  1. I mean, I don't think it's terrible, honestly, and it's not like it's unprecedented in the NHL's history for white jerseys to have dark helmets, as seen with the Avs; Nor is it unusual in international competition; And that's not even getting into all the minor and junior teams that do it.
  2. The fact that the Cup is off-center on the banner is going to bug the :censored: out of me.
  3. Honestly really like both. People are dunking on the Oilers sweater, but it's perfectly in-line with the Mercurys jersey it's based on, as are the Flames with theirs. It's an incredibly fun throwback that lets the Oilers put a very vintage spin on their own identity instead of, say, just mildly changing a jersey they already have or something lame. Like, maybe the tan pants are a little weird...but it's a Heritage Classic, it fits the general vintage motif they're aiming for. Besides, it's a look the Oilers have never done before. And like, I legit do not know what else people expected; we knew this was what we were getting as soon as the logos leaked. It's not a surprise that the team clearly using the Mercurys logo as inspiration...would use a Mercurys-based jersey design.
  4. It's probably because of how obsessed a lot of people on said mainstream channels are these days about how "clean" or "fresh" a uniform is or whatever. It leads to a lot of uniforms that tend to blend together because teams keep chasing whatever's considered "clean" or "fresh" at the moment. Given the occasion (the RCAF centennial), I think the Jets doing this is actually really smart. Their logo is literally just a modified RCAF roundel, after all; they've always had a tie to the military, so they're really the only Canadian team suited for this kind of homage. And Ottawa wasn't going to do it anyways, considering it doesn't fit their brand at all and Sens fans would've rioted if they brought out their first non-RR alternate since the rebrand and it wasn't either a laurel alt jersey revival or some variant of the O design.
  5. The WHA jersey is their official third jersey, fairly sure. This is just a specialty design they're wearing this season.
  6. You mean the market not that much smaller than Cleveland, bigger than Milwaukee and that is growing rapidly is attracting the eye of the MLB? Shocking. Next, we'll find out they're interested in Vegas or something, or want a team in the second-biggest city in Canada. Nashville absolutely fits in the scope of MLB expansion, and in terms of market it is definitely desirable; it's a very notable city in the Southeast US for a reason.
  7. Mercurys is the name that's been tossed around since the beginning, so I doubt it's related to that. Plus, the logo the Oilers are using is basically identical to the Mercurys in having the banner and text below a logo instead of surrounding it like that Oil Kings one.
  8. Given the Oilers are throwing back to the Mercurys, my best bet is Calgary is matching that and going with a Stampeders-based design. Given the logo matches near-identically (just with Flames branding), it may based on this design;
  9. Because "Minnesota Northern Lights" isn't a hilariously cumbersome name compared to "Minnesota Wild", right. "Minnesota North Stars" worked because of the fact that the words were short and thus easy for broadcasters to say, like "Red Wings"; that's also why "Wild" works. "Northern Lights" is cumbersome and unless you want people calling your team "The Lights", then it's hard to truncate well.
  10. Eh, I'd disagree that it "messed up" the North Stars, myself; at least not until the twilight years in Minnesota. The jerseys they had before those were pretty solid and kept black and gold equal in the hierarchy; There's something to be said about black as a color being a great supplement to an otherwise-bright color scheme to add just a little more punch. The problem, as with anything in sports aesthetics, is there'll inevitably be those who take a good idea and push it way too far for their own good (see: BFBS Mets, like every NHL third jersey from the initial batch, gradients and printed designs, etc).
  11. The colors of the red and blue lines are league-mandated, and I severely doubt they'll ever change that since having consistent line colors league-wide is much better for everybody with how baked-in the association is. It's like how every NFL and MLB field uses white for the field markings.
  12. Why would the Canes be the ones to break what was an extremely good affiliation for both parties and instead affiliate with a team known for giving 0 :censored:s about developing prospects that has bounced all over the place before now as an affiliate? This seems more like it's an issue with Charlotte's ownership butting heads with the Canes and deciding to split.
  13. Will you get over this already? It happened, you didn't like it, move the hell on instead of constantly whinging about it. Literally nobody else in this thread is still talking about it.
  14. We have hat leaks for the Knights and Kraken Winter Classic;
  15. Ottawa sometimes had OTW in those same applications, which makes me think maybe either EA was just kinda weird or the league hadn't standardized abbreviations yet since so many graphics packages were still using full geographic names and the scorebug as we know it hadn't taken off in hockey quite yet;
  16. That's not a prediction, that's just fearmongering. If jersey ads haven't completely overrun the NBA, undoubtedly the league least concerned with such things as aesthetics and uniform sanctity, then I have my doubts any of the major leagues will do so by the end of this decade. Teams in the major NA leagues value their own brand heavily, there's literally no way they'd be fine with letting other companies' brands be more prominent then their own on a uniform; Euro leagues have a very different culture surrounding that stuff which makes it more palatable, and in junior leagues that's part of how they stay financially viable as compared to the hundreds-of-millions to billion-dollar major leagues. That's why there's plenty of ads on playing surfaces, since those are all standardized league-wide and thus you can sell space there without worrying about it diluting the team brand as much; only the most purist of purists truly give a if, like, the boards in hockey have ads in the grand scheme of things, that's why they've had them since since the 80's.
  17. Oooh, that subtle wave in the striping on the home and road is sick. Kinda surprised the white doesn't have black accenting (transplanting the cuff and hem of the black wouldn't look terrible, IMO), but that's a minor quibble in a very sharp uniform.
  18. Most likely it just means using the ICE template and just swapping the ICE logos out for Wild ones. Ooh, I like this update. Black, bronze-gold and blue are a real unique color combo that work well here. Plus it makes the Monsters feel more distinct instead of just copycatting the Cavaliers' colors because both are owned by the same group.
  19. I wouldn't be shocked if they pull a 20th and have at least one "Throwback Night" where they wear the original jerseys and have a throwback graphic package and goal song to try and please the fanbase.
  20. The earliest sources I can find on the Wiki article date in the 2006-2007 range, which is obviously far too late to have been any kind of influence on the Ducks' original branding. Even the second article says the plans were initially made in 2004, which is still long after the Ducks came into the NHL. So yeah, the Platinum Triangle definitely had no influence on the Ducks using a silver triangle in their branding; if I had to guess, it was likely they just did it to make the logo more visible on TV cameras at the time.
  21. White pops much better against the dark blue than teal would, and for NOB ease of sight is extremely important.
  22. Absolutely incorrect lmao, the Boston Marathon is literally one of the most notable and respected marathons in the world. So? What does that have to do with your statement of why the Boston Marathon, specifically, is not iconic? Plenty of cities in Canada have marathon races of their own, does that make the Terry Fox Run any less iconic?
  23. At least it kinda matches the team colors? About the best I can manage.
