You have to rotate so they wear white jerseys in the playoffs every other season.
Sure. Why not lol. Whiteouts are cool. Is that what they do in the AHL?

God I wish there was a way to get so much backlash that the league would retract this deal, but it’s the NHL so they will revert back to the Versus network instead
They don't care. They didn't care about the sponsor patch backlash either
Let's face it, people will complain for a few days and completely forget about it. We're the only ones on this forum that are gonna be complaining for a decade lmao

The simplest solution to this debate is to simply imitate the AHL. Wear white at home for the first half of the season, color at home for the second half and playoffs
There, everybody's happy, even the equipment managers. Win/win/win/more win situation
It would also encourage teams to bring back white alternates. We haven't seen too many of those in recent years. My Habs could finally wear the 1945 jerseys again (reverse version of home jerseys with the chest stripe)

They don't HAVE to have a patch. Plenty of teams choose not to wear one. They can support tribes and cancer research and all those noble causes without polluting the front of the jersey with ugly patches in mismatching colors
That's what warmup jerseys are for

Took me all day, actually.
Anyway, in a desperate attempt to redirect this thread back to off-the-ice NHL silliness instead of soccer and political dick-whipping, TV ratings apparently stink:
Reply guys who (presumably) have a better feel for the league than I do say it's because of streaming hassles and the NHL boning their scheduling format this season. There's an Athletic article that sounds promising but I'm not subscribed.
Wow it's almost as if the constant barrage of ads make the game nearly unwatchable
Especially the glitchy digital ads on the boards and the disgraceful jersey sponsor patches. If there's any justice in this world, the greedy bastards who came up with these ideas will suffer from having ingrown nails for the rest of their life

The problem with the Rams is that they didn't incorporate bone into any elements of the brand other than the away jersey. They also made the mistake of having pure white design elements on an off-white jersey, which just makes it look even dingier. I think if you have a full uniform set that uses vintage white instead of actual white it can work. I really loved the old Quebec Remparts set, which was based on the old Wild alternate, although they used black helmets with both uniforms.
Well if it were up to me they'd remove all the black from their logo/helmets.
Yup, the Remparts look good... for a junior team wearing a recolored Wild template. The standards should be higher for NHL teams
On 2/4/2023 at 3:16 PM, DTConcepts said:The Sabres, I can live with that. Maybe because it's royal blue and the jersey is far from drab despite the vintage white or maybe because it's a one-off game, and it's outdoors, par for the course. The Blues in 2022 also get a pass for the same reasons.
The navy blue Rangers helmets look terrible and stick out like a sore thumb. Excellent example of a dark helmet completely ruining the whole uniform and looking bush league when paired with a light jersey. In fact, hot take maybe, but that whole uniform is ass. They don't even look like the Rangers
The Sens also looked like a CHL team with those vintage white =0= jerseys with the black helmets

Screw you, son. Vintage white jersey rocks just as well as regular white jersey. I'm a sucker for them.
Vintage white is a meme, and a trend that's overstayed its welcome and stay polite, old man lol
Besides, I'm not saying you can't have a home jersey with vintage white on it, if it's just a trim color it looks alright. I'm just saying the away jersey has to be pure white or you end up in the same situation as the Rams when they wear bone and it just looks like a dingy white uniform that's never been washed
@seasaltvanilla demonstrated a few replies earlier why cream helmets don't work. It looks absolutely disgusting and just looking at it makes me feel ill
So the only other option is a dark helmet and it looks amateurish

Oh hell, just saw that @StevenGrant94 pretty much got it covered lol.
Vintage white helmets
This is why vintage white away uniforms will never work
It would just remind me of dingy old appliances yellowed by years of grease and cigarette smoke. No thanks
And pairing dark helmets with light jerseys is also a bush league move, they'd just look like a low budget minor hockey team that can't afford two sets of helmets

I enjoy the 2023 NHL All-Star jerseys. Brings back some good memories of growing up and, being able to see them again.
The icing on the cake would be if the teams kept their current glove colors of their current team. I loved that subtle detail of being able to pinpoint a player on the ice based on the team colors of the gloves they wore. That and the shells that were often too short ahah
It was a simpler time but I absolutely agree, the team gloves need to make a glorious comeback
Or maybe even let the manufacturers feel free come up with weird, one off stuff like that
Player gear in general has become very boring in the last decade. Thank god for Russian players lol

Why do I feel like we're all gonna be hugely disappointed by Philly? I feel like they're gonna try way too hard and end up missing the mark by a mile when they only had to fix the shade of orange, drop the stupid contrasting nameplates, hollow captain letters and revert back to solid black gloves to have a 10/10 uniform

It reminds me of what the Sens just did with their primaries. Went back to the logo everyone wanted, but changed the rest of the design so now its just a sub par version of the original. I don't hate it... I just wish it was the original skate jersey.
I've always liked the idea (in theory at least) of bringing back an old jersey and fixing a few minor details or quirks to make it less dated but teams obviously can't be trusted with that
Like Pittsburgh for example, their 80s set with the 12 different striping patterns should have been fixed before being brought back as full time jerseys imo. If they had brought it back as a pure 80s throwback to be worn a handful of times then I can live with the dated quirks for accuracy's sake but that's not the case.
The only teams that have done it right off the top of my head are Buffalo (both the current home/away set and Goathead alternate were updated/modernized tastefully) and Arizona (the original collars looked ridiculous and were almost turtlenecks but they had the good sense to leave everything else alone). There are probably more examples but more often than not, the general rule of thumb if you're bringing back an old beloved uniform is to leave it UNTOUCHED! Half assing things to please everyone ends up never really pleasing anyone at all

Looks like it's the 85-89 version
I'd say it looks more like a recoloured version of their last alternate, roughly inspired by their 1970 jerseys I'm guessing?

Eh, I'd say that goes to the Bolts/Habs series, personally. If that wasn't part of a back-to-back, I doubt most people would even remember it.
It will always be remembered for the immense butthurt it caused to the Leafs fanbase, at the very least lmao
And then the fact that the Habs finished dead last the year after that. Boring, sure. Forgettable? I don't think so
But I can see how people who haven't followed the Habs on their whole playoffs run and only watched the Finals where most of the team and especially Price, Weber and Byron were barely hanging by a thread and pretty much ended their own careers by playing through serious injuries might find the Final series a bit underwhelming. Regardless. No team was beating Tampa that year. The Golden Knights wouldn't have given hockey fans a better show, it would have been over just as quick
Or maybe I'm just incredibly biased lol

It feels wrong cause it's the Devils but in a vacuum it's a gorgeous hockey uniform, even the pants and gloves look great
Red/white/blue/athletic gold is a very underutilized and underappreciated colour scheme in pro sports imo. In fact, I love most variations of the RWB+unusual trim colour combos (silver, lime green/volt, baby blue), but this is probably the best and safest bet

It was better before. I struggle to put it into words but with the greenish seafoam tint, it looked like a charming, old timey quirk, now it just looks unintentionally mismatched and stupid. If they wanted to correct the mismatch, why not go with a true silver instead of another different shade of silver/blue?
It gives them a completely different feel, they don't even look like the Cowboys to me anymore. Imagine if the Packers went from athletic gold to Sol. It just feels off

I'm glad to see I'm not the only gear nerd on here lol. Those gloves are some of the best ever worn by an NHL team. Up there with the Rangers and Mighty Ducks imo
Too bad it's a detail most teams overlook when designing a uniform, but it can make or break it

Mfers looked at a plastic beer can ring and figured "yes, this is it. this is the optimal cage design" lmao

Different sport, but what about yellow accessories for the Braves and red accessories for the White Sox?
I think the yellow accessories work with the Braves since there is yellow in the axe, although Acuna wears way too much yellow. If he kept it to just batting gloves and arm bands than it'd be better, the cleats and arm sleeve is overboard. I do not like the red accessories with for the White Sox though.
Couldn't find answers on google, how come White Sox players can get away with wearing red gear? Is it because they were a RWB team at some point?

Out of all the RR uniforms we've seen in action so far, the Caps' is hands down my favourite

not going with blue pants and white helmets is a braindead decision. hell, i don't even think blue helmets and blue pants would look terrible. I think it works fairly well when team USA uses it on occasion
pittsburgh looks good in a vacuum but looks almost identical to boston at a tv angle. pointed yoke looks nice, but I think i prefer the black script jersey. BUT IT NEEDS ROBOPEN ON THE SHOULDERS
If Buffalo had reversed their white jersey instead of the black one and recoloured the yokes in blue, the blue helmet might have made more sense!
Braindead really sums it up nicely. Such a wasted opportunity, with a few tweaks it could have been a top 5 RR imo

Now that you mention it, it's weird that the Panthers could pull off the triangular yoke just fine but not Pittsburgh. Which means you can't even blame it on the template or cut of the jersey. And I do agree that solid black gear would have looked better
The more I look at the picture you posted, the more I'm convinced this is the best look the Penguins have ever had. Or maybe it's just the player you chose ahaha

It COULD have looked good with blue pants and white helmets. Now it just looks stupid. There's absolutely NO logical reason for the blue helmet if they're going for a "#WHITEOUT " type of uniform
These, on the other hand were executed (EDIT: almost) perfectly and look better than their regular home jerseys

If I were in charge of the Red Wings, they'd switch to the top logo. The inverted version looks so much better imo.
Or at the very least I'd find a way to use both
