF centennial), I think the Jets doing this is actually really smart. Their logo is literally just a modified RCAF roundel, after all; they've always had a tie to the military, so they're really the only Canadian team suited for this kind of homage. And Ottawa wasn't going to do it anyways, considering it doesn't fit their brand at all and Sens fans would've rioted if they brought out their first non-RR alternate since the rebrand and it wasn't either a laurel alt jersey revival or some variant of the O design.
  21. The WHA jersey is their official third jersey, fairly sure. This is just a specialty design they're wearing this season.
