Ugh. Colorado going with the State inspired look. I get it’s the Rockies colors but I’m so over the state flag dress up.
Better than them dressing up as a northern team from another country with a French name and fleur de lys on the jersey
This never made any sense. The Rockies had nice jerseys, I can't wait to see that RR!

I dunno, it's not like the Hurricanes original logo was masterpiece or anything lol. The Buffaslug replaced two very decent/beloved logos
How come nobody's posted this one yet?
Apparently the new alternate. Guy Fieri sublimated flames, Primegreen tag, no RR tag

I can't get enough of that Sharks script, but pace Youppi!, Expos Dress-Up feels like a promotion better suited for Clubfoot than the Habs.
Nah they already stole Youppi from the Expos this is totally on brand lol

Man, I feel you. About the ONLY thing I like about early-aughts fashion is the emphasis on metallic colors and fabrics.
Same! I liked when teams used shimmer fabric and sparkly tackle twill on the name and numbers. Those aren't so common now
1 hour ago, MCM0313 said:For what it’s worth, adding side panels was already a thing then, as the 1997 Broncos and 2000 Rams updates demonstrate.
True. They just took it several steps further by the mid-late-00s when Reebok took over the NHL, or when the Falcons and Cardinals changed their jerseys. The Sixers and T-Wolves jerseys posted earlier are also very good examples of the piping and randomly shaped side panel madness

And there you have it; "more orange in Anaheim". A white and orange version of the classic Mighty Ducks jersey seems like a safe bet.
Nobody asked for this. Everybody wants eggplant and jade and all they keep giving us is orange and black. They don't have any awareness or common sense and they don't care what their fans want. Yes, I'm mad

Carolina should've never chosen red and black as their colors from Day 1. I don't know why they did (something about NC State?) but they had an opportunity to be different and create a standout identity.
The color diversity in the NHL is too small.
Agreed but at the same time, even though they were red and black, they didn't look like any other red and black team because of the red gear

Yeah this ugly mix of piping and random panels is what I had in mind when I said I was scared of a Y2K resurgence ahah. To be fair, it's not quite Y2K, though. The real, overbearing and universal turn-of-the-millennium trend was the darkening of pre-existing colour schemes. The piping nonsense came a few years later

Yeah this is what I was referring to. I guess I was a bit off topic and that it doesn't really apply to the NBA, sorry lol

I don't know if it's just me, but this 90's nostalgia is starting to get kinda old.
Just you
It's the 80s nostalgia that is getting old lol

Honestly, I think the Canes going black at home is fine; there's a lot more teams that go red at home (Calgary, Chicago, Detroit, Florida, New Jersey, Montréal, Washington) than black at home (which is really just LA and Ottawa). Making themselves more distinct from the crowd is a good branding decision.
No other team was red from top to bottom while having black as a secondary colour. There's already another all black team with red trim in Ottawa. This move does NOT make them stand out from the crowd, quite the opposite
And only 2 teams wear black at home? You sure? lol

The leaked RR jersey looked to be navy. The new pants are in the regular colours.
Gotcha, I forgot that the RR was navy and vintage white. This is worrying lol

What a mess. It's been downgrade after downgrade after downgrade for this team. They got it right the first time, they should have just left those alone
They wouldn't even look slightly dated

A while ago, I made a post about the possibility that the Canucks might be dropping the stripes from their pants because their prospects wore pants that did not have them. Turned out that the Abbottsford Canucks didn't have stripes on their pants, so maybe that was the reason. Fast forward to today and a couple of new players who definitely won't be starting the season in the minors, were in the new Canucks' gear and had pants that didn't have the stripes. They were different from the ones worn with the alternates because the manufacturer's mark was on the side instead of the front. I would say it's a bit of a mistake to lose the stripes if that's what is actually going to happen.
Maybe the stripeless pants could simply be worn with the new RR? But agreed, if they lose the stripes with the regular set, that would be a huge downgrade

I actually didn't mind this Flyers' look. I think if they had gone with an orange version at home instead of sticking with black, they would've been received a lot better. They really need to go back to the single layer black letters for the captains instead of the white outlined in black on a white outline.
Right, I keep forgetting these jerseys ever existed! I actually even liked the black one. I'm not a fan at all of their current/70s look. The contrasting nameplate is the worst gimmick ever, the hollow numbers and captain letters look awful, the shade of orange is eye searing and even the socks could use some black stripes on them. Some teams get it right the first time, other teams like the Flyers get it right once they tweak around a bit. Those 80s/90s/00s jerseys were perfect, especially with the black alternate in the rotation.
Those Flyers Edge jerseys, like the Blues ones I posted above, were terrible on paper but looked alright in action. Or maybe we're just being nostalgic and they were terrible all along ahah

I meant in comparison to the Capitals uniform. I'm sure they would have fixed the Edge mistakes in later years and have a great uniform today... unless they did a fauxback or something like the Panthers.
Ah I see. Then again, the Caps themselves still haven't fixed their Edge mistakes lol. Can't take anything for granted
Speaking of unpopular opinions, this is my favorite Edge monstrosity. I'm not sure if this is an unpopular opinion or not, but I can't be the only one since finding one of those jerseys is damn near impossible these days
Something about the piping works here. Not sure why. Maybe the loose connection to the arch of St Louis, but imo the Blues are the only team that got Edge-ified and still looked decent. Or maybe I'm biased because Paul Kariya was my favourite player?

Now THAT'S an unpopular opinion lol. But nah, the side piping sucks. The waist stripe on the pre-Edge version with the small arrows/beaks looked much better

Shockingly Brian Burke's marketing decision aged like ice on the equator lol
If they never wanted to bring back the Mighty Ducks identity, then they should have just stuck with the Cup jerseys. They were a bit bland but at least they weren't offensively bad!

As terrible as I thought their current identity was, these are actually beautiful.
The colours have actually grown on me a lot. I've never been to Anaheim or Orange County but to me their colour scheme has a really nice Californian sunset feel to it, at least as an outsider lol. Even the Cup jerseys have grown on me, the black one especially. But the duck foot kinda sucks as a logo and their current jersey is an outdated mess. The old gold also needs to be metallic and not beige, but that colour scheme is definitely salvageable
I still want them to bring back eggplant and jade though. And so do 99% of their fans on social media whenever an old picture from the Mighty era is posted, as you can plainly see in the comment section

Not sure why any of these would be designed with black ice instead of white ice.
Yeah me neither ahah. It was surprisingly hard to find an eggplant Wild Wing concept so I chose this one anyway
I think the artist was just trying to find a way to connect it with the current black-heavy colour scheme. The concept was done when the RR program was just a rumour so maybe he didn't quite understand the idea yet
I find the black based jerseys at the bottom incredible, though. I'd buy one for sure!

Please no. They have at least a half dozen better options
OG white jerseys with jade and eggplant reversed (jade pants!)
1st movie jersey in eggplant and jade
Late 90s alternates in eggplant
Original jerseys in black, orange and gold
Wild Wing in eggplant, crappy concept but gives you a rough idea
Script jerseys with eggplant base and thick jade stripe
OG jerseys in jade
Of course I can't take credit for any of these concepts

Come now, 37 is a bad number. It’s like you showed up for intramurals, they passed around the laundry bag of jersey vests, and you ended up with the last vest, which was 37.For a forward or defenseman? Sure, no argument here! For a goalie, anything in the 30s (except 38!) looks good imo. Standards are different for a goalie. 1, 29-37, 39-41 all look good and I'll even give 60 a pass. Everything else is garbage lmao
But like I said, this is highly subjective and I'm not trying to convince anyone cause I know I'm weird when it comes to numbers

87, 71, 97, 91, 37, 68
I know this is HIGHLY subjective, but 68 is the only truly bad number in there lol
By bad I mean 62, 63, 75, 78. Anything in the 90s can't be bad by default since the digit 9 looks so good. But I'm not gonna try and convince you, I've always been weird with numbers so maybe that's just me!
I don't know about Price. He's 1st in wins... but also 1st in losses. 3rd in shutouts, but first in modern era. He's won a few individual trophies but no Cup. I have no idea if his numbers are good enough for the HoF. But like you said, the Habs have different standards, I feel like if they retire the number of a player who hasn't won a Cup then it means they've set the bar lower and the floodgates open. Where does it end? Markov? Plekanec? Koivu? Noooooope

2022-2023 NHL Jersey Changes

This could mean nothing, but Zegras is wearing the alternate jersey on the cover of the NHL23 game. Unless I'm mistaken, it only happened once before where the player was not wearing a jersey from the regular home & away set, it was Toews wearing the '09 WC jerseys on the cover of NHL11, but it feels different this time. Or maybe I'm just wishful thinking!
