  1. Because there won't be alternate jerseys next year, I was thinking of ideas for alternate ideas for jerseys, and this popped into my head. This Red Wings concept takes their sash from their stadium series jersey, and adds a stripe below, like their winter classic jerseys. The striping pattern also throws back to when the Red Wings were the Cougars. the sleeve numbers are placed in the stripes to make the jersey unique. C&C is appreciated!
  2. As much as I love the new Bolts logo and uniforms, when they're placed next to the Maple Leafs it REALLY drives home how similar the two are. While some clamored for the old set I honestly didn't like the striping and I prefer Tampa Bay as a blue base team as opposed to a black base. Nevertheless, black and silver need to comeback to distinguish the Bolts from the Leafs and so here we are One of my biggest pain points with the old set is that too much black weighed down the uniform. This is alleviated by keeping the black to a minimum secondary and brightening the blue. (It's for this reason there are sleeves on the road whites but not on the home blues. The primary logo stays almost the exact same as far as proportion but you can see the how the brighter blue pops allowing the use of black without added weight. The existing wordmarks would carry over just with the new blue used. So Tampa Bay...ready to stop looking like you're in Ontario?
  3. So a few years ago when the Sharks were hosting a Stadium Series game against the Kings, I came up with a concept of what they might wear. Many people said it should be used as the full-time set. However, others said that the colors meshed too much and it bogged down the design. So, with Adidas set to unveil the uniforms tomorrow, I thought I'd throw my design in what I would hope the Sharks would do. Granted, I'm not expecting much. I'd be pleasantly surprised if there was something even close to this. Shoulder patches were left blank as I didn't know which one they were going to go with. I just saw that reveal in the teaser trailer this afternoon. So the orange could be removed, but I might actually be getting used to the orange...oh my, what is happening!
  4. To welcome hockey to Vegas, MGM Resorts has been tweeting logos for a concept all-Vegas league. The Sharks, Royals, and Mavericks aren't bad. http://bit.ly/ViewAllTeams
  5. Here is a jersey mock-up I did awhile back and two different iterations of it I've done recently.
  6. It's been ages since I've really had the time to focus on some NHL stuff. There are a number of concepts just lying around in one of my folders that I've never really put any finishing touches on (i.e. sleeve numbers, adding helmets, pants, socks, etc), so I thought it was time I finish them and put on a little more polish. I prefer to use the old CCM paint templates because I find them easier to use, what being incredibly horizontal. They are a bit bulky, but unlike the Edge templates, I find there's more space utilize. I have Reebok'd them, though, they will have the Reebok tags and Edge collars, but I streamlined them, so they will all have the same basic collar template, which I'll concede is lame on my end. Right now I only have four teams ready but I am hoping to polish off about ten or eleven over the next few days. They're not in any discernible order either, sorry. 7. After a few teasers and a look at Vegas' draft hat, I've decided to put together a last minute prediction for the Golden Knight's jerseys. C&C is welcome.
  8. ...now, here's a new logo that isn't complete naff.
  9. Trying to play with something I always thought would work for the Bolts. I like the secondary they have now, but I just thought this could be a tertiary, or if they ever make the secondary the primary. I tried to do my own bevel...but I kinda got stuck. So I'm providing two examples, one with the unfinished bevel and one without. Its still a work in progress. Let me know what you think, any advice, changes that need to be made. Thanks.
  10. Hello all, This is my first concept on the boards. I made this one quite a while ago, but have not decided to post it until now. I'm not very tech savvy and so just used Google Drawings to make this and so it doesn't all line up quite the way I'd like. As the name 'Nordiques' means 'northerners', I decided to play off that and make it the shape of a compass. The fleur-de-lis represents the province of Quebec and also helps form the tip of the compass. The red border of the compass forms the shape of the letter 'Q' for Quebec. The 'N' and the 'Q' in the logo are quite helpful for making a wordmark, especially since in french the team is 'Les Nordiques de Qu├ębec' (the 'N' before the 'Q')
  11. Mr. Foley, (the billionaire that's picking up most of the tab for the Las Vegas NHL project), has repeatedly stated that he prefers the name "Black Knights" for the Vegas hockey team. He's the man, so I've attempted a concept using Mr.Foley's choice of name and colours.
  12. This is a series I've started on another app. It's my ideal uniforms for each team created on NHL17. This is my first ever topic, so be generous with the C&C please, but feedback/criticism is welcomed. Enjoy!
  13. Last year I did a full re-design for the NHL. At the time, the Vegas logo wasn't out yet. Now that it is and it's getting close to the jersey reveal, here's my take on the Vegas Golden Knights. I have a few different designs that I put together, however, this one was the one I liked the best. I wanted to give the feel that there are different sections to the jersey much like the armor of a knight (shoulder yoke, sleeve/waist striping). I dabbled without a yoke for a bit, but opted for it simply for that reason. The secondary mark is used as a patch on the shoulders. Striping is consistent across the waist and sleeves. If you've seen my NHL series, you'll know that I love sublimation so I had to throw my spin in on this one. I used the "Welcome to Vegas" stars across the gold striping on the waist. I didn't carry it to the sleeves because it felt too busy. There are 4 jerseys in this set. Home/away/2 alts. Alternates are a black and a red version. I opted to not make a gold because I'm not a huge fan of it as a primary (ie Jaguars color rush). Anyway, let me know what you think. I'll likely post my other versions I created as well. 14. Decided to create some winter classic logos for the Rangers, Sabres, and the game itself. Rangers: A mix of their 1920s-30s logo with the modern logo, along with the throwback white color. Sabres: Using the current buffalo and two sabre concept, but adjusting it with some throwback white. Event Logo: Using reference from the inaugural logo for Citi Field from 2009, this logo uses citi field's facade, along with the commonly used winter classic logo. Lemme know what you think:
  15. So I've had this idea in my head where teams are required to drop a color and replace it with another. Most redesigns circle around bringing back old colors or cycling the palettes to make them more appealing, so I decided to try something a little more out of the ordinary. This is my first time doing anything like this, so criticism is appreciated! First up is the Lightning. I hate how they have black for basically no reason, so I had them drop it and exchange it with a bright, electric blue. The crest also gains a shadow, and the alternate goes from a classic roundel to an outline of Florida outlined like the crest. What do you guys think? Anything I should work on?
  16. Haven't done this in a while. So I'm going to be attempting a NHL Concepts series. I really don't have any plans for most of the league, but I have enough to start this thread up. Basically I'll post when I finish a concept, and I'll start working on a concept when I have an idea for one. Exciting! First off. The Tampa Bay Lightning. Inspired by my discussions with @Rollins Man and @Morgo in the NHL 2017-2018 thread. Basically I wanted something evocative of the original look while fixing the problems with it. I went back to the Honolulu blue the team used at the start of their tenure, as it contrasted better with the black than the royal blue they switched to (and still use). The dated logo has been replaced by a slightly modified and recoloured version of the current alternate mark. I used a TB monogram based off of the team's wordmark for the alternate logo. I decided to homage the current set with the alternate. Blue is now the primary colour, white the secondary, black the tertiary, and silver has been removed completely. C&C welcome, as always.
  17. Haven't had too much time to work on much of anything recently, but with HJC's latest competition starting up, I figured it would be a good time to get back in the design game. The rules for this competition allow for you to submit 3 concepts for teams at the '17 IIHF World Championship (USA, Canada, and your choice). If I can, I'd love to turn this into a series, but for now I am just going to post my work for those first three teams. I'll start off by posting Team USA...C&C appreciated!
  18. Ah yes, the Hartford Whalers. Today, everybody loves the Whale. Everybody wants to see the Whale return. Of all the NHL teams that no longer exist, perhaps none are more popular and remembered more fondly than the Hartford Whalers. I personally loved the Whalers because of their unique logo, that wonderful marriage between a "W" and a whale tail to come together and form a hidden "H" in the middle. During their 18 years in Hartford, the team qualified for the NHL playoffs just eight times, with seven of those appearances coming as the fourth-place team in their division, originally the Norris and later the Adams. In five of their playoff seasons they finished with a losing record, including a 26-41-13 performance during the 1991-92 season, and only once did they advance beyond the first round. My question is, could the Hartford Whalers return? , If so, what would their logo and uniform concepts look like?
  19. About a week or so ago, I saw a snapchat on the Penguins' story of a fan with a neat poster design. The style of the logo inspired me to make one in a similar style for the rest of the league. My basic rules for myself was that the logo had to be one continuous line that starts and stops in different areas, or that it doesn't become a closed shape rather than just a line. In a few cases I had to use a team's alternate logo if the primary didn't work well, and in two cases I had to use teams' past logos. The one team I'm still not completely happy about is Boston, I think they look a bit off, so if anyone has any ideas it's appreciated! I also have a playoff bracket using these logos that's been updated to the conference final after yesterday's game sevens. C&C appreciated!
  20. I came across an idea for a secondary logo for the Stars, and decided to run with it. The presentation is below. I've got a version made up for the HJC Random Competition. The challenge was to create the Stars in red and blue, and you can find a link to that HERE.
  21. Hey, Guys! Getting back into the swing of things now that the semester is over. This concept centers around the musical identity of the blues with the striping drawing inspiration from the 5 lines and 4 spaces of the treble clef and a slightly-recolored horn secondary logo making a return. As title suggests, I am starting to tire of the limitations of paint.net, specifically surrounding logo creation and pixelation of images and angled striping. As such, in addition to C&C if you guys have any suggestions as to which software you prefer for design purposes, both for those issues and others, I would much appreciate it. As always C&C is much appreciated, Thanks Guys, JB Designs
  22. I've always loved the Penguins' old wordmark, or at least the idea of it, but let's be honest: it looks quite dated at this point. So that led me to attempt to modernize the logo. It also draws some aspects from the current wordmark with the highlights. After this, I decided there was no better time to attempt to redesign the Penguins' current skating penguin logo, addressing and fixing its flaws, which is something I've wanted to do for some time now. The main thing I addressed was the mess of shapes that are the gloves, going for a more simple look, without losing the imagery of a glove. The other main change was keeping the stroke widths as consistent as possible throughout the logo, and I believe the only place it deviates is having a thicker outline on the triangle. I'm personally really happy with the turnout of the wordmark, but I'm a bit more iffy on the logo, so any C&C would be appreciated, especially with the logo.
  23. This is my concept of a Vegas Golden Knights farm team in Reno, Nevada. View the full project here
  24. There won't be any third jerseys in the NHL for the next season, but that hasn't stopped me from designing some anyways. I am happy to announce the start of my 2nd series on this site, "NHL Third Jerseys". I know, creative title, I hope that my concepts are a bit more creative. C&C is always appreciated! Below are direct links to individual concepts and will be updated as I post each new concept I post. Pacific Division Anaheim Ducks Arizona Coyotes Calgary Flames Edmonton Oilers Los Angeles Kings San Jose Sharks Vancouver Canucks Central Division Chicago Blackhawks Colorado Avalanche Dallas Stars Minnesota Wild Nashville Predators St Louis Blues Winnipeg Jets
  25. LONG WRITE-UP BELOW: IF YOU WANNA JUST SEE THE UNIS, SCROLL DOWN. I'm gonna let you in on two secrets about myself. #1: I'm obsessed with hockey. #2: I'm obsessed with video games. (I know, so unique, right?) I can still remember the first game I bought for myself. I just got an Xbox on Christmas Day 2002: I was 8. The next day, during the cataclysm of Boxing Day shopping, I smashed my piggy bank and bought the first hockey game I could find. It was a little thing called NHL Hitz 20-03. Chris Pronger was on the front cover, surrounded in flames. I bought it thinking I had just bought a normal hockey game. I was very wrong. In NHL Hitz, the action is 3-on-3. It's fast paced, violent, and incredibly unrealistic: think NBA Jam or NFL Blitz on ice. Games are played for 3 3-minute periods, and there are only two penalties: fighting and goalie interference. If you lose a fight, you're ejected. If you win, you and an opposing player serve concurrent 30-second penalties, and the rest of the players play 2-on-2 for the time. Someone would always score. 2-on-2 tends to work like that. Anyway, the franchise mode for that game enamored me. In it, you pick a small team of players and play against a series of 40 increasingly-difficult opponents for the right to play in the NHL. The mode would work like this: you'd play 4 teams, and if you beat them, you'd play a "boss team". You beat them, you advance to the next round. In later rounds, you'd play against actual NHL teams, but in earlier rounds - and in every boss game - you'd play against some weird and wacky imaginary team in an odd location: there were teams on four continents, in sun and snow, in big bustling cities like Tokyo, Hong Kong, London, and New York, and others in places like Victoria, Sarnia, and Montego Bay. Not long ago, I found my copy of the game again, and the obsession continued. But now, I can't help but think the teams, logos, and information is all dated. So I re-did everything. This is a 16-part series, where all the "made-up" teams are made up, dressed down, and made over. New unis and logos are used for all teams; there's even a name change for one team. I used a random name generator to produce new names for players; a random number generator was used to create statistical attributes. Phony histories were made; full 23-man rosters were made out of thin air. A new season will be run to determine who's on top in the newly-established Global Hitz League. A warning before the first team is unveiled: I've gone into quite some detail about these new players, and the unis will not be what can be considered "conventional". These aren't real teams: these will never hit the ice. So, let's break some rules, and have some fun. Without any further babble, here's team one: the #16 ranked Hong Kong Silicon. Home/away/third: For reference, here are the original uniforms from the game. And here is the roster and attributes of the 2016 Hong Kong Silicon. C&C is welcome about...well, everything. If you've got a question about the game, the project itself, or anything else, don't hesitate to ask.
