Clemson has reportedly filed a lawsuit against the ACC in South Carolina

As dumb as it sounds to say the GOR isn't an actual grant of all rights, a big part of Clemson's claim is that the GOR itself states that it is specifically for the ACC-ESPN deal. Their argument is that if you're no longer ACC, the ACC deal doesn't apply to you.

    According to who?

It's going to be a rebuilding year but FSU has done a great job filling holes in the portal.

You seem to be basing your stance on one exhibition game where FSU's sole motivation was a bowl check. Norvell is about as honest as they come with his players and was 100% on board with any player who wanted to sit that game out to protect their own futures.

  3. Don't forget. Bama hires South Alabama's HC as DC and Buffalo's HC as a defensive assistant.

This is a full-blown trend at this point. It used to be you'd go G5 to work on your HC chops but now you're seeing these G5 coaches thinking their best shot at a P5 (or whatever it'll be now) will be to be already working for a team in the group.

  4. This might be the final nail in the coffin for nearby Peoria. The arena management wants to get rid of the team and the fans had to fight like hell just to have a season this year/get a new ice plant. The management still hasn't purchased the new ice plant and have scheduled events for this summer (the plan was for the installation to take place this summer). Having a Coast team less than 40 miles away might just do them in should the arena renovations not actually happen.

Bloomington, IL has been awarded an expansion franchise in the ECHL for 2024-25. No name or branding announced yet but a Twitter/X suggests they will be the Bloomington Bison

There was a Twitter, a Facebook, and Instagam with the Bison name.

It's gone now but there were edits to the team's Wikipedia page that said the Bisons name and that the team would be affiliated with St. Louis.

Am I the only one who still wonders when the AHL started to allow independent teams again?

They never stopped allowing it. There was a certain sect of people, myself included, who interpreted the AHL's rules as saying you needed an affiliation to join the league but you're not required to maintain membership.

How much do the parent NHL clubs contribute to player salaries and any sort of contractual obligations?

In baseball, there's a huge chunk of player pay and oversight that is covered by the parent club while the minor league teams mostly worry about the day-to-day operations of selling tickets and managing the logistics of the organization.

Most AHL players are on NHL contracts and often provide the GM of the AHL team meaning they're the ones calling the shots for players on AHL contracts too.

In the ECHL, there's a growing amount of influence but it's still a majority of the league that's on ECHL contracts without being guided by an NHL team's whims.

Amazing how Colorado bolts right after SDSU opted back into the MWC.  Nice timing, Kliavkoff.

SDSU absolutely wants, or at least wanted to, go to the PAC. The issue was the TV deal wasn't done. It's hard to budget against TV revenue and make a decision if you don't know what the number is.

Kliavkoff potentially let it slip at PAC-12 media days that the deal is done saying that they didn't want to announce the TV deal that day because they wanted the day to be about football. That sounds a lot like "a done deal that'll be announced next week" but it likely got delayed once people got whiffs of CU making a move.

They must have offline assurances that an offer is pending, probably from the Pac 12 given the request for an extension.

SDSU's buyout doubles if they don't exit before July 1 (I think 17m to 34m). They've likely go the wink and a nod from the Pac-12 and they're waiting for the TV deal to be completed.

    Interesting take from the ACC

Just need 8 teams to break the GOR. I think the best bet or smartest move is for Louisville to realize they're better off in the Big XII with old rivals like Cinci, WVU, and maybe even Memphis than whatever the hell the ACC is going to be when the big names leave or an ACC with uneven distribution. Louisville doesn't see itself as a basketball school. It's a basketball and football school. Football just doesn't have the consistency to merit the amount of money in uneven distribution for it to be a basketball and football school.

Same could possibly be said for both Dakota states with the 4 major public Dakota schools (despite some of them having recent success, with NDSU football as a prime example), or even Idaho, hence the UofI had to downgrade back to the FCS.

But back to Montana, at one point, the schools from that state (as well as Idaho) played with the schools in the Pacific Northwest (mostly who are now in the Pac-12), and competed at one time within the same conference. Times had changed since the 1960s

Idaho didn't go FCS because the government said they have to be the same conference as Idaho State. lol If anything, the government would just say they had to be the same conference as Boise State. Idaho moved down due to performance, a misguided thought they could dominate FCS, and an inability to increase the capacity of Kibbie.

  13. These new FSU unis are basically what I had been hearing for months. Last I had heard about them, it was going to happen but it was a matter of when Nike would actually roll them out if it was this year or next.

They're so beautiful. I love them so much.

Being in a high profile conference like the Big Ten (and not being a part of a dying conference) absolutely helps recruiting. That is a big selling point for both players and coaches. Which gets back to my take on Deion maybe sticking around if CU goes to the Big Ten.

Being in the B1G takes them away from the only two recruiting identities they've ever had. What happens with that when (not if) Deion leaves? The university's president isn't going to be so short sighted. There would have to be a mountain of incentive other than "OMG WE'RE B1G!1!"

    Fixed.

Colorado joining the Big Ten will go a long way in bringing in top talent, will reignite their rivalry with Nebraska, and play a huge part in keeping Deion at CU -- cause you know he's bolting for a Big Ten or SEC school if things go well in Boulder

To add, I'd imagine both Arizona schools are also on the Big Ten's radar. They would be foolish not to consider some west coast rivals after scooping up the LA schools.

Colorado has always waffled between recruiting California (in the PAC) or Texas (in the Big 12). Please tell me how joining the B1G will help them land more top talent? No LB from Detroit is going to pick Boulder over another more local school.

  16. A bridge isn't needed but a larger western presence sure is. If some schools could join to essentially make it a western division, that would work. Sending your soccer team on a swing that takes them to Seattle, Eugene, and LA would make it more cost-effective per match than just heading out west for two in three days against UCLA and USC and likely have to make yet another trip out west for two, or maybe even just one, matches.
