  1. This has been a thoughtful and unencumbered re-think, and for that I am grateful.

Happy: Clean and cohesive. A good balance of retaining historical elements and cleaning up assets.

Sad: Cream is barely distinguishable from white. The darkening of the navy (I didn't think you could GET darker than 289 without just being black. The league doesn't really need another Tigers/Yankees dark navy team). M-Star cap is rather forgettable.

Nah. Kansas City has different home and road uniforms, along with the Yankees, Mets, Tigers, Guardians, White Sox, Cubs, Giants, Rangers, Reds, and Pirates

    True, true.

I'll downgrade my complaint to "minor nitpick". I'm very glad the gold is going away, the TC got cleaned up, there's no clutter, and future unis will have a new style guide to draw from.

    Still... different sleeve striping?

There must be one guy on the team doing these that's into sports logo design. It seems like one out of every four, roughly, are ones that look like legitimate sports logos.

Agree. Maybe i'm just in a crabby old man mood, but every time there's a team reveal, all I can think is that 2 brands are being eroded simultaneously.

  4. I'm prognosticating that in 5 or 10 years, the NBA is going to resemble the Premiere League or La Liga: 2 or 3 new "kits" every year, in fancy textures, fabrics, patterns and colors. They'll be called "earned",  "city", "throwback", "hardcourt", "retro", "celebration", "legend" or whatever the heck else you can dream of.

Sell a million of each.  What about the team's brand, you ask? Nah. Don't worry about it. Fancy new duds!

It's a financial model that could possibly work for the NBA. It's just going to be WAY too much for a guy like me to want to pay attention to on a daily basis.

Probably a loose fit but a new "updated" mascot may be on the way for Nebraska. Would imagine it might encompass some new logos as well. As someone who think we live in the past a bit too much... eh I'll wait to see what it looks like. I do know there is a strong fondness for the old Herbie here.

I've come out of hibernation thanks to the news of the Twins updating their uniforms. I'm excited, yet nervous. What I would like to see, as others have mentioned, is a refresh of the past, akin to the Blue Jays or Padres. I hope to god the Kasota Gold is gone. I didn't like it in 2015, don't like it now.

I believe that they will use the updated cursive wordmark that they've been using on Social Media for the past two years. It really looks good and would be a fine basis for the refresh. Here's some tweets showcasing it.

The Social Media posts since 2020 have primarily used this wordmark, along with brighter shades of Blue and Red as seen in the tweets. Of course, the TC logo is used heavily too, but the 1987-2012 "M" logo  has been used quite heavily as well, being featured in every starting lineup post this year for Away games. This is just speculation, but it could be hinting towards a return of an M logo. Whether it's the same one or a different one remains to be seen. From what I can tell, living in MN and being in Twins circles online, while the TC logo is the most popular and a superior logo (imo,) the M logo is popular amongst hardcore circles. Lots of people wear it, but not anywhere near as much as the TC though.

Here's what I want to see, as a lifelong fan of the team:

    • Primaries
      • Home White (Cream)
        • Social Media "Twins" wordmark, Navy outlined in Red.
        • Pinstripes.
        • Minnie & Paul State patch on the sleeve.
        • Standard Navy TC cap.
      • Away Grey
        • Red/Navy/Red piping on the neckline/sleeve cuffs/pants, similar to the 2010-2022 Away uniform
        • Hypothetical "Minnesota" word mark similar to the Social Media "Twins" wordmark, Navy outlined in Red.
        • Minnie & Paul State patch on the sleeve.
        • Standard Navy TC cap.
    • Alternates
      • Navy Jersey.
        • Red/White/Red piping on the neckline/sleeve cuffs.
        • Minnie & Paul State patch on the sleeve.
        • Social Media "Twins" wordmark, White outlined in Red.
        • Standard Navy TC cap. Optional Red TC cap also available ONLY for Alternate.
      • Throwback

I tried to limit the amount of logos, patches, and jerseys compared to what we currently have. We have five different logos, three different wordmarks, three caps, and SIX different jerseys at the moment. No more inconsistencies from Uniform to Uniform, just a straightforward design. Only two wordmarks, "Twins" and "Minnesota," and two logos, the iconic TC and a updated Minnie & Paul logo with an updated Wordmark. Besides the World Series era throwback, my idea has one sleeve patch for all the uniforms, primarily wearing just one cap, and more consistent piping/wordmark coloring, with all of them following a Red/Other Color/Red pattern.

    Thank you for this summary.

I think your uniform strategy is perfect.

I'm most jazzed to see if they can make a 21st century "handshake logo" to restore the team's unique personality. All the logos with script marks and stitched baseballs and pinstripes and roundels are just so boringly TRYHARD. Bring back the handshake!

  7. I'm seeing more and more ads superimposed on the glass and boards. We're all in favor of leaving the uniforms as clean as can be. I'm also here to defend the ice surface. I'd rather see a small jersey patch, and ads covering every single inch of plexiglass, than see a giant bank logo covering half of the neutral zone.

No one here is nostalgic for the half- drunk fan in the first row, wearing the jersey of a retired player, beer in one hand, and slapping the glass with the other hand, right?

The red one and the yellow one aren’t all that bad really. The rest can be burned in a dumpster.

I love that these "concepts" are just re-colorizations of the same, crappy logo they've used forever. Any chance they fix the screaming, glaring issue they've had for decades? That the helmet doesn't include any of their secondary color (gold), but DOES include a color not seen anywhere else in the uniform (black)?

  9. At this point, I don't mind if I dislike a helmet. I can live with it, if it is staying within the brand.

The Bears are navy and orange. I'm willing to accept that new orange shell–it's in the family. The Eagles entire identity (aside from the wings on the helmet) is a dark bag of crap, but at least they have established that they own black. The Saints own black. The Cardinals own black. The Panthers are more black than teal.

But, WTF are the Jets doing? An alt black uni since only 2019? Sorry, you don't qualify. And why copy the Eagles..again?

P.S. The action plan for fixing the Cardinals is simple: keep the logo and blow everything else up. I'm ok with the flecked helmet.

  10. Looking at the Eagles and Jets, I feel like I’ve time warped back to the 90s. Are these 2 teams playing a game of chicken which only ends when one team is wearing nothing but black?

The Kelly green Eagles can’t come back fast enough.

This. This is how the Oilers should look. You can make the argument for navy and orange looking better objectively (Tbf I do think their away jersey was beautiful) or navy and copper fitting the name better. It doesn’t matter. None of it matters. These jerseys are the Oilers. When I think of the Oilers, I think of these jerseys. If you want to throw in an orange alt or a navy alt or do whatever with the third jersey, be my frickin’ guest. But for the love of all that is good on this earth please just keep these as the primaries from now on.

Yes. Why I started the “forever done” thread. The Oilers have been encrusted with an inevitability.

Like the colors and vibe. But the hats are a disappointment, Nike mailed it in there. Basically a colorway. A Swingin Friar colorway could’ve worked as a hat logo switch up from the interlocking SD.

My thoughts exactly. Put the friar on the hat and the SD on the sleeve. It may not be the prettiest CC, but they sure did all of their homework.
2022 has seen a pretty good crop of City Connect JERSEYs, but the hats… Oof. Disappointing.

  13. In case anyone cares what a casual observer thinks...

    1. I have read all of this exchange
    2. I hate when colors vibrate
    3. I have always been annoyed by the 2 dull colors the Avs use
    4. Removing black has been more helpful than harmful
    5. The lighter, shinier blue numbers the team uses should be the template for them fixing their color issues
    6. Unless my eyes are broken, THERE IS NO VIBRATION HERE. Just 2 dull colors that don't look great next to one another
    7. Have a good one.
