  1. Tweet See new Tweets Conversation Rob Rossi @Real_RobRossi A lot of readers keep asking if new Penguins alternate will feature Pigeon/Robo Penguin logo. I can report that some people in organization pushed for it. I was also reminded by people with Penguins that Mario Lemieux has never liked that logo. So… Why would he hate yellow? Considering The Yellow Home Jersey ('80/'81 - '84 Pre-Season ONLY) was retired before the '84/'85 Regular Season even started 10:36 PM · Sep 2, 2021·TheAthletic
  2. Why are they Cowards? King Penguin himself, Mario Lemieux H A T E D the pigeon robo hummingbird thingie. And it's only the youngins and newbies that actually like it
  3. As long as Lemieux is still connected to the Franchise, I highly doubt that dead pos pigeon robo thing comes back. I know it's popular with the youngsters (us old timers loathe it and are glad the Skating Penguin came back) but the New(er) Skating Penguin has 3 Cups attached to it.
  4. HA HA HA HA HA! Nobody wants that garbage Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium pigeon / robo logo back except the youngins who have no idea why most Pittsburghers don't like it, the fact that King Penguin himself Mario Lemieux doesn't like it should say something! I'm sorry I cannot UNSEE nor UNLEARN what that howard baldwin pos pigeon / robo Represents. Ya know that bull**** that Lemieux had to go through (fighting with the Commonwealth of PA, Allegheny County and City of Pittsburgh) to get the Pens a New Arena, yeah baldwin Created that Problem by NOT jumping on the Plan B proposal with the Pirates and Steelers to get New Ball Park, Stadium and Arena had baldwin jumped on it Pittsburgh Post Gazette article written by Ron Cook (interviewing howard baldwin) - Baldwin cared deeply about the Penguins and their fans and, for a time in the 1990s, was the city's most beloved sports owner. But no one knew at the time he was keeping a winning team together by giving huge contracts to Mario Lemieux, Jaromir Jagr and so many others that he didn't have the money to do the deals. It wasn't until the franchise filed for bankruptcy in October, 1998, that we realized just how reckless and foolish many of his decisions were with the players, with Spectacor Management Group, with Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh and with city and county officials. - Although the contract with SMG, which managed Mellon Arena, was cited as the overriding cause of the bankruptcy, it was Baldwin's deal with the city and county that still could force the Penguins out of town. In '97, he accepted a $12.9 million Band-Aid for club seats and other improvements at the arena instead of jumping on the Plan B bandwagon with the Pirates and Steelers, who built terrific new facilities. - "There was talk of new stadiums then, but no guarantees," Baldwin said. "I thought it was important to add the club seats without adding to our debt service. Those club seats are good seats. The arena isn't the problem there." Told that team officials say the Penguins' only chance of staying in Pittsburgh is a new building, Baldwin said, "You're not talking to them now. You're talking to me. I've never believed a new arena will solve all of the problems. Look at Kevin McClatchy. How much did the Pirates' attendance drop off from year one to year two at their new ballpark? - "I just hope that everyone back there -- the mayor and the politicians -- gets behind Mario. The hockey fans there deserve it. They probably don't think much of me, but they're great fans." It's no wonder Baldwin is rooting so hard for the Penguins. If they don't make it, his fingerprints will be all over the corpse. Again, I'm sorry I cannot UNSEE nor UNLEARN that!
  5. And you don't think the pigeon logo hasn't had Bad Stuff happen or attached to it (cough cough howard baldwin cough cough). That's why many Pittsburghers loathe that pos garbage logo. The logo itself would have been fine had baldwin waited 10 years to change it or if Lemieux had taken Ownership and then changed it...ok cool! But the logo change paired with Everything that happened to the Pens after that / during baldwins reign, not a good combination
  6. I have a love / hate relationship with the '80s Flyers uniform. I Love the way it looks, it's my favorite of their uniforms, to me That look is the Flyers. Hate comes from the fact that I am on the West side of Pa LOL! Actually Rick Tocchet and Tim Kerr were my favorite non Pens players
  7. Thank You, Well spoke! You can go back through time (all sports) and see how many Teams have rarely if ever have changed logos or even altered those logos. Montreal Canadiens, NY Yankees, Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers, Notre Dame, Penn State, Pittsburgh Steelers (yinzers would burn the City down to the ground if the Steelers ever changed or messed with their logo)
  8. EA hasn't been the same without direct competition pushing them to do better.
  9. Only thing I didn't like about this look was the color scheme. The Gretzky era are still my favorite Oilers look but if you made this in Royal Blue and Orange
  10. The Bridge that leads me from my local community (Homestead / West Homestead and Munhall) to the City of Pittsburgh is now called the Homestead Grays Bridge (formerly the Homestead Hi-level Bridge)
  11. I agree! I'm tired of all the Road Teams looking the same. I grew up in the 80s, some really good Road uniforms in that era
  12. Not sure if this qualifies but early Pittsburgh Penguins. Late 60s, 70s up until drafting Lemieux. Traded away #1 picks for aging Vets (aka Hockey Card players), being beaten out Attendance wise by the Pittsburgh Spirit (M.I.L.S), 1st Bankruptcy. Also like to include the 90s (specifically the howard baldwin years). Failure to jump on the Plan B Initiative (with the Pirates and Steelers) to get a New Arena. Selling off the Pens / Franchise rights to non Hockey Concessions and Parking revenue (Pens got all the Parking / Concessions revenue generated by non Hockey events such as: Concerts, WWF, monster Jam, etc. Overpaying Vet players when they didn't have the money to do so (Ego is writing checks the Franchise didn't have sorta thing)(me thinks that Non Hockey Revenue might have come in handy when paying the Players). 2nd Bankruptcy
  13. I agree with you to an extent! It's not so much these Athletes are complaining, it's (for me anyway) more that they act like we're living in the Stone Ages and Modern Technology doesn't exist Bold - for almost 2 months PA Residents weren't allowed to leave their Houses (except to go to Store), I know in my community, the Karens were out in full force, if you tried to go for a walk around the local High School Football Field / Track, then they would shame you on social media for it. At least in the bubble they don't have friends / neighbors turning on them and trying to get them into trouble for being out and about. Try being in the Military and on a 6 month Cruise (before modern technology like email, zoom, skype, texting) when a hand written letter took 10 Days just to reach it's destination and then waiting for a reply letter back. Hell, I'll take sitting in a Bubble with my Xbox, iPhone, Laptop, iPad, things so I can communicate with my Friends and Family on a second to second, minute to minute, hour to hour daily basis as opposed to sitting on a ship for 2 months, where communication is a hand written letter....that doesn't take a mental toll on a person? Underline - Exactly, being that I was in Other Countries (while in the Navy, I see how other people live. We are very very fortunate to have the amenities / freedoms / luxuries that we enjoy while other parts of the world can't even afford basic human needs. Take Italy as an example, you have 3 generations of a family living in what is a standard 2 bedroom Apt (here in the States). Egypt, children were sent to the docks to peddle homemade wares for money because their family is so poor and living in a single room shanty. Everyone knows the hardships of Ethiopia and such so don't need to go there Italicized - My wife is a Social Worker and we see this a lot. Her one family is a family of 11, they cannot afford $20 Discounted tickets to Kennywood Park while (and we see this because we belong to many different Disney sites) there are people complaining about their Annual Disney Pass going up in price
  14. to add to this, ok so the Bubble isn't all Rainbows and Unicorns full of Fun stuff to do, try doing a 6 moth tour of duty on a Naval Ship during a time of unrest (my first Med Cruise was Nov '91, tensions were still high after the Gulf War), doing nothing but circles in the Adriatic Sea waiting for something to happen. Waaa Waaa we can't fly fish, we cannot golf (because ya know, a lot of the peasant golf courses aren't open either or open on a Limited Basis so the peasants cannot golf every hour of every day either)
  15. HARUMPF!! 100% Agreed. After 14yrs (almost 6 full months on Furlough), I was a victim of covid closures. I have spent the last 2 weeks scrambling like a chicken with it's head cut off trying to secure a job for myself so I can help support my Family, problem is, a lot of places are coming off of a Hiring Freeze and now have a crap ton of people (whom lost their jobs thanks to covid) vying for the same 2,3 jobs. So please spare me the song and dance act. Tuukka Rask left the Bubble, other players could do the same
  16. Would the Players Union have any input on that as well?
  17. Capitals - YES Jets - YES (but would like it in the Selanne era color scheme)
  18. Oilers - YES (righted a wrong and when back to the Gretzky era color scheme only to F it up again by going to Navy) Arizona - YES (to the logo) NJ - full of YES (my wife is from NJ and has been waiting for the Red / Green to come back)
  19. Problem I have with the Adidas rounded collars is the fact that a round collar doesn't make for a good for ties. The ties on a v-neck jersey made sense, the ties on this rounded collar is just stupid
  20. My thing is, it's 2020. Games are broadcast in HD, we sit in our Homes and watch these HD Games on our HDTVs. Brighter Colors POP on an HDTV. Royal Blue and Orange POP more than Navy Blue (US Navy Dress Blues almost look black, a Police Officers Navy Blue uniform looks almost black). Maybe it's just me but I don't understand the fascination with dark (Navy Blue, Dark Red, Dark Green) drab colors in a HD World
  21. A friggin MEN! It's well known on this board my wishes to go back to a simpler Game Day Experience
  22. Random (local Pittsburgh) Texaco tidbit. Both my Grandfathers worked at Homestead Works Steel Mill and also at the Texaco right up the the hill from the Mills. Basically how my Mom and Dad met LOL
  23. At least here in Pittsburgh / Western Pa area - Quiznos - shame because I really liked their prime rib (I think there may be 1 or 2 at the Rest Stops on the PA Turnpike) Krispy Kreme - Liked them but I think they oversaturated the area to quickly, seemed like every few days a neighborhood was getting a Krispy Kreme. The West Mifflin Krispy Kreme was turned into a Chick Fil A, which is booming (always jam packed) I know there are some still around (Robinson Town Center, Pittsburgh Int'l Airport, Cedar Point) but I would add - Quaker Steak & Lube (Episode of Man vs Food), many years QSL was the place to go for Wings but once Buffalo Wild Wings moved in as competition, QSL lost big. I know here in West Mifflin, QSL is now a Texas Roadhouse and like the Chick Fil A (always jam packed). Buffalo Wild Wings is right up the Street
