The Cubs should probably have added black to their color scheme in 1998 to match the Fire since they won championship their first year

Chicago Fire was red, white and navy blue until the rebrand this year.

I have to wonder if these will end up on the latest template that Oregon is wearing.  I tend to think that there are those at Nike who love traditional as much as "modern", but their job is more to showcase *something* about the template when it comes to opportunities like this.

But yeah, there's no defending these.

The fact that one team is in gold makes me think the NFL actually wanted those colors for this year and Nike was happy to oblige. These are just awful.

You see, the problem there - at least as I see it - is that a San Antonio pro sports team already exists that's dubbed the Missions.

While centering the proposed San Antonio MLS team's badge around a depiction of the front of Mission Concepción, Mission Espada,  Mission San José, or Mission San Juan Capistrano would avoid said team sharing a visual reference with the city's Triple A baseball team, San Antonio Mission FC and the San Antonio Missions would still have very similar - indeed, one could say confusing given that their seasons overlap - nomenclature.

As the manner in which Mark has rendered the Alamo in his soccer crest is quite distinct from the way that the baseball team opted to illustrate  it in their logos (a spare silhouette versus more detailed depictions), it strikes me that it might be better for the teams to share a visual tie to the landmark structure, while adopting names that are unique. So, rather than dumping the Alamo silhouette from the soccer team's badge, go the route of renaming said club: Alamo City FCBexar County SC, San Antonio FC, etc.

Mission City FC would still separate them from the Missions as well.

I'm not completely sold on this one, the Alamo is heavily used for SA, so I may end up trying something different. I'd like to hear what everyone thinks of this first. If this isn't well received I might go with something along the lines of Fiesta SAFC

I'd consider using one of the other missions that are UNESCO heritage sites. The Alamo is well known but I think using one of the other mission fronts would fit inside the design a little better.

Decency is a stretch. The Vikings outside of quirks look good. The Lions were close but no cigar. The Jets same( black and weird striping) Dolphins got it right with the color fix. As far as the Jags they haven't looked good since adidas was manufacturer.

Adidas never outfitted the Jaguars. Wilson, Reebok and Nike have. The Vikings look better because of the quirks, like the sleeve stripes and pant stripes. The Jets would have looked better if the sleeve stripes stopped on the sleeve cap.

He actually was a NOPD officer. You can tell he was a tight wad telling the players he’d arrest players if the smoked cigars in the locker room only to then be overruled by another LEO. Who knows maybe OBJ was just trying to help him get the stick out of his ass.

ESPN identified him as a Superdome security guard. Here in SA, we have security guards whose uniforms mimic the SAPD, so I disregarded his actual badge.

So OBJ has been charged with simple battery of an LEO after slapping ones backside after the NCAA National Championship Game. Really? 1. The LEO is over reacting, 2. OBJ is even dumber than I thought to think touching an LEO was a good idea. The passing out stacks of cash and possibly giving his Alma mater and the kids sanctions in the process was dumb in its own right. Now he could face up to 6 months in prison (probably won’t but still) because he decided to be a dumbass.

Why is anyone surprised that New Orleans has a crooked police force that focuses on things that upset sports fans than anything important?

He's a security guard, not a policeman. The "assault" is on tape and consists of one slap to the backside. If they do anything other than fine him I'd be surprised, but then again as you noted, New Orleans and common sense are never in the same area code, let alone the same room.

I’d be down for this.  World Emblem did this for a reason I can’t remember awhile back showing their new FlexStyle product.  Looks great, in this medium at least:

Reminds me of ESPN NFL Live intro art. I'm not sure how well it would stand up during a game though.

Losing an all field goal game to the Rams in a monsoon in their third year is grasping for straws about as hard as you can grasp. I say that as a Bucs fan who used that weak argument for WAY too long before they actually made a Super Bowl.

I still think they had success at times with that uniform but I can understand that the 2003 change wasn't change for change sake, which is what the current uniform seems to be.

  10. 12 minutes ago, Bucfan56 said:

They didn’t have any history of success, either.

They actually did. They've won divisions twice before the change, and almost made a Super Bowl in 1979 wearing the same uniform they entered the league in. People just tend to remember that uniform for those first two years because sports media is lazy when it comes to promoting teams. Dallas is a perfect example. A year in review title ran with "America's team" and it's been used ironically since 1996 by non-Cowboy fans.

That’s because this was the first time the higher seed won. Ohio State’s the only playoff team to win a national championship wearing a colored jersey.

Because . . . . Nike. Oregon and Ohio State each had two alternate uniforms that year and wore the opposing uniform in the semi-finals.

Another notable thing from that friendly is the lack of MLS badges on NYCFC’s shirts. Since the right sleeve is now open to sleeve sponsors, I’m thinking teams will now be issued shirts without the MLS badge on them, with it being the responsibility of the EQ staffs to apply the badge to the left sleeve (and the sponsor logo on the right sleeve if the club has a sponsorship deal). If that’s the case the MLS badge will likely just be a heat transfer rather than the sewn-on application on last year’s jerseys. Since the NYCFC shirts here don’t have the MLS badges, it looks like teams will even be issued new versions of last year’s shirts with plain sleeves. This shot of Cincinnati’s new secondaries seems to show the possible new application of the MLS badge:

New York needs to use white numbers or they'll disappear on small screens. I wonder if we'll see the new sleeve sponsors during the kit release.

she's a VP / CMO so... i wouldnt quite say she's part of the Creative Team. the C-Suite and ownership is who you expect to be involved in most of these things. add in fan and player input, this seems pretty standard process to me. which is frightening! LOL, but again, im trying to stay positive . let's hope for the best.

i was thinking about this too, what will the alternate jersey look like? if it were me, i would start talking about what that alternate jersey should be early. do we go back to a black primary? then does that mean we go with a red helmet? so does that make our alternate the 60's throwback?

they can go a lot of ways here and don't put it past Nike to introduce the unexpected. a silver helmet or something, you know? i wouldn't even make an attempt at guessing what they'll do here, i just hope they don't go backwards for the primarys; evolve the great primary uniform they already have :)

Based on the wordmark alone, if it's the one going forward, I think that means a return to an earlier design as the primary look is out.

Just gonna post here about Missouri State football because usually there's not any good reason to talk about Missouri State football. It's an FCS program that's already been run into the ground. Repeatedly.

The university just announced it's hiring Bobby Petrino. Press conference tomorrow morning.

The other candidate was reportedly Art Briles.

Something like this, but put that yoke pattern on the sleeves, is something I think would look great for Atlanta. Just use that wing pattern from the logo and you're good to go.

That the reported ringleader got one game for "team violations" is pathetic. Franklin is going to have to do a lot of explaining if the accusations are true and that's all they felt was appropriate for stuff like this. I know the NCAA will stay out of it because they crushed Penn State, then pulled back immediately, but they need to do something about things like this before another kid is permanently damaged by things like this.

Reebok piping era was the worst in pro sports history.  They even ruined the NHL for a while.  Throw in the Broncos too while you are at it.

That was Nike's first step outside the box that led to BYU's bibs before a semblence of sanity returned to uniforms.

So a few things. First, I don't think that the logo is safe. I think its changing. Brett, Arthur's SVP and CCO for the ownership group, seem to imply that they're changing the logos too.

As far as the jerseys, and I don't even know if the NFL would allow this, but I think we're going soccer style with a 3rd that isn't just a recolor of the home/away. @BrandMooreArt might be able to share some insight on if this would even be possible.

Personally I think the home/away are going to be something modern looking with the 3rd being a fauxback.

I think team colors are still required but the third jersey doesn't have to be a recolor of the home or away jersey.

Funny the amount of mental gymnastics people will use to continue to not give credit to Teal. I'm looking forward to seeing what the design looks like.

We give him credit. The issue was all of the cryptic speak, and basically him having to be told to say who the mystery team was, that annoyed everyone.

    4. Getting back to Joe Burrow; he had already gotten a bachelors degree, a master's degree, won the Heisman, is the consensus NFL number one pick. His future is set....  To listen to some on this board (and in the media, social and professional) there was no reason for him to play in the playoff game or national championship game, and he was a a sucker to do so. "he is just one injury away from not being able to collect millions of dollars; look out for number one".  But as the consummate TEAM player, he played anyway, and led his team to the championship.

These are the same idiots that say Lawrence should sit out next year , then enter the draft with no new tape since yesterday.

I mean, Florida and Michigan are Jordan schools which is just a Nike uniform with the Air Jordan logo slapped on the chest. If they were to make the CFP they'd probably have a Crystal Jordan instead of the Crystal Swoosh.

Who among Auburn, Notre Dame, and others will step up to be the first non-Nike team to make the Playoff Championship??

Utah has a better chance if they run the table in the Pac-12. Auburn plays way too many better teams to survive in the SEC unscathed. Notre Dame will only make the playoffs if they are undefeated, and they play Clemson at some time next year. Wisconsin could run through the B1G West, but I don't know if they could beat Ohio State, Penn State or Michigan in the B1G title game. They also need to replace Taylor and Cephus, the former being more difficult to replace than the latter.
