  1. When I was in my early teens, my parents bought me NCAA Football 98 for the computer. I really enjoyed the game, and it was very well-designed for the most part: 100+ schools; full-season play with rankings, major bowl games, and major awards; school fight songs; decent playbooks; something approximating logos on the helmets. It was a very good game for the late 1990s---not as good as the Football Pro series overall, but distinctly collegiate and lots of fun. Anyway, despite the overall quality, there were two details that I have since learned were wrong. One, LSU by default wears yellow jerseys over white pants at home in that game. Two, Missouri's colors are green and gold in the game instead of black and gold. (Come to think of it, I think the latter was also the case in that college hoops game for the Super Nintendo even earlier.) I was wondering: have you guys and gals noticed any similar errors in other games? (Incidentally, Football Pro 98 has the Eagles wearing kelly-green-and-gray even though they were in their second season with their current and inferior color scheme.)
  2. Post your favorite new masks for the 2019-20 season... Quick's new mask is probably my choice: Jack Campbell's new mask is also fantastic...the Kings have a history of great goalie masks over the last 40 years... Cal Petersen's mask is also quite nice, if mostly understated. The throwback crown in black and silver looks good:
  3. The Associated Press is reporting that the NHL Board of Governors has unanimously approved granting an expansion franchise to Seattle, Washington. The team - the NHL's 32nd - will begin play with commencement of the league's 2021-2022 season. NHL adds Seattle as league's 32nd team, play begins in 2021
  4. Hi all, I decided to create a series based off the one I did for the NBA, in which I make alternate jerseys for the NHL that combine most (if not all) the team's brand history into one uniform. I thought this would be a cool way of acknowledging team histories while making unique alternate uniforms for each team (excluding Vegas, since they've only had one logo and uniform set, sorry Golden Knights fans...) I hope y'all enjoy and CC is welcome! Starting off with three: Mighty Ducks of Anaheim/Anaheim Ducks 1990s-Mid 2000s: Front logo Mid 2000s-early 2010s: Sleeve styling Early 2010s-present: Shoulder logos, colors Phoenix/Arizona Coyotes: 1990s-early 2000s: General jersey design early 2000s-early 2010s: Shoulder logo Early 2010s-present: Front logo, colors Boston Bruins: 1950s: Color, sleeve design 1960s-80s: Front logo coloring, shoulder design, neck coloring 2000s-present: Front logo design, shoulder logo Going in alphabetical order by city, so that'll be the order.
  5. I'm chcarlson23, and I'm looking to start an NHL series here on the boards. I've been designing lots of stuff for a while now, and have even started a few series here on the boards, but never completed any of them. We'll see if I'm able to this time, as I'm pretty busy with school. Anyways, hope you enjoy! I recently saw an older design of mine for the Anaheim Ducks, and decided to update it a little, then add a road sweater. The only thing is that I can't decide if the road needs a black yoke or not. I've included both here. Let me know what you think about that C&C Appreciated!
  6. What if certain teams/franchises in the NHL never rebranded or moved cities? Many other people have done their own renditions, so I figured I'd throw my hat in the ring too. Starting off, what if the LA Kings never adopted the colors of their then neighbors the LA Raiders? In 1988, at the introductory press conference for Wayne Gretzky no less, the Kings unveiled their brand new logo, jersey, and colors. If they hadn't changed the latter, what would the Great One's jersey have looked like? Rather than just recolor the logo from that era, I took the logo used in promotional materials throughout the '80s and cleaned it up. The speed lines are gone for an overall cleaner look to the KINGS text. The striping pattern on the jersey mimics the outlines of the logo and fits with the aesthetics of the time . Version 1 - Single outlined numbers Version 2 - Double outlined numbers C&C is always appreciated. Tomorrow, the Kings introduce their first alternate jersey!
  7. Heya, everyone! It is I, FC Macbeth, here with the first concept series done by yours truly! Today, with the first post of the series, let me tell you a story. Alright, end of story. Let's start off this series, shall we? BOSTON BRUINS Let's go retro for this Stanley Cup finalist by going ALL GOLD! In fact, let's pay a tribute to the famous Kraut line that gave them two Stanley cups in 1939 and 1941. My basis of this concept is to create an all-gold look while referencing with the past. In this case, it's the 1939 Jersey in a gold variant. All I did is simply double the stripping.for the original and apply it to the socks. The gold breaches also has a stripe on it, which is something Boston has ACTUALLY DONE from 1958 to 1965. I created two versions of the same design. The one of the left is what the original source material looks like: Numbers on the front and the 'Blocked B' logo placed at where the T.V. numbers are normally placed, creating an illusion that resembled a football jersey. Personally, it's unusual compared to the other ones Boston has design and while it didn't look good in terms of its placement, I think it doesn't hurt to try. The one of the right, however, is just your standard typical placement of the logo and the numbers. Not much to say, really. What do you think, guys? Comments and criticisms are welcome. Just try to be civil, okay?
  8. With the Hurricanes unveiling their new away jersey and now having 3 different distinct looking jerseys I've decided to keep their basic looks but having them keep unified parts. All 3 jerseys keep the tonal storm flag stripes and I add them to the sleeves now. Home Away The home and away keep the primary logo on the front. I normally hate nicknames on hockey jerseys but Canes for some reason kind grows on me. However save that for the alternate the home and away for the primary logo. The stripe widths are now constant and I added the storm flags to the home jersey. Third I move "Canes" to the third jersey because I don't like how the storm flags look on the front of the jersey. I also add the sleeve to the hem to keep consistency and removed the storm grey because it just looked wherever I put it.
  9. Around a week ago, the jersey that the Buffalo Sabres will be wearing next year for their 50th season was leaked. I don't think it's great, but it isn't terrible IMO. I tried to fix its issues in this concept. First, I gave it a blue yoke like Buffalo has worn for a long time, and edited to striping so there is no yellow-on-white, and made blue the majority colour. The logo and numbers stay the same. What do you think? C&C is appreciated!
  10. Hi! I've been a longtime reader of CCSLC and I've decided to start posting some of my concepts. I decided to redesign the nhl uniforms for the 2021-2022 season. In this concept I decided to take a page from the NBA and give all 32 teams a third and fourth jersey. Going on with the NBA and soccer, there are no home or away uniforms. They just need to clash (I know this would be tough for equipment managers so my idea is that the away team picks the color so they can just travel with one set) I originally redesigned a few teams logos but in the end I decided I still wanted to keep all the teams with the same general brand they already have or have had. Here's the Atlantic Division: Boston I changed the dark and light to be closer to the Bobby Orr days of the 1960s-70s. The third is a modern take of the B's 1965-67 home uniform. Their 4th jersey pays homage to the first bruins' uniform. Buffalo The dark uniforms are inspired by their heritage third jersey they used to have and the light is their winter classic jersey just with laces. The 4th jersey is in spired by the Buffalo flag. Detroit I keep the dark and light the exact same, the third is a red version of their centennial classic uniforms with the 2014 Winter Classic logo. 4th jersey is inspired by the 1930's away jersey and added the Hockeytown logo. Florida I keep the dark and light the same except for having the same crest on both jerseys, the third is a recolored version of their original navy third jersey. I'll admit this is ripping off the Heat but these are Miami Vice inspired. Montreal The Habs' home jersey is probably my favorite uniform in sports but I've always thought their away jersey was missing something so I added stripes to the sleeves. The third jersey is an inverse of the dark jersey. The 4th jersey is blue to honor the Quebec flag but also honor the Canadiens' history. Ottawa The dark, light and third jerseys are all inspired by the Centennial Classic jerseys which has historical significance to Ottawa. The 4th jersey is the Senators original jerseys. Tampa Bay I added some black to the dark and light. The third jersey is an update to their cup winning uniforms. The 4th jersey are a heathered grey pattern to make a rain storm type pattern. Toronto I make the hem stripe a double stripe to add consistency. The third jersey is inspired by the Arenas throwback and the 4th jersey is inspired by Drake. Thanks so much for viewing and any CC would be appreciated! I'll be posting the Metro soon.
  11. Should NHL teams hang a banner if they won their Division in Postseason Play? (Real life example question: Should the 2018-2019 Carolina Hurricanes put a banner for Metro Division Postseason Champions since they represented the Metro in the Eastern Conference Finals)
  12. Well, I made some random hockey concepts today, based on urban graffiti. With the help of some png images and amateur photoshop done on a mobile, I have made these. Use them as wallpapers, or print them out and pin them on your wall, I honestly don’t care. Let’s start with this year’s contenders for Lord Stanley: So, what do you think?
  13. I know that there are a lot of NHL Seattle concepts right now, but I decided to try my hand before my hometown team releases its logo and colors. Here are my takes on six team names that I think are ideal (paired with some poor photos I've taken around town.) First off, the Seattle Totems! The whole thing is a geometric version of the local Salish art style. The secondary logos are a monogram and a Metros S. The alternate uniform combines the major aspects of the '63 WHL white jersey and the '66 green. The font is a modified version of Frostbite Narrow.
  14. Hi,I decided to draw a few NHL concepts and four uniforms for every NHL team(Home,Road,Alternate and a "City" edition) but some teams had only three uniforms. No changes on the home and away.Their uniforms are classic however,I added new alternate logos on the shoulders. One is a winged Liberty Bell and another one is a winged "F" similar to the classic winged "P". On the alternate, there are few changes. I made the numbers on the sleeves smaller and changed the font from black to orange. The "City" edition features a grey jersey with black shoulders and black and orange striping and the winged Liberty Bell on the crest that represents the city of Philadelphia, well a keystone logo on the black shoulder representing the state's national symbol. I sorry but I can't upload the concepts so I trying to insert them in my phone... I'm new here.
  15. I've been working on some ideas lately surrounding the name and logo for the future NHL team in Seattle and I wanted to share them here. I have shared these with the @SeattleSinBin Twitter account and he has posted them to get feedback from Seattle hockey fans. The response has been mixed, with many people seeming to like the logos, but not responding favorably to the color schemes for either concept (too similar to the Portland Timbers and OKC Thunder for many people's liking). I've always felt that the Seattle navy & neon green color scheme would be great for continuity's sake with the Seahawks and Sounders, but not so great for the sake of originality or differentiating ourselves from the blue & green color palette already being used by the Vancouver Canucks. Here are the concepts: Seattle Pilots Seattle Breakers I have a couple other ideas for logos that I plan on exploring for Steelheads and Kraken, and I'll see if I can come up with some other options that are a little more unique to the standard list of names being mentioned for the future NHL team.
  16. I'm not exactly sure what to call this as it's a bit different from the Unused Logos/Jersey thread. This is forgotten history about team name changes, logo rumors and relocation that never -- that kind of stuff. I bring this up for a couple of reasons and I'll illustrate my point to hopefully set the tone of the thread. I was researching the late '80s NBA expansion of Miami, Orlando, Minnesota and Charlotte and found a few interesting nuggets in this article. I knew about the Charlotte Spirit nickname as it wasn't well received, the I found the Florida Heat nickname bit interesting and pretty much forgotten without having to dig pretty far back into news archives to find the reference. Additionally there was The Athletic article yesterday about the Dallas Mavericks aborted rebranding in the late 90s before Mark Cuban bought the team and branded them with their current look. I also found a few mentions in other articles of the possibilities of the Spurs moving to Miami to accommodate both Expansion bids in Florida, since the NBA was originally set to expand only by three instead of four teams. Anyways, I'd love to discover more lost history in other sport leagues since basketball is what I know best. What do you have?
  17. It's been a few days since I finished the Sabres series, so now I begin the Canucks counterpart...tonight, I mash the style they wore for their first two seasons with the flying skate. The Peyote Coyote skates forth to oppose them, this uniform based on the 1974-75 Phoenix Roadrunners, though repeating the coyote on the shoulders the way the Runners had had their logo ended up looking like crap, so I used the moon instead. Tomorrow is 80s Night, this time out I'll make you squirm a bit, see if you can guess which logo'll be used and who the opponents will be. I'll tell you what though, much like I ended the Sabres series with a heritage set, the Canucks series will end with an interesting take on the Millionaires.
  18. Back in the autumn of 2016, the remaining Expansion Six all celebrated their 50th anniversaries, and to mark the occasion, I basically did a series split into four parts: the Kings leg, the Blues leg, the Penguins leg and the great North Stars-Seals trainwreck Tonight...we ride again. The Sabres and Canucks turn the big Five-O, and so I am summoned from the scrap heap to commemorate things. As a number of weird things did, we begin in the 70s. The Sabres use their original striping style, but with a slight tweak as I took cues from the white jersey with the differing colorations, and also put the AHL Bisons-inspired Buffalo wordmark to use. The visiting Rangers are in the infamously short-lived 76-78 uniforms, but with the shield from one of their Winter Classic jerseys on the front. The plan is as follows: 80s: vs Bruins (? I'm thinking of going in a different direction, but they're who I have penciled in). The Sabres' crest here will either be the goathead, this past Winter Classic's shoulder logo (in which case this'll be predominantly yellow) or the pre-Edge red jersey's crest. 90s: vs Lightning...I might go with the Buffaslug here. Not sure whether I'll go with their original design or the rain storm jersey for TB. 2K: vs Blue Jackets...honestly...ugh...expectations suck sometimes. Take a wild guess what's coming. 2010s: vs Canadiens...rolling with the Buffalo script template here. I think. Pre-Sabres Heritage: vs Capitals or Penguins Before you ask, there will be a Canucks series too. And yes, there will be flying V.
  19. Hello everyone, and Happy New Year! So there are lots of cool Seattle NHL concepts right now (yay!), but I thought I'd try my hand at our soon-to-be archrivals, the Vancouver Canucks! As I'm sure you're all aware, Vancouver hockey has had a bazillion different identities. Here's an overview of Vancouver's hockey history for those who are unfamiliar: In this series, I'll try to combine or introduce different styles to some logos through their history. The uniform template I will use is this Adidas template by Matthew McElroy. Please enjoy, and let me know if you have any combo recommendations!
  20. Welcome to what is now my first completed concept series, the NHL City Mashup Series! In this series, I will be taking the identity of each NHL team and combining it with the identity of another team (different sport) in that team's city. Some rules I set for myself were Team must be in either the MLB, NBA, NFL, MLS, or CFL. The jersey must be in the style of the NHL team's jersey. The other team's colours will be the ones on the jersey. The fonts should be either the official team's font or a close matching font. Teams: Anaheim Ducks (Angels) Arizona Coyotes (Cardinals) Boston Bruins (Celtics) Buffalo Sabres (Bills) Calgary Flames (Stampeders) Carolina Hurricanes (Charlotte Hornets) Chicago Blackhawks (Cubs) Colorado Avalanche (Nuggets) Columbus Blue Jackets (Crew) Dallas Stars (Cowboys) Detroit Red Wings (Tigers) Edmonton Oilers (Eskimos) Florida Panthers (Heat) Los Angeles Kings (Dodgers) Minnesota Wild (Twins) Montreal Canadiens (Expos) Nashville Predators (Titans) New Jersey Devils (Jets) New York Islanders (Nets) New York Rangers (Knicks) Ottawa Senators (Redblacks) Philadelphia Flyers (Eagles) Pittsburgh Penguins (Pirates) San Jose Sharks (49ers) St Louis Blues (Cardinals) Tampa Bay Lightning (Buccaneers) Toronto Maple Leafs (Raptors) Vancouver Canucks (Whitecaps) Vegas Golden Knights (Raiders) Washington Capitals (Wizards) Winnipeg Jets (Blue Bombers) without further adieu, here's the first mashup, the Anaheim Angels in the style of the Anaheim Ducks. (Yes, I am aware they aren't the Anaheim Angels, but heck with that) C&C is appreciated! I am also considering doing throwback jerseys for each mashup, I'd like to hear your thoughts on the idea.
  21. I've seen this idea get bounced around for a thread and in the wake of the demise of the AAF, I feel now is a good time to discuss how an alternative league can potentially survive (and with a few strokes of luck, even thrive). While I'm focusing on alternatives to the Big 4 sports leagues in North America (NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL) as that is what I know, discussing alternatives to leagues outside of North America is obviously welcome. As for a potential alternative (American) football league, here are a few starters that would help IMO: 1. Have a secure source of funding and be willing to lose tens of millions of dollars to start. 2. Don't try to beat the established leagues right off the bat. After all, you have to prove that you can stick around as the longest lasting league since the NFL-AFL merger was the United Football League. 3. Maintain a smaller staff compared to an NFL team. This is obvious. Keep expenses down as much as possible. 4. Get a TV/streaming contract. Streaming is the next evolution of TV but get a TV contract because not everyone can access Internet fast enough to stream. Clearly this is nowhere near a complete list of steps necessary to establish a foothold in the sports market but it's a start.
  22. Doodling led to some ideas for a bolder, brighter NHL with more attitude so I figured I'd flesh some out, starting with the Lightning. Not sure how many teams I'll do, but it won't be the whole league, just whatever interesting ideas come to me. Also help me name this series once you get the flavor cause I don't know what the heck to call this thing. Hope you enjoy! Thanks for watching as always!
  23. Thought i'd do a fun little concept, integrating every team into the teams city name, making a kind of cool design using the teams' names. Not as much of a team concept, but more of a miscellaneous concept series. Let me know what you think and what city you'd like to see! First up, my original home, New York City, featuring every team in the NY metro area. I will start with the five sport cities/metro areas, then four, then three (if i get that far).
  24. Started this thread so that I don't have to start a new one everytime I post a new concept. Kicking things off are the Nashville Predators! I Kept things pretty simple here, using a pattern inspired by their Reebok jerseys. The pattern is the exact same on all three jerseys. On the alt, I used a recoloured version of their original logo. Any C&C is appreciated!
  25. Hello. I am an animator and video editor and I have been working on and off on a logo redesign project for the better part of a year now (with long stretches of inactivity) as a way to get better at illustrator and I thought I would make an account here for some critique. I started really getting in to logo design when I came across a black and white and horribly pixelated design for a Fleur De Lis that I thought could be made into a St. Louis Blues logo, and after contacting the owner of the shop and asking about it and if I could mess with it, I did. I didn't really think it worked well as a main logo, but I did think it worked as a shoulder patch. I did it in a couple other colors as well and took the wordmark from the actual St. Louis Blues sheet music after an idea from the kind folks on the Blues subreddit. Over a year later I thought I decided I needed to get better at illustrator so I started designing alternate/shoulder logos for the rest of the league. I'm "done" with about 1/4 of the league at this point. Please let me know what you think and I would love to hear suggestions on what I need to improve on, but keep in mind I dont really know what I am doing. Also, if there is a better way to format this let me know. St. Louis Original: Wordmark: Colors: Revision: I did Minnesota next, where I thought a roundel logo would look cool. I did two variants of the same logo and one that was a riff on their main logo. 1: 2: 3: Colorado This one I actually think could stand up as a main logo. I got rid of their ugly "Millennium swoops' Winnipeg Classic colors: Modern Colors: Revision: Toronto: based on the city of Toronto's flag Ottowa: I wanted to play off their older logo that everyone loves so much without just making it an exact copy Revision: Buffalo: I took the crossed swords from their red logo days and put them behind the skull I drew. Penguins: I replaced the iconic triangle with a Pennsylvania keystone. Hopefully that doesn't make me a heretic. Revision: I put the penguin in a complete keystone and I like it, but I still think the half keystone looks better. Lightning: Honestly something's missing from this one, but everything I add makes it look worse so I decided to ask you all what you think. the L works pretty good but it seems empty. Again, these aren't really meant to replace the logo front of the jersey, most are meant to be shoulder patches, but this one feels empty. Revision: Wordmark: I thought trying to make it a wordmark would work a little bit better, and it does in some aspects, but it feels really empty still. Canadiens: I took the Fleur from the Montreal flag and tried to turn it in to an "M"which I think works pretty well, but I do think it needs some more polishing. I don't really like this better than their current logo but I think something like it could work as a shoulder patch 1: 2: Stars: I took their old star logo and updated the colors and added a recolored Texas flag. Then I removed the wordmark and had the star go through the middle of a D in the same style as the other letters 1: 2: After a bit of a hiatus, I am back. I took the Spirit of Detroit and added wings to it. I am not sure if I want to add something in his hands but I am pretty proud of this logo My ham-fisted attempt to make the Wings one more Art Deco: I have had this Preds logo in my back pocket for a little while now, its super simple and is kind of a combination of their shoulder patch and chest logo. I plan on doing another one for the Preds as well but I thought I'd post this one just to get an idea of what you guys think Bruins: I changed the black to brown and put a modern style bear logo in the middle of the spokes, I think it could work as an alt shoulder patch. Panthers: In my honest opinion, the Panthers shoulder logo is absolutely perfect, so I can’t do better than that. I’m working on a retro nose art one but if I can’t find any reference images this will be what I work off of
