  1. There won't be any third jerseys in the NHL for the next season, but that hasn't stopped me from designing some anyways. I am happy to announce the start of my 2nd series on this site, "NHL Third Jerseys". I know, creative title, I hope that my concepts are a bit more creative. C&C is always appreciated! Below are direct links to individual concepts and will be updated as I post each new concept I post. Pacific Division Anaheim Ducks Arizona Coyotes Calgary Flames Edmonton Oilers Los Angeles Kings San Jose Sharks Vancouver Canucks Central Division Chicago Blackhawks Colorado Avalanche Dallas Stars Minnesota Wild Nashville Predators St Louis Blues Winnipeg Jets
  2. Just finished an 8 team fantasy hockey league using head to head scoring and wanted to share some of the work that I did to bring realism to fantasy sports. All of the work done was with photoshop. I think it turned out nicely. I will use this to promote an expansion to 10 teams instead of 8. Click here to view the slideshow of the Hardware that was won this season. The name of the league is "Ice Breakers FHL"
  3. Hello all, Recently I used this logo on a rally shirt! I want to put it into my portfolio but wanted to get some feedback on it since I have kind of been designing in a bubble lately. Here is the link if you want to buy one! Get this Blues Rally Shirt HERE! Thank you everyone, all feedback is welcome! LET'S GO BLUES!!!!!!!!
  4. (Edit 12/30/16) Took a break for a couple days but I will get back to it soon to do some fixes on LA, and Washington for sure..maybe some others) I wanted to start a project that would get my creativity going, and kind of kick-start me back into the mood of graphic design. I decided to create my ideal NHL. (formerly "perfect", but nothings perfect) This is what I personally would change, or not change as far as teams logos are concerned. I accept all thoughts, ideas, proposed changes etc..... ******NOT ALL THESE DESIGNS ARE MINE.****** Some are obviously based on teams past and present logo archives. Some are from concepts created that I found online. I will recognize each and every aspect of a logo, or entire logos that are not mine, and give 100% credit where credit is due. Most teams have a current logo, and a source logo (the logo used for my inspiration to my own) I will explain the best I can how I came up with the thought behind each chosen logo. I know most of them are color changes, but remember..this started as a project to get me motivated back into graphic design. There will be more custom projects to follow ANAHEIM DUCKS CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: SOURCE LOGO USED FOR MY VERSION: MY VERSION: (ALTERED ORIGINAL MIGHTY DUCKS LOGO) - I wanted to revert back to the old Mighty Ducks logo because I think it's more recognizable than the current webbed "D", it has attitude, and I just like it a whole lot better. - I felt the original colors were good to use since they are very unique, but I also wanted to incorporate the more 'orangey' orange for the sticks and the whole "Orange County" reference. - I removed the shading from inside the holes for the mask. ARIZONA COYOTES CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: MY VERSION: (REVERT BACK TO ORIGINAL PHOENIX COYOTES LOGO) - Pretty much the same thought process as the Ducks. I wanted the older logo because of its attitude. The new one just really really doesn't do anything for me. - I figure the old logo will do good with an updated jersey, with the use of the dark maroon, and off-white for striping. Keep the crazy amount of colors strictly to the logo itself. BOSTON BRUINS CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: MY VERSION: (ALTERED SHADE OF YELLOW) - Small change to the yellow. Made if more of a distinct yellow, instead of the often used "golden yellow" around the NHL. BUFFALO SABRES CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: SOURCE LOGOS (2): MY VERSION: - I really enjoyed the outcome of this one. - I asked myself, how could I make such a non-photogenic animal appear menacing for the Sabres. I like the total idea of the swords and the buffalo, but something just wasn't fully there for me to love it. I decided to remove the heavy blue from inside the circle, changed it to white keeping the overall look that people love, but giving it a modern feel. - Some people may not like the light grey within the white, but I attempted to make the wordmark and buffalo blue, and it just didn't give the look I wanted. I like the slightly subliminal approach. To each his own I suppose. CALGARY FLAMES CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: MY VERSION: (REMOVE BLACK OUTLINE) - Simply removed the black outline. Is it necessary at all??? CAROLINA HURRICANES CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: MY VERSION: (MODIFIED) - Changed the center to a more simplistic design. - Thickened the silver outline. - I feel as though there is a slight sense of movement the way it is offset. Didn't think this logo needed a major overhaul, but at the same time...something was not right. CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS (NO CHANGES MADE) COLORADO AVALANCHE CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: MY VERSION: (MODIFIED) - Removed the blue oval and thickened the outline. - I felt the oval took away from the sizing of the logo especially while on jerseys, and I felt that it really serves no purpose on a logo that isn't exactly symmetrical to begin with. COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: MY VERSION: (SWITCH TO BLUE AND OFF-WHITE ALTERNATE) - I HATE everything about the current primary Columbus uses. They overused red, white and blue scheme. And the primary logo that belongs at an All-Star game, not anywhere else to represent a professional sports team. - In comes the alternate blue and off-white canncon logo. Along with the jerseys they use to sport this logo. In my opinion this brings the overall look of the Blue Jackets from absolute worst in the league, to the top. They couldn't switch to this style in real life fast enough if you ask me. DALLAS STARS CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: SOURCE LOGO: **NOT MY DESIGN*** DESIGN CREDIT TO 'TORCH CREATIVE' MY VERSION: - I took the design from Torch Creative and changed the shade of yellow to a lighter version, getting away from the brown spectrum. - I really like the design those guys came up with, and I just can't stand the current one used by Dallas, just does not feel like a great concept to me. DETROIT RED WINGS (NO CHANGES MADE) EDMONTON OILERS CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: MY VERSION: - I darkened the blue, and added the copper color (once used by the team) as an outline for the orange. I think it adds a little bit extra, without taking away any of the classic aspects from the well known Oilers logo. FLORIDA PANTHERS CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: SOURCE LOGOS: (2) MY VERSION: - Not a fan of the new Panthers logo, I set out to create something that I always wanted to see, the old panther, slightly less detailed, jumping out of the sun. - I mocked this up against their older red jerseys and this logo really pops! HARTFORD WHALERS (TEAM ADDED) (NO CHANGES TO LOGO) - One of the greatest logos of all time in any sport. I just had to have the Hartford Whalers back in my perfect NHL, what's not to love? - Used original (lighter) blue and green. LA KINGS CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: SOURCE LOGOS: (2) MY VERSION: - I felt there were a ton better options than the current banner flag / shield thing the Kings have going on right now. (Even though they've had success with it) - I wanted purple back in the picture, along with the crown and the font from that era. - After messing around quite a bit, this modern shield is what I came up with. I'd prefer this on a black jersey. LAS VEGAS KNIGHTS CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM:(ALL LEGAL ISSUES ASIDE) MY VERSION: - Added the 'Las' to Vegas because it's just better. - With the LA Kings change to purple for my project, I figured silver would be the best way to go for the Knights. The dark color is an EXTREMELY deep blue, almost black, and the unique shade of red outline reminds me of the Canucks when they went blue and red. At the same time this feels different to me. - Looks a ton better than the current mud in my opinion. MINNESOTA WILD (NO CHANGES MADE) MONTREAL CANADIENS (NO CHANGES MADE) NASHVILLE PREDATORS CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: SOURCE LOGO: MY VERSION: - I wanted to get away from all the golden yellow parody in the NHL, so I chose to give Nashville a more mellow yellow. - I altered the sabre-toothed cat to be more fierce. - The dark color is a really deep greenish blue with I feel contrasts the yellow pretty well. - All in all the changes feel pretty drastic, yet at the same time its all so familiar, I think this change would become very welcome in Tennessee once the bright orange/yellow memory wore off. NEW JERSEY DEVILS (NO CHANGES MADE) NEW YORK ISLANDERS (REVERT TO OLDER COLORS) CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: MY VERSION: (ONLY CHANGED BACK TO 97/98 SHADE OF BLUE) - I think the darker blue really really brings out the orange over the lighter blue. There's really little else to be said about this classic gem of a logo. NEW YORK RANGERS (NO CHANGES MADE) OTTAWA SENATORS (CHANGE TO TEAMS ALTERNATE AS PRIMARY) CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: MY VERSION: (ALTERNATE LOGO FROM SENATORS ARCHIVE) - I do not like the current Senators logo. At all. I see what they were going for, but in my opinion, it failed. Meanwhile they have this beauty^ as an alternate. They need to make the switch ASAP. PHILADELPHIA FLYERS (NO CHANGES MADE) - My favorite team!!! Sweeeeeeet logo. PITTSBURGH PENGUINS (REVERT TO 'ROBOPENGUIN' BUT USE BRIGHTER YELLOW) CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: MY VERSION: (REVERT BACK TO THE ROBO-PENGUIN OF THE 90'S) - Although I really actually do like the skating penguin a whole lot, I feel the infamous robo-penguin is much classier and noble. It was a back and forth on this one. QUEBEC NORDIQUES (TEAM ADDED) (LOGO TWEAKED) ORIGINAL LOGO USED BY TEAM: MY VERSION: - I thought the original Nordiques logo needed to be touched up slightly. The darker red makes the lighter blue stand out to me. Hopefully to everyone else also. SAN JOSE SHARKS (SWITCH TO 25TH ANNIVERSARY SWIMMING SHARK) CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: SOURCE LOGO: MY VERSION: - It's hard to go wrong with any of the sharks logos, so I chose to go with the version without a triangle behind. Love these damn logos, top notch. ST. LOUS BLUES CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: MY VERSION: - I wanted to go with the lighter blue for the inside, it just felt better than having the darker version. TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING (SWITCH TO ALTERNATE LOGO) (COLOR CHANGE) CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: SOURCE LOGO: (ALTERNATE FROM LIGHTNING LOGO ARCHIVE) MY VERSION: - Didn't like the use of such a dark blue when I felt a lighter, more "electric" blue would look GREAT with a black jersey. (The letters and bolt(s) on the inside will stay white. Really brings the team identity to life. TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS (NO CHANGES MADE) VANCOUVER CANUCKS (SWITCH TO JOHNNY CANUCK LOGO AS PRIMARY) CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: MY VERSION: (ALTERNATE FROM CANUCKS LOGO ARCHIVE) - It does take a little getting used to seeing this guy in all his glory on the front of a jersey (pictures do exist), but it's well worth it, and I think it would finally give all Vancouver fans what they really wanted all along. WASHINGTON CAPITALS (MODIFIED ALTERNATE 'WEAGLE' LOGO AS PRIMARY) CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: SOURCE LOGO: (ALTERNATE 'WEAGLE' FROM CAPITALS LOGO ARCHIVE) MY VERSION: - This really could be my favorite creation from the whole set. I was back and forth on if I should keep the sticks or not, but they balance out the 3 stars that represent the D.C. flag. WINNIPEG JETS (COLORS ALTERED) CURRENT LOGO USED BY TEAM: MY VERSION: - I just don't believe the grey is necessary. Although it doesn't look bad on the logo as a whole, the current jerseys they use (beautiful in my eyes) don't really call for grey to be used, so I decided to make a more jersey friendly version. Don't miss out on the white outline that makes the whole thing look great on, you guessed it, those b e a u t i f u l jerseys!!! That's it (for now) Let me know what you guys think!!!!!!
  5. Hey everyone! So, with the 16/17 regular season having just come to an end, i figured I'd get a start on some jersey concepts for the highlights of the 17/18 season, the outdoor games. I'm not sure how long it'll take me to complete them, but I will finish all 8 teams before the season starts. So without further ado, here's my first team of the NHL 100 Classic, the Ottawa Senators!
  6. Have you always wanted to talk about Roller Hockey International logos and jerseys? No? Well, here it is anyway.
  7. This may sound crazy, however Florida would make a great place for an outdoor game, probably a stadium series game. The perfect place would be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers stadium (Raymond James Stadium). Tampa Bay can reach the temperature of nearly 32 F, a perfect temperature and can sustain ice long enough. This would be perfect for these two Florida teams, shedding much press attention on what would have otherwise been a fairly unnoticed event by them. The jersey were based off the old Tampa jerseys mashed together and were meant for Tampa only, however the Panthers looked too good in them to pass by. Generally the theme besides storm vs sun is retro jerseys. The arena would be set up with palm trees all around the outskirts similar Minnesota's pine tree display. There would be a small picture above the arena of a sun facing off against a storm, pushing against one another. This would be between the logos. When the Bolts come out lightning coils will activate as they walk in. When the Panthers walk in fire will erupt followed by gold-ish smoke. Worst case scenario it all melts .
  8. I've had this template for a while, and have decided to do something with it. I've made the "Bubble" template. It's a simplified, circular hockey jersey template, that can be used for current jersey replicas and concepts alike. Below are some examples. Some of them might be a little rougher than others, but they all come across in a simple, minimalist fashion. CLICK HERE FOR THE DOWNLOAD LINK!
  9. I think my concept here better suits the German national team but I still like the look of it lol. The double stroked Flames logo and the three variations of it drive me a little crazy so I went with a simple, sleeker approach with the whole concept. The bigger story here however is the mockup. I found this free template online by one Sean FF and it was in a pretty rough shape. So I completely overhauled it, adding smart objects, more options, shading and lighting, cc, but most importantly cleaning up the edges. She still isn't the best Ps mockup in the world but she can get the job done. I offer this updated version for free to you all and would love to see you guys come up with. Thanks and Thank you Sean FF for your template! Download Link; https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BxTJxMdfzK0raEx1cktwamRWa0U
  10. I've had a big lack of inspiration for a while, but I decided to force myself to make something. That resulted in the following Milwaukee Admirals concept. I tried to add more of a military vibe, and added yellow since the team always has a Milwaukee Brewers patch on their jersey somewhere. I wanted to make a set of jerseys with the admiral stripes on the cuffs, but I couldn't figure out how to incorporate it best on the home jersey. The differences in these jersey sets are all in the arms. Set 1: Set 2: Set 3: Which one do you like best? Do the jerseys look good? Let me know!
  11. This was @JJ Anderes' and my entry into the HJC Pairs comp. We ended up winning it, so thanks to HJC and all who voted! Anyways, let's dig into this. The concept was to make some logos and uniforms for a future all star game. We chose to put the NHL's All Star game in Denver, Colorado. Below are JJ's logos, and my uniforms. It was a lot of fun working with JJ, and he definitely made some incredible logos. Thanks for watching!
  12. I had been putting off the start of this project for a while and then I remembered school is right around the corner and so I thought it better to get it going as soon as possilble. As the title and header image suggest, it's time for another NHL redesign from me. The last one I did came in 2013 and looking back on it, was just awful. I hope that in the 3 years since, my skills have gotten better. Anyways, its another NHL leaguewide redesign, and even with Adidas taking over, I left all the jerseys Reebok branded. Lets get in to it. The last time I ran through the NHL, I was very sloppy, this time I hope to not be a walking disaster. Anyways, here's a couple rules I'll hope to follow: NHL sets a rule on jerseys: 5 can be in the rotation for any given season. Special event jerseys (Winter Classic, SS, Heritage) can be worn after their event if the club desires. Just means one of the 5 pre-determined jerseys gets worn one less time that season Have to have a designated home and away set, but the other 3 can be alternates, throwbacks, what have you. I think one team has 5 jerseys but you'll see why when I get to them. The Bruins are not the team, and here they are: Call me crazy, but I don't think too highly of the EDGE Bruins uniforms. The overoutlining ruins it for me. Plus, I'm just not a fan of the uniforms. Call it unpopular if you want. I went back in time on their look. -took the stripes from the '69-'74 jerseys -kept the more modern looking yoke design -deleted a few outlines from the spoked B, which improves the look drastically IMHO -BRUINS bear logo graces the shoulders. -single color NOB, also fixes the look. -home socks stay yellow, but both sets reflect the jersey stripes now. -black pants now feature standalone B on the pant leg. Alternate: Having two black jerseys feels really redundant to me, and so elevating the Winter Classic jersey to me felt a very lateral move. So I played with the design a little bit, because I was a big fan of said WC uniform. -basically flipped the colors on the WC jersey from this past year. -big ass stripes on the sleeves, and one big ass hem stripe. -modern bear logo on the chest. C&C welcome and will have Buffalo up next.
  13. I personally think that some of the extinct hockey teams looked the best. The Whalers, Nordiques, Rockies, Jets, etc. had some of my favorite hockey designs ever, and instead now we get to feast our eyes on the Hurricanes and Avalanche. Sad. So, This is basically my attempt to rewrite history, if the new franchises continued the look of their formers, Starting out with the Whaler-Hurricanes. The whalers had one of the best logos in all of sports history, and awesome uniforms and color scheme to boot, which helps to make the Hurricanes design more unique. C&C appreciated, and although I have some more on tap, let me know what you'd like to see next! Thanks!
  14. Inspired by the chaos and fights in this thread, I decided to update the Colorado Avalanche's logo. Here it is below. It isn't a whole lot better than their current logo, but I tried to go off of what everybody in the thread said. Make the 'A' smaller and not-curved, and turn the oval into a circle. Only thing I did on my own was brighten the burgundy. I threw it together quickly and I don't like it that much, but I figured it'd be worth it to post. What do you think?
  15. Hey Guys! So I know there are a lot of logos similar to this one. I designed this logo for a in-line hockey team. It's a train. It has colors. Hope you like this one! C&C Welcome!
  16. Here is my new concept idea for the Nordiques... Maybe its more of a AHL looking logo rather then a NHL logo but I think its a fun idea that would represent the Nords return to any league. The igloo is the primary and the polar bear is the shoulder patch logo. Comments and critiques are welcomed!
  17. I missed out when everyone else was making their uniform predictions for the Golden Knights and we're running out of time before concepts become tweaks so here's my go at it.
  18. Earlier this summer, around the end of the school year, I had this idea for a series. I asked my other designer friend, Rana, if she wanted to do it with me, and now, at the end of the summer, I think we’re finally ready to show off what we have done. We aren’t completely finished yet, as it takes a while to completely rebrand 30 teams, even for just the logos. The jerseys will come later. If you’ve seen @ldconcepts's thread which was based off of this series, you’ll have an idea of what’s going on. Ours is a little different though. Our goal was to take one team’s logo or namesake, and design their logo with the same style or theme as another team’s. After that, we’ll do the reverse. Unlike Lucas, we paired each team together with one other team, and just swapped those two. The pairings were chose mainly on what we could come up with ideas for, not rivalries or anything (that does happen a few times, though), In order to leave a bit of surprise. I won’t tell you guys the pairings yet. But I will give you a list of 15 teams, all of them being paired with a team that isn’t on the list. When I unveil a team, I’ll put the pairing here too. Anaheim - Dallas Arizona Boston Buffalo - Chicago Calgary - Edmonton Carolina - Columbus Colorado - Winnipeg Detroit Florida - Nashville Los Angeles - Toronto Minnesota Montreal New Jersey Pittsburgh - Washington St. Louis - Tampa Bay Below in this spoiler tag will be an image with a compilation of any logos unveiled. Check the posts in the thread for a more in depth description/larger image of them.
  19. Let me start by saying that this is NOT intended to replace the grinning Goldy. Also, I KNOW that the school would not replace the current Goldy with this one. After I did the Michigan Wolverine and Wisconsin Badger I thought I'd try to give a similar feel to the Minnesota Gophers. I used the 13 striped ground squirrel for reference; no it's not a gopher but judging by Goldy's tail it's what he is based off of and many people call the ground squirrel a gopher. I think it turned out to have a good balance of cute and fight. Comment with your thoughts.
  20. Figured we could have a spot for all things college hockey, logos, jerseys, regular old convorsations about the games themselves. please delete this thread if I have missed a pre existing thread. What do you think of the "50th Season Throwback" for the riverhawks, I was at the game a few days ago and I personally enjoyed the Jersey in action.
  21. Before I'm away for the weekend, I thought I'd leave you with this new design and a few thoughts. I was recently inspired to draw-up a falcon image and while working it out I chose to think metacognitively about my process. What follows are a list of some of the thoughts that were........thunk. 1. Lets see what a falcon looks like Search for falcon images 2. Falcons have big eyes and a small beak compared to eagles and hawks, that's a distiguishing feature Draw out the shape of a basic falcon head 3. An angled pose would be most dynamic Search falcon in stoop or stooping falcon stooping is a funny word Add more slant to composition 4. They almost have an innocent look to them 5. Try to keep some of the innocent look 6. I wanna keep that ring around the eye, that's a distiguishing feature 7. Since the eye doesn't have much anger, what makes them scary? They are FAST..... lightning shapes They have a black colored eye... no yellow in the eye itself like hawks and eagles, that's a distiguishing feature Search falcon screeching 8. Erase closed beak, draw in open mouth 9. Keep dark portion of beak, that's a distiguishing feature 10. Work in the dark shape in the feather colors on the face 11. Huh, that doesn't look half bad References used:
  22. Sports has been a part of my life since the beginning. One of my biggest interests in design is sports identities. When I was young I was often drawing a team logo, colouring in a jersey or creating my own versions. In mid–2016 I took on a 70 day challenge for a project I was doing in school. I knew this would be tough to handle so I decided the make it more suitable to my interest. The goal of this challenge was to redesign an existing sports logo every day for 70 days. Each logo redesign involved preliminary research about the team/city, sketching out all my ideas on paper, executing a digital version through Illustrator. I ended up creating a booklet with small rationales for my thinking, design choices and overall thoughts on the project. Sportslogos.net was a place I went to every day to discover new teams to redesign.
  23. The Rocky Mountain Rage was an obscure team in the Central Hockey League that played in Broomfield, Colorado. I grew up with them. The little outdoor rink I played at in a nearby town sold tickets to the games, so my family and I would always buy tickets and go to the games. Even though we only got one or two games per year through the rink, we bought a ton of other tickets and saw the team a ton. The product on the ice was never that good, (They were notorious for blowing huge leads in the 3rd) and the seats were never full, but we still loved them. Hell, I still own a Rage hat shaped like a hockey helmet and a Rage jersey, which was the basis for most of these designs. I also noticed that there are no good, high-quality versions of their logo online. Below is a recreation of it to the best of my ability. If anyone ever wants to use it or someone wants to add it to the motherboard, go ahead. Also, below is the best recreation of the jerseys I could make from before their end. Here is my redesign. Not a ton of changes. Here's my redesign. The waist striping is honestly the only change, because I love the flames on the arms. It's a lot more like the previous Avalanche jerseys, with the mountains and all. I know it's not a humongous cahnge, but what do you guys think?
  24. The title of the thread says it all... I will be posting my predictions for what I think the NHL/Adidas will be unveiling for their league-wide overhaul next season, as well as changes I would make/what I want to see. We know a few details for what to expect - such as the Oilers wearing their orange alts full time, the Devils rebranding, etc - but according to @Chris Creamer, some teams won't have major changes. So first up... 1) Washington Capitals Prediction: rumor has it that the Caps are thinking about switching to their retro-throwbacks full time. Wish List: a combination of throwback and modernization 2) Tampa Bay Lightning Prediction: they switch to their current third jersey's template to stray away from the Maple Leafs/Red Wings comparison Wish List: bring back the unique Hawaiian blue and throw in some more black Florida and Columbus are next....C&C appreciated.
