  1. Hello all! I'm starting a brand new redesign of the NHL. I did one in 2022, which feels like so long ago already. That was my ideal NHL redesign. This is similar, it is my ideal look, with the Fanatics branding. With my last redesign, I tried to stay pretty true to what I think the teams could do, staying within a realm of possibility. For this one, I wanted to throw out any realistic designs, and just go with what I'd love to see. I won't say they're too crazy, but some of the more classic designs will definitely see some changes. The biggest thing some people may notice, is the minimalist number design. I'm a huge fan of one colour numbers, and I want to stick to that for each team, just for my own thoughts, to see how it'll look. Not because I'm lazy lol, though maybe that played into it at some point. The plan will be to drop each team's home and away first, and then go through alternates and classic uniforms. I'll even add a bonus All Star Game concept in there somewhere, something I made for a Twitter contest. With that said, first up is the Anaheim Ducks! Not much of a surprise, and not much change for this one in terms of design from what you may have seen already. The striping pattern on the arms match the 30th anniversary uniform they dropped this year, and the waist stripe matches the old Mighty Ducks uniforms. So a little combination of eras. Nothing really new here, but this is the only direction they should go if they change their design, in my opinion. The orange will return for the alternate though. You know what, let's drop two right away, because the Ducks weren't too interesting. The Boston Bruins! Another blast back to the past for Boston. Back to back. You may also notice that Arizona didn't come next, I didn't forget them, don't you worry! I loved the switch the Bruins did for this season, and I will be disappointed when they return to their previous logos and uniforms next season. I think they hit it perfectly with the rebranding this season, and sticking with it is the best move possible. I changed the striping to fit a different era than what they chose for this season, but those logos, they're a thing of beauty, and I had to use them for this redesign. The first two teams may seem underwhelming, but don't worry, there's some interesting looks to come!
  2. NHL's pre-season schedule begins a little over a week from today, the regular season beginning is less than a month away, making this as good a time as any to begin this season's NHL thread. To kick it off - Mike Babcock's Columbus career might not make it to opening night.
  3. So this is a thread with designs for the National Hockey League, just like it says on the tin. All of the designs here use the NHL Puck logo from the 1990's (I dig that logo), and all teams will get a home, road and alternate. Vancouver Canucks Seattle Kraken Toronto Maple Leafs (Road V2) Washington Capitals (V2) New York Islanders Buffalo Sabres Colorado Avalanche (V2) New Jersey Devils
  4. I searched through threads for the past year and couldn't find anything like this, so I figured I would post it. The idea behind this thread is to post interesting facts or statistics that a lot of people don't know. It'll essentially be the answers to trivia questions. I've got two interesting ones to start this thread off. The Minnesota Vikings were the first team to kick an extra point from the 15-yard line. Tom Brady has played two games at University of Phoenix Stadium, but he has never played the Cardinals there. The Pats have played two Super Bowls there, but only played the Cardinals at home since the stadium was built.
  5. We have the Players in the "Wrong" Uniforms thread and within that thread I've seen a few "Right Team, Wrong Uniform" entries. I thought I'd separate the two, because it is an interesting topic of its' own. Here are a few to start the thread off with ... Charles Barkley, Preseason 1992, Phoenix Suns Matt Hasselbeck, 2001, Seattle Seahawks Jeff Bagwell, 1992, Houston Astros.
  6. When I was in my early teens, my parents bought me NCAA Football 98 for the computer. I really enjoyed the game, and it was very well-designed for the most part: 100+ schools; full-season play with rankings, major bowl games, and major awards; school fight songs; decent playbooks; something approximating logos on the helmets. It was a very good game for the late 1990s---not as good as the Football Pro series overall, but distinctly collegiate and lots of fun. Anyway, despite the overall quality, there were two details that I have since learned were wrong. One, LSU by default wears yellow jerseys over white pants at home in that game. Two, Missouri's colors are green and gold in the game instead of black and gold. (Come to think of it, I think the latter was also the case in that college hoops game for the Super Nintendo even earlier.) I was wondering: have you guys and gals noticed any similar errors in other games? (Incidentally, Football Pro 98 has the Eagles wearing kelly-green-and-gray even though they were in their second season with their current and inferior color scheme.)
  7. This is the latest iteration of a project that I've been working on for quite some time. I've never completely finished it, for one reason or another. Anyway, this is my vision of what the league could look like if it was Nike that had the exclusive contract with the league rather than Reebok followed by Adidas. The jersey template is based on pre-2014 Nike designs, so no flywire collars. Those look stupid. (No longer true as of the 2022 iteration of this project - the template is now based on the 2022 jerseys.) Following the real-life example of Nike and the NBA, every team will have four jerseys. However, they won't follow the same pattern as the NBA, i.e., teams can wear whichever jerseys they want whenever they want. The Nike NHL teams have one dark home jersey, one light road jersey, one dark alternate jersey and one light alternate jersey. Teams still wear dark colors at home and light colors on the road. Anyway, on with the show. NEW TEMPLATE Western Conference Pacific Division (8/8 primaries done, 8/8 alternates done, 3/? Heritage done, 1/? 8. The thread is simple -- what championship teams wore the WRONG jersey, sweater, uniform, etc. I don't want to limit this to just championship winning teams, so maybe the finalists of that league's championship round (ie-Super Bowl, World Series, NBA Finals, Stanley Cup Final, etc.). Here are a few examples to get the ball rolling ... Washington Capitals, 1998 Stanley Cup Finalist Cleveland Cavaliers, 2016 NBA Champions Edmonton Oilers, 2006 Stanley Cup Finalist
  9. First up, I want to fix the drafts of the four major sports. Currently, NFL is simply the reverse order of final record, which gives incentive for teams to tank at the end. NBA has the lottery where you really need to be in that bottom four to have a shot at the top, so tanking is practically required. Baseball is straight record, and most years is such a crap shoot it doesn't really matter. I'm not sure how NHL works, but I know the Penguins tanked twice, and IIRC, Edmonton tanked (or was legit horrible) for MacDavid. So here's my solution to this problem: Do the draft order by the order in which teams are eliminated from the playoffs. Nobody is going to tank from day 1 (except the Process-era Sixers), so they're going to legit play until they're about out of it. In the event Detroit is eliminated by week 9, it will be on merit, and they get the top pick and still have incentive to play hard the rest of the way. Toward the end of the season when teams are teetering on the brink, they're going to want to make the playoffs so there's little - if any - risk of the tanking. The first 10-15 picks will be locked in by week 12 or so, which means the end of the season should be legit competitive, and the teams with the top picks got them while playing hard. What do you think?
  10. Hi, I'm back with posting concepts! This time, I'm going to tackle ice hockey—NHL, to be exact. First of all, I would like to thank @StevenGrant94 for allowing me to use his awesome hockey uniform templates. If you would like to use them, here is the link to his templates: Steven Grant Design: Templates As for the colors, I would like to thank @TruColor for being THE reliable source for sports team colors. Anyhoo, I have provided links to the teams for easier access. Each team will have 4 uniforms: home, road, alternate, and the much-anticipated Reverse Retro. 11. So I'm technically cheating as some aren't really re-designed. But at any rate, I'd like to share with you all some of my newest concepts. I designed a new Home, Away, and Alternate... and I paired them with my older Reverse Retro jerseys to create a 4 jersey family for each team! We'll get things started with... THE METROPOLITAN DIVISION CAROLINA HURRICANES Tried to combine the current heritage jerseys with their original Adidas Home jerseys, with everyone's preferred logo (or so it seems). With the alternate, I tried to improve the "current home" (black alternate) by keeping it a bit more two-toned. Never really liked the random grey in there... Tho I did keep it in the logo. And for the Reverse Retro, went with the 2008 black alternate, but went hard on the grey this time. COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS Its time for them to just embrace the alternate as their home and get a road to go with it. It's just such a great uni. I tried to imagine a worthy road jersey for it. For the alternate, I thought along the lines of a City/State jersey and embraced the Ohio State Flag. Not too sure I love the numbers, but I also didn't know how else to make it work. For the Reverse Retro, I went back to their first year in the league and embraced Stinger, their mascot's original colors. New Jersey Devils Again I tried to combine eras for the home and away. The old school striping of the Red and Green days, mixed with the current red and black color scheme. And for the alternate I offer my basic fix for their current jersey... just a bit more red. Helps it stand out from the Blackhawks Winter Classic from 2019. Added striping to the bottom as well. For the Reverse Retro, just a black version of their Reebok days. Just a change of pace from the Jersey jersey. New York Islanders I thought about how to make the Fisherman fit in their current scheme. The answer was just a HINT of teal in the home and away. I switched their home to a a take on their Reverse Retro 1.0, and added a thin teal stripe, then tried to spin it to a road. For the Fisherman itself, I wanted a good mix between more old school, but more modern as well, with just a bit more teal. And the Reverse Retro is, really, just a return to the road sweater... Still more modern tho. New York Rangers Essentially kept their home and away the same. Iconic. No need to change, apart from making it say NEW YORK down the front on the road, just to differentiate it from the Home. The Alternate is the return of Lady Liberty, in essentially a mix of the 2 Reverse Retros from 1 & 2, with the 2 shades of blue instead of silver... And the Reverse Retro is a navy play on their road. Road striping for a home jersey. Philadelphia Flyers This design for the home and away, in essence, is already set to return I think pretty soon. I just swapped the black and white on the home to make it look a bit more Broad Street Bully-esque. The alternate is an incredibly new take. Kind of the striping from the logo, but in orange, and almost a throwback striping on the shoulders. The Reverse Retro is based off the 2002 orange alternate, making it mostly black instead, and bringing back the good ole 3D logo. Pittsburgh Penguins Taking their current logo and plopping it on their alternates. Just too clean. As for the alternates..... I designed the Reverse Retro MONTHS ago, and honestly forgot I made the grey one. I made it grey for the honor of the ROBO-Penguin... When I think Robot, I think grey/metal. Plus it was already in the jersey colors... And then I designed the alternate a few days ago... Forgetting about the Robo Penguin... I made another... OOPS. Taking their first colors and throwing it on the same template (more or less). Washington Capitals I wanted to kinda "fix" the Capitals jerseys. Instead of the weird striping down the arm, tried to turn it and make it a normal stripe. Added a darker shade of red on the other side, some stars and the Weagle... BOOM. New branding. For the Road, I started with the arms, went "Red, White, And Blue", flipped it for the torso. Alternate goes Reverse Reverse Retro. Navy version of their 1.0. And an EASY Reverse Retro, blue version of the old Winter Classic,
  12. If you think I'm posting this to distract myself from the fact I'm moving across the country in like 2 weeks, you're absolutely right. It's All-Star Break, feels like a good time to do something NHL related. Now, I don't know if it was just me, but RR 2.0 feels like it didn't quite live up to what we got with 1.0. Just my opinion, which there's going to be a lot of in this thread. Basically, I went and looked at all 32 uniforms, made a list of how I viewed them 1-32 and will go off of that. Probably gonna have to some homerish picks, some biased picks. It's my opinion and that's how it's gonna go: 32. Columbus Blue Jackets: The black felt shoehorned on the inspiration jersey. It didn't age any better on the Reverse Retro. Also something I just noticed, is the difference in blues between the sleeve blues and the logo blues. I have more thoughts but at risk of trouble on here, I will keep those to myself. If you're expecting a Cleveland Barons RR: click here. If you're expecting a Columbus Chill RR: click here or here. The new options for Columbus come from 3 of the larger cities in Ohio, each with some degree of hockey history: Option 1: The Columbus Checkers had an IHL lifespan of just 4 seasons, but made up for it with some really fun uniforms. The Blue Jackets carry that over in navy, red and white. Option 2: The Cincinnati Stingers had a slightly longer lease on life. For this take, the Blue Jackets flip the 1977 gold uniforms into their colors and gets some electric green in the recolored logo Option 3: "but I already did a Cleveland Barons Reverse Retro". I did, for the NHL team. Not the AHL team that had an impressive run of 10 Calder Cups before their dissolution. The Blue Jackets take their 50's era uniform and add some red to it. C&C welcome!
  13. Hi everyone, I have recently started a new project where I have made it a goal of mine to combine all of the sports logos from NHL, NBA, NFL and MLB (and at times MLS) from all of the major cities in the U.S. and Canada to create a singular city logo. I know this has been done countless times before but the way my designs stand out is they are more cohesive. They feel less like something was Frankenstein'd together and can almost act as a standalone logo. Consider this the definitive collection. I say this with confidence because they were all composed in Adobe Illustrator with linework redone to make the designs more seamless, images rendered in crisp high resolution quality, each one taking several hours of work and trial and error and the cherry on top of the cake is that I own my own print shop so I can make stickers and shirts out of these designs. It's a true passion project for me. My journey began when I was first getting serious about graphic design, the summer right before I enrolled at DePaul in 2013. I created a mashup of all the Chicago logos because I wanted my own version of it. All the variations I had seen online did not do the city justice and I wanted something genuinely more badass that wouldn't look cheesy. I dubbed it "The Chicago Beast". It was cool for a few years and then I sort of forgot about it - well in 2019 I decided to take another crack at it and make a wildly popular rendition of this logo mashup combination - you may have seen it online (I made a North Side - Cubs and a South Side - White Sox version. Both featured elements of the Blackhawks, Bears and Bulls. I have made slightly different variations - some including the 6 star Chicago flag and others with different color arrangements. Fast forward to 2021 - A whole year of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown had me yearning for another creative project that I can do for fun. I decided - why not give every city this same treatment? And so I did - "Major League Remix" (#MajorLeagueRemix). I will be posting the designs in this thread and would love some feedback! While I do consider these designs to be 'complete', as a true designer, I know there is always room for improvement, especially since teams change logos frequently. A few things to note (ground rules) for my concepts: They don't necessarily have to use the entire design of the logo in the mashup. They can be as little or as much as possible - the only rule is they have to look cohesive and make sense - no Frankenstein work! I often use past versions of team logos although I try to use the current ones as much as I can. This is because my goal is to make the logo look good, and if I use the core logo, it may not look the best. I have struggled a lot to piece some of these together because of the lack of uniqueness, clean design or symmetry so I have had to resort to alternates. Colors are fair game - as long as they are pulled directly from within the color palette of the city's sports logos. They all have a white border with rounded corners for consistency and also to set them up for sticker printing. That is all! I am so glad to be a part of this awesome forum - I can't think of a more perfect place to post this kind of work on the internet. If you want to follow me on social media - I am @DeluxeGraphicSupply on Instagram and Facebook. My website is also DeluxeGraphicSupply.com Chicago Bulls x Bears x Blackhawks x White Sox
  14. I've never posted a hockey concept before. I just recently got a template together, so I thought I'd try it out. I had a lot of fun making it. Thoughts? http://i419.photobucket.com/albums/pp274/wingdog2000/litning_zpsbz6brzom.png
  15. Good evening. I decided to take a stab at next year's edition of the Winter Classic. Details... Even more details... The Metropolitans are back! Obvious design choice, can't wait until we see them make their inevitable return. Vegas was a bit tough. I opted to avoid Las Vegas Thunder because they already used them for their first reverse retro. I decided to freestyle a bit. I Imagine the Knights would've looked something like this if they were active in the 1920s. Let me know what you think! Any and all feedback is appreciated!
  16. The Capitals' brand has been stale for a while now, and there's been lots of discussion regarding their colors and logos. Ideally, the Capitals would change to a color scheme that resembles their 90s-00s color scheme. That's why I restored their uniquely-DC color scheme, with the only difference being a change from gold to copper. While maintaining a similar color scheme to the past, my ideal Capitals would have less emphasis on black, and save it solely for accents. The DC is intended to create a Washington-specific logo that doesn't have any W imagery. The stars and stripes from DC's flag can also be found within the letter D. These particular concepts are intended to display how this logo would be applied on a blue background or jersey. Since this particular logo is intended to be used in small applications (such as a shoulder patch), I would appreciate feedback on the color balance that looks best and maintains contrast. I'm still working on the color balance for other versions of the logo, which should be posted some time later. All other suggestions are appreciated as well.
  17. Here's my take for the upcoming Stadium Series game between the Capitals and Hurricanes. The Caps have somehow never used their best logo of the Reebok/Adidas Era as a primary, and it's time that changes. The Canes get a new version of their logo, and while it looks more simple, there are a couple extra details. The left swirl doubles as a "C" and the eye triples as an "H", and, although a little harder to make out, a faceoff dot. The C and H are accented in storm gray. While this jersey doesn't defer too much from their leaked version in 2021, I made a couple changes, both inspired by their hosts for the game. The striping layout (a little higher on the sleeve than usual) design and wordmark under the collar are inspired by NC State's football uniforms. The italicized typeface is a nod to both the Wolfpack wordmark and Carolina's inaugural uniform. The weathered gray texture fills in the otherwise simple body of the uniform. As NC State is to Carolina, so are the Commanders to the Capitals. The sleeve striping is derivative of the commanders new road uniforms, and the helmet logo/number layout is similar to the alternate black helmet. The three stars symbolic with DC appear under the collar and, per tradition, on the bottom sleeves. The side piping and beveled number font represent DC's architecture, especially the Washington Monument.
  18. Columbus Blue Jackets Stripes inspired by Ohio Flag St. Louis Blues Based on their 2017 winter classic jersey Washington Capitals Features 13 stripes on the front of the jersey
  19. Older Anniversary Sets: Kings - Blues - Penguins - North Stars/Seals/Barons - Sabres - Canucks - Islanders I begin the Flames Anniversary Series with an Atlanta sweater...but in black. Oh, wow, how original, I know /s. Fair warning, the Coyotes wont be Canucks ubiquitous in the WHA series, it'll just feel a bit like it...anyway, since I'd used the Roadrunners' 1st WHA design in one of the older series, tonight the Yotes get the Blues ripoffs from years 2 and 3. And since the Flames' only acknowledgment was an Atlanta crest warmup jersey they wore last season, I threw something together to at least have a patch, which I placed on the left shoulder; the Coyotes are also serving as a quasi-preview of the WHA extravaganza, so they get a WHA 50th patch (found it on Facebook) and the old Roadrunner on the right shoulder and the pants. Next up...80s Night, probably vs. the Canucks (it's not a Western Conference anniversary series without em). Be crazy for me, make me shine on you
  20. Hello, it's my first time in a good while doing a logo series, but I thought I had some stuff worth sharing. This little series is based on the premise of the owners of the Milwaukee Bucks deciding to expand on their sports holdings and launch expansion teams in various other leagues. I have dubbed this hypothetical enterprise the Deer Sports Empire. Currently, aside from the Bucks they own the Wisconsin Herd. I will be leaving the logos for those teams as is, partially because I really like them and partially because the idea is the owners are launching new teams with similar branding touches (colors, font, etc). I also will not be touching MLB or giving them an NFL team as there's no world where those things would happen. These are the teams and leagues I plan to do so far. A couple are already done or close to finished. As suggestions (hopefully) are made and new ideas come to me I may add to this list. If anyone has a team in a league they would like to see, feel free to make suggestions. I dont have uniform templates for all the different sports so I'm just focusing on uniforms right now. 21. So...question. As someone who is rather ignorant to sports not named basketball or football, I'd like to know what you guys consider basic knowledge for a hockey uniform fan. I'm hoping you guys can give me a crash course in hockey aesthetics (hence the thread name). Here are a few questions: What do tradional jerseys look like? What do modern jerseys look like? What is the Edge template, and why do we hate it? Who has the best uniforms in the league? Who has the worst? What is the best looking ice (court?) design? Do any of the design principals of bball and football apply to hockey? why or why not?

  23. In late November of 2021, The New Jersey Devils released their first ever third jersey in the franchise’s history. Although I like the design the team developed, I started playing around with ideas that I thought would look cool on a pro-sports team that featured the name the Devils. I started out by sketching simplified devil & goat heads and soon started to see the resemblance of a vintage goalie mask. Next, shapes of hockey sticks, a puck and a pitchfork were built into the design to help give the logo depth. Once the base of the concept was figured out, I brought it to my iPad and started working on the fine detail and colours. Originally the eyes were just circles but once finalized I cut two slants into them to add some attitude. The main inspiration for the logo came from the simple shapes that make up vintage goalie masks and abstract imagery that represent hockey and the history of the Devils. Tarot cards, famous pop-culture logos and Boba Fett’s armor all helped bring the supernatural vibes within the logo to life. The colours swamp green, jersey red and black are used to give the team a familiar but new bold look. A subtle gradient brings the colour swap green to life and the renderings of abstract fire warns opponents danger is near. The secondary mark plays homage to the original Colorado Rockies’ logo that was in a shape of a triangle. Team branding features a gothic inspired font that gives the word-mark authority. Ler me know what everyone thinks! More info here.
  24. Hello all! I am back again for yet another NHL redesign. I've done one in the past, but my skills have improved since then, I have had uniforms I've designed been worn on the ice, and I have found even better templates to use. This prompted my idea to design what I think every team should look like. Nothing crazy. Every team changes in some form, some more than others. There's only 9 teams I left the primary logo pretty much the same, while the rest of the teams have redesigned/reimagined logos. To pair with the home and away concepts, I added an alternate and a city jersey. I plan on sticking to a couple rules. I'll stick to my rules for the most part, there may be a couple exceptions. Home & Road: Must have at least one difference from their current look (besides a couple of the original 6 teams) Can dip back in time to past uniforms (I think some teams had really good looks in the past but ditched the more modern look for a classic look. It's time to look more modern in some cases) Alternates: They must be a different colour than the home or away. They cannot be just a throwback/retro jersey The throwback rule may be broken a couple times, but I'm really trying to make the alternates look different from their home and road jerseys. City: Should not use the colour scheme of the team (unless the colours are tied to the city and integral in the design) Will borrow the logo, but the logo will adapt to the new colours (similar to the Wild's reverse retro) The city jerseys are an idea borrowed from the NBA. I wanted to design something that ties back to the city, that is radically different from the main uniform set. I think the NHL needs some fun in jersey design, but not as much as the NBA, but to allow some of these cool designs that are often worn in warmups, to be worn during the game. The City uniform is one way I think it could happen. It really may just end up being a city flag jersey haha, but that can be cool in it's own way as well. Because of the way I set things up, there won't be a pants or gloves design for the city jersey, but I don't think that's needed anyway. Templates for every team were created by the brilliantly talented Orion Taylor Alright, with all that ground work said and done, let's move on to the first team. Anaheim Ducks The home and away are pretty simple. Based on the classic look, but with their current colours. I love the orange, I may be in the minority there haha. I think the current colour scheme is better than the eggplant set. Hard to argue with me because it's my ideal set haha. The striping on the one arm may not be right because my brain could not figure out what direction it should go, so if anyone has that answer, I'd love to know. Don't worry though, the eggplant makes an appearance in the alternate. Using a design from another past uniform, but changing up the colours. So it's technically not a straight throwback. Rule not broken. Now the City jersey is where things get real different. You can see the flag for the City of Anaheim in the top corner there, that's what this designed is based on. Even though it looks like the perfect All Star uniform, it is indeed just the Ducks city jersey. You may also notice the Ducks logo recoloured to fit the theme. I have all the logos prepared, but not the uniforms, so I'll be posting them as I finish them. Any C&C is appreciated, even if this is all about what I think the NHL should look like, I still appreciate comments! Especially if someone can tell me how to angle stripes on the back right sleeve haha.
  25. Hello everyone, and Happy New Year! So there are lots of cool Seattle NHL concepts right now (yay!), but I thought I'd try my hand at our soon-to-be archrivals, the Vancouver Canucks! 2022 updates/additions ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯ As I'm sure you're all aware, Vancouver hockey has had a bazillion different identities. Here's an overview of Vancouver's hockey history for those who are unfamiliar: In this series, I'll try to combine or introduce different styles to some logos through their history. The uniform template I will use is this Adidas template by Matthew McElroy. Please enjoy, and let me know if you have any combo recommendations!
