  1. The Jet's jersey was one I meant to mention. It's literally dull, The colour palette is just very bleak. Swapping the white with the sliver would help I think?
  2. That Detroit jersey would actually make me angry if I was a Wings fan.
  3. Climate change. The ice melted. Edit: Beat to the joke
  4. Some general thoughts... If we're reversing retro, are we actually going... to the future? Turning ahead the clock if you will. Eh, maybe not. Buffalo looks great. Shows that changing the colour scheme was never really necessary way back when. Generally Boring Category: Detroit, NYI, NYR, Ottawa. A lot of these have that practice jersey vibe going on. Carolina, the silver Whalers look is gross Colorado, sharp jersey but kind of hard for the Nordiques crowd to see I think "Ze Goggles Zey Do Nothing" Award: Columbus, St. Louis Best jerseys in the program: Colarado, Buffalo, Oilers, LA, Wild, Devils, Sharks, Tampa. As a Vancouver fan, the jersey is what we expected, and I think it will be quickly forgotten. I feel like this is a missed opportunity to do something bold like have a full green jersey. Do the millionaire's jersey in blue and green or something.
  5. I love this program. It's going to be ridiculous, and that is awesome. As a Canucks fan, the 2001 gradient third is kind of the most forgettable Canucks jersey aside from the home yellow skate post flying V jerseys, so I don't see it being super exciting. It seems like they aren't using silver, which is a shame, since it's still on the current Orca logo.
  6. You know what, this new Stars jersey could have even gone more garish. Imagine if they swapped the black and green!
  7. Somehow the Whitecaps, objectively a terrible team, with one of the worst goal differentials in the league, beat LAFC last night and are currently in a playoff spot.
  8. They also all look like the low end jerseys you see at Canadian Tire and can't quite tell if they're a crappy knock off or not.
  9. A shame there's no gold incorporated in the striping on the arms or hem.
  10. Folks, the most watched soccer league in the USA is LigaMX yes? Messi not speaking English is not a reason not to bring him over. I mean, sure, having english fluency is better for promotional purposes, but the amount of $$$ you'll make on merch sales, improved TV rights deals, etc, is more than worth any growing pains.
  11. There's a lot of similarity in Halifax and Pacific's visual identities, which makes sense since they're both ocean cities, albeit over 4400km apart.
  12. Forgot there was a separate CPL thread. Here are the 2020 away kits: https://canpl.ca/article/macron-away-kits-for-2020-cpl-season-unveiled-for-all-8-clubs
  13. CPL away kit reveals for 2020 being livestreamed starting now:
  14. That was the home kits I think. It's all new home and away kits this year I believe. Live stream starting soon:
  15. Thanks for the replies and the insight. Interesting on Bruckheimer.
  16. If the team didn't exist before, it's not a re-brand is it? A branding?
  17. That means it's accurately referencing the Space Needle, built for the 1962 world's fair. Worlds Fair's have always had an element of imagining the future.
  18. Oh, I totally agree. Looks like the producers of the original Clash of the Titans just decided they liked Kraken better as a word, and I can get that, it sounds cool. It's a shorter and punchier word than "leviathan" for an actor to utter. I share the interest in history (it's what my undergraduate degree is in) and mythology some of the other posters do, but I also understand that stories and language evolve and the commonly understood meaning of words change overtime based on how they're used.
  19. Fair point, I don't know the quality of construction of the hats, I just find the designs tedious, and there are not enough options for fitted hats. I can't find a fitted Canucks hat I like, and I need a size 8 hat, snapbacks and flexfits don't work.
  20. Yes, I know. But Clash of the Titans is a Greek Mythology movie with a non-greek name slapped on their sea monster. Here's Ray Harryhausen talking about it in regards to the 1981 movie. https://youtu.be/t7cYTDKkS0c
  21. I think any assertions that the team picked the name based solely on a meme are ignoring more relevant things like local context. Look at this list: Seattle Sounders FC Seattle Seahawks Seattle Dragons Seattle Mariners Seattle Seawolves Seattle Kraken Seattle Storm OL Reign Out of eight Seattle pro sports teams, five names with nautical themes. Two mythological creatures (maybe three if you count Seawolves?). One weather name and one royalty related name that's maybe also a weather pun? Kraken seems to fit the theme in the market.
