Watching the Phillies and Yankees game today. The Phillies are wearing the pinstripes and, like everyone else has said, they just look cheap. The lack of chain stitching, lack of sleeve numbers, and tiny names just feel off. I didn’t think it would be as noticeable and maybe it wouldn’t be for a non-uniform obsessive. I will get used to it, but when it comes to the Phillies they broke something that didnt need fixing.

Why are the Utah Jazz leaking it? Is there a connection I'm missing?
Walker Kessler wore it to the arena. I don’t know how or why he has one.

They are beautiful and the Titans own the right to wear them, but I agree with the idea that it’s one best left behind. They belong to Houston and the Tennessee Oilers didn’t leave a mark. It’s all just an awkward remnant of that unfortunate era of franchise movement.

BBTV, as per usual, nailed it.

This is true and good context. I think i just had the dazzle pants in my mind and was disappointed that they weren’t included since that is what I grew up with. The more I look at them compared to these the more I like the new ones. They still feel a little flat, but Hoover could be right. Maybe the current template didn’t help in translating them to today.

Ruined by lack of dazzle pants.
I couldn’t put my finger on why they felt so… meh. This is why. These pants are gray. Not silver.
The jerseys are fine, but again… meh. They lost something in translation. I am sure I will be excited to see them
in the sunlight with old field logos and stuff, but right now, as an Eagles fan, they aren’t hitting like I hoped.
I agree the currents could use an update, but a return to Kelly full time would feel like a step back. I love the darker green and always have. It’s been my favorite color since my brother got a dark green Dodge Shadow in 1993 and I thought it was the coolest car ever.

I miss the players wearing their own uniform. It made it feel like they were representing their team. This doesn’t feel as special. But we need jerseys to sell!

NHL.com article about Flyers draft
In seeing the new Flyers sweater, I like it more and more. The new orange is fascinating. It’s darker, but also somehow more vibrant. I think it’s because of the better contrast against the white, not making it feel as washed out.
I like the new Ducks sweater in a vacuum, but knowing what we could have had is frustrating.

I don’t understand how it’s “cleaner”. The previous ones were about as “clean” as it gets, and now there’s the distraction of the mismatched sleeve numbers.
I think it’s that the numbers (while mismatched) fit inside the sleeve stripe, the bottom stripe matches the bottom of the arm, and the consistent collars.

I like new look overall. It’s cleaner. The one gripe is the black number on the sleeve. I wish it were orange outlined in black, but I get it’s an inverse of the back number. I think these may stick out too much, but it’s a relatively minor quibble.

The jersey is gorgeous and the hat with a blue brim provide a base for a new primary set.

I like the enhanced helmet, the shade of red, and the white jerseys. The giant word mark is inexcusable and will date this set terribly if it hasn’t already. I do think mixing and matching the red and white combos will make everything better as the mock ups show.

The Orioles have my favorite overall uniform set in baseball. Even these road grays are beautiful. I love the white front panel hat, but even these black with the orange brims are sharp. These, the home whites, and the orange alts are all great.

For a long time my high school alma mater used a red and black Memphis Grizzlies logo since we are the Bears. We are now using an original, but not as well designed bear head. I love the version we used when I was a kid. I loved it back then too, but I understand it was dated in that it was too detailed and probably hard to reproduce, especially in smaller applications.

Man, that ‘49 Phillies jacket is a beauty.
This thread is a terrific reminder of how beautiful and unique baseball aesthetics were. This is why I am here.

Pants stripes is one of the handful of tweaks that the current set needs to be great – pants stripes, strokes on the numbers, and maybe a little more gold. It's a solid set – the teal pops off the black and white where the old set is more muddy, and the numerals are close enough to block to feel classic, but far enough away to be unique.
I am a fan of pants stripes that match the helmet stripes (I am looking at you, Colts). It creates balance and consistency. I am a little more forgiving of no pants stripes for Jags since they have no helmet stripe. I don’t mind having the logo on the pants. That said, I am against any set where the socks match the pants. Thursday night needed teal socks at least.

I am nostalgic as anyone for the Jags’ old sets, especially the number set. But the current set is fine and professional. I would just add a teal outline to the white numbers on the black jersey, gold on the white numbers on the teal jersey, and either or on the black numbers on the white jersey (not both in a double outline, pick one). To me they just need that one tweak, not a full reset. Maybe just bring the ‘95 teals back as a throwback.

Eagles' black helmeet has a shiner finish IRL than in the unveilings. I think the satinish/flatish version would have been better.
It is shiny, but I thought it would be more sparkly. Like have some more glittery flake in it. Maybe in the daylight they will pop more.

I am glad the Eagles black helmets are sparkly, I guess? They remind me of blacktop. But it continues to show how dark the current green is because they don’t feel much different. I wished they embraced silver/charcoal or whatever they call it instead of black.

Eagles announced a black helmet for 2022 a while ago but haven’t unveiled it. They chose a black helmet this year because they have a jersey they can immediately pair it with.
From what has been implied, the kelly green helmet will replace the black helmet in 2023.
The Eagles released a teaser tweet today for the black helmet.

@OnWis97 generally speaking, I agree with you. Like I was happy that the Warriors won in their blue jerseys, not the black alts. However, the Cubs didn’t bother me since I grew up in the ‘80s with them wearing the blue tops on the road. Plus, like you said, their grays are probably the best they’ve had, but aren’t iconic. If they would have won in Wrigley in the blue that would have bothered me more.

I get huge NY Jet vibes from this.
Eagles can either choose Black or Kelly Green. They can't have both.
Agreed. Green (whichever shade) and silver are the Eagles to me. It’s based on the Philadelphia mint. It’s part of the city and the team’s history. Also it sets them apart from the Jets. Black should be an accent. The fact that they don’t have silver or charcoal pants with the current set is a mistake in my opinion.

I wouldn't say large gap. Wordmarks usually end up on helmets (front and rear bumpers) and then they're incredibly important for end zones (especially for the Super Bowl), though 30-40 years ago it really wasn't the case - a number of teams had end zones that had nothing to do with their wordmarks.
I was thinking about this. I wonder what the arched word mark would look like if they kept the lettering the same, but flattened out the bottom to have it fit better in the end zones and bumpers.

My first thought (other than the work I was going to have to do) was that it reminded me of the Lions wordmark, which also sucks. There's no character or charm whatsoever.
Absolutely agreed. First thing I thought of too.

@Conrad.’s update is gorgeous. I agree with a lot of what has been said. I like the return of the classic script. My biggest gripe is the weighting of the ship being too heavy at the bottom. I didn’t even notice the sails until taking a closer look. It definitely looks more like a battleship or cruise ship. Making the sails bigger and the hull smaller would go a long way.
