  1. I decided to re do the CFL logos because most of them are awful. Some of them turned out well, and some i'm not totally satisfied. my favorites are ottawa and montreal. working on toronto right now. Hamilton will be hard to do since they have a good logo. We'll see what happens
  2. This is a What-If concept series, so bear with me here. Timeline (WIP) Pre-CAAF (1995-2006) 1995: The CFL declares bankruptcy due to the falling Canadian Dollar, as well as the major debt accumulated by the failed CFL-USA.1998: CFL ceases operations, eight of the nine teams fold after public interest fades leaving Saskatchewan alone; Roughriders become a travel team.2000: Saskatchewan plays exhibition game using NFL Rules, dubbed the "Millenium Match", against Minnesota, the Vikings win 42-17.2001: NFL officials express interest in a Canadian Minor-Pro League, debates rage over a farm system. It is seen as a stepping stone to establishing American Football as a global game.2002: Green Bay visits Regina in the second game of the "Millenium Series", Saskatchewan is crushed 48-13.2003: Saskatchewan ownership and the NFL Commissioner meet with several NHL owners to discuss feasibility of new Canadian Football League.2004: NFL Board of Executives vote on Canadian Minor-Pro League after 3 years of meetings, it passes narrowly 19-13.2005: Saskatchewan Roughriders become first official team in the Canadian Association of American Football.2006: CAAF announces Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal as the first three expansion teams; Vancouver is named the Thunderbirds, Toronto revives the Argos, and Montreal becomes the Voyageurs. CAAF signs 5-year TV deal with TSN.Testing the Waters (2007-09)2007 Season: CAAF's Inaugural Season, Saskatchewan dominates the season going 6-2 losing to Vancouver and Montreal, Montreal finished second going 5-3. Vancouver went 3-5, Toronto went an abysmal 0-8. Saskatchewan beat Montreal 37-28 in the first "Canada Bowl".2008 Season: Vancouver surprises the league going 6-2, splitting their season series with the Roughriders, Saskatchewan splits their season 4-4 losing to each team at least once. Out east Montreal went 5-3, beating Toronto 4 times yet again. Toronto registered a win against Saskatchewan, bringing them to 1-7. Vancouver wins Canada Bowl II 28-24 over Montreal.2009 Season: Vancouver & Seattle start their "Cascadia Cup" exhibition series in Seattle, Seattle wins 48-17. Montreal goes a perfect 8-0, while Toronto goes 0-8 again. Vancouver manages to go 5-3, while Saskatchewan goes 3-5. Montreal wins Canada Bowl III 34-28 over Vancouver.Restoration (2010-14)2010 Season: League expands to six teams, adding a revived Calgary Stampeders club and the Ottawa Civics. Saskatchewan leads regular season, they go 9-3 losing to Montreal twice and Vancouver once, Vancouver obtains second place in the West going 7-5, while Calgary manages to go 3-9. Montreal leads the east again, they go 8-4, Ottawa made the playoffs going 6-6, while Toronto went 3-9.Saskatchewan beats Ottawa 42-38 to win Canada Bowl IV. I'll update the Timeline above as I go, but first I'll release the Vancouver Thunderbirds HOME AWAY FIELD
  3. Although I first posted the Boson/New England Hybrid logos it all started off the with my hometown, Toronto. I needed/still needed to tweak of the logos but here they are anyway. Toronto Raptors (Blue Jays) Hybrid Logo. I red did the font and use the Blue Jays logos clean line for inspiration but still can't not totally happy with it. I kept the original Raptors colours but this logo also looks good with the Blue Jays colours (below). This one is still a work in progress. I've been having a hard time getting this one jusssst right. Thoughts? Here's the logo in the Blue Jays colours with a different mouth. Which colour way do you like best? Toronto Blue Jays (Raptors) Hybrid Logo. \ This is my personal favourite. Using the original Raptors logo as inspiration by keeping font, layout, the legs and head position and making The Blue Jay hold a baseball and wear a baseball uniform. I kept the Jay's colours minus the red. Toronto Maple Leafs (Argonauts) Hybrid Logo. As dull as the Argos and Leafs logos are I did have to do something. Here I used the current Argo's logo, changed the "A" to a "L" and added maples leaves to the border of the shield. Toronto Argos (Maple Leafs) Hybrid Logo. I didn't have much to work with the Leafs logo. I re-did the entire font since its not available anywhere to download. I turned the Leaf into a "A" and kept the side of the leaf design so it didn't just look like a boring "A". Toronto Maple Leafs (Argos Classic Logo) I prefer the old Argos logo to the current one so I had to do another Maple Leafs Hybrid Logo based on the old one. Instead of the Argo I replaced it with a hockey player holding a hockey stick and a shield (couldn't think of anything hockey-ish to replace the shield). The helmet is changed to a hockey helmet with a leaf branded on it. Stuck with the old Argo colours. The line work needs to be cleaned up a bit. Thoughts, praise and criticism is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  4. Well it might seem a tad early but to start one, but it's been a unusually busy off-season, quarterbacks are changing teams, Ottawa is starting play this season, two new stadiums, the Argonauts might join the MLSE fold, the season schedule is coming out tomorrow, free agency is heating up.... ...oh and Arland Bruce said something stupid about Michael Sam and has probably played his last down of Canadian Football....
  5. Hello everyone, and welcome to my first post; i've been visiting and following the site for a while, and the last couples days I decided to participate in the Logolympiad 2014 ('cause I love sports & this site) and I'm happy that my concept finished in 3rd place (I want to thanks everybody that voted for my concept). My concept was for the alternate uniform of the Ottawa Redblacks / Rouge et Noir. For the concept I wanted to combine the past with the present, when they were the Ottawa Rough Riders and now as the Ottawa Redblacks, and used the name of their QB Russ Jackson No. 12 I hope you like it, and I love to hear what do you think, all comments are welcome! Sorry for my bad english ECA Thanks for visiting my post!
  6. These were just released the other day...I have past seasons as well...will post more versions as I can:
  7. Everybody has had a sport they never liked, or never bothered to care for. So I would be interested to hear what's your's. For me, it's Soccer and Hockey and NASCAR. I don't understand why people find wasting gas, tires, and turning left 90 times fun to watch.
  8. I think there are similar threads around, but with the Grey Cup next week, and reviewing some prvious Grey Cup games on video, here's a great uni matchup from 1992--Stampeders vs Blue Bombers. Both of these unis look great and should be ones that get used again--or something similar. Even though I am a Stamps' fan, I haven't liked all their unis after this one--and they tended to wear their alts in Grey Cups after this--and I never liked the back alts. I also think this Bomber uni is one of the best ever in CFL history, football history. 1992 Grey Cup post your own.
  9. Imagine this if you will. It's 2020. The CFL is becoming more and more popular all over Canada, and numbers of fans are increasing. Nike takes over the uniform and apparel contracts from Reebok, and each team gets redesigns. In addition, riding a high Canadian dollar and the building of more high-quality stadia all over Canada, the CFL expands dramatically; from 9 teams to a whopping 16 teams. 7 teams will play in the West, and 9 will play in the East. Here are the first two teams to be redesigned by Nike for the 2020 season; the BC Lions and the expansion Victoria Lumberjacks.
  10. Im rebranding the Ottawa redblacks because it seems a lot of people in ottawa don't like the name. ( i know, a little early) Im not sure on a name but i have two helmet options. Black Or Red? (This is my first football concept)
  11. I mentioned this in the Ottawa REDBLACKS thread, but the Stampeders made a minor change to their helmet mark for 2014...it now matches the new(ish) primary mark unveiled in 2012. (Click for a larger view) Old primary helmet (1995-2013): New primary helmet (2014-present): Old alternate helmet (2012-2013): New alternate helmet (2014-present):
  12. Hello, I'm new here and I wanted to make some concept CFL uniforms. I don't have photoshop so I did my best with MSPaint. I'd like to thank BigMike for making his MSPaint friendly QB template and whoever made the main template I used. Here's my atempt at an Argonauts uniform first So, what ya think. I know its kinda minor but I think their current look is one of their best ever
  13. The days getting longer and the weather getting warmer can only mean one thing: CFL season is almost here! The 2013 CFL schedule was recently announced and can be seen here. Notable in this season's schedule is the belated debut of the new Investors Group Field in Winnipeg, MB, the temporary relocation of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to Guelph, ON while their home stadium is demolished and rebuilt, and the re-appearance of the special Touchdown Atlantic Game in Moncton, NB. The 101st Grey Cup will take place on Sunday, November 24 at Mosaic Stadium in Regina, SK. One interesting piece of off-season news for the league is the recent completion of a $200 million television deal with Bell Media. The deal will see TSN and RDS continue to be the exclusive television home of the CFL in Canada (in English and in French, respectively) from the 2014 through 2018 seasons. This figure is being reported as more than double the value of the CFL's previous deal with Bell Media. (More here.)

    CFL Concepts

I originally wanted to create a concept to fix BC's awful new third, then I decided to do their full set, then I figured I might as well do the whole league. The first thing I did was ditch their horrid alternate logo. It looks like a child's drawing. Instead, I made one much more reflective of an actual mountain lion's paw. I also tweaked the wordmark, removing the silver, removing the small caps, and changing the extent to which it was skewed. For the home uniform, I added a helmet stripe, which is repeated on the pants, as well as sleeve striping (with the orange and white swapped out). The new paw logo appears above the NoB, which is now outlined to match the numbers and is a different, sans-serif font. The road is just an inverted version of the home. The alt is a fixed-up version of their current one. Gone is the monochrome black. I kept the orange stripe going down the side and paired it with the white pants to keep the stripe continuous. Like their current alt, the paw logo is much more prominent, here being featured on the sleeves. C&C appreciated!
  15. Hi everyone! It's been awhile since I posted a concept here. I became a bit exhausted with soccer concepts, and so needed a bit of a break. But today I've got a concept for another football code. The CFL expansion thread that was started here a couple weeks back, despite being light on actual concepts, generated quite a bit of discussion. I've often thought about where the CFL should expand next after Ottawa, with Halifax seeming to be next in line. But something that surprised me was the number of comments I've seen touting Kelowna as a possible place for a CFL franchise. I was intrigued. Kelowna is the largest city in BC's Okanagan Valley, a region with close to 400 000 inhabitants. As Canada's only true desert, it enjoys hot, sunny weather throughout the summer, perfect for vineyards and tourists (I'd be willing to bet the population of the Okanagan doubles in summer). A pro football team seems like a perfect addition to the summer economy of this region. I decided early that the team should be named after the area rather than the city of Kelowna, in order to appeal to a wider audience. Given that, the name Okanagan Lakers seemed like a great choice, as Okanagan Lake stretches through a large portion of the valley, and rolls off the tongue quite easily. I should mention that this name was also put forward by a number of people in the other CFL expansion thread. With a name like Lakers, blue seemed an obvious start for the colour scheme, representing both the lake waters and clear skies. From there, I thought that yellow is a colour under utilized in the league, and could represent the hot desert sun. A while back, ColorWerx had a thread where he suggested new colour schemes for teams. I went through that thread and found his proposed scheme for the Tampa Bay Rays. A sky blue helps differentiate from other blues like Winnipeg, Montreal and Toronto, and the addition of a dark grey helps modernize the look. Perfect. The problem with a name like Lakers is finding suitable representative imagery (something the LA Lakers don't even try to do). From some Google image searches I came up with ideas like anchors and waves, neither of which interested me much. I looked through the NFL logos on the mothership and noticed the Bucs flag logo (TB again!). Most boats have flags, boats float on lakes. It's a bit of a stretch, but that's ok. That's my thought process, here's the outcome so far. I'm planning on some uniforms eventually, but I'd like to nail down the logos first. C&C much appreciated! TL;DR: I made a CFL expansion concept for the city of Kelowna, BC!
  16. Any of you members a fan of American football jersey sleeve styles? If so, which do you prefer the best? wide-spreaded mid-sized loose sleeve jerseys (which are common for most quarterbacks like Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Phillip Rivers, Kirk Cousins, Christian Ponder, Matt Hasselback, Kurt Warner, John Elway, Vinny Testaverde, Brett Favre, Dan Marino, Jake Plummer, etc. (NFL) or Zac Taylor, Joey Harrington, Scott Frost (NCAA)), the wide baggy-ish, mid-sized tight sleeve jerseys (which are mostly common to most offensive/defensive skill position players (i.e.: running backs, wide receivers, tight ends, linebackers, defensive backs) and to some quarterbacks like Ken Dorsey or Chris Weinke) or short, tight micro-sleeve jerseys (which are mostly common for specifically offensive/defensive linemen)? Too bad that I couldn't make a poll for you guys to discuss and stuff, but feel free to reply your answers here. In my case, I top-personally like the wide-spreaded loose sleeves and the baggy-like mid-sized tight sleeves. It's just me.
  17. Tiger-Cats running some 1943 era throwbacks against the BC Lions today. Observe!
  18. Don't post much here but the Lions just unveiled their new 3rds right before the game against Calgary starting in a few minutes. Can't find pics yet but graphite/gunmetal black helmet, shirt, pants, socksnumbers are black too, outlined in orangenames are solid orangeorange paw logo on helmetSeems to be a genuine 3rd and not a one-off. Will post pics/screencaps when possible. EDIT: pic from post below
  19. ..or at least the organizers of this event that there is no CFL franchise known as the Atlantic Schooners...and that the Montreal Alouettes and Edmonton Eskimos are! found on http://101greycupfestival.ca/
  20. The day after suffering a horrible evisceration at the hands of Ricky Ray and the Toronto Argonauts, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers have made a feeble attempt at distracting their increasingly restive fanbase by introducing a new 80s-inspired third jersey. This jersey is essentially the same as the one that was worn from the early 80s until the end of the 1994 season, a time when the Blue Bombers were a dominant team in the CFL with Grey Cup wins in 1984, 1988 and 1990. The fans have been clamoring for this jersey for some time, mainly because it hits the nostalgia sweet spot for their fans (it's hard to get excited about 1950s throwbacks if you were born in 1976), and also because they are, quite frankly, a beautiful set of unis. My only gripe with these is the tiny looking sleeve logo. As I recall, the sleeve logos were much bigger back in the day... verging on double the size of what's shown in the image below. How hard can it be to look at some vintage photos of the old jerseys in action and actually get the details right? Oh well, other than that they're fine. They almost made me forget about the Bombers getting shredded last night. (Have any other CFL teams rolled out 80s-era thirds yet? I'm assuming that as with the 50s, 60s and 70s-era retros, this is a league-wide thing.)
  21. Was surfing around Ebay, stumbled on this... Any ideas???
  22. Hey guys. I was doodling around in class earlier in the week and it eventually evolved into this. I was wondering what you guys thought, and where I could improve it before I end up putting it into inkscape.
