  1. As a kid, I once rented an NES game that had all 28 at the time NFL teams, and their helmet logos, and actual players. I forgot the name of that game (Tecmo Super Bowl) until college. Lately I’ve been learning more about Tecmo Super Bowl and found it interesting that they could manage to be as accurate as they were given the technological limitations of working in 8-bit programming, especially when the helmet was automatically the same color as the pants. I also find it interesting that approximately half the NFL teams have alternate uniforms in this game, presumably to avoid clashes. There really was a great deal of attention and effort put in. Anyway, I’m meaning for this thread to serve as a piggyback from this excellent thread on a Tecmo forum: https://tecmobowl.org/forums/topic/52933-tecmo-super-bowl-uniforms-nes/ The Tecmo thread is good but leaves out a few alternates plus doesn’t show pictures of the various uniforms in action. Now we can play the game on our phones and computers and take screenshots, so I think it would be nice to visually catalogue the various uniforms used in this impressive game. I should be able to post a lot of them in the coming days if anyone can tell me what the preferred image-hosting site is these days. Also, if a mod wants to move this to a different forum, I don’t object. I'll show images of all the uniforms a given team wears in the game, and also give a brief description of the team itself in TSB. All uniforms are described as (helmet-jersey-pants). For instance, the Colts are white-blue-white.
  2. Over the past 17 weeks, I have been changing up each NFL match up. Using a simple equation I made up, I have redesigned the uniform matchups to something a little more realistic, and usually better on the eyes. My simple program goes like this: I go through the Gridiron Uniform Database, studying the uniform patterns over the last few years for each team. My main focus is the one question, "What will the team normally wear at this time period?" I then check through the uniforms a team has worn in a couple week scan, and find the best one that suits the match up of the day. Rules: Must be in the current uniforms Must be realistic enough One helmet rule applies White vs color through every game (only 3 games break this rule) 3 games in alternate uniforms max (only Baltimore breaks this rule with 4) Up to 4 different jerseys in one season (Home, Away, Alt 1, Color Rush) Note: This is heavily inspired by @DNAsports series, thanks to him I'd first like to start with all the combinations used for each team! 3. Hello! I just want to start a concept topic about a mashup of logos of the franchises from each city. The result will be a logo for each city (in NY and LA two logos) representing the NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL and MLS teams. So, this is the first one: Los Angeles (part I). -City: Los Angeles -Colours: Los Angeles Lakers colours (purple (#552583 ) and gold (#fdb927) -LA letters from the Los Angeles Lakers jersey logo -Ram head from the Los Angeles Rams logo -'Los Angeles' name from the Los Angeles Dodgers jersey logo -Baseball from the Los Angeles Dodgers logo -Crown from the Los Angeles Kings logo -Shape from the LA Galaxy logo Thank you for your time here.
  4. I saw there was a thread about Tampa Bay Bucs possibly getting new unis for the 2020 NFL season. Here are some markups I did. I kept the Retro unis pretty straightforward, but combined the 2 looks with the Retro & the early 2000's. Please give me any feedback you may have.
  5. Making a separate thread for discussion of face mask color and preference for teams. Unpopular opinion: The Browns look best with a brown face mask.
  6. Well, those of us who are fans of 20 of the 32 teams who missed the playoffs, welcome. Might as well make quick reference to coaching changes (head coach at start of 2018 listed as the "former"): Arizona: Steve Wilks -> Kliff Kingsbury Cincinnati: Marvin Lewis(!) -> Zac Taylor Cleveland: Hue Jackson -> Fred Kitchens Denver: Vance Joseph -> Vic Fangio Green Bay: Mike McCarthy -> Matt LaFleur Miami: Adam Gase -> Brian Flores NY Jets: Todd Bowles -> Adam Gase Tampa Bay: Dirk Koetter -> Bruce Arians Also, NFL Network's Mike Mayock has been hired as the Raiders GM. So, you know, there's this stuff and all the other ways to complain about the way your team sucks.
  7. Hi all, With the AAF season underway and looking more and more like an NFL farm system, I decided to take that literally. I have assigned all 32 NFL teams an affiliate farm team and given them an assigned stadium. However, I will keep the current eight teams and assign them to NFL affiliates with minor recoloring to match their respective teams (they may receive new stadiums to scale down though). I will be going division by division and explaining team names, starting with the AFC East going till the NFC West. I'm excited to work on this, so here goes nothing! Toronto Hogs (Buffalo Bills Affiliate): Nicknamed the hogs due to "Hogtown" being one of Toronto's many nicknames, Toronto would make a great ground for the Bills affiliate, as it would allow for the NFL to expand internationally for the first time and since the Bills played a game in Toronto annually for many years in the past, the affiliate should have fan support. Orlando Apollos (Miami Dolphins Affiliate): The team name and logo remain the same, but are recolored to the Dolphins' signature teal and both shades of orange they used in their history. New Jersey Fighters (New York Jets Affiliate): Obviously a reference to a fighter plane, like the Jets and the logo is in a similar style to the parent organization, even with the impending branding change. It would allow for the team to hang onto their older, retro identity. Providence Minutemen (New England Patriots Affiliate): Referring to the famous soldiers during the American revolution, it fits the Patriots' brand and identity. Let me know your thoughts/suggestions! I will be doing the AFC North next!
  8. Here are some of my ideas for NFL redesigns / concepts for the NFL. These are rough drawings so please excuse that lack of perfection. Also there are some teams that I didn't change hardly anything on. Some teams are just awesome the way they are. Please give me your feedback First up is the Tennessee Titans

    Eagles concept

I figure it happens to all of us eventually...the muse simply hasn't been there lately. That is, until I sketched a few ideas down...and realized I was sitting on an Eagles set I not only never posted, but had left unfinished until now. Two tone green, as kelly green returns as the primary hue, with midnight green remaining as trim. Silver returns, albeit with a greenish tint. The jersey and pants blend a few eras: the pants are from the Cunningham era, the shoulder stripe-cuff combo is from the late 60s, albeit colored in a different manner than that set had been (and I may have had King Corcoran on my mind a little bit, too), and then the chest striping is from the Jaworski era's sleeves, also seen on the socks. Both of the alts are throwback inspired, the third being a tweaked version of the 40s greens, with plain silver pants and a little addition to the yoke-stripe, alluding to the helmet's wings; the heritage uniform is loosely based on something the Eagles' predecessors, the Frankford Yellow Jackets, had worn early in their time in the NFL, hence their YFJ monogram on the back of the jersey. Sleeve stripes were turned into wings, largely for the hell of it.
  10. I'm not exactly sure what to call this as it's a bit different from the Unused Logos/Jersey thread. This is forgotten history about team name changes, logo rumors and relocation that never -- that kind of stuff. I bring this up for a couple of reasons and I'll illustrate my point to hopefully set the tone of the thread. I was researching the late '80s NBA expansion of Miami, Orlando, Minnesota and Charlotte and found a few interesting nuggets in this article. I knew about the Charlotte Spirit nickname as it wasn't well received, the I found the Florida Heat nickname bit interesting and pretty much forgotten without having to dig pretty far back into news archives to find the reference. Additionally there was The Athletic article yesterday about the Dallas Mavericks aborted rebranding in the late 90s before Mark Cuban bought the team and branded them with their current look. I also found a few mentions in other articles of the possibilities of the Spurs moving to Miami to accommodate both Expansion bids in Florida, since the NBA was originally set to expand only by three instead of four teams. Anyways, I'd love to discover more lost history in other sport leagues since basketball is what I know best. What do you have?
  11. Welcome to what is now my first completed concept series, the NHL City Mashup Series! In this series, I will be taking the identity of each NHL team and combining it with the identity of another team (different sport) in that team's city. Some rules I set for myself were Team must be in either the MLB, NBA, NFL, MLS, or CFL. The jersey must be in the style of the NHL team's jersey. The other team's colours will be the ones on the jersey. The fonts should be either the official team's font or a close matching font. Teams: Anaheim Ducks (Angels) Arizona Coyotes (Cardinals) Boston Bruins (Celtics) Buffalo Sabres (Bills) Calgary Flames (Stampeders) Carolina Hurricanes (Charlotte Hornets) Chicago Blackhawks (Cubs) Colorado Avalanche (Nuggets) Columbus Blue Jackets (Crew) Dallas Stars (Cowboys) Detroit Red Wings (Tigers) Edmonton Oilers (Eskimos) Florida Panthers (Heat) Los Angeles Kings (Dodgers) Minnesota Wild (Twins) Montreal Canadiens (Expos) Nashville Predators (Titans) New Jersey Devils (Jets) New York Islanders (Nets) New York Rangers (Knicks) Ottawa Senators (Redblacks) Philadelphia Flyers (Eagles) Pittsburgh Penguins (Pirates) San Jose Sharks (49ers) St Louis Blues (Cardinals) Tampa Bay Lightning (Buccaneers) Toronto Maple Leafs (Raptors) Vancouver Canucks (Whitecaps) Vegas Golden Knights (Raiders) Washington Capitals (Wizards) Winnipeg Jets (Blue Bombers) without further adieu, here's the first mashup, the Anaheim Angels in the style of the Anaheim Ducks. (Yes, I am aware they aren't the Anaheim Angels, but heck with that) C&C is appreciated! I am also considering doing throwback jerseys for each mashup, I'd like to hear your thoughts on the idea.
  12. I've seen this idea get bounced around for a thread and in the wake of the demise of the AAF, I feel now is a good time to discuss how an alternative league can potentially survive (and with a few strokes of luck, even thrive). While I'm focusing on alternatives to the Big 4 sports leagues in North America (NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL) as that is what I know, discussing alternatives to leagues outside of North America is obviously welcome. As for a potential alternative (American) football league, here are a few starters that would help IMO: 1. Have a secure source of funding and be willing to lose tens of millions of dollars to start. 2. Don't try to beat the established leagues right off the bat. After all, you have to prove that you can stick around as the longest lasting league since the NFL-AFL merger was the United Football League. 3. Maintain a smaller staff compared to an NFL team. This is obvious. Keep expenses down as much as possible. 4. Get a TV/streaming contract. Streaming is the next evolution of TV but get a TV contract because not everyone can access Internet fast enough to stream. Clearly this is nowhere near a complete list of steps necessary to establish a foothold in the sports market but it's a start.
  13. Guys, I'm in the process of delivering a complete overhaul of the NFL. Over the next few months I'll upload all 32 teams. I'll start with New York Jets and Cleveland Browns. AFC East Buffalo Bills Miami Dolphins New England Patriots New York Jets AFC West Denver Broncos Kansas City Chiefs Los Angeles Chargers Oakland Raiders AFC North Baltimore Ravens Cincinnati Bengals Cleveland Browns Pittsburgh Steelers AFC South Houston Texans Indianapolis Colts Jacksonville Jaguars Tennessee Titans NFC East Dallas Cowboys New York Giants Philadelphia Eagles Washington Redskins NFC West Arizona Cardinals Los Angeles Rams San Francisco 49ers Seattle Seahawks NFC North Chicago Bears Detroit Lions Green Bay Packers Minnesota Vikings NFC South Atlanta Falcons Carolina Panthers New Orleans Saints Tampa Bay Buccaneers Hope you like.
  14. With the Titans releasing their new uniforms tonight, where do you all on the board rank the Nike/NFL uniform changes? Personally I think the Vikings have the best one out of the handful of teams, and goes as follows: 1. Vikings 2. Seahawks 3. Lions 4. Dolphins (First Change) 5. Tennessee (Based off the leaks) 6. Jaguars (First Change) 7. Browns 8. Tampa Bay Sorry if this post already exists somewhere or has already been done!
  15. After stumbling across this website because I like uniform design concepts and making my first attempt with a Bengals redesign, I've decided to give it a go on the whole NFL. Some will be full redesigns while others will just be tweaks. I had a pretty simple baseline: Home and Away Uniforms for everyone, plus up to two extras between alternates and "throwbacks". The throwbacks tend to be a blend between throw and faux backs, but they are typically based in an actual throwback. Additionally, each uniform could have a secondary pair of pants deemed alternate, i.e. Home Alternate. Additionally, I placed them on a green background to show the contrast on grass. I based my templates from this @edjb93's template (to which he credits whoever created it and @LEWJ). So thank you both for sharing the templates! I hope you all enjoy, and let me know what you think!
  16. So we've all seen em, but I want to make them better. Here's Detroit: I would like to thank @raysox for the template and New Era for being bad at designing draft caps so I can fix them.
  17. I’ve lurked these boards a long time and finally have worked up the courage to share some of my work. For my first series I was inspired by reports that the 100th season will be more about looking forward to the future than celebrating the past. I will be doing all 32 teams in random order. I hope you enjoy. Up first are the Denver Broncos. I gave them a unique icy blue that I felt better looks like it fits a team from Colorado. Big thanks to @ren69 for designing the beautiful modern D logo and allowing me to use it.
  18. Considering the NFL had it's first major throwback uniform season in 1994 to celebrate the league's 75th season, I've been wondering for years how the NFL's 100th season in 2019 would look as far as uniforms are concerned. Since it is now only three years away I thought I would make a post about it so we can see who was right when 2019 does finally get here. If the 75th season can give us any ideas, they would be that every team will wear a 100th season jersey patch (every team wore a diamond-shaped 75th Season jersey patch in 1994, even on the throwback uniforms) but I think that's where the similarities between the two seasons will end. I do think special uniforms will be worn in 2019, but I don't think they will be throwbacks. The throwback trend seems to be dead for multiple reasons (played out / losing popularity, pretty much run out of interesting old uniforms to bring back, players must wear the same helmet throughout the season now so that eliminates a lot of options, etc.) so I'm guessing in 2019 to celebrate the 100th Season of the league they will do a throw forward year, with every single team having Color Rush (or some other gimmick) games or having Nike design "Pro Combat" style one-off uniforms designed to be worn with each team's normal helmet. If you don't count Super Bowl XXIX, when the league let the 49ers wear their 1994 throwbacks longer than teams were initially allowed and throwout the playoffs and Super Bowl, I believe Super Bowl LIV, played at the end of the 2019 season, could be the first year we see alternate jerseys or special one-off "Pro Combat" uniforms in the Super Bowl, if it doesn't happen this year for Super Bowl 50 (could be a nice game day or game time surprise for the 50th celebration.) In addition to "throw forward" and "Pro Combat" uniforms I'm sure the NFL will make an exception and let the two teams that played in the very first season of the NFL and are still around have a throwback year like they did for the original AFL teams in 2009 for the 50th Anniversary of the AFL. That means the Bears would throwback as the Decatur Staleys and the Cardinals would throwback as the Chicago Cardinals (that would be an interesting game: Chicago vs Chicago! With 1920 throwbacks!!!) So what do you guys think? What do you think is going to happen three years from now during the 100th Season of the NFL as far as team uniforms and logos are concerned?
  19. Thought i'd do a fun little concept, integrating every team into the teams city name, making a kind of cool design using the teams' names. Not as much of a team concept, but more of a miscellaneous concept series. Let me know what you think and what city you'd like to see! First up, my original home, New York City, featuring every team in the NY metro area. I will start with the five sport cities/metro areas, then four, then three (if i get that far).
  20. Hey guys! With the 2018 season quickly approaching, I'm going to start posting a series that I've been working on since before I knew this place existed. For each NFL franchise, I've created a new uniform and logo set. Some are simply modernizations of classic looks, while others will be more radical changes. The vector template I'm using is a combination of parts from a few existing templates that I modified to fit the appearance of andrewharrington's incredible template. After I've posted all the teams using the 2D template, I'll be presenting them division-by-division using a realistic 3D presentation I created myself. Until then, I'll be putting out my concepts in no particular order. I've got designs together 28 of the 32 teams so far. Most of them were created over the course of this summer. I'm starting college in a few days so I wanted to get as much work done as I could while I still had the time. AFC East Buffalo Bills - update Miami Dolphins - update New England Patriots New York Jets North Baltimore Ravens - update Cincinnati Bengals - orange helmet Cleveland Browns Pittsburgh Steelers South Houston Texans Indianapolis Colts Jacksonville Jaguars Tennessee Titans - update West Denver Broncos Kansas City Chiefs - update Las Vegas Raiders Los Angeles Chargers NFCEast Dallas Cowboys New York Giants Philadelphia Eagles - update Washington Redskins North Chicago Bears - alternate take - update - presentation Detroit Lions - presentation Green Bay Packers - presentation Minnesota Vikings - presentation South Atlanta Falcons Carolina Panthers - update New Orleans Saints - alternate take Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Creamsicle West Arizona Cardinals Los Angeles Rams San Francisco 49ers Seattle Seahawks First up is the Cincinnati Bengals, inspired by their color-rush uniform's block font and emphasis on white. The helmet design, which more accurately depicts the way the striping on a tiger's head actually works, is borrowed from a concept I've seen floating around for a few years. It's such a good idea that I built the rest of the team's visual identity around it. The number font is a custom block font I built. It's very similar to the one the Jaguars just released, but that was after I had already finished this concept. For the logo, I wanted to make a more aggressive, snarling cat with a lot of movement. Pretty happy with the way it turned out! Enjoy! C+C is greatly appreciated!
  21. I am starting this thread after a long break from the forum. I am setting out to fix rather than completely revamp each teams' look. Not only will I mock-up uniforms, but also merchandise and a field. In addition I have placed 2 restrictions on my concepts. 1.) Teams can have up to 2 different helmets. 2.) Teams can have up to 4 different jerseys (including throwbacks). Teams: Arizona Cardinals (Updated) Atlanta Falcons (Updated) Baltimore Ravens Buffalo Bills Carolina Panthers Chicago Bears Dallas Cowboys Denver Broncos I will start in alphabetical order with the Arizona Cardinals. Their current uniform is a mess of piping and looks incredibly dated. My idea was to restore a classic feel to a historic franchise, while adding a modern twist. I left the helmet untouched, because in my opinion it is key part of their identity. I sublimated the Arizona flag into the uniforms to establish a unique and regionalized look for the team. The black alternate takes this to an extreme but stays in line the the home and away. I also included a faux-back look that incorporates elements of past uniforms while still fitting in with their current identity. C&C is appreciated, next up will be the Atlanta Falcons.
  22. Well the Patriots dynasty rolls on. Congrats to the Pats for winning their sixth Super Bowl; only time will tell if they can make it seven under Brady and Belichick. We shift gears now and look ahead to Super Bowl LIV in Miami next year. Below is the design I made for next year's event down in South Beach. Let me know what you guys think and I appreciate the feedback!
  23. I think the Eagles have a great logo and I'm a big fan of their midnight green color, but I think they just have too much going on with black, charcoal gray and silver accompanying the green. In my opinion, the Eagles look best when they are wearing only green, silver and white, so this concept is more of a clean-up than a full on rebrand. I was also inspired by what the Detroit Lions did with their logo an uniforms this past season. Those are not perfect, but I really like the idea of what the Lions did. Here's my take on the logo: nothing too exciting, the green is a touch more green and the black is gone. The new wordmark is my take on a simpler, less "XTREME" version of the current wordmark and is more in line with the contemporary branding in the NFL: bold, single color lettering with some serifs and a bridge shape to give it some character. Here are the new home and road uniforms. Less is more as the uniforms are reminiscent of the current duds but are without the needless clutter of superfluous colors and embellishment. The Color Rush uniform is gray in the same style of the primary uniforms and the regular alternate uniform is a midnight green version of the classic throwback uniforms thanks to the one-helmet rule. So, thats it. Thanks for taking a look and I'm definitely open to any and all C&C and feedback.
  24. Sorry if this was posted (I couldn't find it through a search). Posted last week in UniWatch, this seems to be a good idea, but I imagine helmet manufacturers aren't having any of it. http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/25785067/the-sports-helmet-world-the-verge-decorative-revolution
