  1. I decided to start up a fantasy league known as the Earth Hockey League. It starts off with four teams: Washington Speedsters (US) Victoria Foxes (CAD) Tokyo Roses (JPN) Mexico Reds (MEX) The rosters are filled with NHLers. The rosters will be released soon. Here's where they'll play: Washington: Verizon Center (where the Capitals play) Victoria: Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre (where the Royals play) Tokyo: The Big Hat (where the ice hockey events in the 1998 Olympics were held) Mexico: Monterrey Arena
  2. I know that there's been a handful of threads like this in the past, but I think it would be really cool if we could eventually come to a consensus of what the ugliest pro sports logos are, with this eventually going over to polls. The goal here is basically just posting in this case NHL logos, the other 3 major sports will come in the future (no offense soccer fans), and voting based on likes for which logo is most hated by the board members (one logo per post). The top ten or so voted ugliest logos will go over to polls where the winner (or I guess loser) will be decided. So, to start things off, in my opinion the ugliest NHL logo ever, the Phoenix Coyotes' Desert Lizard.
  3. Forgive me if this has been posted on the boards before, but in 1972 the National Film Board of Canada released a film called "Just Another Job." The film chronicles the first year of the Nordiques and the stories of its players. It's a fantastic hockey documentary you can watch on YouTube: https://youtu.be/evPkmSAZBdo Around the 13 minute mark, the designer of the Noriques logo and uniform is interviewed and discusses his orginal concepts. He explains that he originally developed a blue logo and jersey but was asked instead to do blue, white, and red. He explains that blue, white, and red were more establishment colors of another generation and associated with Montreal, but they work because they make everyone feel connected to the team. Seeing the color concept I immediately think of the Nordiques' abandoned '95 rebrand. Also, this movie has amazing footage of classic WHA jerseys.
  4. If DEL had a deal with Nike. Augsburger Panther Adler Mannheim
  5. Welcome to my NHL re-Introduction series! In this series, I re-introduce each NHL team by altering the look that they entered the NHL with. I'll be doing each team in the order they entered the league, starting with the Montreal Canadiens. I've elected to only do teams that currently exist in the NHL today in some way shape or form, so my apologies to fans of former teams like the Quebec Athletic Club. However, every major rebrand and relocation (such as Whalers to Hurricanes, etc.) will get featured. Each concept will be appropriate to its time period, and have a little historical context for fun. C&C is much appreciated! Montreal Canadiens (1917) The Montreal Canadiens enter the NHL as an inaugural team in 1917. With them enters the most iconic uniform in sports. I chose not to change too much. I did flip the blue and white on the striping, and made the hem stripe the same style of the chest stripe. HOME ARENA- Montreal Westmount Arena CURRENT US PRESIDENT- Woodrow Wilson MAJOR EVENT- US declares war on Germany, entering WW1 FAMOUS BIRTH- John F. Kennedy
  6. Me & my gf are joining a hockey league and I want to make her a custom pink jersey for Xmas with out cat (Catface) as the logo... still needs to be rendered/vectored, but figured I would look for feedback first! And if anyone has any embroidery/jersey hookups, I would appreciate some guidance!
  7. I personally like the red home jerseys, but as an alt, not the home jersey. So I came up with something else. Feedback is appreciated.
  8. I got curious about the Thunderbirds' jerseys, and I was underwhelmed. They're not awful, but they seem like an unnecessarily templated mess that tries too hard to be modern. Here's my fix. Home Away Alternate The home and away are classic, but modern, designs that I make quite often. The alternate is based on the Panthers' new home jersey, since the T-Birds are the Panthers' minor league affiliate, and that's that. Pretty simple. What do you think?
  9. According to various outlets (I believe Icethetics as well as Chris Creamer), the NHL will be ditching all of the currently in use third jerseys once the league's uniforms are taken over by Adidas. So with this in mind, I am dedicating this series to reintroduce the "third" or "alternate" jersey back in to the league. While we don't know the extent to which Adidas will be making changes to each team's uniforms, my goal is to incorporate certain simplistic and templated trends that have been apparent in Reebok's latest unveiled uniforms to make this series realistic without limiting creativity. In addition to most of the alternates that will be unveiled, I will be taking a page out of Nike's "Color Rush" campaign, and introduce "Colorway" uniforms that are meant to bring out each team's unique color identity. 10. Introducing the NHL Pastel Series. It's essentially a series where I'll make an alternate jersey for every team in the NHL, but with pastel colors. Some of these are out of the box, some of these are minorly changed versions of current jerseys, but they all use a calmer set of colors. Anaheim Ducks: With the Ducks I went back to their inaugural jerseys. They're not exact, but I think it looks pretty good. That's pretty much all there is to say on it.
  11. This is just an addition to the logo I made a while back. A concept logo for the Oilers.
  12. Here's another series presented by Jay_FS_Designs: I'm creating hockey jerseys for all current NFL teams. For some teams I'm transferring the current jersey designs onto a hockey jersey. For others I create a complete new design the fits the identity. All feedback appreciated
  13. United Hockey Alliance A project by Steelman Introduction I’m going to be honest. I love simulated sports. I love fictional leagues and histories. I actually have created dozens of leagues. But even though I’m a media guy by trade, I suck at drawing/creating logos and have also been in a creative rut. So I’ve never really posted anything, minus the very short-lived Brenland Football League. I may have to use an ungodly amount of clipart in the beginning but I believe this will help me out of my funk. I've always liked Hawkfan's work with the PHL and lately I’ve been inspired by JCR’s World Hockey League even though I’ve never been much of an avid hockey follower. I do like the game but was always too much of a football nerd to ever religiously follow hockey. Since diving into the WHL and having to research endless player stats to stay afloat, I’m officially amped about hockey. So I’m going to give it a shot. A small, fledgling hockey league starting in 1940. This will be very loosely based on the NHL but not constrained by it. In addition to creating the initial teams and uniforms, tracking owners, coaches and players, and simulating fictional seasons, I’ve been developing a small simulation engine that tracks other factors. I’m calling it the “Franchise Five Score” or “FranScore” and it will track five categories that could impact a team’s success or failure on a yearly basis: City Support Team Morale Fan Loyalty Fan Excitement Financial State The last one is the biggest factor as technically every team in the league could fold in the process of progressing through seasons, but it’s weighted toward teams who win and go to championships. I’ll add more details on how it works later on. For now, every team starts on an equal playing field. Everything will be randomly generated though, except for the season standings, which I will create by taking each team's overall score and simulating with Xkoranate. I won’t be tracking player stats per se, but there will be awards given at the end of the season based a variety of factors which will be added to each player’s career log. Players and coaches do, however, have a 1-10 rating which counts toward each team’s overall score. Without further adieu, the United Hockey Alliance. For the league logo, I really wanted something that was unique and could be vintage by the time it was phased out. The hexagon is probably an unusual choice but I thought it paired well with the sticks and center circle. I also added the date of establishment, although I'm so-so on having it. Thanks for checking this project out, I look forward to seeing this progress. I gladly welcome all C&C and suggestions for what is era-appropriate. I admit I'm not as much of a hockey nerd as I am football, but oddly I've found it easier to design logos and identities for hockey teams than football teams. Maybe because I know less about hockey history? I dunno. Any questions or suggestions about the league, people, and time period are also welcomed. If you have operational suggestions or comments though, please PM me, so as not to confuse the thread. The league prologue and initial team introductions will be coming up next.
  14. I hope this logo I made pleases your eyes, its for a fictional hockey team called the Hampton Firestorm.
  15. This is a Nordiques logo that came to me in a day dream, I personally love it. I have made some tweeks, following some recommendations and have given you three different colored combinations. I have lots of hope that the Nordiques return and something like this is what they should look like when they hit the ice at the Centre Videotron in beautiful Quebec City. Please tell me what you think, which colors (jerseys) do you prefer? *plus Bonus alternete jersey Original draw'n by hand, this version was created on sketchbookexpress. 18. I decided to try and redesign a logo by hand for the first time. Printed out a sheet full of the logo I wanted to trace and redesign, pulled out some parchment paper and started tracing the parts I wanted and modifying by hand the parts I did not want. I then took a picture and traced it all over again in Illustrator and made more changes there. All in all, I actually dig how it turned out. If Let me know what you think! Looking at it now, a change I might make is to make the circles of the crown white and maybe make the beard look less like an "M" although I had the idea of maybe just making this a Manchester Monarchs redesign (Kings ECHL affiliate). Thanks for reading and let me know what you think!
  19. Hey all. Here is my take on a new home jersey for the Minnesota Wild. I think their current home jersey has too much red, and feels like it classhes with the green, however I did not want to get rid of it all together. I also think that Minnesota's logo is beautiful and should be showcased. So I chose to use that logo instead of the roundel one the team currently uses. Let me know what you guys think.
  20. So I was browsing the site and found the Hurricanes "Canes" wordmark. Like the Sens' old 3rd, I decided to use it in a concept for a new 3rd for the Hurricanes. What do you think? This is my first concept here, so C&C is appreciated!

  22. So I decided to try and make my own template for when I make my jerseys. This is the first time I have done anything like this, so C&C would be appreciated!
  23. So today I decided to drop a new Coyotes jersey. I wanted to incorporate the old style into the new, so I used the old striping on a red base. I also wanted to use the "sienna" colour more, hence its use in the logo and its also mixed into the sand striping. C&C is appreciated!
  24. Introduction The year is 1919 and hockey is increasing more and more in popularity, not just Canada but in the states aswell. There are a bunch of small hockey Leagues scattered around Canada and the northern parts of the u.s. There is no major League where the very best teams can match up against each other, partially because the is no league that coveres a larger geographical area. The owners of two of the most eminent Canadian teams, Toronto Ontarians and Ottawa Speed, seeked out to form a league with the very best teams around, hoping to get some good match up and to attract more people to their games. After many meetings and discussions the it was officially announced that the UHL - The Universal Hockey League - was going to have it´s inaugural season in the late fall of 1920. The teams that were going to participate were: -Toronto Ontarians -Ottawa Speed -Rochester Nationals -Hamilton Hammers Having a League mixed with canadian and american teams had never been done before which which both intrigued and made people raise their eyebrows.
