    That's what I thought. It's also why I said "take this with a grain of salt." Maybe I should have used a bigger font and put it in bold.

    Yeah- I was more questioning him than you, but I thought maybe someone had heard something that could address it.

    Here’s to hoping for blue

    But it's last year's alternate that is theoretically being modified with a new mask. That helmet was blue with the old logo on it, not this helmet.

    Take this with a grain of salt...

    Why would they need special dispensation to wear an orange facemask??

    OH :censored:! Just leave the Ravens and Packers alone. I know damn well the ones I bold will have lack luster alternate helmets.

    Imagine, Jaguars go with teal helmets which to me will look horrendous in many aspects if they use the chrome type of shell that the Giants and Rams defaults are as well as the red alt helmet of the Texans. But if they use flat, then that if fine with me. But that is not the case.

    Vikings only need their 1969-1995 throwbacks or their 1961-1967 throwbacks, not some hideous alt that is probably going to be white in this case the stupidest looking idea they could come up with.

    Packers should go back to the navy blue and athletic gold throwback but with grey facemask. Their 1940 throwback is in my opinion the better ones ever. My opinion may be unpopular with the Packers throwbacks, but I prefer the 1940 ones better.

    I am afraid of what they have in plan for the Giants. This scares me a lot!

    I don't think  the Packers can change their alternate uniform yet, so I'm betting it will be a literal gold helmet with a single green stripe.

    2024 Helmet updates-

    New Primary Helmet

    * Browns (likely white facemask)

    * Jets

    * Broncos

    * Lions

    * Texans (image leaked of new uniforms showed a metallic/sparkle blue helmet rather than the flat blue they used to use)

    New Alternate Helmet

    * Jaguars

    * Ravens

    * Vikings

    * Giants

    * Packers

    * Jets

    * Lions

    * Texans

    * Broncos

    Let the guessing games begin!!

    The Lions article just posted seems to say that last year's alt helmet will still be used with their new alt uniform.

    The multiple pants options part at least means it won't be an Arizona Cardinals full-time mono situation. Let's just hope pants options refers to pants with stripes...

    And yeah, players' opinions mean nothing. No player is gonna say their team's new uniforms suck. And most of the time they like them anyway because they're ICCCYYYY

    No it doesn't. The Arizona Cardinals also have multiple pants options. White pants to wear with the white jersey; red pants to wear with the red jersey; and black pants to wear with the black jersey.

    Ohtani statement was exactly what I’ve been saying. Ippei hacked his bank account and lied to Shohei’s reps while in Korea, Shohei didn’t personally pay off anyone and doesn’t gamble.  Let’s move on.

    Has there ever been a criminal who held a press conference to declare his guilt?

    I'm not saying he's guilty, but this doesn't prove anything.

    They're called "TV numbers", not "Section 53 numbers".  They help when watching the broadcast (before all the different camera angles and HD) and they helped identify players in still photographs like in newspapers, SI, etc.  But now that most media is moving videos or gifs, they're just to that important.

    If anything, putting numbers on the helmet bumpers would solve a lot of "problems" that may or may not actually exist.

    Or F it - we have the technology to have a hologram of the number floating above the player's head so you can easily tell who's running down he field, or which fat F on the line just got pancaked.

    Sorry (not sorry) I've upset the Vet.

    Let me try to spell this out -- I use TV numbers when I watch football. Any time (almost) that someone claims that nobody uses them, or that nobody sees them in the stands, I'll point out that they are, in fact, used and seen.

    Are they "just to that important" [sic]? Maybe. Your facetious remark about the hologram reminds me of John Madden earnestly reminding everyone that the players can't see that first down line when it debuted. You know that, and you know that we wouldn't see it in the stands.

    The broadcast booth is watching the game on a screen simultaneously. They do not need TV numbers

    And as a college football fan, I have never had trouble identifying players from the stands without TV numbers

    They're watching the game, often with binoculars. Their spotter is certainly watching it that way, and it's his job to provide the number of the tackler, among other things. Whether or not the feed is in real time is also subject to the various setups.

    From up in Row 53, I frequently use the tv numbers. To each his own.

    1.  Much less space on modern football jerseys.

    2.  We’re all watching on 65” HDTVs.

    Not from the stands we aren't, nor from the broadcast booth.

    The swoosh is above the horn, not in it

    I don't think there's been a clear view that shows this. The 'game action' is an estimate of what they look like. I see red in the sleeve horn, and that would fit Nike's MO for how they handle the swoosh.

    Absolute upgrade.   I actually really like the number font.  Disappointing if that’s the same Houston wordmark though.  Also worried about how thick that Red stripe is….wait & see.

    Also love how the numbers are done.  They’re not fully perforated and the Red trim looks glossy.

    Can’t wait to see more.  Only scary thing now is the claim that each uniform will be a different design…let’s hope they tie together somewhat.

    As pointed out upthread, I'm worried about two 'big' numbers on a jersey. They won't be perfectly posed like these are.

    I believe there was a rule saying that you could keep your number from a prior position if you played that position for 3 years or something but I don't know at the point

    No such rule regarding a length of time.

    Cordelle Patterson is technically a WR, he just plays all the positions asked of him.

    Ty Montgomery began his career as a WR, and was allowed to keep that number.

    Ah, I glanced over that but it didn't register fully, i think there even was a reference to 3rd and goal? Are indoor fields 55 yards? 50?

    Not great, but I wonder how much it'd cost to reconfigure an existing football app/scirebug/scorecard for that, or if any of the other leagues have/had it.

    50 yards. If the league is generating their own stats page, their coding should have set up the field to be the right length.

    I think we're going to need a "pointless numbering system outpost" thread to go along with the "pointless realignment outpost".

    You're not wrong, but much of what we do here is pointless.

    I'm not against change in general, but I'm a proponent of continuity.   I think change and continuity can exist at the same time.

    Throughout modern NFL history, 7 and 12 have been like the QB numbers, much like 1 and 30-35 were the goalie numbers.

    There's obviously HOF QBs that didn't wear 7 or 12 (Montana, Manning, et al), but 7 and 12 were still magic (and not Magic Majkowski).  Just like there were always a couple of goalies (Hextall with 27 for example) that were outside of that tradition, but the point still stands.

    Hockey numbers really started changing once the Russians and other Europeans started entering the league, and admittedly after the shock of seeing 68, 91, etc. wore off, it's no big deal now, but there's really no reason for the NFL to make it hard-to-impossible for new QBs to wear the numbers of legends, and to try and extend the history of success that comes along with those numbers.

    +1 for spelling the name right. BTW - laughing at that, not your post. I agree with your post.

    The UFL will have to vet any prospective owners.  Example, if they decide to sell the Michigan Panthers and there are two prospective ownership groups and one of them has a background in Crypto and the other group is a group of investors that includes Dan Gilbert and Tom Gores, take the Gilbert/Gores group.  Not vetting owners is what is currently killing the indoor version of the game.

    The indoor game doesn't care to vet owners. It's merely the promise of money that keeps it afloat.

    I find these funny. It's as if it is supposed to trigger me as a Caucasian. It doesn't matter to me, which is entirely unrelated to how other people react to being depicted as a logo. I understand not wanting to be a logo, but this seems like a waste of time.

    What the hell does AFL games and select matchups from this season mean?? [Department of Redundancy Department]

    Aha - bad cut and past by the AFL. Here's what they meant to say:
