  1. Breakdown of how this thread will work: Each division will be revealed one at a time. Teams will be seeded (and uniforms revealed) as they stand in the division as of 3/12/18. 2 teams will be revealed each day as we lead up to the beginning of the NHL playoffs. Once every team's uniform within a division is unveiled, a Top-3 vote will commence among the viewers of this thread. Voting will be open for 48-hours. A #1 overall vote will be worth 3 points, #2 vote worth 2 points, and #3 vote worth 1 point Once votes are casted for each division and are determined final, the team with the most awarded points will advance to the Final Four. In the event of a tie, tiebreaker will be the amount of #1 votes received. After the four division winners are determined, a new set of alternate uniforms will be unveiled Teams will be re-seeded according to how many points they received in the preliminary round Voting will then commence to determine which teams advance to the March Madness Final, and the two winning teams will be put up for a vote to determine the champion. For reference, here are the standings from 3/12/18 so you are aware of the original seeding: We will begin with unveiling the Central Division! #1 Seed: Nashville Predators #2 Seed: Winnipeg Jets As always, C&C is appreciated (all teams are completed fwiw). Let the madness begin!
  2. Every once in a while I come across a certain logo or color palette or design theme that gets my creative juices pumping like a Vitamix. A good creative vibe if you will. And when that vibe comes it lasts for a period that isn't short enough to let go by and isn't long enough to make a full hoopla out of. That can be very frustrating, so I started this thread as a casual release for whatever cool ideas pop into my head at any given moment without having to commit to a full series. AKA my version of a dump. And the vibe that has really caught my fancy as of late, is the sweet, sweet, dark comedy, creativity, and innovation that is a Great Depression era rubber hose animation cartoon. What's rubber hose animation, you might ask? Simply the original style of animating cartoon characters where their limbs look like, rubber hoses. Steamboat Willie Mickey Mouse, Popeye, and Cuphead are a few examples. I freakin' love that style, and thought, for what reason I'm not sure, that it'd be cool to transfer that style over to NHL Merchandise. Posters, Tees, etc. There's a newfound appreciation for those pioneering cartoons that has led to 21st century video game odes Bendy and Cuphead. So why not just for fun experiment and see what the heritage-minded NHL could do to implement the style into merch? After all 1930s cartoons and 1930s hockey have a lot in common, they're both dark, violent, entertaining, timeless, ...racist, but I digress. They have more in common than seems at first glance. And with the rubber hose stock at a surging high, I wanted to pounce on some exercises involving my fascination with both it and hockey. So here it is: So to start out, I knew I had to do something involving the Ducks, after all the team's owned by Disney, and since Wild Wing is a prime name for an classic cartoon character, I decided to make a poster along the lines of a 1930's theatre cartoon poster. I got most of my inspiration from examples like these: And voila, here it is! Wild Wing (modeled after the original Donald Duck, again Disney ties, with leather goalie pads and hockey sweater) starring in "Ducks in a R.O.W."! I'd love to hear you guys' ideas on how to flesh this out even further, as there will be some more to come, but for now what do you think of the first poster? Thanks for watching, that's all folks!
  3. I'm sure most of you are aware of the reputation that Comic Sans has in the design community, but for those who are unaware, it's regarded as one of the worst, most amateur fonts you can use. I'm sure less of you are aware of its usage in memes and s**tposting, often being used ironically to create humor by intentionally using it to mock it. With my combined interest in both of those, I one day had the bright idea of redesigning NHL logos that make use of text or a letterform, but use Comic Sans. Let's start out with a bang.
  4. I'm surprised this hasn't been threaded yet, hopefully it hasn't, but what are your favorite hockey goalie masks of all time? An obvious one, but still a legend and a personal favorite to start out:
  5. I've been messing around in NHL18 working on a custom league to post on the boards and as a break I decided to fix my favorite team (and hopefully future Stanley Cup Champion), the Tampa Bay Lightning. I like blue being the primary color but I'm sick to high heaven of the scrimmage jokes when they play Toronto. So black returns in a fairly prominent way
  6. I've always struggled with trying to make a logo for this team that I don't end up not hating. I like this one better than my previous attempts, y'all will have to let me know what you think.
  7. Hey everyone, this is my first time logging in to the forums since 2015. Not sure why, but I just kinda faded away for a while. BUT NOW I'M BACK. Back then, I was just a commenter and had no artistic skill or knowledge on how to create logos and uniforms, but since then I have worked on my skills in Photoshop. Currently, I am a sophomore at Springfield College and working as the Director of Hockey Operations for our mens ACHA club hockey team. (Just a fancy name for a team manager) I have been working on game day graphics and running different accounts and such. It is a lot of fun, but there is one thing we are lacking. That is a great logo. The school has gone dull and last year came out with a new logo which is a basic block 'S' similar to Syracuse and Michigan State. It is so dull and boring compared to other schools we play. So, I took it upon myself to create a new logo for our club hockey team. As of now, I am trying to get it approved so we can use it in future apparel and other stuff like that. I know it's really basic but it's my first real concept that I made on my own. Currently I haven't shown anyone other than some of the players and coaches, so still unsure if it can or will get approved by the school. Let me know what you guys think of it and if I should change anything around. Thanks!
  8. Finally got some time to mess around with these hockey uniform templates. I thought I'd try doing hockey uniform versions of the 4 final teams in the NFL playoffs. Never did a mash up before so thought I'd try it out. Wanted to see what the thoughts were. It's the Patriots, Jaguars, Vikings and Eagles. I took various parts of the design from elements of the football uniform, IE: Pant shell stripes from pants, socks from socks or sleeve striping and jersey elements influenced by the elements on the football jerseys. Really enjoyed doing these and experimenting a bit. I didn't change/adjust any of the team logos. I just used the versions that the teams use in the NFL. Hopefully this works.
  9. Hey Guys! It's been awhile but I'm back with an inline hockey logo! I took the Hershey Bears logo as inspiration mainly because of how mean and intimidating the logo looked. I chose a "Deer" because where the team is located in Northeast Pennsylvania, there is an abundance of white-tailed deer. Of course, I had to use black and gold because...well, i just really like those colors for a hockey team! (Go Pens!) Hope you guys like this one! C&C Welcome!
  10. This is still in the early stages, but I've put together a look for a Seattle NHL franchise based on one of the names listed as a possibility; the Seattle Sea Lions (or Sealions, SeaLions?). For the logo I'm taking inspiration from the AAU SeaWolves work I just did, I'm trying to work an "S" into the shape. and still use northwest coast tribal shapes. I've also been referencing photos of dominant male sea lions and using their distinguishing features (high forehead, prominent whiskers, thick neck/chest). This is just the first sketch, but let me know what you think of the look I have going so far.
  11. After nearly 3 years of working on this, I have finally completed what started out as a complete 59-team (now 60) re-design of every D1 hockey program in the NCAA. When I first started this I wanted to post them all at once, yet I had no idea it would take me this long to do. But here it is. Notes: - All jerseys were done with a CCM template simply for my sake of not having multiple templates. - The helmets in the pictures will seem off on some images, that's simply because I started off with having a home & away helmet and it was easier to just erase the one helmet instead of doing that and re-positioning it on every image. I eventually decided to just go with the singular helmet that they do presently. - Helmets don't have cages, this was an oversight. - Names on the jerseys are not up to date. Goes to show how long it took me to do this. - I tried my best to have every team have a unique striping pattern from each other. - Some jerseys build off jerseys that they team may have already used. 13. I recently entered a contest held by the Post2Post YouTube channel about redesigning the logo of current NHL teams. It was possible to send a entry for every team but I only entered with three. I chose the teams I already had an idea for which were the Coyotes, Oilers and Islanders. I could have done also the Kings logo but I ran short of time. I'm pretty happy with the overall result as all my logos made the top 63 and the Isles logo arrived 4th (it was 5th but then second logo got disqualified). Still, I was a bit disappointed for the other entries as I felt that in the previous contest they had way better entries in the top10 while in this one some were a tad weak. I'd like to hear some comment on my work as I mainly tried them out just because I really enjoy contests and events even if in the end my works are just average. Here you have the link if you want to have a look to the other entries. Here you have my entries I decided to redo the Coyotes logo just because I've always felt like their logo was nice but a bit too busy near the coyote's eyes and that the only animal head was a bit odd just like that. As a second I went with the Oilers also if I like their current logo (they are my favourite team) but I see that it is a bit outdated and in my opinion not old enough to be an historical one, like the Canadiens logo, so it should be updated. While I quite like the overall result of the drop on the gear wheel in the end I'm not completely ok with the helmet. It looked like a good idea to incorporate it but maybe the logo could have looked better without it. With the Islanders I had the easiest task as their logo is pretty awful. I know they won 4 Stanley Cups in a row with it, but the same I've said for the Oilers applies here. I know that the fisherman logo was higly hated but I think that it was a bold move out of the comfort zone they should repeat in the near future (without the teal please...).
  14. Does any one here have ties to LSUA or know anyone who does? They held a logo contest back in August & have yet to post anything about it. Wondering what became of it, I've tried to make contact but haven't had much luck. Below is the add they posted. If this is not the right place for this by all means please move it to where it belongs, thnx! https://www.lsua.edu/news/noteworthy/2017/08/01/lsua-athletics-logo-contest
  15. This is the night you love to hate. For this series, I am going to create a new set of uniforms for the teams playing on NBCSN's "Wednesday Night Rivalry" (stupid name, I know). Similar to how the NFL has their color rush games on Thursday nights, the NBA has their "statement" jerseys, and how many different "rivalry" uniforms are worn in college football, this would be the ideal time for Adidas and the NHL to showcase new designs on a national stage. There will be color vs color! There will be all new uniforms! There will be throwbacks, too! Stay tuned to see how this series unfolds. 11/1/17 - Philadelphia Flyers at Chicago Blackhawks
  16. Hey everyone, I work for my city's Jr B hockey club as graphic designer, and I've always had ideas for speciality jerseys that we could wear throughout the year. This November for Remembrance Day, I have designed a special Canadian Military themed jersey. It's based off of what Canadian Military personal wear when not in combat. Sadly this won't see the ice First time designing a jersey like this, let me know what you think!
  17. I really like the look of team specific ugly Christmas sweaters with the snowflakes, Reindeer and other Christmas related imagery but I could never justify spending the 80 dollars for something I'm only going to wear one month a year. So I decided to use my photoshop knowledge to make ugly Christmas sweater themed wallpapers for my friends and I. Here are some I've made so far let me know your thoughts.
  18. Over the past year or so, I've been working on concepts for IIHF teams. I think I got a little bit carried away. I've completed uniform designs for every single IIHF national team, including some other teams that haven't received IIHF recognition. 93 teams in all, 199 uniforms total. With Nike releasing the uniforms for this year's Olympics this week - and many not getting a good response - this felt like the right time to post these. All the designs can be found via this imgur link. https://imgur.com/a/KUXEJ Just to save you a click, here's what the teams taking part in this year's Olympics should (for me) look like.
  19. Just wanted to share a new template I created intended to display a uniform of any sort. Below are two finished examples, one with soccer, and another with football equipment. Message me to get a hold of a blank template with no watermark. It is saved as a png. file and I personally used paint.net. Nothing special just hoping it may spark someone's interest. Enjoy! I am accepting feedback to adjust as well.
  20. This is a league for noobs, bad pictures are inevitable, enjoy. First Concept: Albuquerque Phoenix
  21. It's been a long time since I've done an alternate history, my previous two, the original Ottawa Senators http://boards.sportslogos.net/topic/73848-what-if-the-original-senators-never-folded/ and the Montreal Maroons http://boards.sportslogos.net/topic/73802-what-if-the-maroons-never-folded/ Got some great opinions. but someone mentioned an idea (and I wish I remembered who) that intrigued me enough to go after, because it's nowhere near as straightforward as one would think. What if the NHL had taken more teams from the World Hockey Association? Of course we know that the NHL absorbed the Hartford Whalers, Quebec Nordiques, Winnipeg Jets, and Edmonton Oilers before the 1979-80 season, what if they took four more? Joining the NHL in this hypothetical are: Birmingham Bulls Houston Aeros Indianapolis Racers Cincinnati Stingers along with the usual 4. Now, this will cause some difficulties, for instance, the Minnesota North Stars wouldn't move to Dallas if there's already a team in Houston. Columbus won't be an NHL city if there's already a team in Cincinnati, and so on. However, I like following Doctor Who time travel logic in that some things are meant to be, so there'll be some familiar looks and logos throughout. So without further ado, the first team to be unveiled will be: Cincinnati Stingers Upon entry to the NHL, the Boston Bruins threw a fit over Cincinnati's jerseys, and rightfully so. They had just lost the battle over keeping the Pittsburgh Penguins away from black and gold, they wouldn't be beaten twice. The color they would add? Cincinnati Red. However, there wasn't time to redesign the uniforms that first season, and until proper jerseys could be ordered, red fabric was sewn overtop the original stripes. It would work for the first season. 1979-80 1980-88 The gold is lightened to yellow and a new look and logo introduced for the season. The Stingers were here to stay. 1988-94 At the end of the 1980s, teams were being discouraged from using gold at home in lieu of a white jersey. Cincinnati changes their home gold to white. To be continued...
  22. American Street League is a street hockey league that was supposed to resemble the BIG3 basketball league. Less players, a center, two wings and a goalie. First one to 10 goals wins. There are only 4 teams. Chicago Wind Sox, Green Bay Great Lakers, Los Angeles Californians and New York Boroughs. Side note - I would love to see an artist on here, who has actual skill doing this unlike myself, (lol) create a Street Hockey League kinda like the BIG3 basketball league. It seems like it would be a fun project with really creative teams and just a fun league in general. **Some of these logos have been used on a different username of mine that I forgot the password too.
  23. So this is one of a couple concept ideas I've had in my head. We're always talking about Original 6 Dress up and that got reignited when Florida redid their uniforms which bear a resemblance to Montreal's so it made me wonder, what would the league look like if every team had a chest stripe like the Habs. It's a fairly simple idea, and each team will have something unique about them. It won't be just a Montreal jersey template in Vegas colors. For the moment I have no plans on doing alternates for the teams, but I plan on doing the special event games and the all star tournament, but we'll see how this goes and I might throw in alternates. I also wanted to do these on an Adidas template, but I didn't have it ready in time, so I used the closest Reebok collar I had to the Adidas ones and rolled from there. I'm going from bottom to top based on final regular season standings, so if you want to see how this will go, go here (https://www.nhl.com/standings) and you can follow along. With that being said, I have the first two teams ready, Colorado and Vancouver. For the Avalanche, I tried to make a mountain-style chest stripe but it didn't work out how I wanted it to so I used the old alternates as inspiration for a stripe and then added the mountain pattern on the bottom hem I ditched the Orca for the Canucks, using the stick in the rink, and the Johnny + V logo. Used the stripes from the alternate, which is consistent throughout to the pants and the socks. Kept the one color numbers. C&C welcome on these two
