  1. This fun project is coming to an end with a double post today from the final group. For Portugal I went with a deep red home kit featuring a pattern inspired by the art style commonly found on Portuguese wooden roosters. The away is a uniquely Portuguese look showing off the beautiful tile work found on some of Portugal's beautiful streets. Last but not least, Uruguay's sky blue home kit features four wavy lines for the four primary rivers that can be found across their beautiful land. I added plenty of nods to their historic program, including the lace up collar on the home, and the sash on the red away kit that is also a nod to looks of the past. In addition, the flag and blue and white cuff striping is taken from the flag of Artigas, one of the nations alternate flags. Now that the 32 teams are done, let me know what you guys think. Any standout favourites? Any other nations you'd like to see me tackle? Thanks for the support in my first posts on the forum I'm looking forward to taking on some clubs teams next!
  2. The Korean Republic has modernized their crest recently and I'm a big fan of their new look. I used those sharp lines as the basis of a tiger striping pattern across the home kit. The away is based off of their flag, with a gradient like stripe pattern in blue and red to emulate the Taegeuk, along with black accents on an all white base. I also blacked out the logo on the away kit. Any thoughts on Korea's kits? Portugal and Uruguay will round out the rear this weekend and that will be all she wrote for this massive project. Probably some edits/keeper kits afterwards but open to suggestions for other national team concepts if anyone is interested!
  3. Next up is the final of three African nations with a similar colour scheme. I wanted to create a unique look for the Black Stars from Ghana, so I utilized that nickname to create an intimidating all black away strip. For the contrasting all white home kit I utilized the striping from their logo to make a ribbon look around their neck to frame the black star on the chest. What do you guys think of my Ghana kits? Is it too different from their usual look or does it work for the African nation?
  4. Cameroon provided me an interesting challenge, as they are now supplied by a kit manufacturer I knew nothing about and has very little to work off of for past kits. As a newer company with what I'm assuming is a smaller budget it seemed like the type of situation where they would use the same template for the two kits. For the design I used patterns from traditional Cameroonian clothing throughout while taking advantage of their bold colours. For the away kit I used black sleeves as an homage to the (in)famous sleeveless kits Cameroon tried to sneak past FIFA 20 years ago. That's a wrap for this group, moving on to the final group tomorrow!
  5. Red and white kits made by Puma for a European country in group G starting with the letter S? Feels like groundhog day... For Serbia I went with a returned to a deeper red I find it suits them well with the gold accents of their newly designed logo. I swear I designed these before Puma's quasi-templated away kits featuring shapes surrounding the numbers on the chest, yet I went with a similar idea on a few of my kits including the serbian eagle wings on this home kit. For the away I drew inspiration from the cross on their crest that the eagle is gripping, creating it out sword like shapes, an homage to the Schiavonesca (Slavic sword) used by knights of Serbia during the 14th-16th centuries. I hope you guys like it, comments and criticisms of all kinds are appreciated.
  6. Alright back in action today after a brief hiatus, today it's time for the the swiss. With a symbol/flag as recognizable as theirs, it was an easy choice for me to use the Swiss cross as the base of a pattern for the home kit. The away kit features a silhouette of the imposing Matterhorn with some red and black accents to create a pleasing home and away combo. I'll be posting another European team dressed by puma tomorrow. Hope you all are still enjoying this series, I'm sad that its almost coming to an end...
  7. The world number one and most celebrated team in World Cup history are up next. Brazil were possibly my biggest challenge for sticking to tradition on the home kit. The tiniest change could cause an uproar with Brazilian supporters. So I kept it fairly simple, with a solid gradient on the cuff patterns inspired by the shining sun on Brazilian beaches. With the home drawing inspiration from the warm sunshine, the away is based on the night's sky. Taking the stars from their national flag, a made a kit fit for the superstars that shine while playing the beautiful game for the Seleção. I'll be taking tomorrow off to watch team Canada (priorities sorry) but I'll return Monday with another Group G team! Any favourites from the previous group?
  8. I complete Canada's group with their opponent in matchday 3, Morocco. The Atlas Lions have worn a red kit with lighter green and white accents as their home and a white away kit in years past. For the home I used an ornate Moroccan pattern to decorate the front of the kit, with the circular pattern surrounding the number. The away I used the striping from their logo as inspiration for a pattern of striping coming down from the shoulder through the centre of their logo. Tomorrow I finally escape the red home kit look with Brazil to start off group G.
  9. Next up in Group F we've got last edition's surprise runner ups. The Croatians have a signature look that is non negotiable, and there really are only so many ways to make a checkered kit. There turned out to be some similarities with my original concept and the one Nike released for their home kit! For the away I went with a combination that I find extremely aesthetically pleasing in past editions, red and white checkers on blue kits. No deep meaning just two kit designs that I thought looked good! Next up will be Morocco, what will be a fourth primarily red home kit in this group!
  10. Thats a great point now that you mention it I see it as being more Germany for sure, definitely one that I'll have a do-over for in my edits. Thanks for the comments about Canada!
  11. Today is a day I have been waiting for for a very long time: Canadian World Cup game day!!! In honour of such a historic occasion I have a double feature for you, my native Canucks and their mighty Red Devil opponents today. For the Belgians I've outfitted them in a home kit inspired by their nickname, all fierce red adorned with devil's tridents and firey embers on the sleeves. While they away is a kit fit for a king, with gold accents including a sleeve pattern taken from the crown on their emblem. On the other side of this matchup we have Canada, a team many were disappointed to see showing up to the world's stage without new kits. In my conceptual universe that isn't the case and les Rouges return to the World Cup with a proud red home kit with a maple leaf on their chest, plaid cuffs and a sublimated striping style familiar to sporting fans of the Great white north. The away is iced out to honour our winter climate that we are so proud of, and one that we utilized to our advantage this qualifying campaign with famous results at the Iceteca in Edmonton, and other frozen fortresses in Hamilton and Toronto. Looking forward to reading some comments as I try to distract myself from the stress of this match starting in a few hours!
  12. Another day another Adidas concept. Spain has a traditional home look of red over navy while their away kit has seen many different colours over the years. For the home I used the Adidas three stripes as the primary feature again, with a waving flag pattern coming down through the logo. For the away I went for an intimidating 'bull seeing red' look, with a cubist pattern sublimated on the kit. Will FIFA make them get a third kit because these two are too dark? Most likely yes... But I liked it too much to care so I'll probably make a third white kit for them later. My nation's group is up next, with their games beginning tomorrow as well. I'll be starting off with their opponent Belgium.
  13. In the real world Japan has one of my favourite kits at this years World Cup, but I designed this concept before those had been released. In my fake concept world Japan also has one of my favourites but I'll see if you agree. Japan has a beautiful variety of living space across their small islands, so I created a combination of kits that embraces that contrast. The home kit is inspired by the neon streets of Tokyo, with a bright pink striped fading away down the centre of the chest meant to depict that reflections of neon signs on street puddles at night. The away moves towards the countryside with colours of the cherry blossom tree combined with a pinstripe pattern commonly seen on another Japanese national team jersey, their baseball team. Hopefully you guys like my take on the Japanese kits! Tomorrow I'll finish up the Group with a third Adidas team in a row, Spain.
  14. Germany and Adidas have teamed up for some iconic looks throughout their history, so I tried to honour that past with the away while creating a new look for the home. The home kit features a bold Adidas three stripe pattern across the chest in the national flag colours, while the away returns to their teal/green look with a more toned down version of their in/famous 94 look. One modern one retro for a German team with a storied past but also a bright future. I can't believe the World Cup is already here today! Tomorrow I have in store a Japan concept for you that may be my favourite so far...
  15. Beginning Group E with another CONCACAF nation, looking to recreate their cinderella run from 2014. For a country with such an abundance of natural beauty, their kits this year leave much to be desired. I took my inspiration from their unique geographical features. The home features three peaks for the three volcanoes found in Costa Rica, also found on their national crest and team logo. The away kit, or the waterfall kit, strays from their usual red, blue and white colours for a navy to aqua gradient depicting the many waterfalls and beautiful rivers that wind through the Costa Rican forests. Let me know what you guys think, I like trying out different colours for the away kits as it seems somewhat realistic that every year a few teams think outside the box (Belgium and Argentina this year come to mind).
  16. Rounding out Group D we have Tunisia looking to escape the group stage for the first time in their history. The only nation outfitted by Kappa has worn jerseys produced by many brands over the years but often likes to use patterns honouring parts of their culture so I stuck with that idea. Tunisia has some beautiful Mediterranean architecture and tile work found around every corner. The home kit takes inspiration from the many intricately designed doorways you can see walking the streets of Tunis, while the away features the same tile pattern found on the home side panels in large with an elligant gold, black and white colourway. Can't believe I'm at the halfway point of this project already, which is your favourite concept so far? Are you looking forward to any one in particular in the last four groups?
  17. A European powerhouse looking to end the defending champions curse is up today. The French national team has worn some beautiful kits over the years and I hope to do that history justice with these two concepts. Simplicity is often key with French jersey design, so for the home I let the tricolour speak for itself , using both the new navy and old royal blue from their flag as a transition between the two. I personally love when reigning champions adorn their jersey with gold accents in any sport, so I used that idea for the away, featuring the french symbol of the fleur-de-lis on the arms and some subtle gold striping on the sides and collar for a classy look. Is this concept fit for the champs? Tomorrow I'll end the week and Group D with a more adventurous Tunisian concept.
  18. From one of the southernmost nations in the World Cup to one of the northernmost, Denmark is coming off a great run in the Euros and are looking to build off that. When I think of Danish kits I immediately think of the chevrons of their national based kit supplier Hummel. So I took that pattern and ran with it for the home kit creating an alternating patter across the front of the kit. For the away kit I went with a stylized Nordic cross design meeting up over the team crest on the heart, trying to do the most with the simple colour combination while still keeping it authentic to their usual look. Tomorrow I tackle the reigning champion French team. Thanks for the comments this morning I appreciate it! I'm glad you like the home kit! Thanks for the view of the polish fans, I'll keep that in mind as I make some edits afterwards. I posted these on reddit too and had someone tell me I should do GK kits and the black away would look great on Szczęsny what do you think about that?
  19. Group D begins with the land down under! The lovable Australian team who surprised many by winning their intercontinental playoff in Penalty Kicks gives me a colourful pallette to choose from. Green and yellow combined make for one of my favourite sporting looks, so I let is speak mostly for itself. With a wavy pattern meant to evoke the natural beauty of the rock formations found across the Australian outback. I returned to the navy and yellow look of years past for the away kit, with a pattern of yellow dots meant to look like the Wattle plant which Australia takes its national colour from. @GriffinM6 you'll be happy to see the great Danes concept tomorrow, I think you'll enjoy it!
  20. Rounding up Group C here, and probably in the final table as well, we have Saudi Arabia. The Green Falcons stick with a simple but effective green and white colour scheme on their kits traditionally so I stuck with that. The striping on both kits and shorts come to a point like a sword from their flag and coat of arms. The home white features green shoulders with an abstract wing like pattern, which I now realize I have been featuring many wing inspired designs but don't blame me blame birds and dragons for being a cool feature on nations flags, logos and therefore jerseys. For the away I went with a repeating pattern of the two primary symbols used in most Saudi iconography, the crossed swords and palm trees. Which is your favourite out of Group C? Australia, Denmark, France and Tunisia await in the next group!
  21. From one team known for pushing the design limits, to one who has been walking the line between simple and boring as of late. While I do quite enjoy many of their classic looks, I think Poland is in need of a bit of a change in their program after a few disappointing results in recent tournaments. While I can't change how they play on the field I can change how they theoretically look. So here is my view of a modernized Polish national team. The home takes the traditional look while adding a modern graphic, taken from the mosaic facade of their national stadium. The away is a new look intimidating black kit with the wings of their fierce eagle proudly placed on the chest. Can't believe the World Cup is only a week away! I'll be posting Saudi Arabia tomorrow to round out Group C, hope you guys have been enjoying this series so far...
  22. From a team who has found World Cup glory twice to a team that would give up their first born to get out of the first knockout round. The Mexican national team may have struggled to make a run in the last few world cups, but in my opinion they looked awfully good in those four games. For a team never afraid to push the limits, I made sure to try out some new things for their concepts. The home is inspired by Mexico's past empire, specifically meant to look like an overhead view of an Aztec temple. I made sure to keep their green shirt, white shorts, red socks look emulating the national flag. The away kit takes symbolism from their newly rebranded logo and runs with it creating an asymmetrical look. Comments are always appreciate, thanks for the likes on the previous posts. Saudi Arabia is up next tomorrow.
  23. Argentina. Sky blue and white stripes. Black shorts. White socks. Say no more. I had to keep the home kit simple, but added the sun from their flag behind the numbers. Both kits are meant to honour Argentinean legend Diego Maradona as this is their first World Cup after his passing and the 1986 champion squad that he lead to eternal glory. The away kit is a twist on the blue on blue stripes worn by Maradona that World Cup including when he scored two of the most famous/infamous goals in soccer history against England. It features ten blue stripes honouring their number 10 one last time, while also honouring Messi in his potential last world cup. The look is modernized with five additional thin white stripes, one for each of Diego's goals in that impressive 86 performance. Let me know what you guys think! While it is fun being super creative with some of these I enjoy the challenge of reeling it in and sticking to tradition in situations like this just as much.
  24. Thanks for the comments so far guys, especially when working with national symbols it can get tricky, I look forward to looking back and editing these with some new perspectives. Meanwhile, Wales completes the controversy filled Group B with plenty of non sporting related storylines. With a symbol as unique and fierce as a dragon it felt almost too obvious to build two kits around that inspiration. Striping based off of the red dragon's scales are found on both kits sleeves plus a large centre stripe on the away kit while the mighty wings are found adoring the players chest on the home. Group C begins tomorrow with a classic Argentina kit honouring a legend.
