Nike will be re-releasing a US national kit, with the 1999 USWNT home shirt expected to the shirt released. This hasn't yet been confirmed however.

They're also re-releasing a Brazil "9 Ronaldo" shirt in April. It's also available without the name and number:

Update: Andreas Pereira has posted a picture of him wearing the Nike Brazil 1998 World Cup remake kit. Nike will launch the Brazil 1998-2024 remake kit with Ronaldo 9 print, plus a player-free version, in March or April 2024.

On another note, both versions of the XFL (2001/2023), the WLAF and the 1980s and 2022/23 incarnations of the USFL have held games on Easter Sunday.

    With spring football, it's unavoidable.

Question though - since the touchback is now the 30, does the kicker need to pooch it to fall in the "zone", rather than use his full leg?  I do like that part - kickers have become way too much a part of the game, so anything to reduce their impact - whether it's pushing the kickoff back to the 30 (or even 25 based on today's kickers) or narrowing the goal posts is a-ok with me.

Yup, this is the intention, to get more returns. One thing the XFL had was that if you dropped it in before the 20 yard line you'd get the ball at the 35 yard line. It bit the Defenders in the backside in the XFL Championship just when it looked like they could get back in the game. I don't know that the NFL setup the same penalties for falling short of the "target zone".

  4. Pretty much every XFL partner from last year will again be involved this year.  Gatorade replacing Pedialyte for sideline hydration is the one big change.

One interesting item on the UFL store. Bluetooth boom boxes. Mini helmets were shown, but it looks like they are still only available for the former USFL teams.

What's going on with the Rawlings logo on some players? I noticed a bunch of Guardians players with it as well. Didn't the league purchase Rawlings several years back?

Minor Leaguers that made up the extra numbers in camp. Guardians minor Leaguers also had plain white block nameplates.

MJ, you're in San Antonio.  You know how big Easter is here.  Camping at the Brack (and other parks) days before Easter just so your spot's reserved for you and the familia...

I'm not Hispanic, but having lived in the city for 45 odd years, I know that it's a big deal down here.  Whereas I don't think it's going to be a major draw away from the game, I do believe it will take a couple thousand away from the game.

Yeah, as much as they cracked down on it the last couple years and it still skipped my mind. Hahahahaha!!

all these nike NCAA tourney schools with (insert school name) ENERGY on their shooting shirts are somewhat lame.  So much for originality.

Nike and adidas roll these out every year. The only difference is the punchline changes each year.

That is what I thought.  NBA Centers these days are quite athletic and even have a 3 point game.

I think if he went to somewhere similar to Golden State, he can fill that Draymond Green/Dennis Rodman role on the boards. But if he's anywhere else, he's just a less mobile LaMarcus Aldridge.

One thing about those Mexico uniforms, from far away they look like a dark maroon, brown, or black depending on the lighting in the stadium.  They should have also gone with white shorts, but that's the least of their problems with this set.

As for the United States, the numbers should match the uniform blue and be centered on the front. A red outline would work too.

  10. I find it funny that some people are dogging the UFL for having San Antonio play on Easter Sunday, because they have this overstated idea that the primarily Hispanic population of San Antonio is too religious in terms of Easter.  I don't really think that's going to affect the stadium attendance as much as the lack of marketing did last year.

That aside, Easter doesn't fall on the same day every year so your tie-in would always be changing.

This is also something important to remember. If Easter is closer to the end of April, baseball is already starting and college basketball is done.

One holiday that I felt baseball should try using for a special event is 4th of July. Not by wearing special jerseys or hats, but by playing the All Star Game on the 4th of July, the same way Indy car does the Indianapolis 500 on Memorial Day weekend.  I'd also think the NFL should move the start of the season to Labor Day weekend, with college football moving Week 1 to the week before permanently. They're doing that this year due to having an extra weekend with 2024 being a leap year.

I have the player spec versions of the 2016 shirts and never saw any color bleeding of the badge. If there were, there are other ways they could apply the material, such as using white for the mesh. What’s especially interesting is that the Nike images showed exactly that (might need to zoom in to notice):

Those are the kind of details that sell me on player spec shirts. When I noticed the US shirts didn’t have it, I opted for the fan replica this go around.

I almost always buy the replica for Nike because there's not enough difference between them. I avoided either of the 2022 World Cup uniforms because they looked so bad, but I'll definitely get the home shirt and shorts this go around.

It's the USL Super League that is going to start playing this fall.  The USL W-League is a developmental Women's League.  Also if Macario was to ever play in the US, it will be in the NWSL.   She has ties to San Diego (moved there as a kid) and the San Francisco Bay Area (went to Stanford) so it probably won't be an MLS situation where "high profile international player wants to play in MLS but only for the two LA teams, the two New York teams or Inter Miami" as we expect will happen to Neymar if he wants to play in the US.

This is the USL Super League:

    USL Super League - Wikipedia

    USL Super League

Yeah I meant the Super League. San Antonio has a team in the W-League and they'll be playing in basically a practice facility instead of Toyota Field. I also don't know how they have Division I for women, and no teams in 2&3? W-League is Division 4.

With the USL Championship and USL Super League (the Women's League), is the USL dealing with delusions of grandeur?

The USL diehards want the USL Championship to compete against the MLS and are upset that the USSF have sanctioned them as Division II.  There's also some in the USL Championship who also believe that they should compete with the MLS.  This isn't happening for two reasons:

    1. In order to compete with MLS, they have to go toe-to-toe with them for talent.  It is unlikely that they have the finances to compete for Neymar should Neymar want to play in the US.
    2. USL Championship teams folding doesn't help their cause.  Rio Grande Valley FC and San Diego Loyal folded.  If they wanted to compete with MLS, at least consider relocation.

As for USL Super League?  Well....the best US player not in NWSL is Catarina Macario. If she wants to play in the US, does she go NWSL or USL Super League.  If she goes USL Super League, it would be their biggest signing ever.  If she goes to the NWSL, what chances does the Super League have?  Also, two of the teams in the NWSL are owned by USL teams, so it will be interesting to see what happens with the North Carolina Courage and Racing Louisville.

Seeing that some of the USL W-League stadiums are high school venues, I don't see them catching NWSL talent any time soon.

Just terrible, the German national team in something other than Adidas seems wrong. Puma I could get but Nike is sacrilegious.

I think adidas is trying to get more club teams under their wings now, but I was surprised to see Nike finally catch this car. I remember ahead of the 2006 World Cup that Nike had outbid adidas for the contract, but the DFB still chose to stay with adidas. I'm betting this is probably a similar case and the DFB couldn't just say brand loyalty was more important to them. It also clears up why Puma was able to get the Portugal contract. Nike probably threw more than a few of those eggs into Germany's basket instead.

    Speaking of Nike:

People are complaining about the "flag" on the bask of the home shirt, . . . for reasons. The laughable part of these people complaining is that the "flag" is actually the pattern for the training shirts as well, and they won't be complaining about the pattern as a whole on that specific shirt, just the collar of the home jerseys that most people don't bother to look at during games. Some people just aren't happy unless there's something to complain about.

Ok, buckle up guys. This might be the most shocking news in years. Adidas, long time German national team supplier will end its countless decades long relationship when Nike steps in to take over in 2027 😳

I truly hate this. If adidas can’t maintain its relationship with the DFB, then nothing is sacred anymore.

As of now, all I can find are German language articles.
