  1. I searched through threads for the past year and couldn't find anything like this, so I figured I would post it. The idea behind this thread is to post interesting facts or statistics that a lot of people don't know. It'll essentially be the answers to trivia questions. I've got two interesting ones to start this thread off. The Minnesota Vikings were the first team to kick an extra point from the 15-yard line. Tom Brady has played two games at University of Phoenix Stadium, but he has never played the Cardinals there. The Pats have played two Super Bowls there, but only played the Cardinals at home since the stadium was built.
  2. We have the Players in the "Wrong" Uniforms thread and within that thread I've seen a few "Right Team, Wrong Uniform" entries. I thought I'd separate the two, because it is an interesting topic of its' own. Here are a few to start the thread off with ... Charles Barkley, Preseason 1992, Phoenix Suns Matt Hasselbeck, 2001, Seattle Seahawks Jeff Bagwell, 1992, Houston Astros.
  3. Hi everyone, I have recently started a new project where I have made it a goal of mine to combine all of the sports logos from NHL, NBA, NFL and MLB (and at times MLS) from all of the major cities in the U.S. and Canada to create a singular city logo. I know this has been done countless times before but the way my designs stand out is they are more cohesive. They feel less like something was Frankenstein'd together and can almost act as a standalone logo. Consider this the definitive collection. I say this with confidence because they were all composed in Adobe Illustrator with linework redone to make the designs more seamless, images rendered in crisp high resolution quality, each one taking several hours of work and trial and error and the cherry on top of the cake is that I own my own print shop so I can make stickers and shirts out of these designs. It's a true passion project for me. My journey began when I was first getting serious about graphic design, the summer right before I enrolled at DePaul in 2013. I created a mashup of all the Chicago logos because I wanted my own version of it. All the variations I had seen online did not do the city justice and I wanted something genuinely more badass that wouldn't look cheesy. I dubbed it "The Chicago Beast". It was cool for a few years and then I sort of forgot about it - well in 2019 I decided to take another crack at it and make a wildly popular rendition of this logo mashup combination - you may have seen it online (I made a North Side - Cubs and a South Side - White Sox version. Both featured elements of the Blackhawks, Bears and Bulls. I have made slightly different variations - some including the 6 star Chicago flag and others with different color arrangements. Fast forward to 2021 - A whole year of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown had me yearning for another creative project that I can do for fun. I decided - why not give every city this same treatment? And so I did - "Major League Remix" (#MajorLeagueRemix). I will be posting the designs in this thread and would love some feedback! While I do consider these designs to be 'complete', as a true designer, I know there is always room for improvement, especially since teams change logos frequently. A few things to note (ground rules) for my concepts: They don't necessarily have to use the entire design of the logo in the mashup. They can be as little or as much as possible - the only rule is they have to look cohesive and make sense - no Frankenstein work! I often use past versions of team logos although I try to use the current ones as much as I can. This is because my goal is to make the logo look good, and if I use the core logo, it may not look the best. I have struggled a lot to piece some of these together because of the lack of uniqueness, clean design or symmetry so I have had to resort to alternates. Colors are fair game - as long as they are pulled directly from within the color palette of the city's sports logos. They all have a white border with rounded corners for consistency and also to set them up for sticker printing. That is all! I am so glad to be a part of this awesome forum - I can't think of a more perfect place to post this kind of work on the internet. If you want to follow me on social media - I am @DeluxeGraphicSupply on Instagram and Facebook. My website is also DeluxeGraphicSupply.com
  4. With my 72 Project winding down, I thought to myself, "Maybe a break would be nice, get through the semester, and then start a new series." Well then the Reverse Retros were officially released. And then I said screw the break, let's jump into my next project, because honestly, I have no self control. Since the NBA style of doing jerseys is all the rage right now in the concept world, that was the genesis for this idea. 4 jerseys for every team, though there will be no "Association, Icon" style names. Home, Away, Alternate and a Legacy slot were the original four jerseys. Then it became 5 with the advent of the Reverse Retro jerseys. I'll be doing teams in order of how they finished the regular season, starting with the dregs of the league (Detroit *sheds tears*) and ending with Boston. Seattle will be featured, likely after Boston. Home - Away: If you were expecting sweeping changes for the home and away jerseys, then you're in the wrong thread. I tried that in the last NHL thread of mine, simply trying to match the home and away jerseys. So the away jersey is unchanged. The home jersey does change ever so slightly. The hem stripe, formerly running into the hem, moves up to match the away jersey as a stripe. Other than that, the pants, socks and helmets are all the same. Alternate - I always felt an affinity to the Stadium Series uniforms and felt that with some tweaks, they could be a good alternate that doesn't hurt the Red Wings brand. So I decreased the slant on the chest stripe from the original, and allowed it to continue on the back of the jersey. The sleeves now have stripes and don't run off the ends of the sleeves anymore. Winged Wheel moves to the shoulders. Modern D logo on the chest. Slightly larger stripes on the socks. No changes to the pants. Gloves change up the colors a little. Legacy - Revisited the '27/'28 and 75th anniversary jerseys. Kept it largely the same. Bevy of stripes on the chest, DETROIT in the middle of the big one. Stripes on the sleeves to almost match the chest. Socks match the chest stripes. Pants change the Winged Wheel logo to the Old English D. Helmet also uses the Old English D. Reverse Retro - Literally anything would have been better than what the Wings actually went with. White and Grey? I get it, how do you RR a team that has had 4 total uniform styles in their history? Maybe dig just a little deeper? I went with the '28/'29 Cougars uniforms, and Reversed Retro'd them! Red base, white elements. Rolled with the 2014 WC script and the shorter wing. Used the pants from the Legacy jerseys. Also the red helmet now has the Old English D instead of the wordmark C&C is welcome!
  5. When I was in my early teens, my parents bought me NCAA Football 98 for the computer. I really enjoyed the game, and it was very well-designed for the most part: 100+ schools; full-season play with rankings, major bowl games, and major awards; school fight songs; decent playbooks; something approximating logos on the helmets. It was a very good game for the late 1990s---not as good as the Football Pro series overall, but distinctly collegiate and lots of fun. Anyway, despite the overall quality, there were two details that I have since learned were wrong. One, LSU by default wears yellow jerseys over white pants at home in that game. Two, Missouri's colors are green and gold in the game instead of black and gold. (Come to think of it, I think the latter was also the case in that college hoops game for the Super Nintendo even earlier.) I was wondering: have you guys and gals noticed any similar errors in other games? (Incidentally, Football Pro 98 has the Eagles wearing kelly-green-and-gray even though they were in their second season with their current and inferior color scheme.)
  6. Hey Everyone, this is my latest concept series, my Ideal NHL Series! Basically, this is what the NHL would look like if I had total control over everything jersey-related. To make this a little tougher for myself, Every single jersey must have at least one more or less noticeable change made to it. Each team will have 4 jerseys: Home, Away, Heritage, and Breakout. The home and away jerseys are the main jerseys in the set, to be worn for the majority of games. The Heritage jerseys pay tribute to either an earlier era in the team's history, a defunct/historic team in the area. Breakout jerseys are brand-new designs never before worn by the team. For this series, I will be going alphabetically by team name (Starting with Colorado, ending with the Wild). ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Let's kick this off with the Avs! I'm honestly not the biggest fan of the CCM/Adidas era jerseys and the A logo, so I decided to go in a new direction with the home and away. The two jerseys' arms feature burgundy and blue separated by mountainous white line, and a simple matching hem stripe. I personally love the C logo by itself, so I put that front and centre. The heritage jersey features a simplified version of the jerseys worn when Colorado won the cup in '01. Navy blue was used on the numbers and pants instead of black. The breakout jersey features a striping pattern inspired by the logo, and the diagonal striping creates a mountain shape when viewed from the side. What do you think? C&C is appreciated!
  7. Hi, I've been reading around many forums about people expecting the team return. Many believe that the iconic logo should stay as a primary, so I've decided to work on this and propose an other version of the this logo. Watch the video of the logo reveal before (No music) & check the rest under the video. C&C are appreciated! https://imgur.com/vDtPrUr
  8. Well, with all this free time on everyone's hands, I've revisited an old hobby and gotten back into jersey design for the first time in years. And with all of this season's NHL games free for now, I found some inspiration in 2019/20's three outdoor games, which is where this concept series will start, and we'll see what happens from there. By way of (re)introduction, this isn't technically a new account, but as I said, it's been years, and all my old posts are archived and all my old images are disappeared, which is for the best since they were pretty terrible. I'm not a graphic designer, just a hockey fan who thinks sports uniforms are beautiful, and as a hobbyist, my medium of choice is MS Paint, with some minor Photoshop for logo placement, recoloring, and resizing. I'm always open to criticism, suggestions, ideas, etc., and to posting revisions based on them. First up in this series: 2020 Winter Classic Dallas Stars vs. Nashville Predators I thought that on the whole, the 2020 Winter Classic had great-looking jerseys, but that didn't stop me from overhauling them, mostly by going even closer to their inspirations, the Dallas Texans and Nashville Dixie Flyers. I also thought there was no excuse for this game not to have been a color vs. color matchup. They look great on the ice, the league needs more of them, and while I understand that travel schedules are the main reason for not having them, outdoor games with one-off specialty uniforms are the perfect opportunity to make them happen. And it makes it easier for the road team to bust them out at home later on. So expect to see more color vs. color sets in this thread. My Dallas uniforms are heavily inspired by the Texans jersey that featured the D logo, rather than their other uniforms that inspired the actual Winter Classic jerseys. I introduced silver as a way to mimic the Texans' two-tone-red stripes, and added it into the logo as well to make things more cohesive. The D-in-a-star patch from the Texans' sleeve stripes is also carried over into the Stars' jersey, rather than the Texas-shaped patch on one sleeve and the Winter Classic logo on the other, which has been moved to the chest on both teams' jerseys. The arm numbers have moved up to become shoulder numbers as well, to give the D-in-a-star patch room to breathe, and to fill the space left behind by the shoulder yoke that's no longer in my version. The tan pants and gloves have become a true brown, which is also the helmet's color to try and tie together the "let's pretend the equipment is leather" motif. Obviously, the Nashville sweater has become yellow instead of white, but the striping pattern isn't much different than what was actually done. The cuffs aren't navy anymore, the arm stripes are a tad wider to make up for that, and the chest stripe continues onto the back, because it's my personal opinion that chest stripes cutting off at the sides (looking at you too, Florida) look terrible with very, very few exceptions. I could justify it if it made the numbers illegible or messy, but that's not the case here. As with the Stars, the Winter Classic logo moves to the chest, putting the fauxback tiger head on both shoulders. I also replaced the full-bodied tiger on the helmet with the head-only logo, because the full-bodied logo just always looked weird to me. Yellow helmets offered a better contrast to the Stars' brown helmets than navy helmets would, and the navy logo stands out better. So that's the start of this quarantine project! Heritage Classic is likely up next before the Stadium Series. Comments and criticism are welcome, and if there's any strong consensus or ideas that really resonate with me, keep an eye out for revisions.
  9. Just a fun little experiment based around the premise of the Panthers not making it through Covid & relocating to Quebec City for 2022/23 (sorry Panthers fans..). As the Avs own the Nords history I didn't want to go that route, and since the Panthers already have a strong, modern brand, I also wanted to retain some semblance of that as well. So after a thorough tweaking - Voila! the Couguars de Quebec... Primary; Pays homage to the former Panthers identity, while also incorporating aspects from Quebec City's rich history & symbolism. Secondary: Basically a similar premise to FLAs current secondary, remove text banner, replace Florida's flag w/ Quebec City's. Thoughts?
  10. Started playing with this idea before the retro reverse jerseys came out. Basically a slight update & cleanup of the original 90's mark. CC always appreciated!
  11. So I'm not entirely sure where or when it started, but I've heard bandied about the notion that the best sports logos, or maybe even best logos in general, should be able to be drawn by a bored 3rd grader on his notebook during class. I agree with this opinion generally, even if there are quite a few exceptions. The Flyers, 80's Phillies, Hawks, Whalers, Atlanta Flames, Buffalo Braves, etc. all have that classic 70's style logo look to them and are some of my personal favorite Big 4 logos thanks to that. So I got to thinking, what would the NHL look like if every logo passed the doodle test? And after a good while and a whole lot of doodling myself, here's my answer. I redesigned every team's emblem and tried to keep each as simple and easily replicated as possible. For creativity's sake I redid iconic and already very simple logos like Philly, St. Lou, and Montreal, and even remade the NHL logo itself. Let me know what you think of these little nuggets and whichever teams you'd like to see tweaked or elaborated, I'll tweak or do a few jersey sets and maybe small merch sets. Thanks People!
  12. I will be starting an expansion franchise in NHL21 naming a team in Wisconsin or Milwaukee as the location looking for everyone’s opinion on team name and colors. first thought was Milwaukee Muskies(state fish) with Tulane type colors love to hear all of your thoughts, thanks in advance!
  13. This is the latest iteration of a project that I've been working on for quite some time. I've never completely finished it, for one reason or another. Anyway, this is my vision of what the league could look like if it was Nike that had the exclusive contract with the league rather than Reebok followed by Adidas. The jersey template is based on pre-2014 Nike designs, so no flywire collars. Those look stupid. Following the real-life example of Nike and the NBA, every team will have four jerseys. However, they won't follow the same pattern as the NBA, i.e., teams can wear whichever jerseys they want whenever they want. The Nike NHL teams have one dark home jersey, one light road jersey, one dark alternate jersey and one light alternate jersey. Teams still wear dark colors at home and light colors on the road. Anyway, on with the show. Western Conference Pacific Division (8/8 primaries done, 8/8 alternates done) Anaheim Ducks Arizona Coyotes - PRIMARY PRIMARY REVISED ALTERNATE Calgary Flames - VINTAGE Edmonton Oilers Los Angeles Kings - PRIMARY ALTERNATE VINTAGE San Jose Sharks Vancouver Canucks - PRIMARY/ALTERNATE REVISED VINTAGE Vegas Golden Knights - PRIMARY ALTERNATE Central Division (7/7 primaries done, 7/7 alternates done) Chicago Blackhawks Colorado Avalanche - PRIMARY ALTERNATE Dallas Stars - PRIMARY/ALTERNATE REVISED Minnesota Wild - PRIMARY ALTERNATE Nashville Predators - PRIMARY ALTERNATE St. Louis Blues - PRIMARY ALTERNATE Winnipeg Jets - PRIMARY ALTERNATE VINTAGE Eastern Conference Metropolitan Division (8/8 primaries done, 8/8 alternates done) Carolina Hurricanes - PRIMARY ALTERNATE Columbus Blue Jackets New Jersey Devils - PRIMARY ALTERNATE New York Islanders - PRIMARY ALTERNATE PRIMARY/ALTERNATE REVISED New York Rangers - PRIMARY ALTERNATE Philadelphia Flyers - PRIMARY ALTERNATE Pittsburgh Penguins Washington Capitals - VINTAGE Atlantic Division (8/8 primaries done, 8/8 alternates done) Boston Bruins Buffalo Sabres - PRIMARY PRIMARY REVISED/ALTERNATE Detroit Red Wings - PRIMARY ALTERNATE Florida Panthers - PRIMARY ALTERNATE Montreal Canadiens Ottawa Senators - PRIMARY PRIMARY REVISED/ALTERNATE VINTAGE Tampa Bay Lightning - PRIMARY PRIMARY REVISED/ALTERNATE Toronto Maple Leafs - PRIMARY ALTERNATE Defunct Teams Atlanta Thrashers - PRIMARY ALTERNATE Hartford Whalers - PRIMARY ALTERNATE Quebec Nordiques - PRIMARY ALTERNATE World Cup of Hockey Canada - PRELIMINARY FINAL Czech Republic Finland Russia Sweden - PRELIMINARY FINAL United States - PRELIMINARY FINAL
  14. I've been really impressed by the Seattle Kraken's identity despite the name, so I decided to try my hand at a Metropolitans-inspired Kraken jersey. The striping pattern is based off of the logo, including the tentacle. Thoughts? C&C is appreciated!
  15. This isn't necessarily for next season, but here are renderings for a renovated Key Arena, one from each group vying to be the ones to make the changes. This would most likely give Seattle (according to their estimates) a team by 2020. .
  16. Well, no time like the present. With the forthcoming announcement of the Seattle NHL's identity, I thought it time to post what I had done, actually as a school project and now probably going to be the letterhead of my design portfolio. I was inspired by the history of airplanes as well as Boeing being founded in Seattle, along with the Museum of Flight in Seattle (awesome place, if you haven't been and have the chance, I would highly recommend). I do acknowledge the fact that the Milwaukee Brewers do own the copyright to the MLB Seattle Pilots, but for a concept, I ran with it. I loved the idea of a double green for the base of the color scheme. I wasn't sure about a tertiary color other than white, and with the Sonics still not back in town, I felt yellow would be a welcome addition. The primary logo was designed around the idea of pilots wings. Secondary logo is the Space Needle with the viewing deck(?) replaced with the same style wings as the primary logo. Wordmark is a block font with the wings on the ends of the P and the S, with Seattle just above it. I wasn't crazy about the roundel logo, but my professor felt there needed to be another logo, so this was something I whipped up rather quickly to beat the due date. So fun fact, these jerseys were actually what my NHL 19 expansion dynasty wore and it made things somewhat easy building the rest of the identity (hence Marner and MacKinnon being the jersey models). I can't explain why I used the Senators Centennial Classic jerseys, but I fell in love with the style and the colors. Went with the primary logo on the chest, Space Needle on the shoulders. For the font, I went with a blocky, almost current Jags style number font. Also, came up with an inaugural patch. Again, not crazy about it, but I think it's simple and gets the point across. Went ahead and imagined the expansion with an alternate jersey ahead of time. The roundel I'm not psyched about becomes the only real logo for this set. Yellow is dropped in favor of grey, with the exception of on the Inaugural Patch season. The striping changes a little bit with the dark green flanking a thin stripe of light green. C&C welcome!
  17. This is an idea I've had for a while, Basically I make an alternate for every NHL team, inspired by a uniform that a defunct franchise in the same city wore. I've got a list of defunct teams that each NHL team will have an alt for, but if you have any suggestions, feel free to say them, and I'll use that team instead. First up is the Anaheim Ducks, inspired by the RHI's Anaheim Bullfrogs. The Bullfrogs' jerseys weren't too crazy for the 90s, featuring a diamond yoke and diagonal side panels. For this concept, I changed the diamond to a triangle to fit with the template, and added a similar pattern to the Ducks' orange alt to the yoke ad side panels. I added the cuffs to make the arms less bare. Lastly, I changed the Ducks' gold to the yellow that the Bullfrogs used. Thoughts? C&C is appreciated!
  18. The Alaska Amaroks would be an NHL expansion team, based in Anchorage, Alaska. Since the Sullivan Center is not big enough to host NHL games, a new arena would need to be constructed. The team would draw support from all around the state of Alaska (market size of about 750,000), as well as the Canadian province of Yukon. They would play in the Western Conference. The franchise would be the only Big 4 (American Football, Baseball, Basketball, Hockey) sports team in Alaska. An Amarok is a giant wolf in Inuit (Native peoples of Alaska and the North American Arctic) mythology. Main Logo: Wordmark: Uniforms: The pattern on the wordmark and the uniforms is based on an Inuit art theme, and also represents the mountains in Alaska. The uniforms all feature the Big Dipper, which is depicted on Alaska's state flag. C&C Welcome and Appreciated.
  19. Okay so just to start off, I have no design sense whatsoever. So now that that's out of the way, let's get to the concept. I'm not really bored as much as I am lazy under the COVID-19 stuff, so I have forced myself to try to do something. I guess I'll try to design logos or something because why not. First, let's come up with a quirky and cool name. Under quarantine... what rhymes with quarantine... sixteen! Like a bracket! Because March! ..Right? Anyway, I decided I'd make concept logos for each major league, four for the NBA, NHL, MLB, and NFL, but I also want to do soccer, so throw in two for the MLS, making it eighteen. You may be thinking, that doesn't work for a bracket, and you're smart and you know that's right. But I came up with this brilliant idea at one in the morning, and when I woke up, I had already made a logo and posted it on Instagram so oh well let's make it up as we go. (why is the process of uploading images so strange?) Anyway, as you can see, I am very mature and professional. I tried to turn the toilet paper roll into a lowercase "q" (kinda like the Flyers with the "p"), but I don't think I really succeeded. I have mostly branded the series with just a single roll, and sports can be switched out by shoving them in the middle. I compiled a list of 36 cities and took to my Instagram and polled the poop out of the 12 people that follow me until it was down to the 18 logos to be made (if I stay motivated that long)
  20. I redesigned the Habs logo for an alternate jersey and instead of doing something based on their historic jerseys I decided to go super modern. The crest has 3 main parts. The very center is a Fleur De Lis in honor of their home province of Quebec (at the risk of drawing too much of a comparison to the Nordiques). I made it the center of an M for Montréal with the two “wings” on either side. I also separated the top part of the Fleur De Lis to make it the flame of a torch made from the bottom part, referencing the team motto “Nos bras meurtris vous tendent le flambeau, à vous toujours de le porter bien haut.” Or in English “To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.” The team’s hanger effect on their current jersey is the first part of that line, so I added the second part as this jersey’s hanger effect, completing the line of the poem and creating some vague symbolism of the classic jerseys passing the torch to this modern take. The chest and arm stripes were made thinner and modernized with the removal of the bottom white stripe and the addition of 24 ghosted Fleur De Lis on the chest, obviously representing the 24 cups they have won. I tried this jersey in blue at first, with the thought that there would then be a jersey in their arsenal for each color, “Bleu, Blanc, et Rouge”, but it kept looking either too much like a Rangers jersey or a Leafs jersey so I abandoned that idea and stuck with red. I know I will be labeled a heretic for messing with the Canadiens crest, but I thought it was a cool way to modernize the look of the oldest team in the league. Please C+C. Thanks in advance.
  21. Hello, it's my first time in a good while doing a logo series, but I thought I had some stuff worth sharing. This little series is based on the premise of the owners of the Milwaukee Bucks deciding to expand on their sports holdings and launch expansion teams in various other leagues. I have dubbed this hypothetical enterprise the Deer Sports Empire. Currently, aside from the Bucks they own the Wisconsin Herd. I will be leaving the logos for those teams as is, partially because I really like them and partially because the idea is the owners are launching new teams with similar branding touches (colors, font, etc). I also will not be touching MLB or giving them an NFL team as there's no world where those things would happen. These are the teams and leagues I plan to do so far. A couple are already done or close to finished. As suggestions (hopefully) are made and new ideas come to me I may add to this list. If anyone has a team in a league they would like to see, feel free to make suggestions. I dont have uniform templates for all the different sports so I'm just focusing on uniforms right now. 23. I for one have never liked the current Dallas Stars uniform set. They are a franchise in an nontraditional market and they gave them a traditional look. They need to be more unique with their look in my opinion. Let me know what you think.
  24. I was going through some old concepts I made and came across a concept I made back in 2013. I dusted it off and applied it to this template. I did have a little difficulty making the concept with this template so bare with me a little. Let me know what you think.
  25. Time for a new concept series! With pretty much every other major sports league (NBA, NFL, MLB) incorporating more elements into teams' uniform identities, it's time for the NHL to catch up with the times and allow teams to wear four different uniform options. The NBA has their "City", "Icon", "Association", and other weirdly named jerseys, so I modeled this series to that. Each team will have a designated "Home" (dark) and "Road" (light) jersey, as well as a "Pride" and "Honor" jersey. The "Pride" uniforms will be inspired by the team's hometown, state, or community. "Honor" jerseys will be direct throwbacks, modernized fauxbacks, or combinations of different eras to pay homage to the history of the hockey (on the "Honor" jerseys, the approximate year that is being brought back to life will be noted in the Player NOB). Let's start off with an Original Six team...The New York Rangers
