Great work! I agree with @NicDB that the script "L" doesn't really fit the style of the "V" or cap "A." A blackletter "L" would be more appropriate:

Wouldn't have to be this exact one, but something resembling it.

Oh yeah, I did a ton of versions that had more blackletter style infusion. But looking at the O in their Oakland script, that didn't have much blackletter influence. It's also tough because the capital A, while technically blackletter, doesn't look nearly as blackletter as something like a capital L. If you go full blackletter on that L, you run the risk of the A's starting to look more like the White Sox. So, in the end I kept it more in line with what they were doing on the Oakland script and simplified it.

Definitely something tough for the team at Nike to solve if they give them a road jersey script!

  2. Hey! Been a while. The A's supposedly moving to Las Vegas got me thinking, then that got me tinkering, and then that blew up into a whole big thing like I'm prone to do. Enjoy!

  3. It seems to me the guy selling the jerseys in that email exchange made the more logical point -- the jerseys are coming from the same factories and using the same materials, the only difference is the extreme markup the league puts on the merchandise.

Dude, no. 1,000 times no. The materials are barely even close. And while the sweatshops that make real and fake jerseys are probably similar, you can be sure that no fake jerseys are made in the same exact places that produce jerseys for Majestic and Reebok. This is just as silly as the one guy who said "I think the factory just made too many so they sold a few on the side."

The jersey I purchased sure is made from the same materials and is of the same quality as the markups found on NFL.com. Have you ever compared a "fake" and an "authentic" up close and in person or are you just assuming they're different? Do you know where "fakes" are manufactured and where "authentics" are produced or are you just assuming they're different? If you answered "yes" to both those questions, then I applaud you, but that still doesn't explain why I was able to purchase a remarkably authentic counterfeit jersey.

I agree there are many laughable counterfeit jerseys out there, but there do exist quality jerseys that can be purchased for considerably less than their American-sold counterparts.

  4. Looks like it was cut out and sewn by hand.

You guys don't suppose the name and number appear wavy, not because it was "cut out and sewn by hand", but because of the folds and wave of the jersey hanging on the mannequin?

BTW, here's a damn good read about a fake jersey situation. The guy who's defending the fakes sounds exactly like the people on here defending them as well.

  5. With that said, I was lucky enough to have won some money on a game show, and have decided that for the first time in my life I will be purchasing an MLB authentic jersey. I had no idea prices were so high now a days for a Cool Base jersey, I guess I hadn't looked at a price tag that closely in a few years, and was wondering if anyone here could recommend a good place to pick up a perfectly authentic jersey for a good price. The cheapest authentic retailer I've found so far is Jersey Joe.com, with a customizable Cool Base for $229.99 -- is there anywhere cheaper or am I about at that limit?

SportsK has it for cheaper. That is the easily the best site for officially licensed hockey and baseball jerseys.

Their website doesn't look that great, but it says at the bottom the jerseys are made by Majestic and that's exactly what I'm looking for, thanks!

I would recommend Sportsk in a heartbeat. Best customer service ever. The products are legit.

I appreciate the recommendations, but I ended up ordering from Jersey-Joe.com. Got a Tulowitzki Colorado Rockies Cool Base black alternate jersey for $205 after shipping and tax -- cheapest I could find anywhere. Plus, they said it's made in the Majestic factory, so that's everything I could have hoped for. I'm incredibly excited to see this thing in person, hope it's worth the crazy price.

  7. What I don't get is that all of these jerseys, be they real or fake, are coming from the same part of the world, correct? Same materials, just different stitchers. Because of that, I don't see the big deal in paying $200 vs. $40 for the exact same jersey. Granted, there are fakes out there that are of horrendous quality and laughable authenticity, but the Chiefs jerseys I have are perfect, and coming from a jersey/logo/design enthusiast like myself I can say that with due diligence, and if I've found a jersey or two that just so happens to have the same materials made to the same specifications and is cheaper, I just don't see the big deal in purchasing one.

The materials are definately not the same. Many times on the counterfit hockey jerseys the logos, names and numbers appear to be of the same material that the logos on a Starter jacket would be. Also, more often than not the fonts are off as well.

Not understanding why it is a big deal is one of the big "gear grinders" that many of us anti-countefitters have.

I understand that many hockey counterfeits are not the same materials as the authentics, but the materials on the specific jerseys I've purchased are in great condition. Like I said, I've washed one throughout the years and it's held up great, while the newer one I purchased this past season looks and feels exactly like the real thing. Again, not all "counterfeits" are not of this high quality, I understand, but simple jersey designs like the Chiefs' are easier to replicate, and replicate well.

All jerseys come from the same part of the world, correct? So who's to say the same materials used to construct my jersey aren't the same used to construct jerseys purchased from the NFL store website?

They do not come from the same part of the world. As PCGD said earlier in the thread, NFL replicas are printed in Indiana. While (most) counterfeits are printed overseas.

I don't think replicas are a part of this conversation, as even the quality straight from the NFL is quite dubious.

Where are the NFL authentics manufactured?

  9. Even though this thread is a mess with arguments, and my opinion won't be appreciated by most, I'll throw my two cents in here, followed by a question at the end:

I've purchased several supposed "counterfeit" jerseys and I'm very happy with the quality I received. I'm a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, and thanks to the timelessly simple jersey design, it's quite easy to find a jersey, on eBay or another placed looked down upon in this forum, that looks and feels just like the real thing. I've washed mine several times over the years and it's held up nicely. Got a new one this year that looks fantastic, Lamar Hunt patch and all.

What I don't get is that all of these jerseys, be they real or fake, are coming from the same part of the world, correct? Same materials, just different stitchers. Because of that, I don't see the big deal in paying $200 vs. $40 for the exact same jersey. However, I will not ever purchase a "counterfeit" MLB jersey, and it comes down to one reason -- quality. Nowhere have I found a good looking Kansas City Royals jersey to purchase that meets the same quality found on the MLB.com store website. I'm lucky that Chiefs jerseys are easy to replicate, so I own several. But I do not own any Royals jerseys, and that's because of the ridiculous price on MLB.com ($200+) and because the authentics are available nowhere else.

I have no customer loyalty, I am just a customer. I will forever and always go with the best product for the lowest price. I think that's the most fair anyone can ask of me. If I'm able to get a perfect quality Chiefs jersey for $40, then you're damn right I'm going to purchase one, and not shed one tear that I'm not paying $200+ to the NFL owners, or whoever it is that gets my money. But the day the NFL lowers their prices, I'll be more than happy to give those same owners my money. I don't care who it's going to, all I want is quality for a reasonable price.
