  1. I disagree with that completely, especially for fans of those teams. I HATED the NY Giants white jerseys with all red numbers/letters/stripes, UNTIL they wore them while winning Super Bowl XLII. Seeing your team wear the uniform while holding a trophy just makes the uni look better, imo.
  2. I know this was a while ago, but for something like this my guess is he thinks you simply create these concepts for fun and your intention is to share them with everyone. I don't use instagram, but for those of you having your stuff stolen. Few questions, are the people stealing this stuff for financial gain? Not making money, just presenting it as their own design? Secondly, are you putting watermarks on your work? Are these people using your stuff with the watermarks or are they able to remove the watermarks?
  3. I know this will make people on here think I am an absolute jerk, but I do not have any problem with knock-off merchandise. I agree with those that say most of them look terrible, but I can fully understand why people do not want to pay the ridiculous prices the official manufacturers are charging.
  4. Then you're not entitled to own a jersey. Sorry, that's life. When you see someone wearing a knock-off, whether it be at a game or on the street, do you go up to them and preach about how they are not entitled to own that jersey? Anyone else on here do that?
  5. No, you are stealing by knowingly purchasing stolen merchandise. And counterfeit jerseys are stolen in that they steal the identity from the teams and manufacturers. It is like buying a bootleg copy of Photoshop for $20 (albeit one which doesn't have all the features and crashes your system periodically). I mean, you wouldn't spend $1,000 to buy the software legitimately, so it isn't like Adobe is losing money, right? The NFL has money taken away from it because it has the right to X amount of dollars for every person wearing an NFL jersey. If you don't want to give them that money, don't wear the jersey. Disagree. Not stealing anything. Want to say the makers and sellers are stealing, I'll agree. I paid my money for an item. Like I said, I am not buying the knock-off instead of the licensed as I would not buy the licensed at their price if I couldn't find a good knock-off I wanted. I made a dead-on comparison which you completely ignored. If you bought a bootleg copy of Photoshop for $20, would it be stealing? Of course, you wouldn't have paid $1,000 for a legit copy, so you could argue you weren't stealing money from Adobe as you wouldn't have given it to them to begin with. Installing pirated software on your computer is a crime and so is knowingly purchasing a counterfeit jersey. I don't use pirated software, but not because of some holier-than-thou ethical idea that you guys are spewing. I do not use it because of the horror stories I have heard of it leading to problems with your computer. Stealing? No, because again you are paying for that copy. The person making the bootlegs and selling is the thief. However, at least the software makers are beginning to protect their own product my requiring people to register their pass keys online. If it were illegal to purchase a counterfeit jersey than why would the NYC Councilwoman have to propose a law to make it illegal to buy counterfeit goods? BECAUSE IT IS NOT ILLEGAL! If it was, there would be no reason to propose the law! If it was already a law, she'd simply have to meet with the DA and Police Commissioner to discuss enforcing this law.
  6. No one has answered my question concerning designers, how many of the current MAJOR sports logos designers are paid royalties on each jersey purchased? I am guessing 0 so I am not hurting the designers in any way. This is not true. Say team A is wiling to pay $50k for a great new logo and uniform design. This is based on their analysis that a new look will spur $1,000,000 in sales in the next year. The new logo is a hit, but the counterfeiters are all over it, so sales of legit licensed gear only net $500,000. This will lead to one of two things - either the team (or the next team in a similar situation) will offer the designer (or firm) $25k for the next package, or the licensees will absorb the cost and offer significantly less next time around. Either way there's less money to pay the designer, which has a trickle down effect on the industry as a whole. It's a shame that most of the strong debaters checked out of this thread ages ago. After reading the last few pages, I'm thinking about ordering some fakes. Not really. then the firm designing the logo needs to negotiate better and say, "No, we want $50K for our services." If the designer is that good, they'll get their money.

  8. But who cares! You're a fan of a team, which means you're entitled to a jersey, right? If I am paying for the item, then yes. Except that you AREN'T paying for it. You decided jerseys were too expensive, so you purchase poorly-reproduced knock-offs instead. These so-called poorly produced knockoffs have lasted longer than the ones I purchased legitimately. They also look great, I would never wear one that looks like the crap posted here. That is what these guys can't comprehend. Noone is saying they all look just as good. Most are terrible. However, you can find knock-offs that look just as good.
  9. But who cares! You're a fan of a team, which means you're entitled to a jersey, right? If I am paying for the item, then yes. Except that you AREN'T paying for it. You decided jerseys were too expensive, so you purchase poorly-reproduced knock-offs instead. Keyword: PURCHASE! I am purchasing the jersey, hence I am not stealing. The NFL's bank account does not have money taken out because I am buying the cheaper jersey. Before you start with "well, they are not making the money.." save it. If all that existed were the licensed jerseys at $100+, $250 for authentics, then I would go without a jersey.
  10. But who cares! You're a fan of a team, which means you're entitled to a jersey, right? If I am paying for the item, then yes.
  11. I am exchanging my money for a jersey, hence I am not stealing. Want to say the manufacturers or distributors are stealing, fine. Consumer is not stealing if they are paying for the jersey. It is not my job to police these companies.
  12. I agree, that one is terrible as are 99% of the Rangers jerseys I see (they can never get the drop shadow or the arch of the names right). However, tell someone the real thing is $300 and the knock-off is $30. Most people are going to say, "For $270, I'll take the fake." They are wearing the jersey to show they are a fan of the team and the fake is communicating the same message. Who's making the money isn't their concern.
  13. Nike and Reebok's major expenses come from the ridiculous licensing fees they agree to pay. Their cost for materials and labor are not much more than the counterfeiters.
  14. I like some of the comments: Posted by: J | Apr 28, 2011 11:25:51 AM The puchase of knock off goods and or pirated goods does not equate to lost sales. I wish people would get this through their skulls. If something is super cheap it's probably too good to be true, if they are selling knock of stuff at originals MSRP then and only then should they be subject to legal action. Also I don't want to see my taxes being spent protectiong some rich foriegn based company's interests, they should be doing it on their own dime. I'm tired of watching governments raiding peoples houses arresting children because a buisiness has asked them to, copy rights should be defended by the owners of the rights not the public services. Posted by: haaronl | Apr 28, 2011 11:44:43 AM The USA has some incredibly stupid ideas when it comes to law making. For all your talk about freedom and justice there is very little fairness or common sense in the laws. Posted by: scott andrews | Apr 28, 2011 12:24:51 PM Well..counterfeit is jsut that..."counterfeit" so if your buying form the street and the vendor is saying that it is real..then what does the consumer know?? they buy it and get busted????this is odd... perhaps the arresting individuasl should ask where did you buy these goods and bring them to the scene of the crime where the proper arrest should be made...not the consumer... Thanks Scott I heard about the councilwoman who proposed this to the city council. Can't see it passing. What are they going to do, post undercover cops near the shops and wait for people to come purchase? Why not just bust the shop owners? Or, will they set up sting operations like when they have a female officer go undercover as a hooker and bust the customers? Seems like a waste of time and resources to me.
  15. I'd like to see how he dances around this one. I still can't comprehend how anybody could justify conterfeits. Still no answer... sorry, shut the computer down before you posed the question. Next time, I will leave the laptop turned on all night so I can answer faster.
  16. That is their perogative. I know people on another board who buy autographs on EBay knowing there is a chance it is a forgery. Risk they take because they are not willing to spend the money for the real thing. Not going to lose sleep over it, eventually I find the people who want to buy from me as they know the player actually signed the item I am selling them. However, you go after the seller and the forger. Not the guy buying the forged autographs. Considering the average person/buyer couldn't spot a forgery if it bit them in the butt, it would be a waste of time. I hardly ever post anything on EBay, not because of the forgeries, but because I know a few sellers who have been burned due to EBay's policies of pretty much always siding with the buyer.
  17. Suuuure. think what you want. My autographs I get in-person and because I am a dealer, I get discounted pricing. Once I sell my inventory, the stuff for my personal collection is free (plus additional cash in my pocket).
  18. How is it possible that you're perfectly willing to pay top dollar for expensive season tickets to the Giants, Rangers, and Mets, as well as buying authentic memorabilia from each team that doesn't come cheap, but you balk at even a $120 jersey? We all have a price we are willing to pay for something. When I buy memorabilia, I do not buy directly from the Giants or NFL. I know how to get that stuff at a discount, and yes it is all legit. I also sell autographed stuff (not big, small scale), so have contacts and the big companies to get discounts.
  19. The premiere are still $120 for a pre-made, $150 if you want a less popular player. Still ridiculous.
  20. Why not? You'd get to see a football game for way cheaper than the NFL. Granted, the games wouldn't be nearly as fun to watch and you'd probably miss your season tickets at Meadowlands Stadium, but that's the NFL's fault for being such meanies and charging high prices for a top-of-the-line product, as opposed to yours for making the personal choice to trade those tickets in for Pop Warner. The nerve of Goodell! In this case I CHOOSE to purchase the tickets I purchase. Secondly, comparing the two is ridiculous. I don't need the exact jersey Justin Tuck is wearing. If Tuck is hurt, I don't think they are going to ask me to fill-in for him just because I have the licensed jersey. The Giants jerseys I have bought on EBay look just as good as the idiots who pay $250+ on nfl.com I'd like to congratulate you for missing the point of this topic more than I thought was humanly possible. If you were here, I would give you a gold star and a Yoohoo. Also, damn those idiots who can afford a quality, licensed product. More reading comprehension problems. I said earlier, I can afford to buy the "quality, licensed product", just choose not to.
  21. Just like you CHOOSE to purchase counterfeit jerseys. That's not Reebok's fault. In your honest opinion, which one looks better and more like the real thing? The left one is an authentic and the one on the right is an average counterfeit. The shiny, bubbly numbers add character. I guess reading comprehension is not one of your strong points. Funny, I would think that is important to get through law school. Look back at my posts. I DID say there are some out there that are bad. I wouldn't buy that Tuck jersey you have pictured. Not going to buy every cheaper jersey on Ebay, but when I look, I have been able to find at least one I would buy.
  22. These clowns are never going to understand a proportionality argument. If you've ever done something that is not legal- no matter the severity- it is EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE WORST CRIME POSSIBLE!!!! It's true. Way back in my first year of law school, I had a crim law exam and the question was something about what to crimes to charge an individual who had spray painted a neighbor's boat. I ignored the given statute and just wrote how I was seeking the death penalty for premeditated murder. And, because ALL ILLEGAL ACTIVITY IS THE SAME, I booked the out of that class. Thinkin' outside the freakin' box. Are you a prosecutor? Would love to come watch you try to get the death penalty for someone accused of jaywalking.
  23. Considering the Giants have owned their logo since the 60's, doubt anyone is making royalties at this point. Same for the Rangers, but their logo is even older. Besides, if someone is, I still buy t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats that are licensed. Not paying their prices for a jersey, whether the discounted jersey on EBay exists or not. Hence, not really hindering their livelihood or royalties. Concerned more about my own pocket. Ever go to a car dealer and negotiate a better price? I guess you shouldn't do that because you are putting the livelihood of the salesman and dealership owner in danger.
  24. Why not? You'd get to see a football game for way cheaper than the NFL. 25. How is it putting the livelihood of the designer in danger? They are getting paid for creating the logo/jersey. If the knock-off jersey didn't exist, I still wouldn't pay $250 for a jersey. I'd just stick with the t-shirts I buy for ~$20. To be honest, not really concerned about the designer's livelihood. Looking out for mine.
